Providing a long-awaited glimpse at Avatar: Fire and Ash's eye-popping visuals, new clans, and stunning new creatures, this sneak peek doesn't reveal too much about the story. Even so, for fans of Pandora, what's shown should be more than enough to convince them to buy a ticket in time for this holiday season.

Then it took him thirteen years to get a sequel into theatres, so it wasn’t clear if the follow-up was going to be able to replicate that success. But then, sure enough, Avatar: The Way of Water also grossed more than $2 billion, paving the way for not only Avatar 3, or Avatar: Fire and Ash, (which is scheduled to reach theatres on December 19, 2025) but also Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 – which will be released on December 21, 2029 and December 19, 2031, respectively. Jake and Neytiri continue to put family first in a fight to survive, with Jake warning his partner Neytiri not to live in hate. The king of the blockbuster, James Cameron, returns this winter with the latest installment of his Avatar franchise. The third feature, Avatar: Fire and Ash, finds David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin joining the ensemble of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. Ahead of a December 19 release, the first trailer has now arrived.

Cameron also recently spoke to Deadline about the franchise and his hopes to adapt Charles Pellegrino’s book Ghosts of Hiroshima, noting, “We drop the next one December 19th, and we’ll take it from there. I’ve got the scripts and we’ve done preliminary designs on four and five and we’re ready to roll into it. But audiences tastes shift, and maybe the movie won’t exactly be what they want it to be. Who knows? We’ll find out.

Right away, the trailer sets the tone. We hear Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, speaking to Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña. “You can’t live like this baby — in hate!” he says. The story continues from where Avatar: The Way of Water left off, and things are far from peaceful.

The action-packed first trailer for James Cameron’s next Avatar fantasy epic has been officially released online (below).

Disney has revealed the trailer for Avatar: Fire & Ash following the footage leaking after the teaser was put exclusively in theaters last week in front of Fantastic Four: First Steps.

One raved that the trailer was “some of the most beautiful footage I’ve seen all year [and I was] struck by the real sense of doom and rage — fist fights inside of cosmic volcanoes, heroes terrified, huge aerial battles.” While an entertainment writer wrote, “[The trailer] started out as ‘meh, more of the same’ and ended with ‘yup, another billion to James Cameron.'” And a film critic wrote: “The visuals are (somehow) on another level. There is no doubt in my mind that this Will be the biggest movie of 2025, and ‘epic’ doesn’t feel like it does this trailer justice.”

Disney has released the first trailer for director James Cameron’s third “Avatar” movie, titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” It’s scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025, three years after “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

Just like “The Way of Water” introduced the aquatic Metkayina clan of Pandora, “Fire and Ash” will debut a new group called the Ash People. At the 2024 D23 Expo, Cameron came on stage to debut a teaser to attendees, which showed the fearsome, soot-covered tribe who danced around a giant fire pit.

“You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron said at the 2024 D23 Expo. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before,” Cameron said during the presentation. “We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”

Disney has confirmed recent reports that the first trailer for James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash will screen ahead of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps this weekend. We're not sure when it will be released online, but we're hearing July 28 (it will almost certainly leak before then).

Now, that’s not to say that there weren’t some very deserving shows that did secure nominations, of course, because there were.

Quaritch and Spider return in #Avatar: Fire And Ash, a father-son dynamic set to get seriously complicated.

Russell Crowe made a surprise appearance at the Mediterrane Film Festival’s Golden Bee Awards on Sunday night, returning to the island where he shot “Gladiator” more than two decades ago.

“If you want to know what I love about Malta, it’s everything,” said Crowe, who was given the Malta Film Legend Award. “26 years ago, in a funny way, I became a man in Malta,” he said, “For whatever films I had done before then, nothing had the majesty, ambition and budget and ultimately reach of ‘Gladiator.’ It wasn’t an easy production. I had to fight every day for the integrity of the character I was playing — just like the journey of the character himself in the movie. And sometimes, you get lucky enough to make something that resonates with people.”

Crowe told a story about a young man who asked him for a photo last week while he was traveling in Italy.

One of Avatar: The Way of Water's biggest shocks came when we learned that Stephen Lang's Miles Quaritch, resurrected as a "recombinant" Na'vi, was the father of Spider, a human child adopted by Jake Sully and Neytiri.

As the movie progressed, Spider was forced to come to terms with his father being a villain looking to lay waste to Pandora alongside the Rda. Despite being raised by Jake and Neytiri, he did bond with his father and begrudgingly saved his life.

However, that doesn't mean they're about to put their differences aside as father and son in this December's Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Talking to Empire Online, (via SFFGazette.com) Lang says, "They reconnect out of necessity. Their connection is not a solo connection. There are times when everybody comes together on some level. But, when enemies cooperate, you can be sure betrayal is just around the corner.

The Mediterrane Film Festival’s Golden Bee Awards will shine a spotlight on some Hollywood stars this weekend.

Avatar was a box office hit in 2009, and 13 years later, 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water was also a huge hit, grossing over $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office. Now, all eyes are on Avatar: Fire and Ash to do the same this December.

The gothic horror series will submit two episodes in directing: "Don't Be Afraid, Just Start the Tape," the fifth installment, directed by Craig Zisk, and "And That's The End of It. There's Nothing Else," the season season finale, helmed by Levan Akin. "Don't Be Afraid, Just Start the Tape," written by Jonathan Ceniceroz and Hannah Moscovitch, will be the show's only submission in writing. No one expected James Cameron to deliver a $2.3 billion blockbuster with an Avatar sequel that came a decade and a half after the first film. He did, and the expectations have been sky high for his next film in the franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash. During CinemaCon, Disney released the first footage from the film to the distributors.

Reports suggest that the released footage has created a buzz among the distributors with its seemingly dark storyline. Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri and Sam Worthington’s Jake Scully appear in the footage as they face off against a threat even more dangerous than the human invaders.

Disney screened the first footage from Avatar: Fire and Ash for exhibitors at CinemaCon on Thursday, introduced by James Cameron in a video segment. Cameron explained that he is in New Zealand finishing the film but was pleased to share a “glimpse at the increased emotional heart and soul.”

Cameron also teased that our heroes “face not only the human invaders but new adversaries, the Ash people.”

Avatar star Zoe Saldaña then took the stage to tease the film. “Fire and Ash expands the beautiful world of Pandora and introduces two new clans, the Wind Traders and the Ash People,” she explained.

The footage opens with Neytiri (Saldaña) telling Jake (Sam Worthington), “The strength of the ancestors is here.”

Later, after the pair deal with dangerous attacks involving plenty of fire, Jake implores Neytiri to let go of her hatred: “You cannot live like this.

James Cameron revealed that his wife had a strong emotional response after watching Avatar: Fire and Ash for the first time. In an interview with Empire, the director said she watched an early cut of the film without having seen any prior footage and was deeply affected.

“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end. She had kept herself away from it, and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along,” Cameron said. “She cried for four hours. She kept trying to compose herself so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d tear up and start crying again.”

He eventually had to pause the conversation. “Finally, I’m like, ‘Honey, I’ve got to go to bed. Sorry, we’ll talk about it some other time,’” he recalled.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third installment in Cameron’s Avatar series.

James Cameron has revealed that Avatar: Fire and Ash, the upcoming third installment in the Avatar franchise, will surpass the runtime of The Way of Water, which ran for three hours and 12 minutes. The director explained that an overflow of ideas during production led to the decision to shift part of the story to the next film.

“In a nutshell, we had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie two,” Cameron told Empire magazine. “The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren’t drilling down enough on character. So I said, ‘Guys, we’ve got to split it.’” As a result, he confirmed, “movie three will actually be a little bit longer than movie two.”
