Growing ever sweeter with each passing season, Netflix's "Sweet Magnolias" premiered in 2020 and was renewed for season 5 in April 2025. However, as fans who have kept up with the romantic drama's twists and turns know, the upcoming fifth season will be the show's second one without one of the key players of the first three seasons. Chris Klein's Dr. Bill Townsend is Maddie Townsend's (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) former husband who starts out as something of an antagonist (being in the middle of a turbulent divorce with the main character will do that). While the two later somewhat reconcile, Bill remains something of a pot-stirrer for his entire time on the show.
Considering the role he plays, it's fitting that Bill's departure features not one, but two surprises. As season 3 comes to a close, he moves away from Serenity, South Carolina in a bid to reinvent himself. Such a development...

We know who's leaving Chicago Fire in the upcoming season. Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) have been shown the door, even though there are a few episodes left in the current season. We're not here to talk about them, though. We're here to discuss the characters who are essential to the show's make up.
Ritter and Carver are going to be major losses, but the show will survive without them. The four characters we've selected below are exceptions to this rule. It would be hard to imagine Chicago Fire without them, and as such, we're confident they will stick around for season 14. At least we hope. My goodness, can you imagine?

Chicago Fire is in the home stretch. The firefighting drama is nearing end of its current season, and as such, details about the finale episode are starting to surface. We already know that two of the show's characters, Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), will be saying goodbye at some point before the season 14 premiere.

Chicago Med season 10 episode 10, "Together One Last Time," left fans with a lot to process in an episode that was full of impactful moments for our favorite doctors, but the episode also ended with a bit of a somber note that has sparked conversation among Chicago Med fans.
“In memory of Michael Waxman,” read the dedication card that ended the episode. It was a moment designed to honor a beloved member of the One Chicago family, one whose name might not have immediately been recognizable, as Waxman worked behind the scenes on the show rather than appearing as a member of the cast.
So what was Waxman’s connection to the One Chicago franchise?
Waxman was a key part of Chicago Med’s early years, serving as an executive producer from 2015 to 2019 and directing 18 episodes across the first six seasons. In addition to serving as a producer across the show’s first four seasons,...

Picture a dystopian time where one had to be chosen and deemed “worthy” in order to become a father. That’s what happens in Daddy, a part sci-fi, part dark comedy heading to VOD on April 15. Directed by Jono Sherman and Neal Kelley, the movie centers on four men Andrew (Kelley), Jeremy (Sherman), Sebastian (Yuriy Sardarov), and Mo (Pomme Koch) who enter a state-sanctioned retreat in remote California where they find themselves without any guide or “monitor” decision-maker or any instructions. They are left to their own devices, forced to get to know one another while on this journey in hopes of their approval for fatherhood. As time goes on paranoia and panic set in with a mysterious guest Ally played by Jacqueline Toboni, which exacerbates things. For Sardarov, it’s a bit of a departure from Brian “Otis” Zvonecek, the fan favorite Truck 81 driver on Chicago Fire for what would be eight seasons.

Since 2012, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas' firefighter procedural, Chicago Fire, has proven that primetime television isn't a cultural darling of the past. As part of the One Chicago franchise, the series showcases the lives of the brave first responders of the Chicago Fire Department's Firehouse 51. Many faces have come and gone over the course of 13 seasons, Eamonn Walker as Wallace Boden and Yuriy Sardarov as Brian "Otis" Zvoncek being two heartbreaking departures for the hit NBC procedural.
Walker left as a series regular, occasionally popping in to reprise his beloved role as Chief Boden, whose shoes were filled by Dermott Mulroney’s Chief Dom Pascal. Well, Neal Kelly and Jono Sherman's movie Daddyis certainly not the father ... of dystopian satires. The filmmaker's "sci-fi comedy" sees four very different men attend a government-sanctioned Fatherhood Development Retreat nestled in secluded California mountains. The four participants — Sebastian (Yuriy Sardarov),Andrew (Neal Kelley), Jeremy (Jono Sherman), and Mo (Pomme Koch) — are dropped off on remote federal property and forced to surrender their cell phones as they wait for their assigned monitor to arrive and guide the program. Presumably, in the near future, the Department of Procreation decides who is legally eligible to have children in the United States. Those who fail the "highly competitive" fatherhood program are issued a mandatory vasectomy and are "permanently banned from fathering children" in the country.

Exciting news has been revealed for fans of Chicago Fire. Actor Eamonn Walker is set to make his return as the fan favorite character Boden, but the comeback will be short-lived.
Per Variety, Walker is set to reprise his role as Boden in an episode of Chicago Fire. This will mark the first time Walker has been seen as Boden since leaving the show at the end of Season 12 in 2024. He will appear in the episode titled "Post-Mortem," which is set to premiere on April 16. In the episode, according to its official logline, Boden is hired by Commissioner Grissom (Gary Cole) to "run a post-incident analysis following a house fire that collapsed with a firefighter.”

Chicago Fire puts characters in danger on a weekly basis. We see firefighters and medics putting their lives on the line to protect others. Unfortunately, it doesn't always end well. There have been several deaths over the course of the show's 13 seasons. Some of which, we are still reeling from.
In an effort to celebrate, grieve, and simply remember the Chicago Fire characters who have fallen, we decided to compile a list of every major death that has occurred, from the pilot to the present. It gets a little bleak, but such are the risks of the job. Our one rule is that the character in question had to have worked as a firefighter/medic.

It's cliched to refer to a landmark or location as a character in a show, but Molly's Pub comes close. The bar has appeared in all four One Chicago shows, and been the setting of some of the most loved and revisited moments in Chicago Fire history.
Which is why the announcement made by Herrmann (David Eigenberg) during the episode "Born of Fire" was so noteworthy. The character informed his 51 co-workers that he intends to expand Molly's into a franchise, and likens it to the real life restaurant chain Ditka's.
There are a lot of dangling plot threads to address post-"Born of Fire," but the title of the follow up episode, leads us to believe that the Molly's Pub expansion will be getting more screen time. The episode is titled "Bar Time." Granted, Chicago Fire likes to sometimes sneak double meanings into titles, but "Bar Time" seems to be...

Dick Wolf's One Chicago shows have lots and lots of memorable characters at any given time, but some of them stand out from the massive crowd of Windy City first responders. That's why it came as a blow when, in 2022, "Chicago P.D." favorite Jesse Lee Soffer bid the show farewell. Soffer's Jay Halstead was a fan darling for much of his time on the show, both by himself and as one half of the popular "Linstead" relationship with Sophia Bush's Detective Erin Lindsay.
Unlike "Chicago Fire" star Yuri Sardarov -- whose character was written out as one of the major emotional blows the franchise likes to deal every once in a while -- it was immediately clear to all that Soffer's departure from the show was the actor's personal choice. He didn't really elaborate on his reasons at the time, but in a 2023 interview with Variety, Soffer finally opened...

"Relief Cut" was sold as, and will be remembered as, the episode in which Stellaride decided to start a family. The whole episode was building up to their decision, and the final scene delivered with a twist that well, we have all seen before.
We digress. The episode also had some interesting subplots involving secondary characters. We had major developments in the romantic lives of two 51 members, one negative and one positive. We will start with the negative, which was bestowed upon poor Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri).
Ritter's boyfriend broke up with him
The character had been dating a police officer for most of season 13, but things were starting to take a turn for the worse by the start of "Relief Cut." So much so, in fact, that he got distracted in the field, and failed to carry out a direct order from Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).

A fresh glimpse at Daddy, the highly anticipated sci-fi dark comedy, has dropped—and it's already turning heads.
From Firehouse 51 to a Dystopian Nightmare—Sardarov’s Bold New Role
Starring Chicago Fire alum Yuriy Sardarov, best known as fan-favorite firefighter Brian “Otis” Zvonecek, the film takes Sardarov far from the familiar chaos of Firehouse 51 and into an unsettling dystopian retreat where paranoia reigns supreme. In a newly released clip from Binge, Sardarov’s character, Sebastian, showcases a raw, commanding presence as tensions boil over among the group of would-be fathers stranded in the remote California wilderness. Left without instructions in their government-mandated retreat, the men spiral into confusion, self-doubt, and intense competition to prove their worthiness as potential parents. The new sci-fi dark comedy ‘Daddy’ is set in a dystopian world where the government decides who can become a father. Directed by Neal Kelley and Jono Sherman, the film stars Yuriy Sardarov, Jacqueline Toboni, Pomme Koch, and Britt Baron. Sardarov, known from ‘Chicago Fire,’ plays Sebastian, a character who struggles to maintain control amid the chaos, a role he found fascinating due to its mystery and paranoia.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that every good network drama must kill off at least one fan-favorite character in an extremely bleak, cry-until-you're-dehydrated way at least once every few seasons. When it comes to "Chicago Fire," one of the biggest major character deaths came in the very first moments of season 8, which claimed the life of Brian "Otis" Zvonecek.
Judging by the heaps of online comments memorializing Otis like he's a real person, the character who was with Truck 81 since the show's pilot is perhaps the most beloved "Chicago Fire" character ever. The child of Russian immigrants was funny and sometimes underestimated, and he worked his way up to a much-coveted engineer position over time. He also had deep ties to plenty of other key characters, so when the powers that be decided "Chicago Fire" needed to up the ante with real, deadly stakes, Otis ended up biting the dust.

Six episodes remain in Chicago Fire's 13th Season, rounding out a 15-part arc airing on NBC between September 2024 and February 2025. Of course, with the NFL's 59th Superbowl slated for February 9, 2025, some releases could shift to accommodate the big game. As such, it's worth keeping track of when, how, and where to catch the final six chapters of the long-running medical procedural.
When Chicago Fire returns for Season 13, Episode 10, "Chaos Theory," much of the drama will focus on a community center emergency that requires a response from the Chicago Fire Department team. Elsewhere, Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) may expose a corrupt team member, an internal department struggle that will surely set up the drama in the remaining five episodes. Without further ado, Chicago Fire's Season 13 release schedule lies ahead.

Scott Eastwood had a chance to serve as one of the stars of today's most popular TV shows from the very start. However, his run only spanned a single episode, and many fans of the series may have even forgotten that he was ever a part of it.
In an interview with Brittany Frederick of Cbr to promote his new movie, Alarum, Eastwood reflected on his brief time spent in the One Chicago franchise. After appearing in a guest role in Chicago Fire for the backdoor pilot of Chicago Pd, Eastwood reprised his role as Officer Jim Barnes in the first episode of the latter. He has been absent in the franchise ever since, and, as the actor has now shared, this was because he didn't want to relocate to Chicago and commit several years of his life to that one TV show.

Joe Cruz has been through a lot in the last few episodes of Chicago Fire. The character has had his past dug up and used against him as blackmail. It's a payoff to a season 1 story arc we did not see coming, and it's currently putting his career at risk.
It's a bad time to be Cruz, but it's a good time to be Joe Minoso, the actor who plays him. Minoso told Screen Rant that he was recently paid a visit by a former cast member on the set, and remains close friends with said cast member. Who, you might ask? None other than Otis himself, Yuri Sardarov.

The following contains major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 9, "A Favor," which debuted Wednesday, Jan. 8 on NBC.
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 9, "A Favor" is pretty low-key by the standards of the NBC show. It has an action-packed storyline featuring Joe Cruz, but compared to the utter chaos that's happened in other Chicago Fire episodes -- particularly premieres, midseason premieres and finales -- it's almost calm. In some ways that works really well, and in other ways, the audience might be a little restless.
"A Favor" primarily centers on Cruz, who has to deal with Junior's threat to end his career over a tragic event in the show's early years. The other storyline concerns Mouch's first shift as a lieutenant, and the way he tries to turn up for a man no one else seems to remember. Almost all the remaining characters have little to do, but that's less noticeable...

Chicago Fire has dished out multiple Christmas episodes over the last decade plus. We already singled out the episode "Winterfest" as a candidate to watch with your family during the holiday season. We wanted to do something a little different this year, though, which is highlight the first Chicago Fire Christmas episode.
The episode in question is called "Merry Christmas, Etc." and it aired halfway through season 1. The episode is fun to watch as a time capsule, as beloved characters like Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) and Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) are long gone. "Merry Christmas, Etc." also provides glimpses of those who have passed, like Otis (Yuri Sardarov) and Leslie Shay (Lauren German).

NBC is bringing together the Voltron of public service shows on their One Chicago franchise - Med, Fire, and P.D. - for a TV crossover event early next year. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is the closest thing Chicago Fire has to a main character. His presence hasn't been as consistent in recent years, but his presence is still very much felt whenever the iconic One Chicago firefighter is onscreen.
Kelly positioned himself as a loner early on in the show, but the longer Chicago Fire has worn on, the more we've learned about his family. It could be argued that we know more about his family than any other character on the show, in fact. We're still meeting new members of his family, so we felt it would be beneficial to run through his family tree and give fans a refresher of who is who.

Let's start with Benny Severide (Treat Williams). Kelly's father was a Chicago firefighter who served alongside veterans like Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Henry Mills. He was fearless in the field,...

Otis' death was a devastating blow to all of us. The firefighter perished in the season 8 premiere, and frankly, Chicago Fire has never been the same. It's still been great, but the notion that any character could die at any time was solidified.
Otis being dead means that fans have not gotten see him since season 8, of course. It doesn't take much of an explanation as to why. But Yuri Sardarov, the actor who plays Otis, has not given up hope of a Chicago Fire comeback.

One Chicago has dished out plenty of shocking deaths over the years. Fans are still talking about the harrowing and unpredictable ways in which beloved characters like Otis (Yuri Sardarov) and Al Olinsky (Elias Koteas) perished. The death toll rose in 2024.
While there have been some stellar episodes littered through all three One Chicago shows in the calendar year, and some notable cast exits, there's one character death that stands apart from the rest. It happened during the first episode of Chicago Pd's season 12.

Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) was the unexpected star of Chicago Fire's fall finale. The character took center stage with a subplot that involved his younger brother and the relative of a gang member he failed to save during season 1.
It's been a long time since fans have gotten to see Joe Cruz's brother, Leon (Jeff Lima). He was a consistent presence throughout season 1, but he has only made sporadic appearances since then. He dropped by for single episode cameos in seasons 7 and 8, and his return in the season 13 fall finale marks his first appearance since the birth of Cruz's son.

One prominent One Chicago cast member has addressed the possibility of returning to play a dead character once more. The franchise is an interconnected universe of NBC shows following various public services in The Windy City, all of which were either created, co-created, or executive produced by Dick Wolf, who is also behind the Law & Order franchise. The universe kicked off with Chicago Fire, which premiered in 2012 and is now in the middle of airing season 13. Various spinoffs were later introduced as backdoor pilots in other shows within the universe.
In addition to Chicago Fire, the roster of One Chicago shows now includes Chicago P.D., which launched in 2014 and is currently airing season 12. It was followed to the small screen by 2015's Chicago Med, which is currently airing season 10. The only show in the franchise that is not still on the air is Chicago Justice, which premiered in 2017 and only ran for one season.

Exciting news has been revealed for One Chicago fans. A major crossover event is planned to soon air on NBC, bringing together all three One Chicago shows for the first time since before the pandemic.
Per TVLine, NBC is planning a one-night crossover event for Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. The storyline will reportedly focus on a "massive explosion in an office building that upends the entire city (above and below ground)." The last time all three shows were brought together was in Oct. 2019, several months before the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic and last year's Hollywood strikes both contributed to the delay in finally getting another One Chicago crossover event put together for NBC.

Viewers were forced to say goodbye to many characters in Chicago Fire season 12, including Chief Wallace Boden, who Eamonn Walker has played since season 1. The NBC procedural drama, created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, has been a success for the network since its premiere in October 2012. It revolves around the personal and work lives of the firefighters and paramedics of Firehouse 51, including Boden. Over the course of its 13-season run, Chicago Fire has lost many actors who portrayed some of the show's most beloved characters, and after season 12, Walker was added to that list.
From Lauren German as Leslie Shay in season 3 to Yuri Sardarov as Brian "Otis" Zvonecek in season 8, numerous Chicago Fire actors have exited their roles, whether their character died, moved out of Chicago, or a different factor that resulted in them leaving Firehouse 51. When Chicago Fire debuts its 13th season on NBC on September 25, 2024, fans will meet a new chief leading Firehouse 51 in a sudden dramatic cast overhaul bound to bear serious narrative consequences. When the show left off in Season 12, all eyes turned to longtime Battalion Chief Wallace Boden's (Eammon Walker) departure and his potential replacement, with most believing senior firefighter Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) would assume the mantle.
According to Deadline, Firehouse 51 will appoint a new Battalion Fire Chief during the Season 13 premiere, although the move could be temporary and is subject to change later in the season. Regardless, the abrupt cast shakeup promises to steer the long-running TV procedural into an exciting new direction. For those planning on tuning in to the Season 13 premiere, it's time to meet who Kelly, Joe, Randall, Capp, Matt, Sylvie, and others will take professional cues from moving forward.

For the first seven seasons of the NBC drama Chicago Fire, Yuri Sardarov played fan-favorite firefighter Brian "Otis" Zvonecek. But in the Season 8 premiere "Sacred Ground," Otis died from injuries sustained while fighting a fire at a mattress factory. Years later, fans continue to mourn his loss.
Created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, Chicago Fire premiered in 2012. It follows the lives of firefighters at the fictional Firehouse 51, and Sardarov's character was one of the original first responders. It was a source of comedic relief in every season of Chicago Fire, including a subplot where he dated the half-sister of Taylor Kinney's character Kelly Severide. Otis' death shook up the show and reminded viewers that, despite many of the main cast continually emerging alive after cliffhangers, the perils facing the firefighters were deadly.

Many characters in Chicago Fire were given abrupt exits, leaving fans disappointed in the lack of closure for their favorite figures. Narratives for departures often lacked emotional depth, with actors like Monica Raymund and Yuri Sardarov deserving more impactful farewells. Chicago Fire season 12 may address past shortcomings, providing satisfying wrap-ups for characters and storylines previously left hanging.
Chicago Fire lost several important figures over the years, but some actors deserved better exits for their characters than they received. Part of the One Chicago universe, the Chicago Fire season 11 finale was dramatic and saw huge development in some of the shows most anticipated storylines. One notable absence from the episode, however, was Chicago Fires Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), who departed earlier in the season. However, theories about the overall story and Severides return in Chicago Fire season 12 have quickly culminated.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to “Daddy,” a sci-fi film that will be released in 2024.
The news comes as Anchor Bay is being relaunched after Umbrelic Entertainment chiefs Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz bought the company’s trademark. Anchor Bay was included in Starz’s 2016 sale to Lionsgate. Under Zambeck and Katz, Anchor Bay is looking to release genre films and cult favorites.
In the case of “Daddy,” the movie was co-written and co-directed by Neal Kelley and Jono Sherman in their feature debut. It stars Yuriy Sardarov (“Chicago Fire”), Jacqueline Toboni (“The L Word: Generation Q”), Pomme Koch (“WeCrashed“) and Britt Baron (“Glow”).
The film is set in a dystopian society where the state has the power to determine who can and cannot father children. Four men attend a government-mandated retreat in the remote mountains of California. When they arrive, there’s no guide or instructions waiting for them.

Chicago Fire star David Eigenberg addresses the season 11 finale's potential death. One of Treat Williams' most memorable roles was that of Benny Severide in Chicago Fire. The iconic actor joined NBC's One Chicago franchise in 2013 as Benny, the difficult father of currently absent firefighter Kelly Severide. Benny only appeared in 16 episodes between Season 1 and Season 7, but his presence in Chicago Fire was large despite his limited screen time. And the reason his character had that impact was due to Williams' performance.
Because Benny and Severide had a strained relationship, Benny's appearances carried a significant amount of emotional weight. Benny always had a strong effect on Kelly -- and therefore a strong effect on the narrative at large. Though the Severides' father-son relationship evolved over the course of the show, their dynamic never ceased to be compelling, from Williams' first appearance to his last.
