Loretta Ramos Named Senior Director Of Blumhouse & K Period Media’s Screamwriting Fellowship Program

Exclusive: Loretta Ramos has been named Senior Director of Blumhouse and K Period Media’s Screamwriting Fellowship program.

Ramos previously served as interim head of the Sundance Institute’s Women of Sundance program.

In her role, she will be responsible for overseeing the program for the two companies, which is run in partnership with the Sundance Institute.

The invite-only program is accepting recommendations for applicants until Friday.

Said Ramos, “There are some truly electric new voices in horror. Writers from all types of backgrounds are bringing new dimensions to the genre, and I’m so excited to lead this initiative to provide equitable opportunities and make sure they feel supported in bringing their visions to life. It’s been wonderful getting to know the teams at K Period Media and Blumhouse and I’m looking forward to working together.”

The Etheria Film Festival Unveils 10th Anniversary Lineup, Dates, and Pays Tribute to Actress Brinke Stevens [Exclusive]

The Etheria Film Festival, a showcase of new horror, science fiction, and fantasy films directed by women, turns 10 this year, and they’re celebrating accordingly. And Bloody Disgusting can exclusively unveil what’s in store for this year’s fest, along with a sneak peek trailer.

The annual festivities will kick off with a live event in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the Screenland Armour Theater with filmmakers and special guests in person for an onstage Q and A followed by an official afterparty. If you’re not able to attend in person, don’t worry; Etheria reteams with Shudder this year, and the official festival lineup will stream exclusively on the streaming service from July 2 through July 31, 2023.

Blumhouse and K Period Media Announce Inaugural ‘Screamwriting’ Fellows for Horror Film and TV Writing Program

Blumhouse and K Period Media have announced the inaugural fellows for the “Screamwriting” program for emerging horror film and TV writers from underrepresented groups.

The program, in partnership with the Sundance Institute, provides mentorship for the participants from industry leaders including Ryan Murphy, Bridget Savage Cole, Danielle Krudy, Mike Flanagan and Crystal Liu.

“Some of the most daring storytelling is being created today in the horror genre,” said Michelle Satter, founding senior director of Sundance Institute’s artist programs, in a statement. “This great collaboration with K Period Media Foundation and Blumhouse is an opportunity for Sundance to continue and expand on our existing work and support their creation of the ‘Screamwriting’ fellowship.”

K Period Media Foundations, part of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, runs the program with independent producer Kimberly Parker Zox directing it. The fellows are set to participate in a week-long intensive in Los Angeles followed by year-long mentorship and support.

Blumhouse and K Period Media, the production company founded by Kimberly Steward, revealed their inaugural cohort of nine fellows selected to participate in the first annual Blumhouse and K Period Media Screamwriting Fellowship, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The program, created in partnership with the Sundance Institute, was established to provide support and mentorship to underrepresented emerging film and television writers aspiring to work in the horror genre.

The week-long intensive lab kicks off today in Los Angeles with the generous support of advisors Karen Joseph Adcock, Simon Barrett, Dwight Caines, Jacob Chase, Bridget Savage Cole, Mike Flanagan, Christine D’Souza Gelb, Alayna Glasthal, Josh Godfrey, Disney Hall, Walter Hamada, Cindy Holland, Danielle Krudy, Chris Landon, Nick Lazo, Keith Levine, Damon Lindelof, Crystal Liu, Grant Moninger, Ryan Murphy, Couper Samuelson, Rob Savage, Ryan Turek and Kevin Williamson.

For all the praise going around for The Jinx’s ending to end all endings, one bone of contention has lingered throughout the documentary’s six-episode run: its reenactments of the murders of Kathie Durst, Susan Berman, and Morris Black. The deceased exist in parallel universes onscreen: in real-life photos and videos, and in highly aestheticized rehashings that imagine their final moments. According to Chelsea Gonzalez, who acts as Kathie Durst’s stand-in, the scenes were huge productions, meticulously shot on-and-off over two years. Most often, they would film at director Andrew Jarecki's home in upstate New York, where Kathie's family and friends would drop by now and then to observe the process.
