‘The Hellion’ DVD Review
Stars: Eaoifa Forward, Dan Paton, Rachel Warren, Roman Kemp, Stuart Nurse, Sameera Steward, Maria Popska, Fin Banks, Nathan Brine | Written and Directed by C.A. Cooper

The Hellion tells the story of Alice (Eaoifa Forward), a troubled young woman (we know this as her eyebrows are knitted in a perpetual state of worry from the very first frame) who sets off on a trip with her friend Lizzy (Rachel Warren) and her boyfriend Carl (Dan Paton) to a deserted holiday home by the sea. Owned by Lizzy’s father and closed for the season, the keys are left unattended long enough to find their way into Lizzy’s possession. Of course, this is an opportunity not to be squandered and the trio set up shop on the top floor, setting in motion a series of increasingly unbelievable (and occasionally ridiculous) events that render them trapped, with no means of escape and...

The Snare Review
The Snare‘s biggest problem (among Many), is that stakes are never defined. Creator C.A. Cooper introduces three (hollow) characters, a seaside vacation setting and a conflict. No backstory or forward thinking, just a situation where horrors will presumably present themselves. Imagine being told “this is a horror movie, and it is meant to scare you,” without having any proof of concept. Not exactly the rousing introduction you’d hope for, but at least expectations are set early – and even then, they’re barely met.

Eaoifa Forward stars as Alice Clarke, a girl who’s first seen packing a suitcase. Her father (?) walks into the room and asks a few questions, but before long, she’s driving in a car with friends Lizzy (Rachel Warren) and Carl (Dan Paton). Then, after some piggish “Would You Rather?” questions from Carl, the gang arrives at a vacant holiday apartment complex where they’re going to party irresponsibly.

'The Snare': Film Review
C.A. Cooper
C.A. Cooper’s debut horror feature concerns three friends who find themselves locked in a confined space and forced to endure unimaginable horrors. Which means that moviegoers who make the unfortunate choice of seeing The Snare will have much to relate to.

This minimalist indie horror exercise doesn’t feature much of a plot. The central characters are Alice (Eaoifa Forward), suffering from emotional disturbance after being sexually abused by her father for many years; her best friend Lizzy (Rachel Warren); and Lizzy’s scuzzy boyfriend Carl (Dan Paton). For reasons that are never made clear, the trio decides to spend a drunken,...

‘The Snare’ Review
Stars: Eaoifa Forward, Dan Paton, Rachel Warren, Roman Kemp, Stuart Nurse, Sameera Steward, Maria Popska | Written and Directed by C.A. Cooper

In the interest of full disclosure I feel I should say now that this is my first review in several years and with that in mind, I approached this review of C.A. Cooper’s feature debut, The Snare, with some trepidation. Part of me was hoping for a film that would elicit a balanced, in-depth review hitting on both the good and bad aspects, while another part longed for an amazing experience that I could slather in superlatives and praise. However, there is still that other part that longs for something that demands my venom. The part that is angry to have endured a film and screams to vent.

Upon viewing The Snare, which part would be left sated?

The Snare tells the story of Alice (Eaoifa Forward), a...

Arguably above all other genres, the horror is one that we know how to do best on our shores. With two shorts under his belt already, Cooper makes his first foray into the world of features here, and it’s shaping up to be a promising debut. If you didn’t know it, you really wouldn’t think this was made on a budget of £4,000.

Green Goblin revealed in new 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' photo
Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina, and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Since Sony seems determined to give away just about every twist and turn in the upcoming reboot sequel "Amazing Spider-Man 2," a spoiler warning probably isn't necessary for the the latest photo released from the film. However, if you've somehow been able to avoid spoilers thus far, click away.  It's been common knowledge for some time that Dane DeHaan ("Place Beyond the Pines") is playing Harry Osborn, son of OsCorp founder Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper).  A onetime pal of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), Harry eventually turns into the Green Goblin and fights Spidey in the gears of a giant clock, "Modern Times"-style....
