Agam Darshi
Donkeyhead Review: Agam Darshi’s Directorial Debut Reconciles Cultural Tradition with Personal Identity
Agam Darshi
You see it often. The “successful” children leave to start families of their own and the so-called “donkeys” (or khotas in the case of this Punjabi household) are left caring for the parents that were hard enough on them to make the level of compassion necessary to do so tough to understand. Mona (Agam Darshi) was the black sheep in many ways growing up. She was the artistic type. The rebel. The “lesser” twin. Growing up in a Sikh home with a demanding father (Marvin Ishmael) and more pliable and obedient siblings meant discipline, screaming, and beatings. So why did she stay? Why nurse him through seven years of cancer? Love is complicated.

So too is Darshi’s directorial debut Donkeyhead. Her Mona is a failed writer (the details of which come out during the course of the film) living at home with her ailing father, desperate to finally win his affection.

Donald MacLean Jr., Tiera Skovbye, Natasha Calis, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Sandy Sidhu in Nurses (2020)
‘Nurses’ Episode Pulled From NBC’s Digital Platforms Over Criticism of Orthodox Jewish Storyline
Donald MacLean Jr., Tiera Skovbye, Natasha Calis, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Sandy Sidhu in Nurses (2020)
An episode of Canadian drama “Nurses” that aired on NBC earlier this month has been pulled from the broadcaster’s digital platforms following backlash over the installment’s storyline about an Orthodox Jewish patient refusing a bone graft from a potentially “Arab” or female donor, a spokesperson for the network tells TheWrap.

“The writers of this scene check all the boxes of ignorance and pernicious negative stereotypes, right down to the name of the patient, Israel – pious and all,” the Simon Wiesenthal Center said in a statement earlier Wednesday. “In one scene, NBC has insulted and demonized religious Jews and Judaism. Overreaction? Orthodox Jews are targeted for violent hate crimes — in the city of New York, Jews are number one target of hate crimes in U.S.. This is no slip of the tongue. It was a vile, cheap attack masquerading as TV drama. What’s NBC going to do about it?...

Nurses Exclusive Clip: Ashley Confronts Grace About Her Secret!
Donald MacLean Jr., Tiera Skovbye, Natasha Calis, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Sandy Sidhu in Nurses (2020)
NBC's latest Canadian import, Nurses, continues tonight at 10/9c.

Nurses Season 1 Episode 2 finds a guest of honor at a St. Mary’s fundraiser collapsing, and Grace grappling with the patient’s refusal to tell her family her secret.

Ashley confronts Grace about her own secret, and we have an exclusive first look at the scene in which Grace reveals she was sexually harassed by a man in a position of power.

The clip shows Grace revealing all to Ashley, but it's clear that Grace is not impressed with Ashley meddling in her life.

Grace tells Ashley that Dr. Hamilton could not keep his hands to himself, no matter how she tried to avoid him.

Ashley seems shocked when she learns the truth, but Grace does not want to hear it.

It's poised to be a big moment between the characters, but it seems like the revelation pushes them further apart.

COVID-19 (2020)
Why You Should Watch Nurses on NBC
COVID-19 (2020)
Due to Covid-19, a slew of shows has had to put off filming. To fill their air space, networks have been importing shows from Canada. Earlier this year, NBC aired the Canadian medical drama Transplant, and it was a rousing success.

Given how popular Transplant was, it's no surprise that NBC would pick up another Canadian medical drama. This one is all about the unsung heroes of the hospital, the nurses.

Nurses is definitely worth the watch if, for no other reason than because nurses don't get enough credit. As Head Nurse Sinead O'Rourke, played by Cathy White, puts it, the doctors are the rockstars.

Television is filled with popular rockstar doctors, from Meredith Grey to Conrad Hawkins and everyone in between. They seem larger than life, and they save lives every day.

When people go to the hospital, they don't expect a nurse to save their life. They expect a doctor to do it.

NBC Imports Canadian Medical Drama ‘Nurses’ Following ‘Transplant’ Success
Donald MacLean Jr., Tiera Skovbye, Natasha Calis, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Sandy Sidhu in Nurses (2020)
NBC is importing the Canadian medical drama “Nurses” to air on the network beginning next month.

The 10-episode series, set in Toronto, follows five young nurses working on the frontlines of a busy downtown hospital, dedicating their lives to helping others while struggling to help themselves. It stars Tiera Skovbye (“Riverdale”), Natasha Calis (“The Posession”), Jordan Johnson-Hinds (“Blindspot”), Sandy Sidhu (“Home Before Dark”) and Donald MacLean Jr. (“Workin’ Moms”).

The network will air preview episodes on Monday, Dec. 7 and Monday, Dec. 14 before returning with a proper premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

The move to import “Nurses,” which first aired on Canada’s Global TV, looks to build on the success NBC saw with its other recent import, “Transplant,” earlier this fall. “Transplant” premiered on the network back in September and has averaged 5.6 million viewers per episode, with a particularly strong showing in delayed viewing.

“Nurses” is executive produced by Ilana Frank,...

NBC Buys Canadian Medical Drama ‘Nurses’ From eOne, Adds To Primetime Schedule From December
Image
The Canadian import boom continues after NBC on Tuesday said it has picked up the medical drama Nurses.

The network acquired U.S. rights to the hospital drama from eOne and Icf Films. It will add the show, which features Riverdale’s Tiera Skovbye, to its primetime lineup in December.

It marks the latest Canadian show to be picked up by a U.S. network following deals for fellow medical drama Transplant, also with NBC, and procedural Coroner, which was picked up by the CW, as networks continue to look for already produced English-language content to deal with the fallout that Covid-19 has had on production schedules.

Nurses, originally commissioned by Canada’s Global TV, was one of a number of Canadian shows highlighted by Deadline back in May that was expected to be picked up by a U.S. network.

The 10-part series, filmed and set in Toronto, follows...
