Vince Vaughn’s Brutal Action Thriller With 90% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Leaving Netflix Soon
Image
Vince Vaughn is known primarily as a comedic actor. Most recently, these humourous tendencies were exhibited in his performance in the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey. Based on the book of the same name by Carl Hiaasen, the story saw Vaughn play a bumbling cop who is passionate about solving a high-profile case regarding a suspicious death. Bad Monkey was renewed for season 2, giving Vaughn another chance to play the role of the wisecracking, ungraceful but lovable Andrew Yancy.

In addition to Bad Monkey, Vaughn's comedy roles on screen have included parts in Dodgeball and Wedding Crashers. Comedy is not all Vaughn is capable of, however. While he is mostly known for the laugh-inducing genre, the actor has also been in several more dramatic roles. One such part was playing Norman Bates in Gus Van Sant's 1998 shot-for-shot remake of Psycho. While notoriously panned, this film showed off what Vaughn...

Journey To Bethlehem Interview: Antonio Banderas On Musical Movie & Its Resonating Themes
Image
Antonio Banderas was drawn to Journey to Bethlehem for its humorous take on the classic biblical story of Mary and Joseph, offering a fresh and charming perspective. Banderas' musical movie debut allowed him to showcase his theatrical abilities, which he had previously demonstrated on stage, and he had a lot of fun recording the songs for the film. The movie emphasizes the theme of love and delivers a simple and heartfelt message that resonates with Banderas, who believes in non-violent and uncomplicated expressions of faith.

After bringing his genre talents to the stage, Antonio Banderas is making his musical movie debut in Journey to Bethlehem. The dramedy acts as a retelling of the story of Mary and Joseph, including their arranged marriage, the strain of learning of being the virgin mother to Jesus Christ, and the jealous king who feels his reign is being threatened.

‘Journey to Bethlehem’ Review: The Music Producers Behind ‘Glee’ Put Snappy Spin on Christmas Tale
Image
Christmas comes early this year, as “Journey to Bethlehem” puts words (and music) in the mouths of all who bore witness to Jesus’ birth. Some of those tunes — like “Silent Night” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” — will sound familiar enough, though most of the songs — like most of the script — represents a fresh interpretation of believers’ original miracle, courtesy of Adam Anders, making a competent, if undistinguished directorial debut with the least edgy retelling of the nativity story around (which is essentially what the faith-based audience has been asking for).

One half of the duo behind the music for “Glee,” Swedish-born Anders comes to the project after more than two decades of penning and producing songs for boy bands and Disney Channel artists, including the Backstreet Boys (“More Than This”), Nick Lachey and the Jonas Brothers. He was instrumental in the soundtracks of big-screen musicals “Rock of Ages” and “The Prom,...

Lincoln Rhyme and Perfect Harmony Canceled at NBC
Bradley Whitford and Anna Camp in Perfect Harmony (2019)
NBC has announced the fate of two bubble shows, and it's not good news.

The Peacock network has canceled Lincoln Rhyme and Perfect Harmony after their freshman runs.

Lincoln Rhyme starred Grimm's Russell Hornsby as the titular criminal profiler, who became paralyzed after a run-in with a serial murderer known as The Bone Collector years before the series started.

When The Bone Collector became active again, Lincoln was called back into service, with his police partner Amelia (played by The Vampire Diaries' Arielle Kebbel) playing his right hand in the quest to find and take down the killer.

Across its 10-episode run, Lincoln Rhyme averaged a 0.5 demo rating and 3.7 million total viewers. These were decent numbers for Friday, so the series was thought to be in the running for a renewal.

Unfortunately, the delayed ratings were not as strong as NBC had hoped, and that is likely to blame for...

‘Perfect Harmony’ & ‘Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt For The Bone Collector’ Canceled At NBC
Image
Perfect Harmony and Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector will not be returning to NBC.

The broadcaster has canceled both the freshman comedy and freshman drama series.

Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, which launched in January, ran for 10 episodes and is based on Jeffrey Deaver’s Bone Collector book series. It starred Russell Hornsby as Lincoln Rhyme, a brilliant but hardheaded forensic criminologist who suffers near-fatal injuries while on the job, leaving him a tetraplegic. He nevertheless continues his work remotely, working with others to solve cases. It also stars Arielle Kebbel, Roslyn Ruff, Ramses Jimenez, Brooke Lyons, Tate Ellington, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney Grosbeck and Michael Imperioli.

Written by VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli, the pair exec produce with Keshet’s Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan. Sony Pictures TV and Universal TV produce in association with Keshet Studios.

‘Perfect Harmony’ and ‘Lincoln Rhyme’ Canceled by NBC After 1 Season
Bradley Whitford
The Bradley Whitford comedy “Perfect Harmony” and Russell Hornsby-led drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” have been canceled at NBC after one season apiece, an individual familiar with the situation tells TheWrap.

“Perfect Harmony” premiered last fall and averaged a 0.6 rating among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 2.9 million total viewers, according to the “most current” data from Nielsen, which includes a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available. “Lincoln Rhyme” debuted in January and averaged a 0.8 in the key demo and 5.6 million viewers.

Starring Whitford and Anna Camp, “Perfect Harmony” followed former Princeton music professor Arthur Cochran (Whitford), who unexpectedly stumbles into choir practice at a small-town church and finds a group of singers “that are out of tune in more ways than one,” per its official description. “Despite the ultimate clash of sensibilities, Arthur and his newfound cohorts may just be the perfect mix...

‘Perfect Harmony,’ ‘Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector’ Canceled at NBC
Image
The freshman comedy “Perfect Harmony” and the freshman drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” have both been canceled at NBC, Variety has learned from sources.

“Perfect Harmony” wrapped its one and only season in January, while “Lincoln Rhyme” ended in March.

NBC declined to comment.

The cancellations come as networks and studios are grappling with how to proceed with the fall season in the wake of the production shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic. NBC had already renewed a number of its current shows prior to the shutdown, including “This Is Us,” “New Amsterdam,” all three “Chicago” shows, and “Law & Order: Svu.”

NBC and ABC have not yet released their fall schedules, while Fox, The CW, and CBS have. The CW and Fox are relying heavily on acquired programming and shows held from this season. CBS thus far is the only broadcaster to commit to airing its normal fall lineup.

NBC's Perfect Harmony: Grade It!
Bradley Whitford
Like the song engraved on the headstone of Bradley Whitford‘s character’s wife, the new NBC comedy Perfect Harmony is a “fun little ditty about a man who loses his only family and has no reason to live.”

That man, former Princeton University music professor Arthur Cochran (Whitford), is literally moments away from suicide in Thursday’s series premiere when he’s mercifully distracted by the out-of-tune squawking of a nearby church choir, led by the relentlessly chipper Ginny (Anna Camp). Stumbling into the church in a drunken stupor, Arthur takes a moment to mock each individual singer before passing out and wetting himself.

TV Review: ‘Perfect Harmony’ Starring Bradley Whitford
Bradley Whitford and Anna Camp in Perfect Harmony (2019)
With fewer than 25 minutes to introduce a compelling story and cast of characters, the makers of broadcast-network comedy pilots have one of the hardest jobs in television. It’s no wonder, then, that so many turn to familiar shortcuts and archetypes in order to get through all the necessary exposition as quickly as possible. The trick is finding ways to intrigue beyond the basics and show some hint of unique personality, besides. “Perfect Harmony,” NBC’s new comedy about a scrappy church choir entering the competitive circuit, acquits itself pretty well by the end of its first episode — especially because it somehow speeds through enough plot to fuel an entire season of “Glee” (the most obvious reference point for “Perfect Harmony”).

Lesley Wake Webster’s script wastes no time introducing us to Arthur (executive producer Bradley Whitford), a cantankerous former choral director who left Princeton for his Kentucky wife, who...

‘Perfect Harmony’: Church Choir Comedy Producers On Music’s Role In Creating Family & Friendship – TCA
Perfect Harmony is NBC’s new musical comedy series about a rural church choir that gets the director it never thought it needed when a salty, Ivy League music professor (played by Bradley Whitford) stumbles through their door.

Show creator and executive producer Lesley Wake Webster spoke on the personal inspiration behind the series during NBC’s presentation at the TCA press tour.

“I grew up singing in church choirs, going to church. My grandfather, who Bradley’s character was modeled on, was a choir director by trade… at the end of his life, he was living in rural Kentucky, my grandmother had passed away, and he got to a very dark place,” Webster shared.

“The thing that brought him back to life and gave him meaning was directing this little choir. He was standing in a circle with people singing who had dramatically different beliefs and had been raised...

NBC Picks Up Comedies ‘Perfect Harmony’ & ‘Indebted’, Drama ‘Lincoln’ To Series
NBC has wrapped up its new series orders, picking up single-camera choir comedy Perfect Harmony, starring and executive produced by Bradley Whitford, from 20th Century Fox TV; multi-camera multi-generational family comedy Indebted (fka Uninsured), co-starring Fran Drescher, from Sony TV; and drama Lincoln, headlined by Russell Hornsby, also from Sony TV. Lincoln, based on the Bone Collector novel, will be a co-production with Universal TV.

The late pickup for Perfect Harmony, Indebted and Lincoln does not necessarily reflect their standings in the NBC pilots pecking order as all had enjoyed internal support. But the projects comes from outside studios, leading to the inevitable last-minute tussle with the network over digital rights (comedies) and ownership/distribution (dramas).

Both 20th TV and Sony TV already have popular drama series on NBC, This Is Us, which is eying a multi-season renewal, and The Blacklist, already renewed for next season.

NBC Orders ‘Bone Collector’ Adaptation, Bradley Whitford, Adam Pally Comedies
NBC has picked up the drama “Lincoln” and the comedies “Perfect Harmony” and “Indebted” for the 2019-2020 season.

Both “Lincoln” and “Indebted” hail at least in part from Sony Picture Television, with “Lincoln” a co-production between Sony, Universal Television, and Keshet and “Indebted” being solely a Sony production. The news comes after Sony recently scored two new series pick ups at ABC with comedy “United We Fall” and drama “For Life,” while ABC also renewed the Sony-produced “The Goldbergs” and “Schooled.” “United We Fall,” “Schooled,” and “For Life” are co-productions between Sony and ABC Studios.

“Lincoln” is inspired by the best-selling book “The Bone Collector.” It follows former NYPD detective and forensic genius Lincoln Rhyme, who was at the top of his game until a serious accident at the hands of a notorious serial killer forces him out of the field.

Actor Nathan Fillion Just Created A YouTube Fan Film Of Video Game ‘Uncharted’
With barely any warning, a short fan film on the video game Uncharted, starring Nathan Fillion, debuted on YouTube yesterday.

Fillion stars as the game’s central character, Nathan Drake. The film runs for about 15 minutes and also features Stephen Lang as Sully, Micrea Monroe as Elena, Geno Segers as Diego, and Ernie Reyes Jr. as El Tigre. You can watch it below.

Though no trailer nor even a formal announcement preceded the short film’s release, The Next Web pointed out that Fillion teased it subtly on his Instagram over the past week. For instance, he posted a picture of maps and a magnifying glass with the caption “7/16/18” (the short’s release date) several days ago.

Fillion produced the Uncharted fan film with Allan Ungar, Jesse Wheeler, Bruno Marino, and Louis Sallerson, while Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce executive produced. Wheeler and Ungar wrote the film.

Nathan Fillion is Nathan Drake in an Unofficial 'Uncharted' Short Film
"My employer is not a man you want to cross." After all the support from fans, Nathan Fillion went off and decided to star in his own live-action, unofficial short film for Uncharted. Fillion has teamed up with director Allan Ungar, producing and starring in this homemade short film about Nathan Drake trying to escape unharmed. In addition to Fillion, this stars Stephen Lang as Sully, Geno Segers as Diego, Mircea Monroe as Elena, and Ernie Reyes Jr. as El Tigre. This film plays up the humor and cockiness of Drake, along with his skills of sneakiness and hand-to-hand combat. It's considerably entertaining even though it's very simply put together, which is probably why this work so well. It's all about the character. Watch below. Thanks to Twitter for the tip. From YouTube: "Nathan Fillion is Nathan Drake in this live action Uncharted short film." Based on the video...

Lff 2017: ‘Brawl in Cell Block 99′ Review
Review by Matthew Turner

Stars: Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter, Don Johnson, Marc Blucas, Tom Guiry, Udo Kier, Rob Morgan, Geno Segers, Fred Melamed | Written and Directed by S. Craig Zahler

The second feature from Bone Tomahawk writer/director S. Craig Zahler, stylishly executed, ultra-violent prison flick Brawl in Cell Block 99 features a revelatory performance from Vince Vaughn that will make you see the actor in a whole new light.

Vaughn plays Bradley Thomas, a scary-looking recovering alcoholic with a shaved head and a big old crucifix tattooed onto the back of it. When Bradley winds up in prison after a spot of drug-running goes south, he’s visited by a sleazy henchman (Udo Kier) and given an ultimatum: he has to get himself transferred to a nearby maximum security prison and murder an inmate there or horrible things will happen to his kidnapped wife (Jennifer Carpenter) and unborn child.

Vince Vaughn in Teaser Trailer for Brutal Film 'Brawl in Cell Block 99'
"I do things direct, and I have a system." Rlj Entertainment has unveiled a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated brutal crime drama Brawl in Cell Block 99, from filmmaker S. Craig Zahler, director of Bone Tomahawk. This is premiering at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals starting this week, and we expect to hear plenty of good buzz when the first reviews hit. Vince Vaughn takes on the gritty, very serious role as a former boxer-turned-drug runner who lands in a prison battleground after a deal gets deadly. The full cast includes Jennifer Carpenter, Don Johnson, Tom Guiry, Marc Blucas, Udo Kier, Rob Morgan, Geno Segers, and Fred Melamed. This teaser doesn't reveal too much of what happens in prison, but it does introduce us to Vaughn's character. I'm totally down for this - I'll be watching in Venice soon. Bring it. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for...

Banshee season 4: Jonathan Tropper showrunner interview
Gabriel Bergmoser Oct 5, 2016

With Banshee season 4 out on DVD & Blu-ray, creator Jonathan Tropper tells us about its balance of chaotic violence and human pathos...

Contains spoilers for Banshee season 4.

Finishing its four season run early this year, Cinemax’s action extravaganza Banshee staked a claim as a new cult favourite from its first moments, with a combination of wild fight scenes, gripping character drama, enormous plot twists and surprising world building. We spoke with creator Jonathan Tropper to discuss the development of the show, the stunning fights, Tropper’s past and future work and how Banshee always managed to balance extreme violence with real heart and pathos.

Your background as a novelist has been predominantly in fairly down to earth, tender dramas. What inspired the hard left turn into Banshee territory?

As much as the place where I ended up finding my voice as a novelist was in contemporary commercial lit-fiction,...

American Gods: Ricky Whittle cast as Shadow

Neil Gaiman TV adaptation American Gods pushes on at Starz, with Ricky Whittle cast in the lead role of Shadow...

Forthcoming Starz adaptation, American Gods, has cast its Shadow, and unusually (though perhaps not at all unusually considering Us TV's love of giving limeys American accents), it's gone for a Brit.

Ricky Whittle, seen recently in The 100, is the man for the job.

Whittle made his name here in the UK on soap Hollyoaks and football drama The Dream Team, before doing a stint in sequins on Strictly Come Dancing then relocating across the Atlantic for Mistresses and the aforementioned The 100.

He'll be playing Shadow Moon, the American Gods lead, who begins Gaiman's novel as a recently released ex-con with a mysterious past and a penchant for coin tricks. When Shadow's path crosses with that of Wednesday, things get seriously weird for him. And we mean seriously.

Kurt Russell-starring horror western ‘Bone Tomahawk’ gets its first trailer
Fans of Kurt Russell are in for a treat with 2015, as the actor has already starred in one blockbuster hit this year, with two more films on the way.

The trailer for the first of the two, Bone Tomahawk, has now been released. The film marks the directorial debut of cinematographer S. Craig Zahler, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. Russell is joined onscreen by Matthew Fox, Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins, David Arquette, Geno Segers, and Sean Young.

The film’s synopsis is as follows.

Four men set out in the Wild West to rescue a group of captives from cannibalistic cave dwellers.

This marks one of two westerns that Russell will appear in this year following his appearance in Furious 7, the other one being The Hateful Eight, which will mark his reunion with Quentin Tarantino. This film also marks Wilson’s third big screen appearance this year,...

American Gods: Dwayne Johnson "would have been perfect" for Shadow says Neil Gaiman
"If he hadn't become huge" Dwayne Johnson "would have been perfect" as American Gods' Shadow, says Neil Gaiman...

Fantasy casting comes just above 'Writing Statham Fan-Fic' and just below 'Dunking Biscuits In Tea' in the official Den Of Geek list of top ways to spend an afternoon (copies available from all good fictional book shops), so it's cheering to hear that our favourite authors engage in just that hobby.

Speaking at the Edinburgh Book Festival, Neil Gaiman has revealed that his dream casting for the role of American Gods protagonist, Shadow, is Mr Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson.

As reported by The Guardian, Gaiman told the festival crowd, "Shadow is of mixed race and I wanted to find an actor who has that thing going. An actor who turned up after American Gods was written and, if he hadn't have become huge would have been perfect, was Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson...

Banshee, Ep. 3.10: “We All Pay Eventually” continues opening doors
Banshee, Season 3: Episode 10 – “We All Pay Eventually”

Written by Jennifer Ames & Steve Turner

Directed by Loni Peristere

Returns to Cinemax in 2016 for a fourth season

In all of the craziness that is “We All Pay Eventually,” Banshee displays its growth over three gripping years by giving two supporting characters the chance to verbalize the heart of the episode, season and series thus far:

“I am guys like that…I will always be that man…I am doing everything I can to change. And every once in a while, I manage to convince myself that I’m a better person.”

And when Bunker gets so angry, Brock shows him what that really is:

“That isn’t anger that you’re feeling. That’s the shame and guilt…That is what makes you better than them. If you didn’t feel that, that’s when I’d start to worry.”

Banshee season 3 episode 8 review: All The Wisdom I Got Left
Banshee continues its exhilarating, gripping, and well-plotted third season with this week's violent instalment...

This review contains spoilers.

3.8 All The Wisdom I Got Left

One of the things that sets Banshee apart from other pulp/action shows is the strength of its villains. It would be extremely easy to just spit out a succession of increasingly ridiculous pulp figures; in fact, with characters like the obese billionaire from episode three and the fight manager this week, the show does exactly that. But those characters are never front and centre. They’re just fun window dressing for a crazy world. It’s characters like Kai Proctor and Chayton Littlestone that take Banshee above and beyond. They are empathetic and fascinating figures who the audience actually care about; so when they finally meet their fate, it’s more complex and satisfying than the violent death of a simple moustache twirling bad guy.

Banshee, Ep. 3.08: “All the Wisdom I Got Left” – a long-awaited face-off
Banshee, Season 3: Episode 8 – “All the Wisdom I Got Left”

Written by Chris Kelley

Directed by Greg Yaitanes

Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax

While “All the Wisdom I Got Left” continues most of the sub-plots Banshee has set up this season, the success of the episode will ultimately come down to how it handles Chayton Littlestone in the eyes of viewers. Only Rabbit and Proctor, of the series’ other antagonists, have had meaningful arcs across multiple seasons of Banshee, and Proctor has moved so far away from pure villainy that it’s hard to put him into the same category as Rabbit and Chayton. With Rabbit, a long arc was ended in a surprisingly satisfying way. All of the normal strengths Banshee displays–action, parallel storytelling (often with past and present), big character moments–were a part of season two’s finale, “Bullets and Tears,” but the actual scene...
