Anurag Basu’s latest film Metro… In Dino has garnered rave reviews from both critics and audiences. The feel-good romantic drama currently holds an impressive user rating of 7.8/10 on IMDb. The anthology features four bittersweet love stories centering on Indian couples navigating relationships across five bustling metro cities.

On the opposite end of the genre spectrum lies a film that also explores relationships, but through a much darker and more disturbing lens. An overlooked gem that still packs a punch, we’re talking about Dibakar Banerjee’s 2010 found-footage anthology Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. Love, Sex Aur Dhokha – Plot & Cast

The hard-hitting anthology film features three different but subtly intersecting stories, each exploring the themes of love, sex, and betrayal in urban India.

There are some films that seduce us with starkness. Rahul Dahiya’s G Kutta Se in Haryanvi and Hindi is not one of them. This extraordinary film derives its unhampered persuasive powers not from posturing but from ripping apart all our perceptions of what cinema is and should be, by entering the nervous system of a patriarchal community where women are still not given the right to choose their partners.

And even if they are, this is a right men can snatch away at will.

Sex, says debutant writer-director Rahul Dahiya is used in gender-challenged societies to negotiate the spaces that divide men from women and to bring the women to heel, preferably spiked. On more than one occasion a man is seen forcing himself on a woman arguing she has nothing to lose if she has sex with him.

The women’s will is not just secondary , it is often non-existent.

In Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Dibakar Banerjee created a digital world resorting to desperate measures. His characters are ordinary people extraordinarily challenged by the sheer obligation of day-to-day living. While these characters-social ‘mess’-fits symptomatic of a new materialistic ‘muddle’ class-record all their moves and action on self-operated cameras the director records their stories without overt cinematic interventions. This is where the film’s main problems propped up. The director’s vision is so unified with the way the characters see themselves that a section of the audience may feel it’s watching a hugely self-indulgent work that wants to keep the ‘cinema’ out of the cinema. Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 was released in theatres on April 19, 2024. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, it is a sequel to the 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha. The movie is produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures and Cult Movies. The first part featured Rajkummar Rao, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Anshuman Jha, Neha Chauhan, Ashish Sharma and Amit Sial. For the sequel, the makers had a new cast and a different topic. The film received mixed reactions from critics.

The movie stars Paritosh Tiwari, Bonita Rajpurohit, Abhinav Singh, Swastika Mukherjee, Mouni Roy, Uorfi Javed, Swaroopa Ghosh, Piyush Kumar, Rahul Raj, Tanvika Parlikar, and others. Director Dibakar Banerjee co-wrote the story with Shubham and Prateek Vats.

TV czarina Ektaa R Kapoor and director Dibakar Banerjee will be appearing on the ‘Weekend Ka Vaar’ episode of ‘Bigg Boss 16’ and the buzz is that they will be making an announcement of their next movie, ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2’.

It is going to be a sequel to 2010 movie, ‘Love, Sex Aur Dhokha’, starring Anshuman Jha, Nushrat Bharucha, Rajkummar Rao, Neha Chauhan, Amit Sial, Herry Tangri and Ashish Sharma. The film highlighted realistic issues such as honour killing, Mms scandal and sting operations and it received positive response from the audience.

Now, the director, known for his films such as ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ and ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky’ has collaborated with Ekta again for the sequel to one of his successful projects and they will be making announcement on the reality show.

There is also a rumour that Ekta has roped in Priyanka Chahar Choudhary and Sumbul Touqeer for her next project.

Exclusive: Kunal Nayyar, star of The Big Bang Theory, is heading the cast of Aditya Bhattacharya’s A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, an English-language crime drama shooting in India and Los Angeles.

Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes), Lance Reddick, Alex Brendemuehl and Neha Chauhan also star in the film, about a rich young slacker who is sent to Los Angeles to sign over a family building to a Russian conglomerate following his father’s death. After refusing to sign the papers, he finds himself up against rogue cops and the Russian mob.

“It’s an American crime drama with an Indian protagonist and you never see that,” Nayyar told Screen. “I’m known for playing a nerd so this was an opportunity to show a different facet of what I do.”
