Adi is a successful vlogger whose channel is his life. He’s vain, superficial, and is more concerned with his view count and subscribers than the happiness of his adoring daughter, Mia. Lee proposes that he partake in a historic challenge, in which the participant is buried alive for 3 whole days with barely enough water and oxygen to survive. Eager to outperform a rival vlogger, Adi jumps at the chance. Adi and his vlogger pal, Maz, head to the agreed meeting place, where It quickly becomes apparent that the organisers of the...

5 Deep Cut Horror Movies to Seek Out in September 2024
Image
New month, new horror recommendations from Deep Cuts Rising. This installment features five selections reflecting the month of September 2024.

Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.

This month’s offerings include an ’80s slasher, a Mexican sci-fi story, and a twisty thriller about family.

Humongous (1982)

Pictured: Janet Julian in Humongous (1982).

Directed by Paul Lynch.

Humongous begins on Labor Day (September 2) in the 1940s before flash-forwarding to the present day. Once we move into the modern era of the story (and past a rather brutal opening sequence), this Canadian production slips into familiar territory. The setting of an island is, admittedly, different than the usual school or creepy old house, but Paul Lynch’s horror follow-up to Prom Night is still formulaic.

Even so, Humongous passes for a watchable, if not low-stakes and oldfangled slasher.

Eva Green wins “painful and damaging” UK court battle over collapse of sci-fi film ‘A Patriot’
Image
In a statement Green said she was proud to stand up against “bully-boy tactics”.

Eva Green has won her case in London’s High Court against UK production company White Lantern over the collapse of low-budget sci-fi film A Patriot.

The actress sued the company for her £810,000 fee after the project was abandoned in 2019, arguing she had a “pay or play” contract.

White Lantern and lender Smc Speciality Finance bought a counter-claim against her, alleging she deliberately undermined the film’s production and that her conduct during production violated this contract.

In a judgment today (April 28), Judge Mr Justice Michael Green...

Eva Green Wins Lawsuit Over ‘Career-Killing’ Movie ‘A Patriot’
Image
Eva Green has won her lawsuit over the failed movie “A Patriot.”

The case, which centered around Green’s $1 million fee for the film, was heard at London’s High Court earlier this year. In a statement, the actor hailed the judgment and said the experience had been “painful and damaging.”

Green had claimed that under her “pay or play” contract she was was still owed her fee, which was being held in escrow by her agent, even though the movie had fallen apart.

The production company White Lantern – together with film finance company Sherborne Media Finance, which took over White Lantern once the movie fell apart – disagreed. As well as defending the lawsuit, they counter-sued Green for “conspiracy, deceit and unlawful interference,” claiming she had deliberately sought to undermine the production and cause the film to collapse so she could buy out the script and make it herself.

Eva Green Lawsuit: Producer Calls ‘A Patriot’ Director ‘Inexperienced and Starstruck’
Image
A producer on Eva Green’s failed film “A Patriot” has accused the project’s director Dan Pringle of being “inexperienced” and “starstruck.”

Jake Seal, who was brought in by financiers Sherborne Media Finance in an apparent bid to salvage the project after funding collapsed, was on the witness stand in London’s High Court on Tuesday to give evidence in the trial.

It was Seal, a producer and the owner of Hampshire-based production facility Black Hanger Studios, that Green called a “moron,” “pure vomit” and “the Devil” in private texts and emails that emerged during the pre-action discovery process. She also referred to his Black Hanger crew as “shitty peasants” and said Seal “needs to get fired.”

During cross-examination by Green’s lawyer, Edmund Cullen Kc, on Tuesday afternoon, Seal told the court of the project: “This is effectively a first-time director, very inexperienced, who has never worked with a studio before.

Eva Green Reacts to ‘Humiliating’ Text Messages Exposed During ‘Cuckoo’ Court Case
Image
Eva Green is reflecting on her leaked text messages amid the “A Patriot” lawsuit.

Green was set to star in and executive produce the shelved action film “A Patriot” before suing White Lantern Films and Smc Speciality Finance film financiers for her 1 million salary. The “A Patriot” producers countersued Green for breach of contract, claiming she never intended to star in the film.

During court proceedings, the “Casino Royale” alum stated that she refused to appear in a potentially career-threatening “B-movie” like “A Patriot” once funding was slashed after she signed on. Attorneys for White Lantern rebutted Green’s claims and argued she never wanted the film to move forward, revealing WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Green calling producer Jake Seal “pure vomit” and a “fucking moron” who should be fired, and describing other producers as “evil” and “arseholes.” Green additionally is said to have called proposed crew members “shitty peasants.

Eva Green says it has been “humiliating” to have her private WhatsApp messages read out in court.

The actor, best known for her roles in Bond film “Casino Royale” and drama series “Penny Dreadful, was in the witness stand at London’s High Court for a second day on Tuesday as part of her lawsuit against White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd. She is taking legal action against the company over a film called “A Patriot,” in which she was due to star as a soldier, before the project collapsed in 2019 having failed to secure production finance.

Green claims that under her “pay or play” contract she is still owed her 1 million fee. White Lantern – together with finance company Sherborne Media Finance – are defending the claim and counter-suing the actor for “conspiracy, deceit and unlawful interference.” They claim she repudiated her contract and undermined the production, causing it to collapse, in order...

Eva Green refused to be labeled as a “B-movie” actress and became a fallen “Patriot” per a new lawsuit.

Green was set to star in the shelved film “A Patriot” and sued White Lantern Films and Smc Speciality Finance film financiers for her 1 million salary. The “A Patriot” producers countersued Green for breach of contract, claiming she never intended on starring in the film.

Eva Green Tells Court: ‘S—y’ B-Movie Could Have ‘Killed My Career’
Image
Eva Green has told a London High Court that a low-budget version movie of a film she had signed on to make could have “killed my career.”

The actor, who has appeared in “Casino Royale” and “Penny Dreadful” among other projects, entered the witness box on Monday afternoon for her lawsuit against White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd over a 1 million fee she says is owed for a film called “A Patriot,” which fell apart in 2019 after it failed to secure production finance.

The original budget for the film, which was written and set to be directed by Dan Pringle, was set to be around 10 million. However, as the producers desperately tried to secure financing amid a rapidly changing independent film landscape the budget was slowly decreased without Green’s knowledge.

Max Mallin Kc, representing White Lantern, asked Green why she signed up to the film. Clad in a dark green velvet jacket,...

Eva Green Painted as ‘Diva’ in ‘A Patriot’ Lawsuit, Her Lawyer Says in Opening Statement
Image
Eva Green’s lawyer said a lawsuit over the film “A Patriot,” which fell apart in 2019, was designed “to paint my client as a diva […] to damage her reputation.”

Green is suing White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd for her fee for the film, totalling approximately 1.04 million, which she says is owed to her under her “pay or play” agreement. White Lantern are counter-suing, accusing Green of “fraudulently misrepresent[ing] that she was ready, willing and able to perform her contractual obligations” and that she never had any intention of playing in the film.

In legal documents, White Lantern posit that Green referred to the film’s lenders as “arseholes” and referred to one of the company’s producers, Jake Seal, as a “moron” and “pure vomit.”

Green’s lawyer, Edmund Cullen Kc, set out the actor’s case on Thursday morning at London’s High Court. Green was not in court after...

Eva Green Fires Back at Allegations That She Killed Off ‘A Patriot’ (Exclusive)
Image
“Penny Dreadful” star Eva Green has fired back at allegations made in a lawsuit lodged at London’s High Court last week, alleging that the former Bond actor derailed £4 million ($5.22 million) sci-fi thriller, “A Patriot,” in which she was to star alongside Helen Hunt and Charles Dance.

Green is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with producer White Lantern, which alleges that the production was forced to shut down when the actor walked away from the project.

A statement issued Tuesday on Green’s behalf by her lawyers, Archerfield & Partners, asserted she “totally denies” the allegations, which are described as “erroneous.” It stated that her lawyers “will be responding to [the allegations] in court papers in due course.”

“Ms. Green was at all times ready to perform her contract, and she remained willing and able to proceed in reliance thereon,” the firm claimed.

Archerfield & Partners described Green as “an actor with an unblemished professional reputation,...

Eva Green Sued for Allegedly Derailing Sci-Fi Thriller ‘A Patriot’
Image
Former Bond and “Penny Dreadful” actor Eva Green is being sued in London’s High Court for allegedly derailing a £4 million ($5.22 million) sci-fi thriller, “A Patriot,” in which she was to have starred alongside Helen Hunt and Charles Dance.

A deal was announced in May last year for Green, whose recent credits include “Dumbo,” “The Luminaries” and “Proxima,” to play the part of Kate Jones, a captain in the Border Corps of a futuristic authoritarian state. Dan Pringle was to have directed from his original screenplay.

Green, who was also an executive producer on the project, last month started legal proceedings of her own against the film’s producer, White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd. The actor said she had a “pay or play” agreement, entitling her to a £800,000 ($1.04 million) fee even though the project was abandoned. She is also seeking to have the film company pay her legal costs.

In February,...

This K-Shop Red Band Trailer Requires An Antacid
K-Shop is a horror film from director and writer Dan Pringle. Pringle found the idea for his script after watching hundreds of drunks stumble out of pubs and night clubs, in the United Kingdom. A true dilemma and one that this film fan has seen first hand, these drunks harass, fight and steal from the local food shacks. Pringle has taken this problem and found his own sinister solution: cannibalism! The first trailer for K-Shop is a good one and horror fans can find it here. To expand on the story, K-Shop takes a page from Sweeney Todd, the demon barber. Instead of a barber, an isolated kebab shop owner is tasked with serving dozens of intoxicated and obnoxious customers. Then, his dad is murdered. Now, Salah (Ziad Abaza) must find his own revenge, with what little he has. He turns on his customers and turns them into an edible meat.

Mess with the K-shop Owner, Pay With Your Life! [Trailer]
I'm rather surprised that there aren't more movies about shop owners/workers who have had enough with rude, routy and just plain mean customers. You get enough idiots coming through your door and anyone's likely to snap but Salah isn't your average guy; it takes murder to push him over the edge.

Written and directed by Dan Pringle, the UK thriller K-Shop stars relative newcomer Ziad Abaza as Salah, the son of a kebob shop owner. When his father dies from head trauma inflicted by a would-be customer, Salah snaps, decides he's had enough with assholes customers and takes matters into his own hands dealing with troublemakers in his own special way. Though the first murder is accidental, Salah is soon killing bad customers on a fairly regular basis which brings up another problem: [Continued ...]...

He goes on to say: "It is high time a socially relevant film like this was made, highlighting the significant problems of drink culture...
