Warrens Face Their Final Demon in ‘The Conjuring: The Last Rites’
Image
After more than a decade of demonic encounters, exorcisms and box office dominance, The Conjuring franchise is preparing to close the case on its most enduring characters. The Conjuring: The Last Rites will see Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return for one final appearance as Ed and Lorraine Warren, bringing the curtain down on a series that has helped redefine mainstream horror since its debut in 2013.

Directed by Michael Chaves, The Last Rites takes place in 1986, several years after the Warrens’ retirement. When the Smurl family in Pennsylvania finds themselves terrorised by a malevolent presence, Ed and Lorraine are drawn back into the shadows for one last investigation. While previous entries often centred around isolated hauntings, this instalment is being framed as a more introspective reckoning for the couple, delving into their legacy, faith and the emotional cost of a life spent confronting darkness.

The film will also expand the Warren family circle.

“This thing in your house is a demon. It’s the first one that we’ve ever encountered,” Lorraine says to the family before later saying to Ed, “We were young. We were scared.

You can check it out in the embed above.

Entertainment Weekly recently shared that the film is set in 1986, five years after the events of The Devil Made Me Do It. The Warrens have retired from the exorcist business, largely due to Ed’s heart attack, the one sustained during the demonic happenings of the third film. ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Trailer Promises a Spooky Franchise Finale
Image
“The Conjuring: Last Rites” is ready to scare you silly.

The fourth — and apparently final — film in the mainline “Conjuring” series and the first since 2021’s “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” arrives in theaters on Sept. 5. And New Line Cinema has just released a new trailer that will give you the willies. Watch it below.

The story, set in 1986, is meant to wrap up the mainline “Conjuring” series but not totally close the book on the franchise. And the movie, judging by the trailer, really feels like a 1980s horror movie – in particular Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg’s immortal “Poltergeist.”

Since the first “Conjuring” premiered...

‘The Conjuring: The Last Rites’ Teaser: Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga Take One Final Stand as Exorcists Ed and Lorraine Warren
Image
Ed and Lorraine Warren have one final case to crack in the iconic “The Conjuring” franchise. The paranormal investigating duo, portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, first appeared onscreen in 2013; now 12 years and a slew of spinoff films later, the original “The Conjuring” will close out with “The Conjuring: The Last Rites.”

Michael Chaves returns to direct “The Last Rites.” In total, the franchise has three “Conjuring” films, three “Annabelle” features, two “Nun” movies, and “The Curse of La Llorona.” Chaves helmed “La Llorona,” “The Nun II,” and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.” A “Conjuring” series is in development at Max as well.

“The Last Rites” is set in the mid-1980s when the Warrens were retired. However, the couple returns for one last case involving the Smurl family. The Warrens most famously investigated the 1976 hauntings in Amityville, New York, which inspired the “Amityville Horror” franchise.

'I Adore You': The Conjuring's Patrick Wilson Honors On-Screen Wife Vera Farmiga as Final Sequel Wraps
Image
The Conjuring franchise has now seen Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising Ed and Lorraine Warren for more than ten years. Wilson marks the end of their onscreen marriage with a touching tribute.

Patrick Wilson took to Instagram to honor co-star Vera Farmiga for ten years of memories. The Conjuring universe was built on their characters Ed and Lorraine Warren, and it's only fitting that the series ended with a homage to the actors' onscreen marriage. Wilson and Farmiga starred in three Conjuring installments to date, and The Conjuring: Last Rites is their final movie together. Wilson marked his last day making that film by honoring everyone responsible for the thriving franchise, which will likely explore plots beyond the mainline series after Last Rites. Farmiga is a special mention among Wilson's roll call of people he appreciates.

Reacher's Season 2 Perfect Terminator Reference Was An Accident, Reveals Showrunner
Image
The Terminator 2 reference in Reacher was accidental, as it was written before Robert Patrick was cast. Despite considering changing the line, the showrunner decided to keep the reference for the enjoyment of viewers. The inclusion of Robert Patrick and the reference to Terminator 2 made the moment in Reacher season 2 memorable for audiences.

Reacher showrunner Nick Santora reveals that the Terminator 2: Judgement Day reference was an accident. The Prime Video series, based on Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, found Alan Ritchson's character reconnecting with his former unit in season 2, as they investigated the murder of one of their former members. Along with Ritchson, the cast of Reacher includes Malcolm Goodwin, Maria Sten, Shaun Sipos, Serinda Swan, Shannon Kook, Ferdinand Kingsley, and Robert Patrick. During the episode "Atm," antagonist Shane Langston alluded to Terminator 2, which many audiences enjoyed, given Patrick's role in the 1991 action film.

Reacher Season 2 Ending, Explained
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Reacher Season 2.

The Reacher Season 2 finale delivers an explosive conclusion, filled with action and intense moments. The investigation reveals the truth about Swan's fate and his innocence in the corruption scandal. Reacher's selflessness is evident as he distributes the money to the loved ones of his fallen friends and sets off on a new journey.

The Season 2 finale of Reacher premiered Thursday night on Prime Video and did not disappoint. Picking up with a time jump of over two and a half years after the first season’s finale, Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is once again traveling the country on his own without the burden of personal belongings weighing him down. That is except for a toothbrush, of course. When he receives a coded message via his bank account from Neagley (Maria Sten), he discovers their friend and former colleague, Franz (Luke Bilyk), of the 110th Special Investigators Unit,...

The Reacher Finale Makes Clear That This Show Is Better In The Binge Format
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Reacher" season 2.

One of the biggest questions (at least among those who haven't read the original Jack Reacher novels) many viewers had going into the "Reacher" season 2 finale regarded the mysterious A.M. (Ferdinand Kingsley). The show has constantly cut to this enigmatic man, who's gone by many names with those initials, throughout its second season. He's been on a dangerous mission across the country to transport some illegally contained missiles, and he's casually murdered multiple people in his quest to pull it off.

But beyond that, A.M.'s been irrelevant. For seven episodes straight, he hasn't shared a single scene with any of the other main characters, nor has he actually done much to affect their goals. Many viewers probably assumed this meant the series was saving the best with him for last. Maybe the season 2 finale would reveal some extra bit of game-changing information about A.

Reacher Season 2 Finale Explained: No More Bad Luck And Trouble
Image
This post contains spoilers for Season 2 of "Reacher."

The penultimate episode of "Reacher" season 2 ends on a cliffhanger, where Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) makes an impossible choice: he walks straight into the lion's den to save his dear friends. Things haven't been rosy for Reacher and his pals since the new season's inception, as the catalyst for the group banding together was the death of their mutual friend, Calvin Franz (Luke Bilyk), who served alongside them in the 110th Special Investigations Unit.

At the end of season 1, we see Reacher leaving Margrave to continue his wandering lifestyle, but the nature of this new case forces him to contend with his self-inflicted loneliness and tendency to keep people at bay. With his friends' lives on the line, Reacher must completely embrace his maverick spirit and throw a comically evil dude out of a helicopter to avenge his dead friends. And in typical Reacher fashion,...

Reacher Season 2 Just Explained The True Meaning Behind A Hidden Trailer Clue
Image
The Reacher season 2 trailer included a cryptic clue that pays off in the penultimate episode, adding to the anticipation and intrigue of the upcoming finale. Tony Swan, a key member of the 110th Special Investigations Unit, is shown playing "Crazy on You" by Heart, the song featured in the trailer, highlighting his importance to the plot and foreshadowing his pivotal role in the narrative. The choice of "Crazy on You" as the theme song holds deeper meaning, as the lyrics reflect the violence and militaristic threats faced by the 110th, suggesting that the action is set to reach its peak in the season finale.

The Reacher season 2 trailer managed to capture all the action and excitement that's featured so far, but it also contained a cryptic clue that paid off in the penultimate episode. The release of a trailer is an important hallmark in the build-up to a new season,...

Reacher's Solution To Season 2's Biggest Mystery Is Disappointing
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Reacher season 2, episode 6.

Reacher season 2 resolves the mystery surrounding Swan's role in an anticlimactic manner, disappointing fans. The show establishes the bond of the 110th Special Investigations Unit, causing a conflict among the team regarding Swan's betrayal. Swan's true identity and the team's history are not as compelling as the murder mystery in season 1, making season 2 less exciting overall.

Reacher season 2 has resolved its biggest mystery but in a disappointing way. Jack and the surviving members of the 110th Special Investigations Unit are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel while trying to uncover the truth about their former teammates' deaths. More than two years after Jack's brother, Joe Reacher died in Reacher season 1, he is once again pulled from his hobo lifestyle when he learns of the brutal murder of Calvin Franz (Luke Bilyk ) and the disappearance of Tony Swan (Shannon Kook...

Is Tony Swan A Traitor? Reacher Season 2 Character Fate Explained
Image
Warning: spoilers ahead for Reacher season 2.

Swan's true allegiance is revealed in episode 6, confirming he was never a traitor to the Special Investigators. Swan was recruited by Marlo Burns to investigate the arms deal between Langston and Am, explaining his presence on the New Age payroll. Although Swan's actual whereabouts remain unknown, it is speculated that Langston intended for him to take the fall and likely orchestrated his disappearance.

Reacher season 2 casts doubt over whether Tony Swan is a villain, but the question of whether he betrayed the Special Investigators has an unambiguously clear answer. Based on Lee Child's "Bad Luck & Trouble" book, Reacher season 2's story began when the titular titan's old friends from the 110th Special Investigators started dropping, quite literally, like flies. Franz, Orozco, Lowery, and Sanchez were all confirmed to be dead, while Neagley, Dixon, and O'Donnell appear as members of the main Reacher season 2 cast.

Reacher Season 2's Sixth Episode Brings The Tears With An Unexpected Death
Image
This post contains spoilers for episode 6 of "Reacher" season 2.

A sinister conspiracy is unraveling in the latest season of "Reacher," where the titular ex-Special Investigations officer (played by Alan Ritchson) and his old colleagues are in a race against time when it comes to stopping a deadly terrorist plan. Things are further complicated when Reacher and Neagley (Maria Sten) witness a building explode after a contract killer confesses that Tony Swan (Shannon Kook) hired him to kill members of Reacher's team. As Swan was close to everyone in Reacher's 110th Special Investigations Unit from years ago, this revelation impacts Reacher and co. emotionally, especially considering Swan's apparent involvement in the dangerous missile program, Project Littlewing.

Episode 6, titled "New York's Finest," rapidly moves towards dissecting the Swan problem after Reacher and his team interrogate Marlo Burns (Christina Cox), the Director of Operations at New Age, who is currently on the run.

1 Reacher Season 2 Theory Is Way Too Obvious (But It's Probably Right)
Image
Spoilers are ahead for Reacher season 2, episodes 1–5.

Reacher Season 2 puts Jack Reacher at the center of a life-threatening conspiracy targeting his former Army unit. David O'Donnell, a member of Reacher's former unit, is a suspicious character with the potential for hidden motives. Despite evidence pointing towards O'Donnell, it would be a letdown if he turned out to be the main villain, as it would be yet another rehash of a tired action-movie trope.

With Jack Reacher's sophomore outing nearing an end, one popular Reacher season 2 fan theory is way too obvious — but it's also probably right. Based on Lee Child's Bad Luck and Trouble, Reacher season 2 put its titular character at the center of a conspiracy that's targeting his former hand-picked Army unit. A drifter in his post-military days, Reacher (Alan Ritchson) has been wandering around since the first season's Margrave, Georgia-set counterfeiting case. When Reacher's fellow former military...

Reacher Season 2 Just Showed The Real Reason Reacher Believes Swan Is Innocent
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for Reacher season 2 episode "Burial" below!

In the fourth episode of season 2, the true threat of the "Little Wing" weapon was revealed. Flashbacks in episode 5 reveal that Swan, suspected of being a traitor, once saved Reacher's life and displays bravery and loyalty, hinting at his potential innocence. This also explains why Reacher refuses to believe Swan is guilty, despite the mounting evidence.

A key scene from Reacher's latest episode shows why Alan Ritchson's main character is having a hard time believing Swan is a traitor. In terms of introducing the character of Reacher to audiences, Amazon could scarcely have chosen better than the books they used for seasons 1 and 2. The first series adapted Killing Floor, the original novel in Lee Child's thriller series. This found Reacher shortly after he had left the army, and saw him investigate the murder of his brother and destroying a counterfeiting operation.

Reacher's Latest Villain Twist Makes A Major Season 2 Theory Much More Likely
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Reacher season 2, episode 5.

Jack is the only one who believes in Swan's innocence despite mounting evidence against him. Neagley and Dixon discover incriminating information about Swan at New Age's facility. Swan's absence from the show suggests there may be more to his ties to New Age than being Langston's cohort. Hortense Fields may have been impersonating Swan all along.

Tony Swan's involvement in New Age in Reacher season 2 makes a major villain theory more plausible. Jack Reacher and the other surviving members of the 110th Special Investigators continue their hunt for the killers of their former teammates in Reacher season 2, episode 5, "Burial." With Jorge Sanchez and Manuel Orozco now confirmed dead after Calvin Franz's murder, all eyes are on uncovering the truth about Swan's ties to New Age. That includes whether he actually betrayed the Special Investigators. While the rest of the squad is...
