Batul Mukhtiar won the Golden Elephant trophy for Best Live Action Director for Kaphal in the Competition International Live Action section at the International Children’s Film Festival of India.

Tamaash or The Puppet by Satyanshu Singh and Devanshu Singh won the Golden Elephant trophy for Best Short, Children’s Jury. The film was competing in the International Shorts section.

Shilpa Ranade’s Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya was awarded the Jury Prize for Best Artwork and Arnab Chaudhuri’s Arjun won a Golden Elephant trophy for Best Animation Feature, Children’s Jury. Both films were competing in the International Animation competition section.

The 18th edition of the festival was held in Hyderabad from November 14 – 20, 2013.

Tell us about your project. What language will it be in?

Circle of Fire is the follow up to Arjun the Warrior Prince, an animated adventure based on The Mahabharata. It revolves the great tragic hero Abhimanyu, a son trying to live up to the image of his father, Arjun, who tries to protect his son from the horrors of war.

Abhimanyu lived most of his childhood away from his father, who was in exile after his family lost everything to the Kauravas. Their reunion takes place after the 13 years, when the Pandavas return and prepare for war. Arjun is in wonder of the boy- a young and brash image of himself. The two grow close in the days...

The 18th International Children’s Film Festival of India has announced the competition lineup for 2013. Some of the well-known Indian films in competition are Nagraj Manjule’s Fandry [Read interview], Shilpa Ranade’s Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya [Read interview] and Batul Mukhtiar’s Kaphal.

Organized by the Children’s Film Society of India, the biennial festival also known as The Golden Elephant will be held from November 14-20, 2013 in Hyderabad.

Nfdc unveils Film Bazaar projects
Veteran Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal and Qissa director Anup Singh are among the filmmakers who have had projects selected for the Co-production Market at this year’s Film Bazaar in Goa, India.Scroll down for full list of projects

Benegal has been making award-winning films since the 1970s – most recently satires Welcome To Sajjanpur and Well Done Abba. Singh’s Qissa: The Tale Of A Lonely Ghost is currently having a successful run on the festival circuit.

International projects at Film Bazaar include Amok, from Chilean director Valeria Sarmiento and produced by the UK’s Anna Holburn; UK filmmaker Robert Mullan’s Son Of India; Malabar Court, directed by Niara Modi and produced by Canada’s Paul Scherzer; and Polish director Piotr Trzaskalski’s Incredible.

The line-up also include one project in partnership with the Netherlands’ Boost programme, Bikas Mishra’s Wild Fire, and one project with Ifp, Varenya directed by Shripriya Mahesh.

5 Indian films to screen at Fribourg International Film Festival 2013

Stanley Ka Dabba, Arjun, Mumbai Cha Raja, One More and Kalpana will be screened at the 27th edition of Fribourg International Film Festival (Fiff), to be held from March 16-23, 2013 in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Stanley Ka Dabba, Arjun and Mumbai Cha Raja will screen under the FIFFamily In India section. The newly-introduced FIFFamily is a mini festival under Fiff for the attending parents and children. The section will screen three selected films from the same country.

One More will screen under the Genre Cinema: Escape to Victory! section and Kalpana will screen in the Hommage à World Cinema Foundation section.

The festival that will play host to 90 feature and 20 short films from 45 countries, will open with Karzan Kader’s Bekas and close with Wong Kar-wai’s The Grandmaster.
