Rebecca Crews was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Her parents were Anna King and Samuel King. Rebecca was born to an interracial couple at a time that interracial marriage was not legal in every state. She was raised in Gary, Indiana, where her mother was a financial representative for Equitable Life Assurance, and her father was an engineer at US Steel, and a part-time musician. He passed away suddenly in a car accident when she was six years old.
She attended various private schools until enrolling and graduating from Lew Wallace High School in 1984.. She was an honor student as well as a Merit Scholar. She attended Western Michigan University, where she majored in Musical Theater and minored in Dance. She performed in several musical productions, " Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", "Evita", "Pippin" ,"Can Can", "Eubie", and "Dreamgirls".
Rebecca met and married her husband , actor Terry Crews while he was still a scholar athlete at Western Michigan University. They married in 1989, and in 1991., he was drafted to the NFL by the Los Angeles Rams. The couple criss-crossed the country as Terry played for six teams in seven years. They had two children, Naomi Anna Marie, and Azriel Patricia Crews.
In 1997, as the couple had promised each other, they moved to Los Angeles to pursue their entertainment dreams. Terry, wanting to be a writer/director began taking scripts around town. eventually landing a literary agent, but not selling a single script. In the meantime, working as a bouncer, friends told him about an audition for an athletic game show, and he was chosen to play his first character "T - Money", and his acting career began. he appeared in several movies, and did his first television series "Everybody Hates Chris" where he played Chris Rock's father "Julius"!
Rebecca continued raising the family, adding three more children, Tera Zella, Wynfrey Elizabeth, and Isaiah Samuel, and eventually ended up doing reality television with her husband and children on their BET Number One Reality Series, "The Family Crews"! The show peaked at about 2 million viewers, but was not renewed by BET partially due to Terry being under contract to another television program,. "Are We There Yet" , with Ice Cube's Ice House productions.
Rebecca continued auditioning as an actress, and host, and has appeared in over 80 television episodes as herself, or representing herself. She also followed her first love, which was music, and released some singles and an EP under the pseudonym REGINA MADRE. She climbed up the Urban Adult-Contemporary Charts with two songs, "What You Wanna Do " and "Reachin' for the Top". Peaking at #33 in the nation, she was also featured on XM radio Heart and Soul, Sunday Mimosa with two songs, "I Keep Holding On" and "Destiny". In 2020 during the pandemic, Rebecca released her first multi-song project self titled REGINA MADRE it received over 800,000 streams on all platforms.
She also appeared in the independent black film project "Blueberry" where she portrayed a character named Grace. The Project won many independent film awards.
In 2020, right before the pandemic, Rebecca was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer, and publicly shared her journey with her fans about self-care and early detection. During the same year, she launched her fashion brand, REBECCA CREWS LLC., featuring women's tuxedos, suit wear, coats, shoes, and handbags. She also featured a small collection of lipsticks to match the clothing. Her brand was celebrated by a launch party and a weeklong installation at Saks Fifth Avenue, Beverly Hills in December of 2021. In February 2023, she debuted her 2023 Spring Collection at a NYFW Fashion Show, at the Bernhardt Studio on Madison Avenue, NY. Her clothing has been worn by celebrities such as Christina Milian, Tatyana Ali, Avril Lavigne, Garcelle Bouveau, Kym Whitley, Geena Davis, Lilly Singh, MC Lyte, and many others.
Today Rebecca is running her company, and is a sought after speaker, on family, and show business. Her children , following the family business are also actors, singers, producers and writers, and have performed on television, in theater, and on the Internet.
Terry and Rebecca co-authored a book about their marriage and their journey, entitled "Stronger Together" It is available exclusively on Audible. Rebecca lives in Los Angeles California with her husband of 35 years, her adult children, who really aren't at home anymore, her granddaughter Miley, and their dog Lola.
