If you ask Enrico Colantoni, English Teacher is "absolutely the show we need right now." As the veteran actor tells Gold Derby, "we make fun of everybody! We make fun of the political correctness. We cross a line every so often, but I think we get away with it without hurting anybody."
English Teacher, an FX comedy created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, offers a sharp, character-driven look at life inside a modern high school. Best known for his cult-favorite web series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, Alvarez plays Evan Marquez, a passionate but perpetually overwhelmed English teacher in Austin, Texas.
The show explores the tangled intersections of education, identity, and cultural change, blending Alvarez's signature offbeat humor with moments of real emotional depth. Colantoni costars as Principal Grant Moretti, whose rigid exterior hides a more complex personality. The supporting cast also includes Stephanie Koenig as...

While accepting a Gracie award for her work on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Molly McNearney took the opportunity to directly address the pressure women often face to look perfect.
“I’m not saying this for sympathy. Jesus, do not give me sympathy,” McNearney said Tuesday night at the 50th annual Gracie Awards held at The Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel. “You might be feeling the same [insecurity] right now, and I need us to realize together — close your ears — it doesn’t fucking matter! It doesn’t matter. We’re all too hard on ourselves. We’re gonna take all this off in a couple hours, unless you’re married to Jimmy Kimmel.”
Hosted by actor and comedian Fortune Feimster, the evening celebrated this year’s winners chosen by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, which honors women’s voices in media. Top winners included “Dune: Prophecy,” Cristin Milioti, Kathy Bates and Megan Thee Stallion,...

Meet the Makers: Going Dutch and Animal Control
There are plenty of similarities to be found between Fox’s two live-action comedies, Joel McHale’s “Animal Control” and Denis Leary’s “Going Dutch.” Both are single-camera workplace comedies with characters in uniform: A quirky group of animal control workers in Seattle on “Animal Control,” and a quirky group of U.S. Army soldiers stationed on a tiny Netherlands base on “Going Dutch.” Making things even more personal, McHale’s “Community” co-star Danny Pudi now stars opposite Leary on “Going Dutch.”
So how about a crossover inside the Fox comedyverse? “It makes perfect sense,” Leary said during the Variety FYC TV Fest. “The guys who are the creators of ‘Animal Control’ are guys I’ve worked with before. Great writers. And we actually discussed it at some point last year. So let’s talk Fox into it. But Fox hasn’t mentioned it.

Many exciting shows are coming to Hulu over the next couple of months.
The streaming service confirmed on Monday that Mid-Century Modern, its highly-anticipated multi-camera comedy, is one of those and will receive its debut on March 28.
The series will stray from the typical weekly rollout, with the streaming platform dropping all 10 episodes on the premiere date.
(Disney/Chris Haston)
Some shows benefit from the weekly release strategy to keep the conversation flowing, but we’ll reserve judgment on whether a binge release will benefit this series.

“My hair is very susceptible to the weather, and there needs to be some moisture in the air,” O’Brien recently revealed on his podcast about his luscious locks. “So, when I’m in places like Seattle, Boston — where I’m from — when there’s some humidity in the air, my hair is absolutely fantastic. It’s big and springy, and it shoots out. So, moisture in the air is the Viagra for my pompadour.

“English Teacher,” one of the buzziest comedies of the 2024 television season, will officially be coming back for Season 2. The 10-episode installment is expected to premiere in 2025.
“‘English Teacher’ was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the show’s creative excellence,” Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said in a Friday statement. “We look forward to the new season.”
Created by Brian Jordan Alvarez, “English Teacher” follows Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas. Most of the series revolves around Evan grandstanding, often about his liberal beliefs, only to be defeated time and time again by his own ego and short-sightedness. As he navigates his relationships with his friends, co-workers, students and on-again, off-again boyfriend, the series asks, “Can you really be your full self at your job?”

Are the 2025 Critics Choice Awards about to be a repeat of the recent Emmys and Golden Globes?
Television awards faves Hacks, Shōgun, and Baby Reindeer are expected to dominate Friday’s ceremony, which was delayed twice in the wake of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Season 3 of Max’s laugh riot Hacks is predicted to walk away with four trophies: comedy series, comedy actress (Jean Smart), comedy supporting actress (Hannah Einbinder), and comedy supporting actor (Paul W. Downs). In fact, the only category Hacks is expected to lose is Best Comedy Actor … because it doesn’t compete there. Instead, our odds-makers believe Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This) had better start preparing a speech.
Likewise, Season 1 of FX’s historical epic Shōgun has four races locked up, per our rankings: drama series, drama actress (Anna Sawai), drama actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), and drama supporting actor (Tadanobu Asano). The remaining statuette is Best Drama Supporting Actress,...

The English Teacher creator and star Brian Jordan Alvarez is denying the sexual assault allegations being made against him by former friend and co-star Jon Ebeling.
Brian and Jon worked together on the digital series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, which aired on YouTube back in 2016. Stephanie Koenig, who stars on The English Teacher with Brian, also was part of the show and the friends group.
The web-series allegedly mirrored what was happening between Brian, Jon, and Stephanie in real lie.

Brian Jordan Alvarez denied allegations of sexual assault detailed in a Vulture article that outlined the fallout of the “English Teacher” creator and star’s friendship with former co-star Jon Ebeling.
The article presents a deep look into the former friends’ time making their digital series, “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo,” along with Stephanie Koenig (who also stars in FX’s “English Teacher”). In Vulture’s “Friends Like These” piece, Ebeling recalled two incidents in which he claims he was assaulted by Alvarez — one supposedly under the guise of a hookup in 2015 and another on-set in 2016 where Alvarez was also the director.
Ebeling further stated he has told the story to many people in their shared SoCal comedy scene and even filed an LAPD police report on Sept. 1, the day before “English Teacher” premiered. But Alvarez remembers their experiences as purely consensual.

A former collaborator has accused Brian Jordan Alvarez, the creator and star of the hit new FX comedy series English Teacher, of sexual assault. The allegations were made by Jon Ebeling, an actor who performed regularly alongside Alvarez and English Teacher collaborator Stephanie Koenig, the latter of whom he briefly dated.
In an extensive report published by Vulture, Ebeling says Alvarez pressured him into sex and turned the incident into a plotline for their 2016 web series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo. While filming a reenactment of the incident, Ebeling says that Alvarez sexually assaulted him. In September, Ebeling filed a report with the Los Angeles Police Department and the Screen Actors Guild. Alvarez, meanwhile, has denied the allegations and asserts that Ebeling consented to their sexual interactions.

Zac Efron walks around on the set of his upcoming new movie Famous on Tuesday (December 10) in Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old actor’s muscles could be seen through his tight yellow t-shirt as he looked to be having a snack in between filming scenes.
The day before, Zac was spotted wearing a suit while driving around in a yellow Ferrari.
In the upcoming movie, which is based on a novel by Blake Crouch, Zac will play the dual roles of Lance Dunkquist and James Jansen. The former is a fame-obsessed aspiring actor who is headed to Hollywood. Meanwhile, James is the already famous actor who closely resembles Lance.
The film “explores the dark side of celebrity and the lengths people will go to attain it.”
It was just recently announced that Daniel Zovatto and Bill Pullman have also been cast in the upcoming film, alongside Zac, Phoebe Dynevor, Nicholas Braun,...

Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, English Teacher premiered on FX on Monday, September 2. Season 1 consists of eight thirty-minute episodes and follows Evan Marquez, a teacher in Texas who "finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional, and political aspects of working at a high school." In addition to Alvarez, the main cast includes Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton, Enrico Colantoni, Carmen Christopher, and Jordan Firstman.
Koenig plays Gwen Sanders, an optimistic history teacher at Morrison-Hensley High who tends to see the best in people, even when she shouldn't. The actor starred in Apple TV+'s Emmy-nominated series Lessons in Chemistry alongside Brie Larson and has also been featured in projects such as Sick Girl, The Offer, and The Flight Attendant. While English Teacher is yet to be renewed for a second season, the cast remains optimistic about the show's return.

I knew that Agatha All Along deserved an awards nod, and thanks to Patti LuPone's MCU debut as Lilia Calderu in episode 7, that's exactly what happened. It isn't all that surprising, as Agatha All Along has swiftly established itself as one of the McU's top-rated series, going from strength to strength with each successive episode. Despite starring a slew of particularly obscure Marvel Comics characters, Agatha's cobbled-together coven now comprises some fan-favorite MCU characters and debuted two particularly consequential characters, Wiccan and Death, in earnest.
After Deadpool & Wolverine's immense success at the box office, the critical acclaim for Agatha All Along suggests that Marvel Studios is now on the upturn after a disappointing 2023. There are myriad reasons for the praise earned by Agatha All Along, including excellent casting decisions, meaningful writing, and a distinctly unusual structure that helped it to stand out. The series highlight, meanwhile, came in...
