Peacemaker: James Gunn And John Cena On Season 2's Revamped Opening Credits Dance Sequence
Image
When Peacemaker premiered back in 2022, the show's hilariously bizarre opening sequence soon became one of the biggest talking points, and fans can look forward to a brand-new dance number featuring the main cast when the HBO/Max series returns for its second season this August.

Writer director James Gunn has previously revealed that the credits will be revamped for season 2, and has now given us a better idea of what to expect during an interview with EW.

Though he doesn't spill too many details, Gunn confirms that Wig Wam's "Do Ya Wanna Taste It" will be replaced by another song, and that the new sequence will feature new characters and even see Christopher Smith's feathered friend getting in on the action.

"I'll give you an exclusive: You get to see Eagly try to dance for the first time. So that's really something. He is not the best at it,...

'Peacemaker' Season 2 Features Major Dcu Cameo, Confirms James Gunn
Image
Peacemaker Season 2 is officially on its way to Max later this year, and the beloved superhero series starring John Cena is returning with a bang. The show, which is now set in the same universe as Superman, will feature a bevy of Dcu characters, one of which is a major cameo, according to the show's creator.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peacemaker creator and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn revealed that audiences should expect to see a lot of Superman and Dcu influence in Season 2. This extends to what he described as a "really, really big cameo" that happens near the season finale. Is David Corenswet's Superman making an appearance? It's certainly possible, if Gunn is to be believed. Check out his quote below, which also reveals that the "Quantum Unfolding Chamber," as seen in the trailer, will be the central focus of Peacemaker Season 2.

"You've seen what we call the Quc,...

Peacemaker Season 2 Will Feature a New Opening Dance Number
Image
Every episode of James Gunn's Suicide Squad spin-off series Peacemaker begins with a now-iconic dance number featuring a deadpan John Cena and the rest of the cast and set to Wig Wam's "Do You Wanna Taste It." Even as the show earned rave reviews upon its debut in 2022, the sequence became a viral hit as fans delivered their own renditions and Gunn shared instructions for how to replicate Christopher Smith's smooth moves. Norway's brightest stars even got in on the fun, performing the dance at the Gullruten Awards. Before Cena grooved his way into the public conscience, however, Alan Tudyk stood in to "give peace a dance" during early choreography.

How Friends Saved TV Show Theme Songs
Image
A new book explains how the iconic Friends intro helped save TV theme songs. Although the Friends cast wasn't especially fond of their show's opening sequence, partly because it wasn't much fun to film, the "I'll Be There for You" song by The Rembrandts helped set the tone for a sitcom that has gone on to have a huge legacy. But far from just helping to shape the NBC series throughout its ten seasons, the song played a role in changing how executives approached other series.

The legacy of Friends' opening sequence is discussed in Music for Prime Time: A History of American Television Themes and Scoring, a new book by writer Jon Burlingame. In the chapter on sitcoms, it's mentioned that there was a push to move away from themes and extended openings in both the comedy and drama space. In an excerpt from Variety, Michael Skloff, who composed...

The Best Songs on the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Soundtrack
Image
This post contains spoilers for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Even more than bringing beloved characters such as Rocket Raccoon and Peacemaker to the big screen, James Gunn is famous for soundtracks. The Awesome Mixes were highlights of both Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and the arena rocker “Do You Want to Taste It” by Wigwam made Peacemaker a viral hit. So when Gunn announced that he was making a holiday special with the Guardians, expectations were high for the all-time greatest collection of Yuletide hits. And, boy, does the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special exceed expectations.

The special finds Peter Quill feeling down because he’s stationed on Knowhere with a bunch of non-Terrans at Christmastime. While no one else on the team really knows or understands Christmas, not even new member Cosmo the Spacedog (voiced by Maria Bakalova), they all pitch in to create the Yuletide spirit.

10 Memorable Musical Moments in 2022 TV, So Far
Image
Should every TV show be a musical?

Maybe, depending who you ask (Yasper from “The Afterparty” we suspect is strongly in favor). There’s no denying the power of musical numbers, scores, opening credits, or just the right needle drop to propel a television scene from enjoyable to legendary. Moments like this were so bountiful in 2022 that IndieWire decided to pick the best ones as we comb through the best of this TV year so far. Below, in order of premiere, are the most memorable musical moments from 2022 TV.

1. “Peacemaker”: Opening Credits

It’s been a wondrous year for opening credits, none more bizarre and perfect than “Peacemaker.” James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” spinoff had a tough job with its HBO Max debut, spotlighting one of the only white male characters from the 2021 film and making a case, somehow, for the floundering DC Extended Universe.

But “Peacemaker” did that and more,...
