In the lead-up to the 2024 election, a network of hundreds of bots created by anonymous persons shared posts on X that sowed distrust in Kamala Harris and called for Republicans to unite behind Donald Trump. After Trump’s victory and return to office, the bots began to lavish praise on figures in his administration, including Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The long-running Howard Stern Show is coming to an end after more than 20 years on SiriusXM, according to sources who spoke with The U.S. Sun.
Stern, now 71, has been one of the most famous names in radio for decades, with a huge contract and a loyal fan base. But it looks like his time on SiriusXM is about to be over.
Sources say Stern’s current five-year deal ends this fall, and while SiriusXM will offer him a new contract, it won’t be anywhere close to what he’s used to getting.
One insider said, “Stern’s contract is up in the fall and while Sirius is planning to make him an offer, they don’t intend for him to take it. Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want. It’s no longer worth the investment.”

As an average woman with average employment who makes a living writing about late-night television, I barely have time to think about the Stephen Colbert cancellation beyond the direct confines of my job. There’s just too much going on.
Ice arrests in New York have surged by 200 percent in the last five months, the amount due on my student loans keeps changing, there have been two earthquakes in my neighborhood this week alone. And that list is just a smidgen of what’s been happening in my own 10-mile radius. It doesn’t get into war, tariffs, censorship, pedophilia rings or the gutting of scientific research.
But somehow, while every facet of our society is being dismantled with cruel fervor, I keep hearing the nation’s most powerful politicians talking about Stephen Colbert. It’s not unexpected for Trump to harp on Colbert. The president has the cognitive skills...

On Thursday morning, David Ellison will clock in for his first day at work as a media mogul.
That’s when Ellison’s Skydance will officially get the keys to Paramount Global — the Sumner Redstone-created corporate giant whose falling fortunes come as streaming services and YouTube have spun the industry off its axis.
But Ellison has a plan. He wants to shed $2 billion in operating costs, revive the creative engine of the studio by bringing in a new team of executives and make the new firm a tech-leaning operation. It’s a blueprint that has remained unchanged even in the face of staggering obstacles, including foot-dragging from Shari Redstone, Sumner’s daughter and former Paramount custodian; eleventh-hour rival bids; and an ugly, protracted legal battle between President Trump and CBS.
Now the Ellison era at Paramount truly begins. Here’s what he’s up against, what he’s got...

Screenwriters from Writers Guild of America, also including David Simon and Celine Song, call out president’s ‘authoritarian assault’ on free speech
More than 2,300 members of the Writers Guild of America, including Spike Lee and Adam McKay, have signed an open letter decrying the actions of Donald Trump’s administration that represent “an unprecedented, authoritarian assault” on free speech.
The letter, a combined effort from the WGA East and West branches, cites the US president’s “baseless lawsuits” against news organizations that have “published stories he does not like and leveraged them into payoffs”. It specifically references Paramount’s decision to pay Trump $16m to settle a “meritless lawsuit” about a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. The letter notes that Trump “retaliated against publications reporting factually on the White House and threatened broadcasters’ licenses”, and has repeatedly called for the cancellation of programs that criticize him.

More than 2,300 members of the Writers Guild of America have signed an open letter decrying recent actions taken by President Trump and his administration that they say represent “an unprecedented, authoritarian assault.”
The WGA East and WGA West union members signing the letter include Spike Lee, Adam McKay, Ilana Glazer, Mike Schur, Liz Merriwether and Tony Gilroy.
The letter cites Trump’s “baseless lawsuits” against news organizations that have “published stories he does not like and leveraged them into payoffs”; for example, it points to Paramount Global’s agreement last month to pay Trump $16 million to settle “a meritless lawsuit” against CBS over a “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris that Trump alleged was deceptively edited. In addition, the letter notes, Trump has “retaliated against publications reporting factually on the White House and threatened broadcasters’ licenses,” and has regularly called for the cancelation of news and entertainment TV shows that criticize him.

The list of mainstream news figures that Donald Trump hasn’t gone after continues to dwindle.
On Monday night, Trump turned his attention to Gayle King, the co-host of CBS Mornings, by sharing a New York Post story that cast doubt on her future at the network with the pending Skydance-Paramount Global merger, that’s set to close Thursday.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in Trump. She never had the courage to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!”
The Post story, quoting unnamed sources, described CBS Mornings as “woke,” citing an appearance earlier this year by Bob the Drag Queen, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race and author of the novel Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert. The story also cited the fact that King and another co-host, Nate Burleson, are Black, as is the executive producer,...

In 2012, The Los Angeles Times’ ailing Chicago-based parent Tribune Co. was exiting Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a yearslong slog that its then-owner, brash real estate mogul Sam Zell, called a “deal from hell.” Rupert Murdoch reportedly took interest in snapping up the Times, but decided against a bid (the mogul was busy: he was aiming to cleave off less profitable papers the New York Post and Wall Street Journal into a separate firm from his more lucrative 20th Century studios business and Fox News).
Times change, but the 94-year-old’s interest in newspapers hasn’t. On Aug. 4, his Robert Thomson-run papers business, News Corp, unveiled a plan to bring the New York Post to the West coast with the launch of The California Post, a daily print tabloid headquartered in L.A. to be led by Nick Papps, a veteran of Murdoch’s Australian papers, by next year. Gayle King has been with ‘CBS Mornings’ since before the show got reformatted from ‘CBS This Morning’ in 2021. However, it looks like the clock is ticking as the co-host may have to say goodbye to the show for good, thanks to an uproar within its audience.
According to a report by the New York Post, the audience is over the”woke” content on ‘CBS Mornings‘ and instead wants optimism and joy in the episodes. On the other hand, King does not seem interested in making changes to her coverage, despite the pushback, which puts her future with the show in jeopardy.
A source stated,
The audience doesn’t want woke. It doesn’t like progressive and provocative bookings. The morning show audience wants optimism and cheer and joy and what they were producing is at odds with audience expectations.

Last week, former Vice President Kamala Harris announced the upcoming release of a memoir, 107 Days, which will focus on her presidential campaign in 2024.
In a video announcement posted on X, Harris could be seen holding a copy of her memoir. She told her followers that she spent 107 days “travelling the country” and “fighting for our future” during what she called “the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.”
Harris ended up losing to Donald Trump after a short but eventful campaign.
“It was intense, high stakes, and deeply personal, for me and for so many of you,” she said. “Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days: talking with my team, my family, my friends, and pulling my thoughts together. In essence, writing a journal that is this book: 107 Days.

Donald Trump appeared delighted when he found out that Sydney Sweeney is reportedly a registered Republican amid continued uproar over her American Eagle jeans commercials. Various news outlets, including The Guardian, recently reported the “Euphoria” and “White Lotus” Emmy nominee listed her party affiliation as Republican while registering to vote in Florida in June 2024, a few months before Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
“She’s a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad!” Trump told reporters July 3 while boarding Air Force One in Allentown, Penn. (via The Daily Beast). “Is that right, is Sydney Sweeney…? You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s what I wouldn’t have known. But I’m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic!”

Updated: Following a jobs report Friday that showed the U.S. labor market slowing, Donald Trump took aim at the statistics themselves.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said he was directing his team to fire the Commissioner of Labor Statistics, Erika McEntarfer, nominated for the role by Joe Biden. Without offering evidence, he alleged that she “faked” jobs numbers before the election to help Kamala Harris, and that she should be “replaced with someone much more competent and qualified.”
Earlier on Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in its monthly jobs report, estimated that just 73,000 jobs were created in July, and it revised figures for previous months to show that May job growth was just 19,000, while June hiring was just 14,000. The Bls typically revises previous months’ data, as more data comes in, and noted that this revision was higher than normal.

To announce that she would not be running for any public office — including governor of California, a race she had already declined to enter in a written statement — Kamala Harris chose a fitting venue. The former Vice President gave her first major televised interview since losing last year’s presidential election to Stephen Colbert, a man who can likely relate to her current situation. Both Harris and Colbert are exiting their prominent positions of influence, not entirely of their own volition. And both leave the helm of once-enduring institutions that seem to be crumbling behind them. The politician and the entertainer will both be just fine on their own, a fact it was hard to deny as Harris dedicated the bulk of the conversation to promoting an upcoming memoir, not sounding the alarm on injustice. It’s the systems they’re a face of that deserve our concern.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-ma) said that the responses from Skydance and Paramount Global to her and other senators’ queries were “dodgy,” as she called for an independent investigation as to whether there was a “side deal” with Donald Trump.
On Thursday, in a letter to Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-vt) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Or), Skydance’s general counsel Stephanie Kyoko McKinnon wrote that the company was in full compliance with anti-bribery laws as it sought regulatory approval of its acquisition of Paramount Global.
Paramount Global co-ceo George Cheeks also responded to the lawmakers, in a letter that defended the company’s decision to settle Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News over the way that 60 Minutes edited an interview with Kamala Harris. Sen. Elizabeth Warren isn’t convinced that Paramount Global and Skydance Media did not engage in “corrupt side deals or political favors” with the Trump administration to get their merger approved.
Warren, the senior U.S. senator from Massachusetts, had sent letters to Skydance CEO David Ellison (on July 21) and Paramount Global’s three co-CEOs (on May 19), co-signed by Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon). The senators asked questions about Paramount and CBS’s $16 million settlement with President Trump over his “60 Minutes” lawsuit and the Skydance-Paramount merger deal — with the senators suggesting the settlement amounted to a bribe.
Both Skydance and Paramount replied to the senators in letters dated July 31, with executives from both companies affirming they complied with all laws. But Warren wasn’t satisfied with their answers.

I’d like to think I’m past the point where the 2024 presidential election can break my spirit. There’s no room to lament about the losers. But here we are, seven months into 2025, and I’m filled with a hollow rage and a familiar disappointment as I sit through an interview that feels entirely disconnected from the urgency of our reality. And hey, I’m not so naive that I believe that Stephen Colbert and former Vice President Kamala Harris can save us from Trump or even have the desire to do so. It’s just so irritating to be reminded of how incapable of it they are — like during tonight’s 30-minute campaign/book ad.

Updated: Kamala Harris, in her first post-2024 election interview, said that what has most surprised her about Donald Trump’s term is the level of capitulation.
“I didn’t predict that; I did not see that coming,” Harris told Stephen Colbert on Thursday on CBS’ The Late Show.
Colbert had asked Harris whether she would like to say “I told you so,” given that she predicted a number of things that Trump is now doing, including alienating allies and giving tax cuts to the rich.

“I believed that on some level, there should be many who consider themselves to be guardians of our system and our democracy, who just capitulated,” she responded.

During her Thursday night appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Kamala Harris explained her decision to not run for California governor next year, and her plan to steer clear from politics for now.
“Listen, I am a devout public servant. I have spent my entire career in service of the people. I thought a lot about running for governor. I love my state, I love California,” the former vice president said. “Recently I made the decision that I just, for now, I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken.”
Harris continued that while she “always believed that as fragile as our democracy is, our systems would be strong enough to defend our most fundamental principles, and I think right now that they’re not as strong as they need to be.”

Kamala Harris appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” Thursday night just hours after it was announced she is going to release “107 Days,” a memoir about the 2024 presidential election.
In a preview clip from the show, Colbert asked her if the reason she said she wouldn’t run for governor of California is because she is going to run for a different office, and Harris responded, “No. I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken.”

During the height of Veep’s run it was funny to point to real-life moments that coincided with plot lines on the show. Veep was excellent at capturing the stupid, evil machinations in Washington that the public was often shielded from. But when Trump entered the presidential primaries, that thin veil between the power hungry pugilism and the polite external veneer fell away for good. And by the show’s end in 2019, reality was outpacing the absurdity of the show.
The genius of Veep, however, is that even when we’ve far exceeded the scope of the jokes, we’ve never left the spirit of them. Today’s iteration? Former Vice President Kamala Harris is releasing a book after announcing that she wouldn’t be running for governor of California. Skydance Media has responded to an inquiry from three left-wing U.S. senators who expressed concerns about “bribery” with respect to the Trump administration’s approval of its deal to acquire Paramount Global — and had questioned whether Skydance had any part in the cancellation of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”
In a July 21 letter to Skydance CEO David Ellison, Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Ron Wyden asked a series of pointed questions about Skydance’s Paramount deal. Among those: “Is there currently any arrangement under which you or Skydance will provide compensation, advertising, or promotional activities that in any way assist President Trump, his family, his presidential library, or other Administration officials?” The letter also asked, “Were you or other Skydance executives involved in discussions about canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert?”

It may be the only late-night TV show with an expiration date, but The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is still the genre's biggest draw. So it's fitting that former Vice President Kamala Harris is giving the comedy show a prestigious honor.
Harris will be a guest on the Thursday, July 31, episode of The Late Show. In a surprising move, it will be the former presidential candidate's first interview since the 2024 election. It also comes after Harris announced she will not run for governor of California, but is writing a book about her 107-day campaign for the White House. The politician will make her eighth overall appearance on the CBS late-night show.
Stephen Colbert previously interviewed Harris on The Late Show in October 2024. The Democrat also made an appearance on Saturday Night Live just a couple of weeks later in an effort to help late-night TV push her to an election victory.

Exclusive: Skydance has responded to a series of queries from a group of Senate Democrats, declaring that it complied with anti-bribery laws as it worked to close its acquisition of Paramount Global.
“Throughout its history and during the review of the proposed acquisition of Paramount, Skydance has fully complied with all applicable laws, including our nation’s anti-bribery laws,” Skydance General Counsel Stephanie Kyoko McKinnon wrote in a letter to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-ma), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-vt) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Or).
Earlier this month, the three senators sent a letter to Skydance CEO David Ellison, pointing out that it is “illegal to corruptly give anything of value to federal officials to influence an official act.” Specifically, the senators pointed to President Donald Trump’s claim that Paramount Global’s $16 million settlement of his lawsuit against CBS also came with an additional $16 million in public service advertising commitments.

Tonight, former Vice President Kamala Harris will make a last-minute appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, despite the fact that she was never supposed to be on the schedule and no one besides the Late Show establishment wants her there.
This week, Harris announced that she will release a memoir about her abbreviated 2024 presidential campaign titled 107 Days later this year, and she also informed her followers that she will not run for Governor of California in the state’s 2026 election. These two bulletins, coupled with the start of what suspiciously appears to be a media blitz, have pundits and political strategists speculating that Harris is beginning to lay the groundwork for another presidential campaign in 2028.
If so, it’s incumbent upon the world of political comedy to mockingly make sure that the candidate who couldn’t poll higher than 6 percent in her home state’s 2020 primary strongly reconsiders such a move.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris’ first interview since the 2024 election will happen on Thursday night as she heads to “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”
She previously stopped by the CBS program back in October, when she bluntly called out all the ways President Trump has lost in the past, including the 2020 election.
The announcement of her return to the talk show came Thursday morning just after the news that Harris is releasing a book called “107 Days,” detailing her presidential campaign.
“What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story. A day after announcing that she wouldn’t be running for California Governor, Kamala Harris is heading back to late-night.
The former Vice President will appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight (Thursday July 31). It marks her first interview since the 2024 Presidential election.
Harris’ last visit to the Ed Sullivan Theater was on Tuesday October 8, 2024, just ahead of the election, which she lost to President Donald Trump.
The former Veep also announced earlier today that she was writing a book – 107 Days – about her campaign for the presidency.
It’s interesting timing for Colbert, whose show was unceremoniously canceled by CBS earlier this month. CBS said it was purely for financial reasons, but there has also been the specter of Trump, whose lawsuit The Late Show’s parent company Paramount Global settled in order to get its deal with Skydance over the line.

Steve Jobs’ 27-year-old daughter, Eve Jobs, has caused a stir by choosing to keep her wedding dress – and other nuptial details – private from the public.
Eve married Harry Charles with a celebration that cost a staggering $6.7 million. Designed by event planner Stanlee Gatti, the festivities took place in the English countryside region, the Cotswolds, well known to be a celebrity hotspot.
A star-studded event, A-listers in attendance included Kamala Harris and Kourtney Kardashian.
Given the high-profile nature of the event, many people gathered outside of the St. Michael’s and All Angels Church in Great Tew with hopes of catching a glimpse of Eve. However, onlookers were disappointed when Eve never showed up, instead choosing to avoid the crowd by entering the church through a back door.
A publicist for the event eventually informed crowds that Eve and Charles would not be making a public appearance and were uninterested in engaging with the crowds.

Kamala Harris’ announcement that she would not enter the race for California governor was quickly followed by a burst of praise from Democrats who’ve already launched their campaigns.
That’s a familiar ritual whenever a big-name candidate decides not to run, with would-be rivals from the same party offering up kind words and likely having a sense of relief.
Harris would have entered the race as the front-runner, according to recent polls, and the Democratic field likely would have dwindled. But had she run, she would have to navigate voter discontent going into 2026.
Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who launched his gubernatorial bid last year just as Harris was starting her presidential run, wrote on X: “I have deep respect for Vice President Kamala Harris and her decades of leadership and public service to the people of California and our nation. The former Vice President of the United States has spent the “past six months” reflecting on how she can continue fighting for the American people and while many have asked her to run for Governor, she has decided not to run in this election.
“For now, my leadership—and public service—will not be in elected office,” Harris said in a statement released on Wednesday (July 30).

After months of speculation and impressive polling, the former Vice President has made it official: She’s not going to be on the ballot to lead the Golden State. “After deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election,” Harris said Wednesday.
The news certainly comes as a surprise to those outside Harris’ inner circle, though sources say Gov. Gavin Newsom was in the loop about what was going on.
Earlier this year, around the time of the Oscars, Harris told friends and deep-pocketed donors that she would make a final decision on running for governor by the end of the summer. A little ahead of schedule, today’s announcement may send some...

President Donald Trump is still speaking out about the cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and now he's expressing that he's not the sole reason the show is coming to an end in 2026. That is not to say he is avoiding any jabs about the show's demise. In fact, he is essentially threatening that other late-night shows could follow suit.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform (via Variety) to speak more about the cancellation of Colbert's show. He wanted to make it clear that, while everyone seems to think that he's "solely responsible" for the show coming to an end, Trump, says that's simply "not true." Trump puts much of the blame on the late-night show, seeing "$50 Million Dollars a year" in losses for the network alongside Colbert's "pure lack of Talent."

The chairman of the FCC has opened another inquiry into a major media company, this time over the relationship between Comcast’s NBCUniversal and its local broadcast affiliates.
Brendan Carr informed Comcast CEO Brian Roberts of the inquiry in a letter sent on Tuesday.
In the letter, first reported by Newsmax, Carr wrote that the “FCC has an interest in and the authority to promote the public interest and to ensure that local broadcast TV stations retain the economic and operational independence necessary to meet their public interest obligations. I want to ensure that Comcast’s relationships with local broadcast TV stations comply with all of the relevant federal regulations—again, regulations designed to ensure that local stations meet their public interest obligations.”
He wrote that he had heard “numerous reports that the approach that NBC and other similarly situated networks are taking in recent negotiations is an attempt to...

Jay Leno has denounced fellow TV hosts who have criticized CBS’s decision to axe The Late Show.
On July 17, CBS announced that Stephen Colbert’s show, well-documented to be the network’s most successful, was being canceled due to “purely” financial reasons.
The decision comes in the wake of CBS agreeing to settle a lawsuit by paying millions to President Donald Trump, seemingly to receive the FCC’s approval for a merger with the entertainment company Skydance. Trump first filed the lawsuit after CBS aired a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, which the president claimed was deceptively edited.
CBS’s choice to bow to Trump’s wishes has been criticized by many news outlets and hosts – including Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver and Seth Meyers – as a failure to uphold journalistic integrity.
