Exclusive: Comedy Central is making changes to its late-night lineup.

The Paramount Global network has canceled animated series Tooning Out The News and Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God.

Both shows are exec produced by Stephen Colbert.

Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God ran for two seasons on the network. It launched in September 2021, initially as Tha God’s Honest Truth before it was rebranded for its second season. The weekly series turned into more of a panel format for the second season, which premiered last July after The Daily Show.

The half-hour show featured influential guests, unlikely pairings of comedians, outspoken celebrities and thought-leaders across the political spectrum, debating the current events permeating politics and culture with guests unpacking the stories blazing the headlines as well as Charlamagne’s unfiltered take on the most talked about topics.

Stephen Colbert’s ‘Tooning Out The News’ Handed Season 3 Extension, Sets Up State Of The Union Special

Exclusive: Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News will be back for more episodes.

The show, which airs at 11:30pm after The Daily Show on Comedy Central, has had its third season extended and will air a State of the Union special.

The third season included 13 episodes running from October 5, 2022 through February 1, 2023. It has now been expanded for 12 more episodes, running into May with guests including Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tig Notaro.

Produced by CBS Television Studios, it features a cast of animated characters, led by anchor James Smartwood, mocking news of the day, and interviewing real world guests and newsmakers.

The move comes ahead of the show’s Special Coverage of the State of the Union episode on February 8.

Comedy Central Sets October Premiere Date for ‘Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News’ (Exclusive)

Comedy Central has set a premiere date for animated news satire show “Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News.” TheWrap can exclusively reveal it heads to the small screen on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The half-hour show, which features animated characters lampooning top news stories, and interviewing real-world guests, will air after “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.” It’s move to Comedy Central from its original home of CBS All Access (before it was Paramount+) was announced in May.

TheWrap also has a first look at the new promo of the show, which has its own takes on many of the primetime cable news hosts.

“Tooning Out the News” will span 13 episodes. Each episode will be made up of segments including big news, virtue signal, hot take and inside the hill. The duo have renewed their overall deal at the studio, originally signed in 2020, where they will continue to write and produce across all platforms.

Leech and Smilovitz are currently co-creators and co-executive producers of CBS Studios/Paramount+ series Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out The News. Each previously served as a supervising producer on Our Cartoon President for CBS Studios/Showtime.

Smilovitz was most recently a writer on Comedy Central’s show Problematic With Moshe Kasher. Previously, he was a writer for Robert Smigel’s Triumph’s Election Watch 2016, and before that he was a writer on The Late Show With David Letterman.

Exclusive: Comedy Central is launching the first new original series under ViacomCBS network’s current push in adult animation. Fairview, executive produced by Stephen Colbert and the team behind Paramount+’s Emmy-nominated Tooning Out the News and Showtime’s Our Cartoon President, will debut Feb. 9 at 8:30 pm, following South Park.

Comedy Central in 2020 signaled a programming shift focused on ramping up adult animated content and building an original slate around South Park. The eight-episode Fairview, produced by ViacomCBS sibling CBS Studios, was one of a slew of series ordered, including Daria spinoff Jodie and a Beavis and Butt-Head revival.

Exclusive: Stephen Colbert is expanding his relationship with Comedy Central.

The host of The Late Show has scored two new animated projects – a series and a feature – at the ViacomCBS network where he used to host The Colbert Report.

He is exec producing half-hour topical comedy series Fairview and animated feature Washingtonia, which both come from CBS Studios.

The deal, which comes on the heels of MTV Entertainment Studios’ new deal with Trey Parker and Matt Stone, comes after it launched the Colbert-ep’d talk show Tha God’s Honest Truth with Charlamagne Tha God.

The series and the feature come from the team behind Paramount+’s Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News, which was recently nominated for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series at the Emmys, and Showtime’s Our Cartoon President.
