The "Paranormal Activity" movies are credited with taking the terror out of art-directed dungeons and dilapidated bathrooms and putting it right smack dab in the middle of our bedrooms. The "Saw" series raised a white flag of surrender after "Paranormal Activity" took most of the Halloween box office dollars in 2009, bringing an end to Jigsaw's legacy and returning us to the land of lo-fi horror.

Since then, the "Paranormal" series has become something of its own "Saw"-sized franchise, with the fourth installment set to hit theaters this Friday. Somewhat unfortunately (though probably inevitably), the more this decades-spanning haunted house tale expands and explains its increasingly silly mythology, the less scary and interesting it becomes — though we have to give props to the producers for maintaining the low-budget, "found footage" aesthetic that the first film incorporated so brilliantly.

There is a lot Paranormal Activity grand maestro Oren Peli won’t talk about. He won’t talk about his long delayed Area 51. He won’t talk about any hypothetical projects or anyone he wants to work with in the future. He won’t give any specifics on his new TV series, The River. And he professes that he has no idea what Paranormal Activity 4 will look like. With this in mind, it is no great shock to announce that a recent afternoon tea with Peli, as well as Christopher Nicholas Smith, Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown (all of Paranormal Activity 3) and Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston (stars of the original film) revealed no great secrets about the franchise’s future. Rather, much like the films themselves, it was an afternoon of looking back and filling in the holes and unanswered questions about what came before.

Chicago – It is incredibly rare for a third installment in a franchise to find what was lost in the second one. That usually takes much longer, if it ever comes. “Saw III,” “Friday the 13th, Part III,” “Halloween III” — none of these movies come close to the original. Which is why it’s so remarkable to report that “Paranormal Activity 3” comes surprisingly close to the quality of the first film, arguably surpassing it.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of the Paranormal Activity franchise or “found footage’ movies in general but, like any good reviewer, I have to put my prejudices aside and judge the film on its own merits. Which in the case of this prequel/three-quel are few and far between.

Last week Paramount held a "Tea With Toby" at The Roosevelt Hotel in celebrate today's DVD/Blu-ray release of Paranormal Activity 3. What was "Tea With Toby"? It was a press event where I (among other journalists) was summoned to the hotel for a late afternoon Tea. While it was a breezy and enjoyable 90 minutes, the gracious and polite Peli lived up to his notoriously tight-lipped reputation in regard to any new info on the series. And the cast followed suit.

Paramount is going out of their way to let you know that Paranormal Activity 3 debuts on January 24, 2012 from Paramount Home Entertainment in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack with UltraViolet and a Digital Copy. This time, they've unloaded two scenes deleted from the theatrical cut of the film that will be included in the supplements of the Blu (if not in the extended cut of the film itself). Lauren Bittner discovers demons while making a sex tape in Paranormal Activity 3, on Blu-ray January 24th

The highest grossing horror film of 2011 is set to unleash its wicked ways on Blu-ray and DVD, as Paranormal Activity 3 comes home next Tuesday, January 24th. A prequel that finds young Katie and her sister Kristi coming in contact with the supernatural for the first time, this crowd-pleasing thriller proved to be a huge hit amongst fans and critics alike when it took theaters by storm back in October.

To celebrate the upcoming home video release, we chatted with the talented and very beautiful Lauren Bittner, who plays mom to two young daughters terrorized by an unseen demon. For her thoughts on making a sex tape, the impact something like this might have on a real mother's life, and her expectations for the recently announced Paranormal Activity 4, read our conversation below.

On a bright and sunny Friday the 13th, Dread Central was invited alongside several other journalists to have "Tea with Toby"- the demon behind all the terrifying shenanigans in the Paranormal Activity series- as well as a few of his co-stars and the mastermind behind it all, writer/director/producer Oren Peli.

During tea we had the opportunity to chat with Peli, stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat (whom we first meet during the original film) as well as Christopher Smith, Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown from Paranormal Activity 3.

Over the course of a few hours, we heard from everyone in attendance on pretty much anything and everything fans of the Paranormal Activity franchise would want to know. In no particular order, these are the stand out films that are worth adding to any video library. The set of criteria is simple: a standout performance by one or more of the first billed actors that can be re-watched time and time again. Their complexity is what defines the film. Also important is the type of chills or thrills the movie offers, and the story being told.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

Although this film is technically a 2010 product, it did not reach distribution until the following year. This one, like how some of the victims died in film, skips under the gun by being exceptionally funny with an adorable, luggable, teddy bear performance by Tyler Labine. This product is a better answer to a theatrical version of the Beverly Hillbillies. The clash of cultures is perfectly played up for laughs.

The third installment of the horror franchise, Paranormal Activity 3 is a prequel of the first two movies, looking at how the, well, paranormal activity surrounding their family began.

Set in 1988, the film watches young sisters Katie (Chloe Csengery) and Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown) as they make friends with an invisible entity living in their home.

Katie Featherston, Molly Ephraim and Brian Boland return to their roles as the older Katie, Ali Rey and Daniel Rey, respectively, roles Featherston played in both prior movies and Ephraim and Boland introduced in Paranormal Activity 2.

Rated R, the spooky third film, told via security camera footage and home movies, got mixed reviews from critics and audiences, but that didn’t stop Paranormal Activity 3 from racking up $103 million when it was in theaters.

Chris and Reagan looked to knock the dust off their love life in this week's episode, "First Night Away." The lesson? Don't tell Ava the babysitter's dead sick if you don't want her to volunteer to watch your child in her stead. I guess six weeks of no sex will make you do some crazy things.

You had to love how seriously Ava took the enormous responsibility of watching Amy, though. It was a great decision to show off Maya Rudolph's character, as opposed to her caricature. There still were plenty of hilarious moments, such as when she yelled "Stranger Danger" after Kevin said hi to Amy and when she went into Mama Bear/Honey Badger babysitter mode when she thought someone was trying to break into the house.

The movie Paranormal Activity 3 finally gets a chance to explain itself and provide for some interesting moments. After the events from the first two movies, there are a lot of questions asked which gets revealed with this new one.

The film begins with an adult Katie (Katie Featherston) going to see Kristi (Sprague Grayden). She is there to see how the happy couple is doing, and to drop off a box of old VHS tapes. She says that they are from Grandma Lois, presumably now deceased, and she has not had the time to look at them. I love the .Paranormal Activity. franchise. The first one intrigued me, the second one scared me, and the third made me believe in the potency of the franchise. So I was happy as a clam to interview the directors of the third installment, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

Paramount Pictures has announced a special single night triple-feature of all three Paranormal Activity films back-to-back, only at Regal Cinemas. It was not surprising that Paranormal Activity was turned into a franchise after the original, which was made on a budget of $15,000, made over $100 million at the box office. What is surprising is that Paranormal Activity 3, despite rehashing the same formula as the first two films, still manages to scare people half to death.

The evil is back. The incorporeal evil has been caught on tape again, and this time it has a name... Toby. That's right, the malevolent entity haunting the family in the Paranormal Activity series is named Toby. At least, that is, according to Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown), who gives the name to what her sister Katie (Chloe Csengery) thinks is her imaginary friend.
