‘One Piece’ Is Underplaying Roger’s Strength After His Battle With the Rocks Pirates
Image
A legendary treasure lies at the heart of One Piece, and the intense race to find it began with one remarkable man who once ruled the seas and possessed everything. This man was none other than Gol D. Roger, the only pirate in history who managed to earn the title of Pirate King and turn the entire One Piece world upside down.

His legacy as one of the greatest characters in One Piece is not only defined by his actions but also by his enemies and the image that he built in front of them. The biggest example of this is witnessed through the former member of the Rocks Pirates, who later became legendary characters within the story, but never forgot how Roger changed the world.

However, it feels like the One Piece storyline has not given enough respect to his name and his achievements that led to him becoming Pirate King.

Rocks D. Xebec’s Pirate Crew Explained
Image
The Rocks Pirates are regarded as one of the most legendary crews in One Piece. They are arguably the strongest in their world, and they often kill each other, too. It took Roger cooperating with Garp to take them down, once and for all.

The captain and a few of the crew members remain a mystery to us, while some of them are iconic characters in One Piece’s present. Eiichiro Oda even recently revealed one was hiding in plain sight, appearing a long time ago.

Slowly, fans are getting to know who the Rocks Pirates really were, and why they were such a huge threat to the World Government. This list will detail the crew members who have been revealed, including new names mentioned in Chapter 1155’s leaks.

7 One Piece Movies Worth Watching (And 8 You Can Skip)
Image
Over its many years, the One Piece franchise has spawned a litany of movies of varying quality. The adventures of protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and his crew are some of the most iconic and recognizable in anime, but their quality seems to vary greatly. Fans may also wonder what movies are worth a watch, and they may be surprised by how quickly this thins out the catalog of One Piece tie-in movies.

Completionist fans, or fans who are simply curious about old and obscure tie-in anime movies, can enjoy every single One Piece movie, but discerning fans are advised to sort the movies worth watching from the chaff. Even if this is one of the best anime series of all time, not everything One Piece touches is gold, and it has its fair share of duds in its movie lineup. The good news is that the few truly great One Piece...

Image

Although this character has not been revealed, he has made quite a few appearances since the beginning of the Elbaph arc and will most likely hold a lot of importance in the One Piece narrative. As fans try to figure out who this mysterious figure is, all the fingers point towards one individual character who, although a part of the One Piece storyline, has never made an official appearance in the main storyline.

This character is none other than Shiki, the Golden Lion. Shiki was Roger’s one of the biggest rivals,...

As if the Egghead Arc didn't reveal enough already, One Piece's Elbaph Arc is finally about to explain a mystery that has haunted fans for thirteen long years. In chapter #1132 of One Piece, a silhouette identical to the man in the cover story with Crocus can be seen walking through the forests of Elbaph. The figure sports the same spiky long hair and conical hat and appears to be the same man who was waiting for the Straw Hats at the shore of Elbaph at the beginning of the arc. One Piece's Elbaph Arc Just Subtly Confirmed One of Its Best Movies Is Officially Canon
Image
Chapter #1131 of One Piece is packed with details that deepen the Elbaph Arc storyline, with the Straw Hats getting more engaged with the lore and events of the island. Among the chapters highlights are Lokis confirmation that the mysterious Adam Wood originates from the Jewel Tree Adam, and Luffy learning that Shanks recently visited Elbaph. However, a subtle detail in their conversation has also confirmed that one of the best One Piece movies could be considered officially canon for the series.

Over the past two decades, the One Piece series has released numerous movies, each offering a unique adventure outside the main manga storyline. Yet, One Piece Film: Strong World always stood out as particularly connected to the manga's narrative, especially since Eiichiro Oda himself wrote it. Fans have long speculated about its canonicity, but a major hint in Chapter #1131 finally confirms it.

Eiichiro Oda: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji Getting Too Strong is “Something I spent a lot of time agonizing over” in One Piece
Image
From Romance Dawn to Egghead, the Strawhats have undergone an impressive growth in One Piece. They recognised their strengths very early in their journey and trained hard to reach their current level. A part of their strength comes from the desire to protect their loved ones, especially the crew members. In arcs like Enies Lobby and Whole Cake Island, we got to witness how far the Strawhats were willing to go.

However, the monstrous strength of the Strawhats has also posed some challenges to Eiichiro Oda. After the release of One Piece Film: Strong World, Oda opened up in an interview about the challenges he faced as a result of the Monster Trio’s strength.

Shanks Beat Notorious Yonko Who Once Tried to Kill Gol D. Roger In Order to Earn His Yonko Status- One Piece Theory
Image
In the world of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, becoming a Yonko of the Sea is one of the biggest achievable titles that any pirate can have for themselves. While the series features many faces, only 4 names are worthy enough to bear that title; they are none other than Luffy, Shanks, Blackbeard, and Buggy.

Fans have witnessed the growth of Monkey D. Luffy from being a rookie to becoming an Emperor of the Sea. However, fans are immensely curious about how the Captain of the Red-Hair Pirates achieved his title. While there have been several rumors, the hosts of That One Piece Talk podcast shared their theory of how the character would have made him a notorious name in the Grand Line.

The theory states that Red-Hair might have taken down a ghost from the past who once went against the King of the Pirates with...

Vice Admiral Garp's Strongest Rivals In One Piece
Image
Many notable One Piece pirates rose to power during the Great Pirate Era, and several Marines stood up to face them. Monkey D. Garp is the legendary Marine Vice Admiral who battled the former Pirate King numerous times. He was offered several promotions, but he refused to become an Admiral because he believed he would lose most of his freedom. Garp has made many enemies over the years, but only a handful of individuals can be considered his rivals.

Most of Garp's biggest rivals are Yonko-level pirates, but he also has issues with another Marine and a former student. All of these individuals possess Haki, but some of them also have Devil Fruit powers. Garp is now in his late 70s, but he is still a force to be reckoned with because of his Haki mastery. His Galaxy Impact attacks uses advanced Conqueror's Haki, and can still destroy a small town.

The 5 Best One Piece Movies Ranked
Image
"One Piece" needs no introduction. This is one of the biggest anime of all time, and a franchise that helped change the anime medium and manga forever. As a long-running story, "One Piece" features one of the biggest and most fleshed-out worlds in all of fiction, up there with J.R.R. Tolkien's Legendarium. Granted, the number of episodes is daunting, but the longevity and reputation of "One Piece" work to its advantage, as you see the world slowly change throughout the story, and the characters grow and develop over the years.

Like most big anime franchises, "One Piece" is more than just an anime or a manga, but a big franchise with almost as many movies as "Pokémon." With 17 movies to date, some movies are better than others at capturing what makes "One Piece" so special and endearing. If you care only about the best of the best, here are...

How Shonen Manga Treats Non-Canon Material
Image
The relationship between canon and non-canon material in the shonen manga industry has changed over time, with more recent works frequently treating anime-only content as canon. Dragon Ball, One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Naruto have all incorporated non-canon characters and events into their manga, showing a shift in the industry's willingness to adapt and acknowledge non-canon material. As the landscape of shonen manga continues to change, its most popular franchises seem to hint that anime-only content will continue to become more and more important.

Something out of the ordinary happened in a recent volume of Weekly Shonen Jump. Chapter 1096 of One Piece, "Kumachi," featured Shiki the Golden Lion, the main antagonist of One Piece Film: Strong World, in a speaking cameo; meanwhile, Chapter 405 of My Hero Academia, "The Final Boss," featured Katsuya and Mahoro Shimano from the Heroes Rising movie. It doesn't seem like long ago when neither of...

“Judge the art, not the artist.” That is the mantra we hear each and every time someone in the entertainment world is accused of heinous behavior, and it’s one that was repeated by artistic director Alberto Barbera prior to this year’s Venice Film Festival.

In an interview with The Guardian, Barbera discussed his decision to include films by Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, and Luc Besson in the 2023 festival program — Polanski’s The Palace, a class comedy about a dinner party at a luxury Swiss hotel on the eve...

Dune: The Sisterhood HBO Max series casts Travis Fimmel as the male lead
Image
All of the cast members announced for the HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films) up to this point have been for female roles – which makes sense, since the show is going to be about “a mysterious order of women”. But now Deadline has broken the news that the show does have a male lead among its characters, and that role is going to be played by Travis Fimmel (Raised by Wolves).

Diane Ademu-John, who previously worked on The Haunting of Bly Manor at Netflix, Empire at Fox, The Originals and The Vampire Diaries at The CW, and Medium and Crossing Jordan at NBC, is the showrunner on Dune: The Sisterhood. Ademu-John is also writing and executive producing the show, which will be

After 65 Years, London Film Festival Can Still Surprise
Image
A total of 164 feature films will play at this year’s London Film Festival, alongside an abundance of shorts, TV series and an expanded program of Xr (extended reality) works — and that’s in a comparatively slimmed-down era of curation for a public-facing festival that has long aimed to bring the best of the global festival circuit to non-traveling cinephiles.

What has definitely grown is the Lff’s national reach: In what fest director Tricia Tuttle terms the festival’s “new normal” format after a few years of structural shifts and Covid-era adjustments, the capital-centered event will also be hosting screenings in 10 other cities around the U.K., from Manchester to Edinburgh to Belfast — sealing its status as the country’s preeminent film festival. A digital program of up to 20 titles will also be made available for online viewing, while short films and screen talks will be free to stream...

About Endlessness (2019)
Roy Andersson Drama ‘About Endlessness’ Acquired by Magnolia for 2020 Release
About Endlessness (2019)
Magnolia Pictures has acquired the U.S. rights to “About Endlessness,” a Swedish drama from director Roy Andersson, the distributor announced Monday. Magnolia plans to release the film theatrically in 2020.

Andersson, the director of “You, The Living” and “A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence,” won Best Director at the Venice International Film Festival where the film made its premiere. It made its North American premiere at Tiff.

His latest film, “About Endlessness,” is a reflection on human life in all its beauty and cruelty, its splendor and banality. We wander, dreamlike, gently guided by our Scheherazade-esque narrator. Inconsequential moments take on the same significance as historical events: a couple floats over a war-torn Cologne; on the way to a birthday party, a father stops to tie his daughter’s shoelaces in the pouring rain; teenage girls dance outside a cafe; a defeated army marches to a prisoner-of-war camp.

‘Joker’ Threat Concerns Has NYPD Taking Undercover Precautions For Opening Weekend
Exclusive: Amid concerns about potential violent situations, the opening weekend of Warner Bros’ controversial Joker in New York City will see an increased police presence both in and out of uniform.

Earlier this week, the NYPD’s Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison told officers that the department plans to visibly station cops at theaters showing the Joaquin Phoenix-starring film. Now Deadline has learned that a significant undercover detachment will also be deployed to make sure nothing untoward occurs inside cinemas in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.

“This is 360-degree policing approach to ensure safety for ticket buyers in their seats, as well as on the streets,” a law enforcement official said of the strategy to have plain-clothed police in a number of theaters in America’s largest city starting with the October 3 previews and throughout the expected heavily attended weekend. “If something happens inside one of the screenings,...

‘Joker’ Wins Venice Film Festival Golden Lion, Roman Polanski Gets Grand Jury Prize
The 2019 Venice International Film Festival has wrapped, and this year’s edition has announced its award winners. The Golden Lion, the festival’s top laureate, went to “Joker,” which is a strong statement from this year’s competition jury led by Lucrecia Martel. See the complete list of this year’s winners below.

In recent years, the Venice Golden Lion has gone to films that went on to have legs in the awards-season conversation stateside. Last year’s Lion went to Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma,” which won three Academy Awards for Netflix but lost Best Picture to “Green Book.” The year prior, the Golden Lion went to Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water,” which won Best Picture at the Oscars in 2018.

In a surprise upset over Joaquin Phoenix in hot competition title “Joker” (until it carried off with the Golden Lion), Best Actor went to Luca Marinelli for...

‘Joker’ Wins Golden Lion, Roman Polanski’s ‘An Officer and a Spy’ Wins Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival
Joaquin Phoenix in Joker (2019)
“Joker” from director Todd Phillips won the Golden Lion, and “J’Accuse,” or “An Officer and a Spy,” from director Roman Polanski has won the Grand Jury Prize, the festival’s runner up prize, at the 76th edition of the Venice Film Festival.

The comic book film starring Joaquin Phoenix in an origin story of the iconic Batman villain beat out a lineup that also included films such as James Gray’s “Ad Astra” and Steven Soderbergh’s “The Laundromat” for the top prize.

“I want to thank Warner Bros. and DC for stepping out of their comfort zone and taking a big swing on me,” director Todd Phillips said as he accepted the Golden Lion.

Polanski’s “An Officer and a Spy” stars Jean Dujardin in a film about the Dreyfus Affair. His presence at the festival generated some backlash, as it’s his first film since the director...

Venice Film Festival Winners: ‘Joker’ Is Golden Lion; Roman Polanski’s ‘An Officer And A Spy’ Takes Grand Jury Prize
Lucrecia Martel
Refresh for latest…: The 76th Venice Film Festival draws to a close tonight with the winners about to be announced from inside the Sala Grande on the Lido. It’s been another year replete with strong movies hungry for awards season attention, as well as a fair share of controversy. And, it’s anybody’s guess which way Lucrecia Martel’s jury will swing.

Among the most contested titles, from even before the fest kicked off, is Roman Polanski’s An Officer And A Spy which nevertheless held sway with Italian critics in an annual poll. Any win tonight would certainly seem to cement the divide between U.S. and Euro perspectives in the #MeToo era.

Overall, and for Hollywood, among the biggest show-stopping moments of the past 10 days was the world premiere of Warner Bros’ Joker with a mesmerizing turn by star Joaquin Phoenix. Also highly-praised are such...
