The studio’s latest offering, the animation/live-action hybrid Sketch, was released to positive reviews and a strong audience reception this week. The movie is facing off at the box office against the Warner Bros. horror film Weapons, and the Disney sequel Freakier Friday. Both of these have also received positive reviews and immense fan support, which pushed them to exceed box office expectations. Sketch, on the other hand, barely found a spot on the top 10 list.

The movie grossed around $5 million in an extended five-day debut. Starring Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden, it earned an A- grade from opening day audiences, according to the polling platform CinemaScore. This puts it in the same category as fellow children’s films Harold and the Purple Crayon, Tom & Jerry, and Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Timothy Simons stepped out to support their former co-star Tony Hale at the premiere of his new film Sketch on Monday night (July 28) at Cinemark Playa Vista in Los Angeles.

Tony and co-star D’Arcy Carden walked the carpet together and following the screening, Timothy moderated a Q&a with the cast and director.

Here’s the synopsis of the film: “Still reeling from the unexpected loss of his wife, a single dad (Hale) navigates uncharted territory when his daughter’s comically dark drawings begin to come to life and wreak havoc on their small town.”

Maya Rudolph’s “Loot” finally has a Season 3 premiere date — along with a new teaser promising more billionaire shenanigans as well as resolution for the Season 2 finale’s romantic cliffhanger.

Apple TV+ revealed Tuesday that the comedy series will return Oct. 15 with the first two episodes, followed by new installments Wednesdays through Dec. 10. A teaser for the new season featured Rudolph’s Molly Wells gently caressing a giant crystal, before the camera moved to her coworker/love interest Arthur (Nat Faxon) in her kitchen, a promising sign of their relationship status after the Season 2 finale left it on a cliffhanger.

Golden Globe Award-winning actress Jennifer Garner was the first actor to be attached to the project. She not only stars in the series, but is also an executive producer. She takes on the lead role as Hollis Shaw, a famous food influencer who suffers a terrible loss.

Alison Brie (Community, Glow) is set to star in FX’s as-yet-untitled witness protection pilot, Deadline reports.

In the potential drama, “a violent confrontation drives a high-end D.C. madam (played by Brie) to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter,” according to the official logline.

Peacock’s upcoming series adaptation of the Elin Hilderbrand novel “The Five-Star Weekend” has added three recurring cast members, Variety has learned exclusively.

Judy Greer, West Duchovny, and Tory Devon Smith have all joined the series in recurring roles. The trio join previously announced cast members including: Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, D’Arcy Carden, Harlow Jane, Timothy Olyphant, David Denman, Josh Hamilton, and Rob Huebel.

After being The Handmaid's Tale's only Emmy nomination for the fifth season, Elisabeth Moss is probably the show's best shot at being recognized for its sixth and final season this year. At the moment, Moss is in fifth place in Gold Derby's odds for Best Drama Actress, which is set to have five slots. But if the 2017 drama series champ gets a farewell hug from voters, don't be surprised to see it pop up in other races, including the acting category it once dominated unlike any other: Best Drama Guest Actress.

Elin Hilderbrand is opening up about her many books that are being adapted for the small and big screen. At Nantucket Film Festival’s “Flipping the Script: Bestsellers to Screen” panel on Sunday, Hilderbrand was joined by Jenna Lamia, the showrunner of “The Perfect Couple” and the team from the upcoming “Five-Star Weekend” series, writer and producer Bekah Brunstetter, UCP executive Jen Gwartz, NBCUniversal’s Lisa Katz and producer Sue Naegle.

“The Five-Star Weekend” is currently in production, starring Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, D’Arcy Carden and Timothy Olyphant. But it’s one of many in the works for Hilderbrand, whose first adaptation was “The Perfect Couple.”

“Jenna and I are developing the ‘Winter Street’ series with Netflix,” she laughed on the panel before diving into other adaptations coming. “I have a project going with Universal, which I won’t talk about.”

Nicholson's Dance Mom, aka Mary Alice, was recruited by Paul W. Downs' Jimmy and Megan Stalter's Kayla to appear on Late Night With Deborah Vance as a way for the talk show-within-a-show to gain a younger audience. At first, Jean Smart's Deborah was hesitant to let the untested woman take the stage, until she realized it would annoy Hannah Einbinder's Ava, and then all bets were off.

Variety has learned that Harlow Jane will join the cast as series regular. David Denman, Josh Hamilton, and Rob Huebel will appear in recurring roles.

“St. Denis Medical” has been one of the freshest, funniest new comedies of the 2024-2025 TV season, and its co-creators and cast know why: It’s deeply rooted in truth. Creator, showrunner, and writer Eric Ledgin even did his own research to find out if hospital staff really do have sex in the on-call rooms, as shown on so many TV medical dramas.

Ledgin was joined by co-creator and writer Justin Spitzer and actors Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi for an IndieWire Consider This Live Event moderated by actress D’Arcy Carden at Vidiots Foundation in Los Angeles’s Eagle Rock neighborhood on May 29. This was an official TV Academy FYC event.

Marcus Scribner has copped a major new role: The black-ish star has joined the cast of Boston Blue, CBS’ Donnie Wahlberg-led Blue Bloods offshoot.

Per Variety, Scribner will play rookie officer Jonah Silver, the youngest member of a law enforcement family that also includes his mother, District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben); his sister, Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green); and his stepsister, Boston Police Department Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson). Ernie Hudson also co-stars as Jonah’s grandfather, Reverend Edwin Peters.

After the author's hit novel The Perfect Couple came to life on Netflix, Hilderbrand has now become the latest author whose work is being turned into must-watch shows. Back in January, news broke that Peacock ordered the limited series The Five-Star Weekend to series with Jennifer Garner on board as an executive producer and the leading star of the cast. If you somehow missed "The Good Place," an existential afterlife comedy from "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Parks and Recreation" creator Michael Schur, I implore you to fix that immediately. The series premiered in September of 2016 and introduced audiences to Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper), Tahani Al-Jamil (Jameela Jamil), and "Jianyu," whose real name is Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto in arguably his best role). When these four humans die on Earth, they end up in an afterlife that they're told is the "Good Place" by the specific "heavenly" neighborhood's architect, Michael (Ted Danson). Michael, who's flanked by his not-a-robot, not-a-girl assistant Janet (D'Arcy Carden), guides Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason through this seemingly idyllic celestial neighborhood, until a twist late in the show's first season reveals something absolutely enormous. Also, there is a Bad Place, and Michael says the core four do not want to end up there.

Alexis Bledel has withdrawn herself from Emmy consideration for “The Handmaid’s Tale” following rule changes to the guest acting categories.

Bledel, who plays Dr. Emily Malek/Ofglen in the Hulu drama, had been submitted for outstanding guest actress in a drama series for her appearance in the series finale, “610 – The Handmaid’s Tale.” However, due to a newly enforced Emmy rule disqualifying actors previously nominated in a lead or supporting category for the same show, the Television Academy notified Bledel and her team that she would be moved to the supporting actress race. As a result, she opted to withdraw her name from consideration and will not appear on the nomination ballot when voting begins on June 12.

Bledel won the guest actress Emmy in 2017 and was nominated again in 2020 and 2021. In 2018, after appearing in seven of 13 episodes that season, she was deemed ineligible as a guest and was nominated instead...
