North Bend Film Fest 2019 Review: The Incredible Shrinking Wknd Pushes a Familiar Concept into a Clever and Unnerving Direction
Have you ever felt stuck? Like life has ground to a halt and you’re not making any kind of forward momentum? Maybe it was made worse by the fact that when you looked around at your friends, you saw them all moving forward in some way. New jobs, new prospects, new adventures—everybody taking that next step except for you. Maybe you were fine with it, and were quite comfortable with where you were, or maybe it felt terrible. We have all been there. It’s a natural part of transitioning into new stages of life. Some people make the jump quickly and others take a bit more time.

It’s that point of stagnation that informs Jon Mikel Caballero’s first feature, The Incredible Shrinking Wknd. The film made its Us debut at the North Bend Film Fest, kicking off the second annual festival in a very gratifying way.

‘The Incredible Shrinking Wknd’ Review: 2019 Is the Year of Great Time Loop Stories | Nbff
We’ve seen our fair share of time loop stories recently, most notably the Emmy nominated Netflix series Russian Doll and Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day 2U. It’s tough walking into yet another similarly formatted story without wondering, can this one possibly bring something new to the table? And in the case of The Incredible Shrinking Wknd, the answer is a resounding, yes. Jon Mikel Caballero’s feature directorial debut puts the focus on Alba (Iria del Río), a young woman ready for a weekend getaway with her boyfriend Pablo (Adam Quintero) and their friends. They enjoy some …...

‘The Incredible Shrinking Wknd’ Review: It’s Like ‘Groundhog Day,’ But For Breaking Up [Fantasia Film Festival 2019]
We’ve all had moments we wish we could redo, so that we could say something better or not say it at all. If only we could get a redo, another take… The Incredible Shrinking Wknd, written and directed by Jon Mikel Caballero, is the story of Alba (Iria del Rio), a young woman freshly turned […]

Fantasia 2019 Review: A Relationship Disintegrates Over And Over In The Incredible Shrinking Wknd
It's been over a week since I first saw Jon Mikel Caballero's fantastical relationship drama, The Incredible Shrinking Wknd at Fantasia and I just cannot shake it. An incredible fantasy film that blends elements of Groundhog Day and Timecrimes into a micro level investigation of a love affair gone south that will find an empathetic audience absolutely riveted by its profound simplicity. A group of six friends, three couples, head out into the wilderness near an old munitions factory for a relaxing weekend when something strange happens. Alba (Iria del Río) and her boyfriend of several years, Pablo (Adam Quintero), seem to be having a fine time until a relatively sudden argument breaks out regarding their differing outlooks on life and Pablo breaks up with...

North Bend Film Festival Announces Lineup
While some may not recognise the little town of North Bend, Washington, "Twin Peaks" superfans will certainly recognize the town as the original shooting location of the cult show. It's not the first place you'd think of as a "go-to" location for a genre film festival but that's exactly what this town will turn into from August 15 to 18, 2019.

Celebrating its second edition, this year's North Bend Film Festival will open with the Us Premiere of Jon Mikel Caballero's The Incredible Shrinking Wknd and close with the acclaimed documentary Circus of Books about the famed bookstore and gay pornography shop of the same name in West Hollywood.

Other notable titles in this year's line-up include the Us premiere of Rodney Archer (Room 237 (...

Trailer for Short Ashen Hints At Gorgeous Nostalgia
Earlier this year, we shared the incredible sci-fi short Hibernation. Jon Mikel Caballero's film was a throw-back to old school 1970s science fiction, as much about human relationships as about the science, beautifully shot and perfectly performed. Lucky for us, he has a new short with an amazing trailer.Soon to be on the festival circuit, Ashen, like Caballero's first short, is an homage to older science-fiction, though this time that of the 50s. This was the early days of comic books, days when fear of communism and the cold war translated into the metaphor of aliens and invasion from outer space. In the film, young Em is looking forward to celebrating her birthday, when her father asks her to wait in the family home's...

Hibernation: Watch Jon Mikel Caballero's Award Winning Short
Now that it's festival run is over, Spanish filmmaker Jon Mikel Caballero wants to share his award-winning short film, Hibernation, with you. It is an emotionally driven work of sci-fi with a bittersweet ending. The visual style is reminiscent of sci-fi films from the 60s and 70s.  You can watch the full short below. Joseph is an astronaut set to go where no man has gone in the Universe through the hibernation program. But something is wrong between him and his instructor Claire, and decisions that seemed unshakeable begin to tremble. Some folks who worked on TwitchFilm faves lent their skills to this projects. Eugenio Mira, director of Grand Piano and Agnosia composed the score for the short and Sergio G. Sánchez, writer of The Orphanage, was...
