Giannini Unveiled as Judge Gladwell in Italy’s “Bunny-Man”
Image
A new photograph from the Rome set of “Bunny-Man” reveals Oscar nominee Giancarlo Giannini cloaked in judicial robes as the corrupt Judge Gladwell, supplying the first official look at Italy’s latest high-profile genre project.

The thriller, produced and fronted by Andrea Iervolino, assembles Tatiana Luter, James Franco, Bella Thorne, Mike Tyson, Michele Morrone, Franco Nero and Ana Golja around Giannini.

According to production notes, the story follows a multimillionaire rap star who hides behind a rabbit mask to avenge the online-circulated assault that led his sister to take her own life, blending vigilante action with giallo-style psychology.

Cameras rolled in late July at Cinecittà before moving to Turin streets, with trade listings marking 28 February 2025 as the final day of principal photography. While press releases omit a director, festival databases point to Giorgio Bruno, and IMDbPro credits Daniel H. Friedman, Iervolino and Alessandra Starr Ward with the script.

Andrea Iervolino Announces He Is Developing Bruce McLaren Biopic
Image
Exclusive: Prolific Italian producer Andrea Iervolino has set his sights on another film about the world of motor racing, with the announcement that he is developing a biopic about motor sports legend Bruce McLaren.

The iconic New Zealand driver and engineer died tragically young but left a legacy in Formula 1 history, with the McLaren Racing team he founded and left in his wake.

The film will tell the story of a man who, from a very young age, had to overcome significant physical and personal challenges.

At the age of nine, McLaren was diagnosed with Perthes disease, a rare childhood bone disorder that affected his left hip and forced him to spend more than two years in hospital with his leg immobilized in a traction device. Rather than stopping him in his tracks, this challenge ignited a passion for mechanics and racing cars, fueled in part by his father,...

Al Pacino Granted Rare Vatican Audience With Pope Leo Xiv
Al Pacino
Al Pacino became the first movie star granted a private audience with Pope Leo Xiv on Monday, arriving at the Apostolic Palace with producer Andrea Iervolino and colleagues from the biographical drama “Maserati: The Brothers.”

The 84-year-old actor presented the pope with a scale model of the 1939 Maserati 8Ctf and spoke briefly about the film’s plan to shoot scenes in Vatican City later in the week.

Pacino portrays Vincenzo Vaccaro, an early financial backer of the racing dynasty, in the English-language feature directed by Oscar winner Robert Moresco. Cameras have been rolling since late May in Emilia-Romagna, and North American rights were recently picked up by Magenta Light Studios, positioning the picture for a wide 2026 release.

Tom Cruise on the Palais red carpet

Workers rights and ‘The Final Reckoning’: Cannes 2025 opened this week in almost identical fashion to last year’s edition: With a tepidly reviewed French movie and staff protests. Amélie Bonnin’s Leave One Day was the movie this year, and Cannes staffers represented by the unofficial union Sous Les Écrans La Dèche were present at the opening night gala with placards and posters. The staffers were once again protesting to raise awareness about what they have described as their unfair working conditions. They’re hoping to finally be included in France’s unique scheme for seasonal cultural workers, which grants benefits like unemployment pay. Last-minute talks between Cannes and the French government broke down,...

Cannes: What Ever Happened to Tariffs?
Image
International film tariffs are just sooo last week.

Since Donald Trump announced plans, via a caps-lock post on May 4, to impose a 100 percent levy on “foreign-made” movies, it’s been all the film industry has been able to talk about. The (unprecedented) idea of a movie tariff system threatened to disrupt, maybe destroy, the global system of financing, producing and distributing films.

Trump’s tariffs might still be on the table — it’s hard to know with the easily distracted Potus — but within the industry, the discussion has already moved on.

In a letter to the president on Monday, May 12, Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone, two of Trump’s “special ambassadors” to the entertainment industry, along with a lengthy list of industry players including the Motion Picture Association, producers’ groups and top industry labor guilds, called for Washington to expand and extend tax incentives to help bring film and TV production back to the U.

Mel Gibson at an event for Edge of Darkness (2010)
Mel Gibson and Andrea Iervolino Propose U.S.–Italy Film Co-Production Agreement
Mel Gibson at an event for Edge of Darkness (2010)
Actor Mel Gibson and Italian producer Andrea Iervolino have announced a proposal for a U.S.–Italy film co-production agreement, which they describe as a model that could shape future partnerships between the United States and other countries. The proposal is intended to promote joint film production, investment, and cultural exchange.

The agreement, still in its preliminary stage, outlines two key proposals: first, that Italian producers receive incentives to make films in the United States involving American actors and crews; second, that the Italian government launch support programs for projects designed to reinforce cultural connections between Italy and the United States.

The plan has been agreed in principle by Gibson and Iervolino, following a recent meeting. According to sources familiar with the initiative, the two are coordinating their efforts with the intention of formalizing the agreement at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. They aim to involve senior representatives from both national governments and film industries.

Italian Producer Andrea Iervolino Says He’s Working With Trump ‘Special Ambassador’ Mel Gibson on U.S.-Italy Co-Production Treaty Amid Tariff Threats
Image
Italian producer Andrea Iervolino (“Modì”) has announced a proposal for a U.S.–Italy co-production treaty that he says was agreed to by Mel Gibson, who is one of U.S. President Donald Trump’s “special ambassadors” to Hollywood.

The agreement, details of which are sketchy, would “allow Italian producers to develop and co-produce international films between Italy and the United States, thus opening new markets; it will offer the U.S.A. the opportunity to attract new foreign investments, supporting the goals of the Trump agenda,” Iervolino said in a statement.

Iervolino called the proposal a “pilot project” for the development of similar treaties between the U.S. and all other countries around the world.

“The world must recognize that the American entertainment industry has always been the leading one globally: it remains the main point of reference, capable of setting the rules of the industry worldwide. Meanwhile, many countries have...

Italian Producer Andrea Iervolino, “Hollywood Envoy” Mel Gibson Unveil Italy-u.S. Film Treaty Proposal
Image
Italian producer Andrea Iervolino (Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness) unveiled a proposal for a U.S.–Italy co-production treaty on Tuesday that they said was agreed with Mel Gibson, President Trump‘s “special ambassador” to Hollywood, and is designed to “serve as a ‘pilot project’ for the development of similar treaties between the USA and all other countries around the world.”

The proposed agreement calls for Italian producers to be “incentivized to make Italian films in the USA, involving American stars and therefore investing in the U.S.,” according to a statement. It also suggests that the Italian government launch “support programs for productions that strengthen cultural ties between Italy and the United States.”

Gibson and Iervolino couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

A statement from Iervolino, mentioned “estimates” that a global adoption of this model could generate up to $10 billion annually in direct investments in the U.

Mel Gibson, Trump “Special Ambassador”, & Italian Producer Andrea Iervolino Propose U.S.-Italy Co-Production Treaty
Image
Recently appointed “special ambassador” to Hollywood Mel Gibson and Italian producer Andrea Iervolino (Ferrari) are proposing a co-production agreement between Italy and the US, which they hope could serve as a “pilot project” for the development of similar treaties between the US and other countries around the world.

The filmmakers are proposing that:

•Italian producers are incentivized to make Italian films in the USA, involving American stars and therefore investing in the U.S.;

Tariff Shocker

Trump card: “Tariff” is a word that has entered the daily lexicon over the past few weeks, but the industry was still blindsided when Donald Trump set out a plan (via Truth Social) to impose 100% tariffs on film imports Sunday. It’s been quite the rollercoaster since and the sector is spooked. “It’s insane,” was the simple response leading our international reax piece, which is well worth a peruse. What started as a ranty proposal made on social media that appeared to reflect Trump’s hatred for California governor Gavin Newsom as much as his desire to return production to America, became a more codified plan when Deadline revealed Trump and his Hollywood compadre...

A new Donald Trump biopic is in the works
Donald Trump
Donald Trump is getting the biopic treatment again as Italian producer Andrea Iervolino looks to get the project off the ground.

Last year’s The Apprentice – a great film, if you ask me – was surrounded by controversy. Director Ali Abbasi, armed with the acting abilities of Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan, brought the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, to the big screen in a biopic that didn’t exactly flatter the businessman-turned-politician. In our review, we called it “an engrossing character study of a man who took the opportunity to become the worst possible version of himself.”

Trump was notoriously against the film and even tried to stop it from being released, eventually losing that fight. Deadline now reports that a new biopic of Trump is in the works, with Ferrari producer Andrea Iervolino attached to it. The new movie reportedly has a pretty high price tag...

Big-Budget Trump Biopic In The Works From ‘Ferrari’ Producer Andrea Iervolino — Cannes Market
Image
Exclusive: Hated. Adored. Never ignored. An ambitious, big-budget movie biopic about Donald Trump is in the works from Ferrari and To The Bone producer Andrea Iervolino.

Prolific Italian producer Iervolino will be at the Cannes market talking to potential partners with an aim to shoot at the end of 2025 in the U.S. Iervolino is aiming to corral a huge budget for the project with a $100M tag being floated. Cast has yet to be set.

We understand the film will be “kinder” to Potus than The Apprentice, the Oscar-nominated biopic starring Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan. Trump’s team famously took umbrage at that movie and tried to have it blocked from release around this time a year ago.

The Andrea Iervolino Company’s description of the project is “a major new biographical film centered on the life and legacy of Donald J. Trump — real estate mogul, television icon,...

Italian producer Andrea Iervolino has boarded “Captivated,” a mob thriller starring Al Pacino and Katie Holmes that seeks to provide a different take on the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III than Ridley Scott’s “All the Money in the World.” The long-gestating film is set to start shooting in Rome later this month.

“Captivated,” directed by Dito Montiel, tells the story of the 1973 kidnapping of Getty III and the unexpected bond between Calabrian mafia boss Saro Mammoliti (to be played by Pacino in his older version) and Gail Getty, mother of Getty III, to be played by Holmes.

They are “two souls from completely different worlds, drawn together by a tragedy that will forever change their lives,” says the provided synopsis. “Amid psychological tension and subtle desire, theirs is a seductive game of chess that adds a crucial layer to the mystery of the Getty kidnapping.”

Image
The city of Verona is about to be filled with pop music this summer with the release of Juliet & Romeo, and yes, you read those names in the right order. A new spin on William Shakespeare's legendary tale of love and tragedy is coming soon from director Timothy Scott Bogart, taking direct inspiration from the same 1301 tale that spurred the Bard to craft the most famous lovers in all of fiction. It'll see Juliet and her Romeo, played by Black Mirror's Clara Rugaard and The Last Supper's Jamie Ward, respectively, not just defying the long-standing feud between the Montagues and the Capulets but the very conventions of Shakespeare's timeless story. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies, we can share the official trailer for the musical film along with a conversation with the director, teasing the star-crossed romance ahead.

The Auto Biographer: Meet the Man Behind the Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati Movies
Image
First there was Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, the 2022 film starring Frank Grillo and written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Robert Moresco (Crash). Then came the higher-octane Ferrari, the 2023 biopic directed by Michael Mann, with Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley. Now, in Rome’s famed Cinecittà studios, another legendary Italian supercar manufacturer is being immortalized in Moresco’s Maserati: The Brothers, with Italian actor Michele Morrone playing one of the three siblings who founded the trident brand in 1914. (Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba also star.)

The producer behind all three films, 37-year-old Italian Canadian Andrea Iervolino, is bringing these automotive origin stories to the screen at a time when Hollywood is going motor mad. Witness the forthcoming F1 starring Brad Pitt, or the recently announced Austin Butler and Tom Holland movie American Speed, or the fresh rumors that Tom Cruise plans to reboot his 1990 NASCAR movie Days of Thunder.
