Siobhan Morgan has been hired as head of development at Sheffield and London-based Warp Films, to bolster the ouftit’s television output.

Morgan will work with joint CEOs Mark Herbert and Peter Carlton to grow the television drama slate. She will oversee all development projects, working with writers such as Sean Conway, Fran Poletti and Colette Kane.

The Edinburgh TV festival has revealed the 30 successful candidates selected for its popular ‘Ones to Watch’ program.

Reflecting the nature of the U.K. television industry, more than 70% of the candidates, including producers, directors, writers and journalists, are freelance, and the rest are from leading production companies and broadcasters, including the BBC, Lime Pictures, True North and Rdf. Of the 30 selected, 77% are women, 40% are from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (Bame) backgrounds, 37% work outside of London and 33% are disabled.

The candidates will benefit from bespoke sessions and training, access to the digital edition of the TV Festival in August, and receive 12 months of mentoring from senior industry figures.

Exclusive: $13m project from Salon Pictures will chart story of soldier who suffered severe burns during the Falklands War; Embankment to sell.

The story of Simon Weston, the British army veteran who endured severe burns during the Falklands War, is to be told in an ambitious new film which has Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man) attached to direct.

Salon Pictures is producing the feature.

Weston came back from the brink of death to rebuild his life. He wrote best-selling autobiographies, campaigned tirelessly for charity and is regarded by many as a symbol of Britain’s war in the Falklands.

During the Falklands War in 1982 Weston was a young soldier on the ship Rfa Sir Galahad when an Argentine Skyhawk dropped a 500lb bomb, killing most of his platoon. His fight for survival and recovery took him to a dark abyss.

UK production outfit Salon Pictures is in Cannes talking to financiers about new Ron Scalpello (Offender) documentary Death or Glory, about the rivalries between successful boxers Michael Watson, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Gerald McClellan.

Also new to Salon’s development slate is horror Seaholme from former Screen Star of Tomorrow writer-director Rob Savage.

The film centres on a group of high-school kids who get more than they bargained for when they adopt a powerful creature they find washed to shore in a small coastal New York town.

Sharon Horgan comedy Meet Me In Ten Years, from writer Frances Poletti, and biopics My Name is Lenny and Churchill are also on the slate.

Fledgling London-based production company Salon Pictures has announced three new female directors for its projects. Salon founders Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter will produce all three films.

Norwegian director Eva Sørhaug (90 Minutes) will adapt the script and direct Lenny, a biopic of bareknuckle fighter Lenny McLean. Originally set up by Taussig and Van Carter at Revolver, Salon has now acquired the underlying book rights.

Actor/writer/director Sharon Horgan, known for UK TV shows like Pulling, is attached to direct feature Meet Me in Ten Years, written by Student Oscar-winner Frances Poletti.

Finally, Pratibha Parmar will direct Intercourse, a theatrical documentary about the life and work of radical feminist writer and activist Andrea Dworkin. A number of actresses will portray Dworkin in the project. Parmar’s credits include Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth.
