Abby Ryder Fortson To Star In John Fortson’s ‘Rated’ Dramedy Film

Exclusive: Abby Ryder Fortson, who starred as Margaret in 2023’s Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret, and as a young Cassie in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), will star in the independently financed feature dramedy, Rated, directed by John Fortson.

Based on his award-winning short film of the same name, Rated the short, quickly captivated the festival circuit, earning rave reviews and 23 awards from over 60 festivals worldwide including Palm Springs Shortfest, Savannah International, Short Shorts Japan, Asthetica UK, Cleveland International, and Rhode Island International.

Rated also stars Christie Lynn Smith, who co-wrote the script with Fortson, Dale Dickey, Spencer Garrett and Darryl Cox.

Last month, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers, and since we have now in spooky season of October, with some of us celebrating Halloween all month long, we’ve been leaning into the horror and thriller genres this week.

The movies that have been released on JoBlo TV over the last week are the home invasion thriller Safe House 1618, the human prey horror film American Hunt, the bizarre supernatural horror film It Hatched, the sci-fi movie No Tomorrow, the supernatural slasher Curse of the Scarecrow, and the supernatural horror film Ouija Craft.

‘Totally Killer’ Fantastic Fest Review – Blumhouse’s Time Travel Slasher is Totally Charming

When the trailer for Totally Killer was released a few weeks ago, there was a bit of an uproar on social media claiming that the film was ripping off The Final Girls (review). While there are undoubtedly similarities between the two films, Nahnatchka Khan‘s horror comedy has far more in common with something like Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day films (specifically Happy Death Day 2U) than that 2015 film, aiming for a more absurdist, comedy-forward take on the “time travel slasher” sub-genre that apparently exists now. It’s also an incredibly charming little film that wears its influences on its sleeves and has so much fun with them in the hopes that you will too.
