Penn Badgley Podcrushed Interview: Watch Video of Joe Goldberg and You Season 5 Survivors
Image
Sometimes, when Youprotagonist Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is in charge of your education, you end up framed for murder, like the unfairly imprisoned Darcy College student Nadia Fareedi (Amy-Leigh Hickman). But, for Badgley, Joe has proven to be an invaluable teacher — in exactly how not to move through the world.

“Joe has helped me understand what it means to be a man, a husband, and a father at a deeper level,” he tells Tudum. “I’ve had to understand, not only just the obviously atrocious ways that he represents men, or husbands, or fathers. But also the small sins that we’re all guilty of.”

Badgley gathered with co-stars Charlotte Ritchie (who plays Kate Lockwood), Madeline Brewer (Bronte), Tati Gabrielle (Marienne Bellamy), Hickman, and Anna Camp (Reagan and Maddie Lockwood) on his podcast Podcrushedto discuss all of Joe’s transgressions. The group, joined by Badgley’s co-hosts Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari,...

‘You’ Star Tati Gabrielle Talks Giving Closure to Marienne With Season 5 Return: ‘She Is Still Strong’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “You” Season 5, Episodes 9-10.

With “You” closing out its final season by finally seeing Joe Goldberg’s heinous crimes catch up to him, it was only fitting for Tati Gabrielle’s Marienne to return to help serve some up justice, which Gabrielle said offers Marienne some much-needed closure after the events of Seasons 3 and 4.

“As we do with trauma, when we try to heal, we try to do all the things, and I think particularly Marienne, is one that has been very intentional with healing her traumas just over her lifetime, so this being an exceptionally hard one … how do you work through that?” Gabrielle told TheWrap, adding that Marienne likely has been working through the trauma of being drugged, kidnapped and kept in a cage by Joe (Penn Badgley) throughout the entirely of Season 4, alone.

In Season 5’s penultimate episode, Marienne returns alongside...

Goodbye, ‘You’: Show Bosses on Penn Badgley’s ‘Horrific’ Finale Moment, [Spoiler] Returning and Wanting Viewers to See Who Joe Really Is: ‘He’s a F—ing Monster’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “You,” now streaming on Netflix.

Joe Goldberg is finally in a cage for good, and not the one of his own making. In the series finale of Netflix’s stalker-rom-com-thriller “You,” Joe, Penn Badgley’s charismatic serial killer, gets his long-overdue comeuppance at the hands of his former victims, who join forces to put him behind bars once and for all.

When we pick up with Joe at the beginning of Season 5, he’s happily married to the uber-rich Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie), who’s used her family’s sizable resources to snatch Joe’s son Henry (Frankie DeMaio) from the adopted fathers he was dumped with at the end of Season 3 after Joe flees Northern California, having murdered Henry’s (also murderous) mother, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). Now that Joe has returned to New York City a free man,...

‘You’ Season 5: Kate’s Involvement in Joe’s Downfall Wasn’t a Coincidence, Don’t Misjudge Her Impact
Image
You didn’t have to end this way! The hit thriller’s season 5 just dropped on Netflix, and it’s a wild ride that manages to stay true to its roots while throwing in some unexpected twists. The bloody, chaotic conclusion to Joe Goldberg’s journey is both shocking and, honestly, inevitable. After all the love, obsession, and murderous mayhem, we finally get answers about Joe’s fate and what becomes of his long trail of blood.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers for season 5 finale ahead

But here’s the thing: You’s final season didn’t just wrap up Joe’s story. It turned the mirror on us—the audience—accusing us of indulging in his twisted exploits. It seemed like the writers were calling us out for watching, for enjoying the “eat the rich” narrative, and still somehow overlooking the fact that, yeah, Joe’s a misogynistic serial killer.

How ‘You’ Season 5 Bosses Crafted Joe Goldberg’s Final Takedown
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “You” Season 5, Episode 10.

While “You” has seen Joe Goldberg’s murderous habits take him to some very dark, gruesome places, Penn Badgley and showrunners Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo knew the Netflix series’ fifth and final season had to find the character at his “most horrific.”

“We were all about trying to make Joe see what he is,” Foley told TheWrap. “We were about waking the audience to what they were co-signing all this entire time, and that meant him being his most animalistic, not pulling any punches and not falling in love with him so hard that we forget what we’re really trying to say here and what he is.”

Whereas past seasons saw Joe narrowly escape his indiscretions relatively unscathed, the showrunners went into Season 5 planning knowing it was the end of the road for “You” after receiving a renewal...

Omg, Bronte is so frustratingly delulu in You season 5 episode 8 (Review)
Image
Folie à deux is a psychiatric syndrome where a delusional belief is transmitted from one person to another. And the title of You season 5 episode 8 is exactly that, and so fitting. Bronte is making me frustrated, and she's absolutely delulu. Like, all of this cannot just be love. Let's get into our review of the episode on Netflix. Spoilers Below.

You. Amy-Leigh Hickman as Nadia Farran in episode 407 of You. Cr. Courtesy of Netflix © 2023 Nadia needs some convincing

At the end of episode 7, we saw that Kate has gone to London and wants Nadia's help in taking Joe down. Understandably so, Nadia doesn't want anything to do with Kate. She and Joe are the ones who got her in prison in the first place, after all. Nadia also reveals to her that Joe is the Eat the Rich Killer, basically murdering all of Kate's friends. Yeah, that's not the type of news you get everyday.

‘You’ showrunners break down Joe’s fate in the series finale: ‘Nobody wanted to redeem him’
Image
Warning: The following story contains details about the fifth and final season of You, streaming now on Netflix.

Hello, you. Joe Goldberg's reign of terror has come to an end. Did you get what you wanted?

The fifth and final season of Netflix's adaptation of You brought Joe (Penn Badgley) back to New York for one last murderous romp — and a taste of his own medicine.

With the help of Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), Joe was able to move home, resume living under his true name, and even take custody of his son. But true to form, that's not enough for him, and soon enough he has a new obsession in Bronte (Madeline Brewer), whom he finds breaking into his bookstore and then takes under his wing (and eventually into his bed). But Bronte isn't who she says she is. Of course, that's not her real name, but the truth...

Is Jenna Ortega in ‘You’ Season 5?
Image
With the fifth and final season of “You” bringing back many demons of Joe Goldberg’s past, all eyes have been on whether the Penn Badgley-led series could bring back Jenna Ortega as well.

Ortega, who is best known for starring in Netflix’s “Wednesday,” appeared in “You” Season 2 as 15-year-old Ellie Alves, whose older sister, Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) was killed by Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). The end of Season 2 saw Joe giving Ellie money to leave Los Angeles in the wake of her sister’s death, leaving the door open for a potential return.

While several loose ends from Joe’s past show up in “You” Season 5 — including Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) and Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) — Ortega was not among the show’s past cast members who returned for the last season.

Showrunners Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo, who took the torch from co-creator Sera Gamble, told TheWrap in...

After five seasons and a big old pile of dead bodies in each one, serial killer and self-described romantic Joe Goldberg, the character made famous by noted Swiftie Penn Badgley on the Netflix series, has finally been held accountable. So how did we get here?

We reunite with Joe in the season 5 premiere when, thanks to his wealthy and powerful wife Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie) — who he met and wooed while pretending to be a professor named Jonathan Moore — he's back in New York City and reclaiming his real name. Joe first left the Big Apple after the show's debut season due to the fact that he murdered a bunch of people there, including his then-girlfriend Guinevere Beck, played by Elizabeth Lail...

Here's How Many People You's Joe Goldberg Has Killed
Image
This article contains discussions of child abuse and suicide.

Stop reading this right now if you haven't finished all of "You" — spoilers are coming!

The fifth and final season of "You," the Netflix series that lets noted Taylor Swift fan Penn Badgley play a serial killer convinced he's actually some sort of white knight, is finally out ... which means we can finally assess Joe Goldberg's (Badgley) body count. No, I don't mean how many people Joe has dated throughout the series; I'm talking about how many people he's killed.

In case you've forgotten exactly what went down in the show's first four seasons, here's the overview. Joe Goldberg, who presents himself as a hopeless romantic but actually seems to love murder much more than he loves love, had a very difficult childhood; his biological father abused both him and his mother, and ultimately, a young Joe shoots and kills him.

What will Joe's fate be in You season 5?

The biggest question we're all wondering of course is what will Joe's fate be by the end of the series? How does it all end? Will Joe finally go to prison and will his crimes come to light? Perhaps people from his past will be able to take him down and kill him instead. There's also the possibility that he does not face any justice at all and continues to somehow get away with all he's done.

The end is nigh for Joe Goldberg. After four seasons of stalking, killing, and pretentiously monologuing, his reign of terror is almost over. Netflix has renewed "You" for a fifth and final season, putting an end to our obsession with Penn Badgley's bookish serial killer.

"You" season 5 will also mark a change of showrunners. Series co-creator Sera Gamble originally developed "You" with Greg Berlanti and ran the show for its first four seasons. While Gamble will remain involved as an executive producer, she will be stepping back from the final season to work on other projects. In her place, executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo will share showrunning duties. In a statement, Gamble said:

Netflix has renewed You for a fifth and final season and promises fans will receive a satisfying “killer” ending to Joe Goldberg’s story. While Netflix did confirm the charismatic serial killer will return to wrap things up, the streaming service didn’t provide any hints as to what’s in store for Joe.

Sera Gamble, who developed the series with Greg Berlanti and served as showrunner for the first four seasons, will be stepping back from showrunner for the final season.

“As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I’m immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix. Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors,...

‘You’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season
Image
Joe Goldberg’s long, horrific reign of terror is finally coming to an end. Less than a month after the conclusion of its fourth season, “You” has been renewed for a fifth season at Netflix, which will be its last.

In addition, the Penn Badgley-led thriller will be under new management for its final outing; Sera Gamble, who served as showrunner for the show’s first four seasons, will depart the series. According to Netflix, Gamble is leaving to work on other projects. In her place, show writers and executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo will serve as co-showrunners.

“We are so incredibly grateful to Netflix and Sera and everyone that has been a part of this show from the beginning. Sera is the most brilliant writer and partner and she will remain a key part of the ‘You’ family as an executive producer,” Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter,...

Tati Gabrielle at an event for Captain Marvel (2019)
‘You’ Star Tati Gabrielle Says Marienne Wants ‘Justice, Not Revenge’ for Joe in Potential Season 5
Tati Gabrielle at an event for Captain Marvel (2019)
Note: The following discusses major spoilers for “You” Season 4, Part 2.

After narrowly escaping the grasp of Joe’s psychotic break, Tati Gabrielle would “definitely love” to return as Marienne in a potential “You” Season 5 and take care of some unresolved business.

“Marienne’s story feels still feels unfinished, and [it] still feels like she has something else that she needs to see through,” Gabrielle told TheWrap. “I don’t think that Marianne is a vengeful person, so I think that she would want justice not necessarily revenge.”

By the end of Season 4, Joe (Penn Badgley) is convinced Marienne is dead after she fakes an overdose by taking pills to slow her heartbeat. The pills were provided by Nadia (Amy Leigh Hickman), Joe’s perceptive and ambitious student, who discovered Marienne’s imprisonment after connecting the dots of Joe’s suspicious identity.

After finding Marienne seemingly lifeless body on the floor of the cage,...

Joe's New Power In You Season 5 Teased by Penn Badgely
Image
Warning: This post contains spoilers for You season 4, part 2!Penn Badgley teases the new power Joe will have in You season 5. What began as a potential conflict between him and Rhys Montrose (Ed Speleers), believed to be the “Eat the Rich” killer, quickly became something much more complicated in You season 4. When the first half was released, Joe also appeared to stop chasing Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), adjusting to a new life in London under the identity of Jonathan Moore. In the end though, he proved to be just as dangerous as ever, and given how things played out, he could get away with it all.

The question of whether Joe will be brought to justice was raised after the You season 4 finale, but putting a stop to him may be more difficult now. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Badgley reveals that his character has a “power” he never had before,...

Who Could Bring Down Joe In You Season 5? Netflix Showrunner Teases Returns
Image
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for You season 4The question of who could bring down Joe Goldberg in You season 5 has been addressed by showrunner Sera Gamble. With its second half now streaming on Netflix, You season 4 altered the course of the series in a major way. While it's unclear how much Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) actually knows about the past of Joe (Penn Badgley), she has the resources and the PR team to help clean up his image. More concerning still, Joe doesn't seem to have much guilt about committing crimes and doing what he believes is needed to protect himself.

But in new comments shared with TVLine, Gamble reveals that Joe isn't in the clear yet. The co-creator and showrunner reveals that the writers have kept track of anyone that knows the truth about Joe, sharing details about some of them, and making clear that the lead character...

Penn Badgley Unpacks the Major Twist of ‘You’ Season 4
Image
[The following story includes major spoilers for You season four.]

Joe Goldberg has not turned over a new leaf.

In fact, he’s been tricking You viewers as the unreliable narrator of the hit Netflix serial killer drama.

Part 2 of season four pulled off a major twist: Joe hasn’t exactly been himself this season. When returning after the Part 1 release with the final five episodes of the split season, the final moments of episode seven, “Good Man, Cruel World,” revealed that this season’s villain isn’t Rhys Montrose — it’s actually Joe (Penn Badgley).

When Joe is led to the real Rhys by Tom Lockwood (Greg Kinnear), the father of Joe’s season romance Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), You‘s resident stalker-murderer thinks he’s killing the man who has been tormenting him for the last few months. But in reality, Joe kills a man he’s never even met. In a series of flashbacks, the audience learns that...

You Season 4 Ending Explained: Know Thyself
Image
This article contains spoilers for season 4 of "You."

Knowledge is power and in prior seasons of "You," it's also half the fun of the show. The audience has always been afforded a front-row seat to the inner workings of Joe Goldberg's (Penn Badgley) twisted mind. While everyone else is fooled by his charm, tricked by his lies, and blind to the red flags that he barely manages to hide, we get to revel in every word of his chilling narration. From start to finish, we've watched Joe formulate his fantasies and stalk his way into the hearts of unsuspecting women. We know that he haunts corners, peers through windows, and strangles enemies. We literally know where all the bodies are buried. Or so we thought.

In the second half of season 4, we learn that something has changed. Since coming to London, Joe hasn't always been honest with himself — which...

As an underwhelming follow-up to You’s season 3 finale, the Netflix show’s fourth season brings its stalker/serial killer, Penn Badgley’s Joe Goldberg, to the heart of the London elite and a murder mystery. In You season 4, episode 5, Rhys Montrose (Ed Speelers), an aspiring mayoral candidate and part of London’s rich clique, finally reveals himself to Joe as the Eat the Rich killer. As teased in You season 4 part 2’s trailer, Rhys wants a...

‘You’ Season 4 Part 2 Trailer: Joe Makes a Dangerous Friend
Image
In the new trailer for “You” Season 4 Part 2, the question lingers: Will Joe (Penn Badgley) ever find redemption?

He’s been hunted like an animal, ridiculed for his class, nearly framed for murder — and that’s just since arriving in London. Joe wants to change, for real this time (he says that every time), but now he’s in the crosshairs of Rhys (Ed Speleers), an aspiring politician who hates the wealthy even more than Joe does.

Badgley made recent headlines with his comments about wanting fewer sex scenes in the series, out of fidelity to his wife and a desire to not get pigeonholed into romantic or sexually intimate roles. The Part 2 trailer shows him bonding once again with Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), but Joe has been trying to keep his distance in order to protect her.

After unmasking Rhys as the Eat the Rich Killer in Part 1, Joe is trapped,...

You Season 4: Victoria Pedretti Returns as Love in Explosive Part Two Trailer
Victoria Pedretti
Ever since You Season 4 touched down on Netflix earlier this month, fans across the internet have been asking for one thing:

Love Quinn-Goldberg.

Victoria Pedretti was a series regular for two seasons, but her arc came to a dramatic close at the end of You Season 3 when Joe killed her and made it look like she'd murdered him, too.

Their relationship was toxic, but every single interaction is just that on this show.

Thankfully, Pedretti is set to reprise the role in the second half of You Season 4, premiering March 9 on Netflix around the globe.

We have to imagine the big return will be more of a ghostly presence as Joe continues his mission to take down the "Eat the Rich" killer.

Joe was the hunter on the show's first three seasons, but the hit thriller switched things up by making him the hunted for the fourth season.

If the trailer teases anything,...
