Magic Johnson at an event for Who's Your Caddy? (2007)
Official Trailer for 'The Legend of Swee' Pea' Basketball Documentary
Magic Johnson at an event for Who's Your Caddy? (2007)
"First thing I saw was a great talent. Maybe the best talent I've ever been associated with." 1091 Media has debuted a new official trailer for a sports documentary titled The Legend of Swee' Pea, which originally premiered way back in 2015 at a doc fest. It's just now getting an official VOD release after years of waiting. That Lloyd "Swee' Pea" Daniels became an NBA player was no surprise – at age 16 he was named "the next Magic Johnson" and possibly the best player that had ever lived. That his NBA debut happened at age 25, with bullets still lodged in his chest and a body ravaged by many years of crack-cocaine addiction, was a miracle. The Legend of Swee' Pea doc tells the story of a dramatic basketball odyssey in which the hero must ultimately confront a life imperfectly lived. Featuring appearances by Lloyd Daniels, Bobbito Garcia, Tom Konchalski, and more.

Interview: Benjamin May on ‘The Legend of Swee’ Pea’ at the Midwest Independent Film Festival
Chicago – The road to athletic success is littered with the clichés of “might have been” and “never was,” but rarely does it contain a success story that is despite the person who achieved that success. In the early 1990s, a journeyman broke into the National Basketball Association, the first time in its history that a player that never graduated from high school made it to the big show. That man is Lloyd Daniels, and his story is in the documentary “The Legend of Swee’ Pea,” by filmmaker Benjamin May. The director will appear – with his cinematographer Daniel Levin – on behalf of his film at its Chicago premiere, presented by the Midwest Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 (details below).

Feature Doc On Quixotic Life Of NYC Playground Legend & Basketball Savant Lloyd "Swee' Pea" Daniels In The Works
A documentary feature on the incredible life of NYC basketball playground legend, the enigmatic Lloyd "Swee' Pea" Daniels is in the works, from director Benjamin May. Titled The Legend of Swee' Pea, here's the story: Lloyd Daniels’ unlikely rise to the NBA is the stuff that myths are made of: the most sought-after college basketball recruit of his generation, he got busted buying cocaine in a police sting operation, and two years later was almost killed after getting shot three times in the chest while negotiating an $8 drug deal. Yet, in spite of this, he somehow managed to make it to the NBA, without having played a single college game, with remnants of bullets still in his body,...

X Factor 2010: Cher Lloyd wants to be world famous rapper!
Cher Lloyd has admitted that she hopes to gain fame through The X Factor and hopefully become a world famous rapper one day.

The 16 year old from Malvern in Worcestershire was seen impressing Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Natalie Imbruglia on tonight’s show. Cher sang Turn My Swag On by Soulja Boy. (The Keri Hilson version) and afterwards Cole told her:

“You are right up my street! You are actually my favourite audition so far. Little bit of attitude there, I like it.”

In an interview with The Sunday Mirror, Lloyd admitted that she loves Cheryl and enjoys the fact that many people think she resembles her.

She said:

“I admire her fashion, her looks and I even have a tattoo of a musical note like hers on my hand.

“I’m not even old enough to have a tattoo, but I have three. I know it’s naughty.

Lloyd 'would never do X Factor again'
Lloyd Daniels has revealed that he would never go through The X Factor again after losing one and a half stone during the competition. Daniels, who came fifth in last year's series, warned current contestants that he felt the demands of the show were too great. "I'm pleased that I'm not part of it this year," he told The Sun. "I lost a stone and a half just through stress. "I'd say to this year's contestants, 'You've got it hard guys, seriously.' I think it's too much. I would never do it again, but I don't regret it." When asked if he was planning to follow this year's series, the 17-year-old said: (more)...

Olly Murs’ twin tells how his brother broke his heart
Olly Murs’ twin brother Ben has revealed how the pair have not spoken, ever since Olly missed his wedding to appear on The X Factor.

Admitting that he has fallen out with his whole family since Olly let him down, Ben told The News Of The World that not only did Olly fail to turn up to the wedding, but he didn’t even phone or text to wish the happy couple good luck.

Ben said:

“I understand why Olly wasn’t at the wedding. It clashed with the X Factor semi-final and singing has been his dream for years.

“But what hurt was that he never even told me himself he wasn’t going to be able to be my best man.

“I kept reading how Olly had said he was ‘gutted’ he couldn’t make it, but when the wedding came I had my mobile in my pocket...

Lloyd Daniels ‘would never’ do X Factor again
Lloyd Daniels has admitted that he warns people off entering The X Factor and says that he would never want to live through the experience again.

The 17 year old auditioned for Simon and co last year and sang through the live shows until he was eliminated in week eight. Although he hasn’t landed a record deal, he does now travel the length and breadth of the country performing at gigs. His life has changed massively but would he recommend it to his friends?

The Welsh singer told Wales Online:

“I would never do it again.”

“My friend said he might go along to audition this year, but I said ‘you’re not doing it!’ It’s really hard work.

On how he felt when he was voted off the show last year, Lloyd admitted:

“It was quite a relief to be honest. Everyone else who’d left before me were doing gigs,...

X Factor 2010: Johnny Lloyd takes a second shot at fame!
London singer Johnny Lloyd made his second X Factor attempt this week, four years after he and his band Avenue were thrown off the show.

The boys made it through the bootcamp stage in 2006, but were cut from the lineup after Simon Cowell discovered that they already had a management deal and had been specially put together for the show. At the time Cowell said:

‘They misled us. It wouldn`t have been fair to allow them to deprive another act of a slot in the finals.’

Johnny returned yesterday with his new band Princes and Rogues and his former mentor Louis Walsh recognised him immediately. He told the judges that he had advertised for band members on Facebook before they gave a rendition of ‘Forever is Over’ by the Saturdays.

A source told The Sun: “Johnny was elated to go through, although the band know they need a lot of work.

Daniels, who performed 'I'm Still Standing' and 'Million Love Songs' on yesterday's show, received the fewest amount of votes from the public. X Factor 28th November – The Unreality TV Chart
The X Factor semi finals are almost upon us and tonight’s Take That and Elton John themed show saw some of our contestants up their game massively and some seemed to fall badly by the wayside.

Here’s who we thought were the best and worst of the night, we know that many of you will disagree with our choices so feel free to leave your own charts and comments below.

1: Joe McElderry - We have loved wee Joe from day one of this years X Factor, however he now seems to be emerging as a real contender for the crown. We think his final performance of Elton John’s ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’ was possibly the best song of the series.

2: Olly Murs – When we heard that Olly would be singing Take That ballad ‘Love Ain’t Here Anymore’ we were worried. We...

Lloyd Daniels to quit X Factor?
16 year old Lloyd Daniels has reportedly threatened to quit ITV’s X Factor.

The Daily Mail reports that the teenager was incredibly upset by Louis Walsh’s negative comments about him on last Sunsay’s show.

As he decided who to send home from the show, Walsh exclaimed: “I can’t believe Lloyd is still here.”

He later added on The Xtra Factor: “‘I thought it would have been Lloyd in the bottom two because he’s been there, like, three times. Olly [Murs] did not deserve to be in the bottom two.”

The comments reportedly pushed Daniels over the edge, leaving him exclaiming to producers: “I’m going, I can’t carry on.”

A show insider claimed: “Lloyd was in a terrible state after the show. It has got a bit too much for him. Being told that you belong in the bottom two is devastating for any of...

It was George Michael and Wham! week on The X Factor tonight and the remaining six hopefuls took to the stage to try to impress the judges. Read on to find out what Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole had to say about the contestants' performances. Lloyd Daniels - 'Faith' Dannii: "Lloyd, that was a great opening to the show. You look fantastic tonight - it's like a whole reinvention. You've definitely got something that is the X factor and we can't put our finger on it. I'm just hoping that each week the vocals keep going up and up, because where we are in the competition you need to have a wow moment. At the end of the song the falsetto was great - you need to use that more, that's your trick." Louis: "Lloyd, I know you were under a lot of pressure this...

Cowell accused of anti-Welsh bias
Lloyd Daniels's mother has accused Simon Cowell of having an anti-Welsh bias on The X Factor. Following Daniels's performance of Queen track 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', Cowell described the 16-year-old singer as looking like a "puppy taking part in the Grand National". Speaking about the judge's repeated criticism of her son, Lisa Daniels told the South Wales Echo: "He's got it in for the Welsh. I had a feeling that Lloyd would be in the bottom two, not because he didn't do a good performance on Saturday, but Simon's words, I thought, would have swayed the public, saying he was like a puppy trying to run in the Grand National. Jamie Afro: X Factor was demoralising
Jamie Archer has admitted that he occasionally felt “demoralised” whilst taking part in The X Factor.

Jamie was voted off the show last night after singing for survival against 16 year old Lloyd Daniels. He told the Press Association that constant battles over his song choices made him realise that his “journey had come to an end”.

He said: “It was really demoralising for me, because it made me feel like ‘Is it me? Am I being difficult? No-one knows what to do with me – maybe there just aren’t any songs?’ but I just got on with it really.”

Jamie denied claims that he planned to quit the show saying:

“I didn’t say I was leaving, I just said ‘Maybe it’s the wrong show for me’. It was after we did Unchained Melody and we tried it, and I had to change my song last minute.

“I said...

X Factor 2009, Week 6 Results Show
Everybody ready for what promises to be a controversial results show? Cheryl and Dannii are rocking the outlandish frocks, Louis and Simon aren’t. Dermot’s giving us the run-down of tonight’s episode, and the ensemble performance is about to begin…

They’re doing Bohemian Rhapsody tonight. Ambitious! Because Rhapsody is such a long song, they’ve picked out highlights from it, which sounds a little bit like fast-forwarding through the song somewhat. It only gets really good when Brian May and Roger Taylor make their appearance. What? The guitar solo continues while Brian May’s hand is in the air. Seems the contestants aren’t the only ones miming tonight!

Still, nice to see the old dogs rocking the stage. Even if they couldn’t remember Stacey’s name…

Recap time!

Yeah, we get the usual mix of last night’s footage and backstage commentary. Makes me stand...

Dermot O'Leary, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger, Simon Cowell, and Louis Walsh in The X Factor UK (2004)
Jamie Archer has become the sixth act to be voted off The X Factor. Archer found himself in the bottom two alongside Lloyd Daniels after the public vote. Both acts then had to perform a song of their choice to persuade the judges to keep them in the competition. Archer was first to perform, and chose to sing Queen's 'The Show Must Go On'. Daniels followed with a rendition of 'Last Request' by Paolo Nutini. After their performances, the judges had to decide who to send home. Simon Cowell was first to vote and sent home Daniels, saving his own act Archer. Meanwhile, Cheryl Cole, who mentors Daniels, sent home Archer. Louis Walsh decided to send home Archer, claiming that Daniels has more "potential" and "appeal". Dannii Minogue had the deciding vote, and said: "This is hard because nobody wants to send anybody home. (more)...

X Factor 2009, Week 5 – The Unreality TV Chart, Movie Week
Hello again, lovely blog readers! It’s that time of the night where we sit back and reflect on the performances that we saw. And yes, we sit in judgement, because we don’t trust everything that Louis Walsh says, and we know that Simon will give his own acts the highest praise.

But really, who were the best and the worst of X Factor’s Movie Week? Well, let’s review (and you can give your own opinions in the comments, as always!)

Jamie Archer – Jamie sang a version of Crying from a little-known movie, but excelled by giving an emotional and powerful performance. He showed yet again that his strength might actually be outside of the rock style the show has lumbered him with. Lucie Jones – A relatively unknown song choice for Lucie tonight, which might cost her in the phone votes when people don’t identify with it.

Feature: 'X Factor' Movie Songs predictions
Cheryl at an event for We Have a Pope (2011)
After the highly-anticipated Rock Week turned out to be a bit of a damp squib (Katy Perry? Come off it, Cheryl!), The X Factor heads back to more familiar territory tomorrow night with its Songs From The Movies theme. Judging from previous series and rumours currently doing the rounds, the rules seem pretty lax on what constitutes a 'song from a movie', so there's plenty of scope. Keep reading for our suggestions - some silly, some serious - for the final eight hopefuls.

Lloyd Daniels

Poor little Lloyd. Some people would argue that he can barely sing at the best of times, so performing his Survival Song last Sunday with a 'sore throat' was butt-clenchingly hard to watch. However, thanks to Simon Cowell sitting on the fence, the lad from Wales is back for more punishment. The hot rumour on the Digital Spy forums is that Cheryl's going to...

Adedeji was first to perform, and chose to sing the Oasis track 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out'. Daniels, who was suffering with a sore throat, followed with a rendition of 'You Are So Beautiful'. During his performance his voice cracked, causing him to shake his head and say "Sorry". The judges then had to decide who to save.
