Born Philip Martin in South Central LA, Bishop Lamont is a critically acclaimed West Coast rapper who was raised in Carson and began to rap at the early age of 13.
Bishop hit the studio creating uniquely different beats after an unlikely mixtape handoff with two industry icons. His fusion of underground hip-hop perfectly collides with mainstream and his lyrical flow juggles topics that are controversial, sociopolitical, meaningful and threaded with crafty, yet cerebral purpose.
Lamont brings exceptional dynamism to the genre - evidenced by his album REFORMATION. His accolades include appearances with Hip Hop legends and contemporaries Dr. Dre, Talib Kweli, Chuck D, DJ Quik, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, Warren G and others. He has produced tracks for video games NBA Live and Madden NFL, and various mixtapes championed by underground hip-hop producers like 9th Wonder, Jay Dilla, Hi-Tek, Battle Cat, Mark Batson, Black Milk, Scott Storch, Danjahandz and more.
In a partnership with micro-donation technology Kwippit, Lamont wrote and dedicated the 2018 anthem INVISIBLE (which he produced with close friends NomaD, Angie Fisher, Josephine Rojer, Philip Lassiter and Michael Lemmo) to help raise awareness for homelessness initiative PROJECT HOPE LA. Proceeds from INVISIBLE will go directly to nonprofit partners USC MISC, Downtown Women's Center, United Way LA and Skid Row Housing Trust to advance their tireless and meaningful work helping break the cycle of homelessness.
While Lamont's music blurs lifestyle with profession, he cherishes time with daughter and also lends a hand in transitional shelters helping to mainstream once homeless individuals.
