‘Jury Duty’ Renewed for Season 2 at Prime Video
Image
“Jury Duty” will be back for Season 2 sooner than we think.

The Amazon Freevee comedy, which became a surprise hit for the platform and migrated over to Prime Video after the sibling streamer’s shuttering, already produced its next installment, according to media reports.

Amazon representatives declined to comment for the story.

The new season is believed to be set at a corporate retreat instead of a courtroom, according to a report from Variety. Filming took place in Los Angeles and Deadline reported the story will center around a David vs. Goliath theme.

“Jury Duty” was created by Lee Eisenberg, and Gene Stupnitsky. Season 1 followed breakout star Ronald Gladden in a documentary-style journey following his time as a juror, until it is revealed that the proceedings were fake from the start.

The series is executive produced by the pair alongside David Bernad, Ruben Fleischer (“Superstore”), Nicholas Hatton, Cody Heller (“Dummy”), Todd Schulman,...

‘Jury Duty’ Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Prime Video, Has Already Been Filmed
Image
“Jury Duty” has been summoned once again.

The comedy series, which debuted on Amazon’s now-defunct streamer Freevee as a surprise hit in 2023, will run for a second season on Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned from sources. Amazon did not comment on the renewal.

Additionally, a source tells Variety that Season 2 will be set at a corporate retreat rather than a courtroom, and that it was shot in the Los Angeles suburb of Agoura Hills. Amazon did not comment on this information.

Season 1 of the documentary-style project followed Ronald Gladden’s journey as a juror during a trial that gets increasingly more dysfunctional until it’s finally revealed that the entire case is fake and everyone besides him is a paid actor.

When asked by Variety about potential future seasons, “Jury Duty” showrunner Cody Heller said, “Obviously, it would have to be a whole different universe. You couldn’t just do jury duty again,...

‘Jury Duty’ To Return For Season 2 On Amazon; Theme Of New Installment Revealed
Image
One of the comedy breakouts of 2023 was Jury Duty, a documentary-style comedy for Amazon Freevee that featured James Marsden and other actors surrounding an unsuspecting juror at a trial. The Emmy-nominated comedy is back and — surprise — its second season is already in the can, sources tell Deadline. It will run on Prime Video where Freevee’s content migrated after Amazon’s free ad-supported streaming platform was shut down last November.

Details are being kept under wraps but we hear that the theme of the new installment is David vs. Goliath. Taking inspiration from classic 1980s movies such as Animal House and Caddyshack, it is about a small business going on a company retreat, with the real, unsuspecting person tested when a Goliath suddenly shows up, sources said.

To protect the integrity of the premise with the regular person not realizing that they are part of a scripted TV show, just...

Jury Duty Cast & Character Guide
Image
The longform comedy prank show Jury Duty features a robust cast of improv comedy performers. The lead, Ronald Gladden, was the only civilian involved, unaware that he was being pranked. X-Men star James Marsden also appeared in the show, playing a heightened version of himself.

The cast of Jury Duty is one of the most unique collections of performers on a modern television project. The Amazon Freevee comedy show, which premiered on April 7, 2023, was co-created by The Office executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who had also previously collaborated on the show Smilf. The concept of the series was to transform a prank show into a full-on longform comedy, with a loosely scripted parody trial playing out in front of a participant who was unaware that the jury duty in which he was participating was fake.

In order to maintain the ruse at the center of the Jury Duty show,...

‘Past Lives’, Celine Song triumph at 2024 Spirit Awards
Image
The rain stayed away from Santa Monica Beach on Sunday (February 25) as Past Lives was named best film and Celine Song best director at the 39th annual Spirit Awards.

While the legacy studio and streamer contenders have dominated much of the big-ticket awards shows this season like Saturday night’s SAG Awards, last weekend’s Baftas, the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, this was a good opportunity for the Oscar-nominated A24 romance and Song to earn gongs for a film which has done well among critics groups since its world premiere at Sundance just over one year ago.

‘Jury Duty’ Comedy Unveils a Trailer Ahead of April Premiere
Image
The creative minds behind The Office set their new docu-style comedy in the courtroom. Amazon Freevee’s Jury Duty, which just released a trailer, focuses on 12 jurors…but only one doesn’t realize he’s not sitting on a real jury.

“Jury Duty originated with a question: Was it possible to make a sitcom like The Office about a trial, populate it with brilliant comedic performers, and put a real person at the center of the show who doesn’t realize he’s surrounded by actors?” said executive producer Todd Schulman (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm). “We honestly had no idea, but when we pitched it to Freevee we pretended like it was a sure thing. Thank God we pulled it off.”

The Office‘s Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky created the series and serve as executive producers. David Bernad (The White Lotus), Ruben Fleischer (Superstore), Nicholas Hatton (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Cody Heller...

Jury Duty (1995)
James Marsden and 10 Actors Push 1 Juror to Question Reality in Trailer for Docu-Style Comedy ‘Jury Duty’ (Video)
Jury Duty (1995)
“Jury Duty,” the upcoming docu-style comedy series starring James Marsden as himself, explores truths stranger than fiction when one unsuspecting juror is put in a courtroom of actors for a fake case and a faker documentary.

Marsden leads the “Truman Show”-style misadventure, playing a version of himself who tries – and fails – to get out of his civic duty when the judge fails to recognize him as a public figure. In the first trailer for the Amazon Freevee series, which dropped Tuesday, other characters are seen pushing the envelope of what’s acceptable behavior in the literal court of law – while real-life juror Ronald Gladden goes about his duty being none the wiser that everything is staged.

Coming from the producers of “The Office,” “The White Lotus” and “Bad Trip,” “Jury Duty” is just the latest comedy series to blend genres of reality and scripted, following in the steps of Sacha Baron Cohen,...
