The first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash has finally been released—via SFFGazette.com—after playing exclusively in theaters before The Fantastic Four: First Steps this past weekend. You may recall that it also leaked online earlier this month, though Disney acted quickly to take it down.
Providing a long-awaited glimpse at Avatar: Fire and Ash's eye-popping visuals, new clans, and stunning new creatures, this sneak peek doesn't reveal too much about the story. Even so, for fans of Pandora, what's shown should be more than enough to convince them to buy a ticket in time for this holiday season.

James Cameron’s official trailer for the third Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is all about the visuals and action scenes, with very little dialogue. Jake and Neytiri continue to put family first in a fight to survive, with Jake warning his partner Neytiri not to live in hate. That appears to be easier said than done when everyone’s trying to kill you.
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña return to lead the cast as Jake and Neytiri. The third film of the franchise also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. James Cameron directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

The king of the blockbuster, James Cameron, returns this winter with the latest installment of his Avatar franchise. The third feature, Avatar: Fire and Ash, finds David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin joining the ensemble of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. Ahead of a December 19 release, the first trailer has now arrived.
Cameron also recently spoke to Deadline about the franchise and his hopes to adapt Charles Pellegrino’s book Ghosts of Hiroshima, noting, “We drop the next one December 19th, and we’ll take it from there. I’ve got the scripts and we’ve done preliminary designs on four and five and we’re ready to roll into it. But audiences tastes shift, and maybe the movie won’t exactly be what they want it to be. Who knows? We’ll find out.

Trailer for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Reveals New Villains, Fiery Conflict, and a Dark Turn for Pandora
The first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash is finally out, and it’s bringing some major heat—literally. The third movie in James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise gives us a glimpse at a much darker side of Pandora, and it’s not looking good for Jake Sully and his family.
The trailer was first shown before The Fantastic Four: First Steps in theaters, but now 20th Century Studios has dropped it online.
This is our first official look at Fire and Ash ahead of its December 19, 2025 release date.
In the trailer, we hear Jake (played by Sam Worthington) pleading with Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), saying, “You can’t live like this baby — in hate!” Tension between the Na’vi and the humans hasn’t cooled down at all, and now we’re seeing even more division among the Na’vi clans themselves. This time, it’s the Ash People who step into the spotlight,...

After beginning play over the weekend in front of The Fantastic Four: First Steps screenings, 20th Century Studios’ trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has dropped. It’s the first look at the third installment of the franchise, and comes ahead of its planned December 19, 2025 release.
“You can’t live like this baby – in hate!” exclaims Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) to his wife, Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña). As we’ve known coming out of the press tour for Avatar: The Way of Water, not all Na’vi clans are nice, and we have known for a while the Ash People were going to be trouble. And the military humans led by Recom Miles Quaritch aren’t letting up. Also shown here, Sully’s children are in peril again, as expressed by Neytiri, and human friend Spider continues to get in entanglements.

The action-packed first trailer for James Cameron’s next Avatar fantasy epic has been officially released online (below).
Disney has revealed the trailer for Avatar: Fire & Ash following the footage leaking after the teaser was put exclusively in theaters last week in front of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
One raved that the trailer was “some of the most beautiful footage I’ve seen all year [and I was] struck by the real sense of doom and rage — fist fights inside of cosmic volcanoes, heroes terrified, huge aerial battles.” While an entertainment writer wrote, “[The trailer] started out as ‘meh, more of the same’ and ended with ‘yup, another billion to James Cameron.'” And a film critic wrote: “The visuals are (somehow) on another level. There is no doubt in my mind that this Will be the biggest movie of 2025, and ‘epic’ doesn’t feel like it does this trailer justice.”

Disney has released the first trailer for director James Cameron’s third “Avatar” movie, titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” It’s scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025, three years after “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
Just like “The Way of Water” introduced the aquatic Metkayina clan of Pandora, “Fire and Ash” will debut a new group called the Ash People. At the 2024 D23 Expo, Cameron came on stage to debut a teaser to attendees, which showed the fearsome, soot-covered tribe who danced around a giant fire pit.
“You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron said at the 2024 D23 Expo. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before,” Cameron said during the presentation. “We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”

How’s this for a logline? When it comes to the third film in James Cameron’s massive “Avatar” franchise, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” Disney will only share that this new installment “takes audiences back to Pandora in an immersive new adventure with Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the Sully family.” That’s all assumed, right? And, for now, that’s about as much plot as we’re going to get in the “Fire and Ash” realm.
The film’s first trailer? It adheres to the same idea. When Disney showed the trailer to a select group of press last week — before a planned rollout alongside “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which opened on Friday, and after a very brief leak of the first look earlier this month — the studio generously played it three times in a row. The first teaser trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash is currently playing in theaters before The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It leaked online in HD earlier a couple of weeks ago, but Disney moved quickly to take those down.
In the meantime, we have two new covers from Empire Magazine putting the spotlight on the Ash People/Mangkwan Clan and their leader, the villainous Varang. We've explored Pandora's forests and seas, but this corner of the planet has a far more sinister feel to it.
"Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that," filmmaker James Cameron explained earlier this year. "She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."

Disney has confirmed recent reports that the first trailer for James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash will screen ahead of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps this weekend. We're not sure when it will be released online, but we're hearing July 28 (it will almost certainly leak before then).
In the meantime, we have a first official poster for the sci-fi threequel, which introduces Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones) as the villainous leader of the Ash People, aka the Mangkwan Clan, Varang.
Cameron has previously said of the character: "Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that. She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."
Check out the poster artwork at the link below, along with some reactions to the trailer, which was shown to those in attendance at last night's LA premiere of First Steps.

While we know that Disney intends to have the first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash play in front of The Fantastic Four: First Steps next weekend, there has been no word on when we can expect an online release.
Thanks to a new leak, fans no longer have to wait, as the teaser has somehow started circulating online in full HD.
The trailer is full of stunning new imagery from Pandora, and finds Jake warning his wife, Neytiri, that she can not live in "hate." It appears he eventually gives himself up or is captured by the Rda, though, as we see him being marched before a group of humans in a moment that could precede Jake's return to Earth.
The seemingly villainous Ash People are also highlighted, with a battle between their leader, Varang, and Neytiri also teased.

When the Emmy nominations came out on July 15th, the first thing I thought was: what Does Interview with the Vampire have to do to get some damn recognition?
Now, that’s not to say that there weren’t some very deserving shows that did secure nominations, of course, because there were.
But Interview with the Vampire getting shut out of all acting categories is a travesty.
(Larry Horricks/AMC)
With more television than ever before, that would mean each year you’d have the chance for new and different nominees. Or at least one would think.
As we all know, rarely is every season of a season or the performances at the top, but the Emmys tend to operate in a manner that has the same shows nabbing the top spots.

The wait for the first Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer is nearly over, as the James Cameron-directed sequel has seemingly set its sights on a late July release. However, just like its predecessor, it appears that it will not be released online immediately. Avatar fans looking forward to a new look at Fire and Ashwill have to do so in theaters in front of one of the biggest superhero movies of the year.
According to Cryptic HD, a theatrical trailer insider, the first teaser for Avatar: Fire and Ash is well on its way and has seemingly been completed. Additionally, it appears that the consensus is that it will play in front of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which comes out later this month on July 25. The timing of the trailer getting finished certainly lends credence to the belief that it will play in front of the MCU film.

When James Cameron took us back to Pandora with Avatar: The Way Of Water in 2022, he not only returned heroic Na’vi couple Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) to our screens, but introduced us to their young, extended family too. They include Sully siblings Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss), plus human Spider (Jack Champion), and Tsireya (Bailey Bass) of the water-based Metkayina Clan. After an extensive audition process, Dalton, Bliss, Champion and Bass spent years shooting The Way Of Water and upcoming third film Fire And Ash concurrently, in roles that defined their childhoods and launched their careers. Empire sits down with the quartet to dive deep into their Avatar journey.

Released in 2009, director James Cameron’s film Avatar became the first movie to officially gross more than $2 billion. Then it took him thirteen years to get a sequel into theatres, so it wasn’t clear if the follow-up was going to be able to replicate that success. But then, sure enough, Avatar: The Way of Water also grossed more than $2 billion, paving the way for not only Avatar 3, or Avatar: Fire and Ash, (which is scheduled to reach theatres on December 19, 2025) but also Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 – which will be released on December 21, 2029 and December 19, 2031, respectively. Empire has been giving Avatar: Fire and Ash extensive coverage in the build-up to the film’s release, and their latest report has unveiled a new image of the characters Quaritch and Spider! You can check it out right here:

Russell Crowe made a surprise appearance at the Mediterrane Film Festival’s Golden Bee Awards on Sunday night, returning to the island where he shot “Gladiator” more than two decades ago.
“If you want to know what I love about Malta, it’s everything,” said Crowe, who was given the Malta Film Legend Award. “26 years ago, in a funny way, I became a man in Malta,” he said, “For whatever films I had done before then, nothing had the majesty, ambition and budget and ultimately reach of ‘Gladiator.’ It wasn’t an easy production. I had to fight every day for the integrity of the character I was playing — just like the journey of the character himself in the movie. And sometimes, you get lucky enough to make something that resonates with people.”
Crowe told a story about a young man who asked him for a photo last week while he was traveling in Italy.

One of Avatar: The Way of Water's biggest shocks came when we learned that Stephen Lang's Miles Quaritch, resurrected as a "recombinant" Na'vi, was the father of Spider, a human child adopted by Jake Sully and Neytiri.
As the movie progressed, Spider was forced to come to terms with his father being a villain looking to lay waste to Pandora alongside the Rda. Despite being raised by Jake and Neytiri, he did bond with his father and begrudgingly saved his life.
However, that doesn't mean they're about to put their differences aside as father and son in this December's Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Talking to Empire Online, (via SFFGazette.com) Lang says, "They reconnect out of necessity. Their connection is not a solo connection. There are times when everybody comes together on some level. But, when enemies cooperate, you can be sure betrayal is just around the corner.

Books and TV shows have had a special relationship for over a century now. There have been countless TV adaptations of popular books, and even if we count this year (which isn’t over), there have been over seven or eight. While there have been many brilliant books that were adapted through the years, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the TV shows are also good, and that’s why we decided to compile a list of the absolute best TV shows that were based on books. As a side note, we also decided not to include Game of Thrones and Dexter, mainly because of how they ended.

One week can change your life. On March 12, 2023, Bailey Bass was on the Oscars red carpet saying that she was one week away from the start of filming AMC‘s Interview With the Vampire Season 2. On March 31, 2023, AMC and Bass announced her sudden exit from the series, citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for her departure. Delainey Hayles was announced as her replacement in that announcement. Thanks to careful recalibration from the creative team, some helping hands from showrunner Rolin Jones and stars Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, and Hayles’ ability to thrive under pressure, this became a seamless TV recasting and Hayles’ breakout role. With Emmy nominations voting underway as of Thursday, June 12, Hayles is looking back on her whirlwind casting process and carrying on Claudia’s story with TV Insider. The British actor submitted her self-tape audition on a Friday, she tells us in the video interview above.

In Avatar: The Way of Water, we met Jake Sully and Neytiri's children for the first time. However, tragedy struck when their oldest child, Neteyam, was killed while battling the Rda.
That will put the franchise's leads on a revenge mission, and filmmaker James Cameron has previously suggested their quest is what eventually brings Neytiri to Earth (a plot development we expect to see play out in the planned fourth instalment). What of the remaining kids, though?
Britain Dalton, who plays Lo'ak, recently spoke to Empire (via SFFGazette.com) and revealed where we find his middle sibling when Avatar: Fire and Ash begins. "[Lo'ak] was born to be a leader. But he’s never been given the trust," he teased. "When Neteyam dies...that’s no way that he ever imagined being finally able to be seen. He blames himself."
Tuk actor Trinity Bliss added, "I don’t think she’ll ever be the same.

Avatar: Fire and Ash plot details reveal how the Sully family has changed following The Way of Water's major death. A sequel to 2009's Avatar, 2022's The Way of Water jumps ahead 16 years and introduces Jake and Neytiri's Na'vi family, including the oldest sibling Neteyam, his reckless younger brother Lo'ak (Britain Dalton), their younger sister Tuk (Trinity Bliss), and the adopted Spider (Jack Champion). During Avatar: The Way of Water's ending, Neteyam is tragically killed during a raid on the Rda, a death that is expected to have significant consequences in the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Talking to Empire, the Avatar cast discussed how Neteyam's death will affect their characters in the upcoming Fire and Ash. When James Cameron brought audiences back to Pandora in Avatar: The Way Of Water, he upped the stakes considerably – giving Jake Sully and Neytiri a whole gaggle of Na’vi children, who had arrived in the time-jump from the first film. There was eldest sibling Neteyam, his impetuous younger brother Lo’ak, little sister Tuktirey, as well as adoptive sibling Kiri and human stray Spider. And Cameron didn’t hold back – in Way Of Water’s final act, Neteyam was tragically killed in a raid on the Rda, proving nobody is safe in the ongoing Avatar saga.
It’s a loss that will have serious ramifications in this year’s Avatar: Fire And Ash – with the rest of the Sully kids, as well as their parents, dealing with the fallout. In Empire’s latest Path To Pandora dispatch – bringing you monthly updates on Fire And Ash as the December release...

One year after Interview with the Vampire season 2 brought Louis' (Jacob Anderson) story to a close, AMC has revealed when season 3 will begin production and bring Lestat's (Sam Reid) tale to screens. The AMC series that first began in 2022 adapted the first of Anne Rice's gothic horror novels, as Louis recollected his experience in early 20th-century New Orleans, and his transformation into a blood-sucking creature of the night. Interview with the Vampire seasons 1 and 2 explored Louis's love with Lestat, his time with Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles), and his fateful meeting with Armand (Assad Zaman) in Paris.

On June 15, 2020, Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau was confirmed to be dead after having been missing for nine days. I followed this story online at the height of Covid and the Black Lives Matter protests. I combed through articles about what happened leading up to her death and the activism she engaged in while alive. My heart shattered with every word I read, not just because the details were horrific but also because I saw so much of myself in her. We were the same age, 19-year-old Black girls who dreamed of liberation for our people. And yet, a man was able to cut her life short just like that.

Avatar: The Way of Water concluded with the death of Jake Sully and Neytiri's firstborn son, Neteyam. Unsurprisingly, that's put them both back on the warpath against the Rda, and the "absolute devastation" will fuel the matriarch's actions heading into Avatar: Fire and Ash.
"That pain is seamlessly followed up on," Zoe Saldaña tells Empire Online (via SFFGazette.com). "And because it doesn’t really have anywhere to go, and doesn’t go away, rage can also come from it. [The Sullys] are going to be tested as a family."
"Not only would everything that’s happening compel her to question the bond she has with her husband," the actress adds, "but also her bond with herself, her people, her land, and the way the Na’vi are. She’s going to question everything."
However, Neytiri will supposedly "meet her match" in Oona Chaplin's Varang, the leader of the Mangkwan Ash Clan.

Avatar was a box office hit in 2009, and 13 years later, 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water was also a huge hit, grossing over $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office. Now, all eyes are on Avatar: Fire and Ash to do the same this December.

No one expected James Cameron to deliver a $2.3 billion blockbuster with an Avatar sequel that came a decade and a half after the first film. He did, and the expectations have been sky high for his next film in the franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash. During CinemaCon, Disney released the first footage from the film to the distributors.
Reports suggest that the released footage has created a buzz among the distributors with its seemingly dark storyline. Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri and Sam Worthington’s Jake Scully appear in the footage as they face off against a threat even more dangerous than the human invaders.

Are you ready to go back to Pandora?
Disney screened the first footage from Avatar: Fire and Ash for exhibitors at CinemaCon on Thursday, introduced by James Cameron in a video segment. Cameron explained that he is in New Zealand finishing the film but was pleased to share a “glimpse at the increased emotional heart and soul.”
Cameron also teased that our heroes “face not only the human invaders but new adversaries, the Ash people.”
Avatar star Zoe Saldaña then took the stage to tease the film. “Fire and Ash expands the beautiful world of Pandora and introduces two new clans, the Wind Traders and the Ash People,” she explained.
The footage opens with Neytiri (Saldaña) telling Jake (Sam Worthington), “The strength of the ancestors is here.”
Later, after the pair deal with dangerous attacks involving plenty of fire, Jake implores Neytiri to let go of her hatred: “You cannot live like this.

James Cameron revealed that his wife had a strong emotional response after watching Avatar: Fire and Ash for the first time. In an interview with Empire, the director said she watched an early cut of the film without having seen any prior footage and was deeply affected.
“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end. She had kept herself away from it, and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along,” Cameron said. “She cried for four hours. She kept trying to compose herself so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d tear up and start crying again.”
He eventually had to pause the conversation. “Finally, I’m like, ‘Honey, I’ve got to go to bed. Sorry, we’ll talk about it some other time,’” he recalled.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third installment in Cameron’s Avatar series.

James Cameron said his wife had an intense emotional reaction when she first watched his latest “Avatar” installment, “Fire and Ash.”
In a conversation with Empire, Cameron said when he first showed his wife an early cut of the sci-fi epic, she was completely overcome with emotion and could not stop herself from crying.
“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end. She had kept herself away from it and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along. This was Dec. 22,” Cameron said. “She bawled for four hours. She kept trying to get her shit back together so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d just tear up and start crying again. “Fire and Ash” is Cameron’s third chapter in his sprawling “Avatar” franchise.

The first Avatar was quite long, with a running time of 2 hours and 42 minutes, but Avatar: The Way of Water surpassed it, going on for 3 hours and 12 minutes. Now, Cameron has confirmed that Avatar: Fire and Ash will be even longer.

James Cameron has revealed that Avatar: Fire and Ash, the upcoming third installment in the Avatar franchise, will surpass the runtime of The Way of Water, which ran for three hours and 12 minutes. The director explained that an overflow of ideas during production led to the decision to shift part of the story to the next film.
“In a nutshell, we had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie two,” Cameron told Empire magazine. “The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren’t drilling down enough on character. So I said, ‘Guys, we’ve got to split it.’” As a result, he confirmed, “movie three will actually be a little bit longer than movie two.”
