Michael Madsen, the prolific actor best known for playing tough guys in Quentin Tarantino films like Reservoir Dogs and the Kill Bill series, has died at the age of 67.

Madsen’s reps confirmed the actor’s death to Variety, adding that he died Thursday morning from cardiac arrest in Malibu, California.

Nowhere was this more evident than in the disturbing history of the band Mayhem, active originally from 1984 to 1993, right in the midst of the “satanic panic”, and documented in the 2018 film Lords of Chaos, which had its own share of controversy upon its release. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the eldest daughter of Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl has been “incredibly committed” to making full use of the studio space she received as a birthday gift from her father. Producer Justin Raisen is among her collaborators.

It’s believed the 18-year-old Grohl has enough material recorded for a full album, but details like a release date and record label are unclear at this time. Of course, her dad’s own Roswell imprint under RCA Records is a possibility.

Produced by frequent collaborator Jorge Elbrecht, the synth-laden “Leash” is a throwback to Ferreira’s acclaimed 2013 debut, Night Time, My Time, with occasionally disturbing lyrics appropriate for the erotic thriller.

Sky Ferreira is having her comeback, releasing her first new song in three years, “Leash,” for Halina Reijn’s “Babygirl.” Speaking to IndieWire, the 32-year-old pop star and actress reflected on her work with David Lynch. Ferreira cameo’d in the 2017 “Twin Peaks: The Return” revival as Ella — a woman with a terrible rash at the Roadhouse bar — and even covered “Blue Velvet” for him.

“There’s a lot of surprises, because you never know what you’re doing,” Ferreira told IndieWire. “It was funny, because you get the script maybe the day before. Like, I knew that I was doing ‘Twin Peaks,’ but I didn’t know what I was going to do. Literally the day before when I read it, I really didn’t know what I was going to do.

“But when I was doing it, it suddenly made sense when he [David Lynch] was directing me,” she said.

When it comes to music at the movies in 2024, this might be remembered as the year of the weird musical – or, at least, the movies that you wouldn’t think would be musicals, but were. There was Todd Phillips’ sequel, “Joker: Folie a Deux,” which nobody figured would be full of musical numbers until it was; Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The End,” with post-apocalyptic underground crooning by Tilda Swinton and others; and, of course, Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez,” which sounded odd on paper – “a brutal Mexican cartel leader hires a high-powered attorney to engineer a gender-reassignment surgery” – even before you threw in lavish musical numbers.

Rory Culkin, starring in one of the most interesting and weird true stories of all time should be a slam dunk, and it almost is, except when I think about it, it is miles away. Mayhem was an extraordinary component of the Norwegian Black Metal scene of the 80s and early 90s. Suicide, murder, church burnings and huffing from a bag of dead stuff was the order of the day. In the forthcoming thriller, Timberlake plays a man who finds himself under scrutiny after his girlfriend, a young real-estate agent, is brutally murdered. Benicio Del Toro also stars as a detective trying to crack the case, while Alicia Silverstone plays his wife, who helps him on his hunt to discover the truth. The first trailer, which was released on Aug. 21, shows tensions rising as Del Toro learns unexpected truths as he hunts for the killer.

The Jesus & Mary Chain have announced a new live album titled Sunset 666, out August 4th via Fuzz Club. Recorded in 2018 while the band was opening for Nine Inch Nails in Los Angeles, it includes a version of “Sometimes Always” with former Belle & Sebastian singer Isobel Campbell. Hear that below.

Sunset 666 was recorded during a run of six shows at the Hollywood Palladium and spans the Scottish alt-rockers’ discography from 1985’s Psychocandy through their 2017 comeback album, Damage and Joy. The first 12 tracks capture The Jesus and Mary Chain’s full set from the final date on December 15th, 2018, while the latter five were recorded at the show that took place four days prior.

Besides “Sometimes Always,” Campbell guests on “Black and Blues” as a fill-in for Sky Ferreira. The album will be available in digital, CD, and multiple vinyl formats. Pre-orders are ongoing. Check out the artwork and tracklist below the jump.

Sky Ferreira will return to the stage this summer, announcing a run of five shows in late June and early July.

The first two gigs will take place on the East Coast, with Ferreira performing at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland, on June 29 and the Queen in Wilmington, Delaware, on June 30. She’ll then head to California, where she’ll play at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on July 6, the Observatory North Park in San Diego on July 7, and the Vermont in Los Angeles on July 8.

Sky Ferreira has confirmed her first tour dates of 2023.

In late June, the pop singer will play shows in Silver Spring, Maryland and Wilmington, Delaware. Then in July, as part of LA-based promoter Minty Boi’s fifth anniversary, she’ll take the stage in San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles, with the promise that more dates “will be announced soon.”

After being cast as the Material Girl pop icon in June 2022, the film was shelved by Universal in January 2023. Madonna, who co-wrote, produced, and is set to direct her own life story for the big screen, recently announced a world tour.

However, “Inventing Anna” alum Garner teased that’s not the end of Madonna’s biopic.

“I don’t want to tell too much,” Garner said to Entertainment Tonight. “I’m going to keep things…fingers crossed.”

Garner reportedly endured an intense audition process to land the role of Madonna. The so-called boot camp was also attended by Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, and Emma Laird, with singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira also having previously been considered for the lead part. Julia Fox was rumored to be cast as Madonna’s longtime friend and fellow actress Debi Mazar.

Madonna's life story apparently won't be getting the biopic treatment after all - at least not right now. On Jan. 24, multiple sources confirmed to Variety that the project, which was set to star "Inventing Anna" and "Ozark" actor Julia Garner, would not be moving forward after the "Like a Prayer" singer announced her world tour earlier in the month.

Since Madonna was set to direct the movie herself, it makes sense that she won't be available for the foreseeable future. According to the outlet, Madonna's "sole focus is the tour," which will keep her busy throughout 2023. However, insiders told Variety that the legendary pop star is still committed to making her biopic happen one day.

The news comes a week after the “Material Girl” singer announced a career-spanning, globe-trotting tour, raising speculation about the untitled film’s future. It has languished in development since 2020, when Madonna was set to direct and co-write with “Juno” scribe Diablo Cody. They completed the script in April 2021 despite rumors that Cody had exited the project, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Garner won the leading role in June 2022. The “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna” star was reportedly up against stars like Florence Pugh, Odessa Young, Alexa Demie, Sky Ferreira and Bebe Rexha during the months-long audition process.
