Little Simz has announced her new album, Lotus, out May 9th via Awal Recordings. As a preview, she’s dropped the thundering new song “Flood” and its accompanying video. Stream it below.

Marking Little Simz’s sixth studio album, Lotus is the follow-up to 2022’s No Thank You. According to a press release, its title “embodies renewal and growth” while “mirroring her evolving artistry and the album’s thematic voyage through life’s intricate phases.” Pre-orders are ongoing.

“Flood” features dynamic, thumping production from Miles Clinton James and contributions from longtime collaborator Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly. With a whispered flow, Little Simz lets loose a torrent of lyrics hitting back at her haters.

On the last verse, however, she gives instructions for success: “Number three, take care of yourself/ Be vigilant, mind who you help/ You pray you can make it heaven/ And they’re tryna drag you to hell.

Coldplay have released a new single, “We Pray,” featuring Little Simz, Burna Boy, Tini, and Elyanna. The uplifting track is available in five versions, including a live version from the band’s 2024 Glastonbury headlining set, where they initially premiered the song.

The five versions are available now on EcoCD and recycled 12” format, while the Tini version will be available on streaming sites Sept. 6 and the Elyanna version will follow on Sept. 20. The Glastonbury live rendition is exclusive to the physical versions.

The band, led by frontman Chris Martin, just dropped their new song “We Pray” featuring acclaimed UK rapper Little Simz, Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, Palestinian-Chilean R&b phenomenon Elyanna, and chart-topping Argentine Tini.

The film and television icon, who has battled Parkinson’s disease since 1991, joined the band midway through their performance of “Humankind.” After serenading Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, frontman Chris Martin turned his attention to “another legendary Michael.” Martin continued his singsong introduction by describing the Back to the Future star as the “one who just totally rocks, with his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff… Ladies and gentleman, please welcome Michael J.Fox!”

Fox took the stage in a wheelchair and played guitar along with the rest of Coldplay. He then stuck around for “Fix You.”

The headliners for the 2024 edition of the Glastonbury music festival have been announced, and the names include Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Sza. The iconic British music festival is set to return to Somerset’s Worthy Farm on June 26 and will go on to June 30.

Dua Lipa will make her Pyramid Stage debut as the festival’s Friday night headliner, on a bill also featuring Glastonbury veterans LCD Soundsystem and Pj Harvey, reports ‘Variety’.

The British rock band Coldplay will make their first Pyramid Stage appearance since 2016 on Saturday night, with the only European festival appearance slated for their ongoing world tour.

With the appearance, the group, which previously held the joint headliner record with The Cure, will go one past and become the first act to headline Glastonbury five times.

As per ‘Variety’, Little Simz makes a return to Glastonbury to play the slot immediately before Coldplay.

Hoyte Van Hoytema has taken top honors at the 38th annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for his work on “Oppenheimer.”

Van Hoytema topped a field that included Edward Lachman for “El Conde, Matthew Libatique for “Maestro,” Rodrigo Prieto for “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Robbie Ryan for “Poor Things.”

The film flopped in theaters but is now streaming, allowing new audiences to discover its funny and entertaining true story. The soundtrack features popular songs like "Wap" by Cardi B and "Humble" by Kendrick Lamar, which enhance key moments in the film.

Craig Gillespie’s comedy-drama film Dumb Money is based on the true story of the GameStop short squeeze of January 2021 and effectively uses its soundtrack to add to its humor. Dumb Money is now streaming, bringing new audiences to the film after it unfortunately flopped in theaters last year. Despite Dumb Money’s positive reviews, it only made $8 million at the box office. Luckily, viewers can revisit Dumb Money and discover the surprisingly funny and entertaining true story of the short squeeze.

“El Conde,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Poor Things,” and “Oppenheimer” were nominated by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) for outstanding achievement in theatrical film cinematography. Winners will be announced during the 38th Annual ASC Awards ceremony on March 3 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California; the event will also be live-streamed worldwide on theasc.com.

On the television side, the ASC singled out episodes of “Barry,” “The Bear,” and the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” alongside sci-fi stalwarts “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and “Foundation,” among others. The nominees for best anthology or limited series included episodes of “George and Tammy” and “Lessons in Chemistry” as well as made-for-tv movie “Boston Strangler.”

The ASC also singled out three documentaries: the first episode of the docu-series “Murder in Big Horn,” as well as the films “King Coal” and “Kokomo City.”

Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s lensing of Martin Scorsese’s drama Killers of the Flower Moon and Robbie Ryan’s photography of Yorgos Lanthimos’ fantasy Poor Things are among the nominees in the feature competition of the 2024 American Society of Cinematographers Awards, which will be held March 3 at the Beverly Hilton.

They are nominated alongside Edward Lachman, for Pablo Larraín’s El Conde; Matthew Libatique for Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Berstein drama Maestro; and Hoyte van Hoytema for Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer. All five Oscar-nominated DPs have been previously nominated in this ASC category and each are seeking their first win. Lachman, whose previous credits include Carol and Far from Heaven, was the ASC’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award winner. This year, Prieto’s work also includes Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

Last year’s feature film winner Mandy Walker made history when she became the first woman to win the ASC Award for her work on Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis.” However, she did not go on to win the cinematography Oscar, which went to “All Quiet on the Western Front.” Still, seven of the past 11 ASC winners went on to win the Oscar for best cinematography.

Taylor Swift would have been the big winner of the night, had the 2023 MTV EMAs gone forward as planned on Nov. 5. Just two weeks before the show was to take place in Paris, MTV canceled the awards, citing, “volatility of world events.” Instead, the network released the full list of winners on Sunday night, saying, “as fans worldwide voted for their favorite categories including best artist, best song and more, MTV is recognizing the following artists with 2023 MTV EMAs.”

The 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards nominations are here!

This year’s MTV EMAs sees Taylor Swift leading with seven nominations, including Best Artist, Best Song and Best Video.

Olivia Rodrigo and Sza are just behind Taylor with six noms each, with Doja Cat, Måneskin, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj having four each.

This year’s event will be broadcast live to more than 150 countries on November 5 from the Paris Nord, the first time the ceremony has returned to Paris since 1995. The show will also be available in a number of international territories on Pluto TV and on-demand on Paramount+.

Zakiya Dalila Harris’ novel “The Other Black Girl” has hit the small screen in ten episodes filled with songs that support the story’s underlying message of compromising identity and Blackness in a majority-white workplace. Developed by Harris and Rashida Jones, who contributed the intro montage, to Episode 7 set to Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love,” the series crosses multiple genres from comedy to thriller and provides social commentary on how minority Poc employees compromise and navigate the social system of corporate America.

Set to Sza, TLC, Busta Rhymes, H.E.R., Janelle Monae and more, many scenes in the show become even stronger with the songs in the background. Co-showrunners Gus Hickey and Jordan Reddout left the ending open for a potential second season. The suspense and humor go hand in hand with the soundtrack for “The Other Black Girl.”

Jessie Ware took the stage at the 2023 Mercury Prize awards ceremony at London’s Hammersmith Apollo last night to perform her vibrant single “Free Yourself.” Ware, a nominee for this year’s award, was joined by a band, horns section, and several back-up singers.

It’s still wild to think that we have Drake to thank for the revival of Top Boy, Ronan Bennett’s engrossing crime saga that draws to a close on September 7. Like so many of us, the Grammy-winning rapper got caught up in a show, only to find out it had been canceled — in this case, Channel 4 dropped Top Boy, which starred Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, in 2014 after two four-episode seasons. But, unlike the vast majority of the TV-viewing public, Drake had the influence to set a revival in motion, bringing back many original cast members and drawing a slew of new talents like Micheal Ward and Simbiatu Ajikawo (aka Little Simz).

We head back to the Summerhouse Estate in East London for one final time with the release of much-loved crime thriller Top Boy‘s final season.

While Netflix refers to Top Boy: The Final Chapter as season three, die-hard fans know that this will technically be the fifth run of the show, as it originally began as a two-series Channel 4 drama back in 2011 before being cancelled before its time.

Thankfully, Netflix revived Top Boy in 2017 with the help of rapper Drake (aka Aubrey Graham), who remains the show’s Executive Producer, and the two original series are also on the streaming platform as Top Boy: Summerhouse.

After 12 years, five seasons, and a revival aided by Canadian rapper Drake, the thrilling UK crime drama Top Boy has ended fittingly for a show that had become known for its authentic reflection of a specific part of British culture.

Through the story of drug leaders and best friends Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane ‘Kano’ Robinson), viewers witnessed how the dreams of young men wanting to provide for their family and overcome the poor hand they’ve been dealt leads to a life of crime – the only option they feel is open to them. From building a drug empire to violently fighting – and often killing – those who threaten to take their positions, the Summerhouse Estate has gone through a lot to make those dreams come true. But in the final season, Top Boy shows those dreams becoming closer to a nightmare.
