'American Primeval' Fans Need to Revisit 'Bone Tomahawk'
Image
Netflix's new Western series American Primeval has quickly become one of the platform's biggest hits of the moment, holding the number one spot on the streamer for several days before being dethroned by another bloodbath, WWE Monday Night Raw. Written by The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith and directed by Deepwater Horizon's Peter Berg, the series unflinchingly plunges viewers into the brutally violent world of the American West circa 1857, a time frequently mythologized and often toned down by Hollywood.

While many westerns offer a more sanitized view of 19th Century frontier life, others have been willing to go there before American Primeval hit the scene. One of the best examples from recent years can even be found on the same platform, just a click away after the final episode: 2015's Bone Tomahawk. Written and directed by S. Craig Zahler in his directorial debut, the film is more sparing...

'The Boys' Antony Starr's 'Banshee' Is a Streaming Success on Max
Image
Before donning a cape and becoming a paragon for supervillainy as Homelander in The Boys, once upon a time Antony Starr played a sexually irresistible criminal impersonating a sheriff in the Cinemax series Banshee. Despite the last episode of the show airing in 2016, the series has found a bump in interest on streaming as the hyper-violent crime thriller is now in the Max Top 10 TV charts.

Co-created by Jonathan Tropper - who also created Warrior and the upcoming Apple TV+ series Your Friends and Neighbors - Banshee is the story of an ex-con who assumes the identity of a deceased incoming sheriff to Banshee Pennsylvania. Under this new identity of Lucas Hood, the fake sheriff attempts to reconnect with his former lover, dodge the attacks from a powerful crime lord, all while dispensing his own brand of small-town justice. It's a wild ride with splashy action that doesn't ground itself too deeply in reality.

The Boys Star's Crime Thriller Series With 90% Rt Score Becomes Streaming Hit
Image
The Boys has been a major success for Prime Video with its depiction of an alternate reality in which superheroes abuse their powers. The superhero satire premiered in 2019 and returned last year for season 4, with the upcoming The Boys season 5 now confirmed to bring the show to an end. The show is beloved for its collection of despicable and deplorable characters, with Antony Starr's Homelander being the biggest and baddest Supe of all.

Starr, a New Zealander, was a series regular on Outrageous Fortune, which ran from 2005 to 2010, before going on to appear in projects like Rush, Tricky Business, and Guy Ritchie's The Covenant (2023). Starr's most notable role before joining the cast of The Boys, however, was as the lead of an acclaimed crime thriller TV show that ran on Cinemax from 2013 to 2016. This show is now finding success once more on streaming.

10 Awesome Action TV Shows With Fast-Paced Fight Scenes
Image
Many great action series feature the best TV show battle scenes, and modern fight choreography has been getting faster and more engaging than ever. Whether they're live-action or animated, these TV series utilize fight sequences that keep the audience guessing and provide plenty of dynamic movements, often making them lauded as the most successful within the action genre. However, these fights only land on the viewer and are treated as impactful parts of the story if audiences care about the characters and if the fight sequences work to drive the plot forward.

When TV battle scenes aren't accurate to real life, this can take the viewer out of the story, but this isn't the most important piece of an action series. Many audience members aren't familiar with the ins and outs of technical aspects and are most concerned with whether or not the visuals are compelling. Fight scenes don't necessarily...

5 Years After Lost, Matthew Fox Headlined This Western Horror With 91% on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
It's been nearly a decade and a half since the TV phenomenon known as Lost came to its conclusion, and even though not all the show's cast members have managed to maintain that same level of brightness in the spotlight that the show had once allowed them, some have gotten extremely lucky. When fans think of the show's most successful cast members, names like Evangeline Lily and Daniel Dae Kim are sure to come to mind. However, even though Matthew Fox has taken an extended hiatus from acting, it's impossible to deny that he, too, has certainly had one of the most successful post-series finale careers. While his acquired film credits are small, they've been pretty impressive, from We Are Marshall to Speed Racer. It's Bone Tomahawk (the last major film he appeared in), however, that has become arguably his most popular one.

With the American Western having made an...

'That's Really the Reason': Terrifier 3's Five-Year Time Jump Explained by Director
Image
The Terrifier films took wild swings to flip the tropes of the slasher genre. Terrifier 3 doubled down on the effort but kept at least one story element's believability.

Director Damien Leone teased long-term arcs for Terrifier's villains and protagonists. Terrifier 2 subverted the final girl trope by turning Vicky (played by Samantha Scaffidi), the lone survivor of the first film, into a villain of the series. Lead actors Elliott Fullam and Lauren Lavera also return as siblings Jonathan and Sienna Shaw after killing Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), who was yet again resurrected in the mid-credits scene. Leone told Screen Rant that he wanted a two-month gap between the events of Terrifier 2 and 3, but he opted for a five-year time jump to maintain the narrative's consistency.

The Overlooked Kurt Russell Western That Stephen King Recommends
Image
Stephen King might not typically be the person folks look to for Western movie recommendations, but the horror legend took to Twitter/X recently to recommend an overlooked Western starring the always-great Kurt Russell. King has written some stories that are Western-adjacent, especially his "The Dark Tower" series, but generally his work is in a very different genre. The movie he recommended, however, totally makes sense, because it's probably the most horrific Western ever made.

The Western King recommended was "Bone Tomahawk," S. Craig Zahler's 2015 film that stars Patrick Wilson as Arthur O'Dwyer, whose wife Samantha (Lili Simmons) has been kidnapped by the terrifying "Troglodytes," a group of cannibalistic cave people. Russell plays Sheriff Franklin Hunt, who gets drawn into helping O'Dwyer with a ragtag group of townsfolk, including bloodthirsty lawman John Brooder (Matthew Fox) and the town's doctor, Deputy Chicory (Richard Jenkins). They head out to find Samantha...

Stephen King Praises Gruesome Western with Kurt Russell
Image
Stephen King, the author responsible for horror bestsellers like The Shining, It, Pet Sematary, and Carrie, among others, is no stranger to the appraisal of horror movies. His latest endorsement was for Bone Tomahawk, the Western horror film directed by S. Craig Zahler, which he has called "well worth watching." Using his usual channel of communication, his X account, King wrote a few words of appreciation for the film that, in 2015, shocked every viewer who saw it. The reason? Let King tell you in his post.

King took almost eight years to claim his love for the film, but it's never too late for cult horror films that feel as original as Bone Tomahawk. He was also quite clear about the film's noteworthy gory scene. In his post, the horror author says:

Bone Tomahawk: I was expecting nothing but a time-passer on a rainy Wednesday morning, and got a low-budget Western epic.

I'm Worried About Power Book IV: Force's Ending After New Spinoff Announcement
Image
Power Book V: Origins may lead to Tommy's death in Force's final season, causing worry and concern. Tommy's potential death would ruin his perfect Power ending and leave a massive hole in the franchise. Keeping Tommy alive for Origins could be more interesting and leave the door open for a future return.

After the announcement of a new Power spinoff, Power Book IV: Force is officially coming to an end, and I'm worried about its conclusion. Starz revealed a new spinoff titled Power Book V: Origins is in the works which will focus on Ghost and Tommy's backstory before the main series. Although some of their history was touched on in the main series and the prequel show, Raising Kanan, the franchise clearly feels there is more to tell with this story, and while I am excited about this new spinoff, Power Book IV: Force's cancelation has me worried about its ending.

Power Book IV: Force's Cancellation Reminds Me Of Another Starz Underrated Drama's Demise
Image
Power Book IV: Force's cancellation is part of the Starz cost-cutting effort, hinting at concerns about the franchise's future. Power Book IV: Force's cancellation is reminiscent of Starz ending Hightown after season 3. Despite the cancellation, there's still hope for closure with Power Book IV: Force season 3.

The untimely cancellation of Power Book IV: Force reminds me of the demise of another underrated Starz drama. Given the success of the Power franchise overall, I'm shocked such a well-watched show is ending. However, the decision to end Power Book IV: Force is part of a cost-cutting effort across Starz. With fellow spinoff Power Book II: Ghost season 4 also serving as the end of a franchise chapter, I'm concerned about what this means for the Power brand.

Given that the original Power universe kicked off almost a decade ago, I knew it was inevitable there would be a point at which some unpleasant...

Neon is opening Origin on 130 screens and plans to expand the Ava DuVernay film, which premiered in Venice and had a excellent qualifying run in December.

Neon took global rights on Origin before its Venice premiere where it received an eight-minute standing ovation and DuVernay became the first Black American woman to have a selection there. This 2015 Kurt Russell Movie Is A Stealth John Wayne Remake (Before Turning Into A Horror Movie)
Image
Kurt Russell's Bone Tomahawk plays like a stealth remake of John Wayne's The Searchers. Russell previously starred in TV Western The Quest, itself an unofficial Searchers riff. Bone Tomahawk shows the violence that was impossible to depict in Wayne's The Searchers.

A Kurt Russell Western from 2015 is a secret remake of John Wayne's The Searchers. While the genre itself was largely out of fashion during his movie star heyday, Kurt Russell has still become a Western icon of sorts. This is largely thanks to playing Wyatt Earp in 1993's Tombstone, which has become a classic over the years. In 2015, he returned to the genre once again with The Hateful Eight, which was Quentin Tarantino's dark Western about a group of violent strangers trapped together in a snowy cabin.

Even the likes of Russell's sci-fi actioner Soldier is a Western in disguise, with the story being a thinly veiled riff on Shane.

Why Power Book IV: Force Killed Off One Of Its Biggest Villains & What It Means For Season 3
Image
Killing off Walter Flynn in Power Book IV: Force was the right decision, as it allowed other antagonists to become more crucial to the plot and amplified their presence. Walter's death enabled Vic and Claudia Flynn to have better stories, allowing them to become more independent and follow individual paths. Power Book IV: Force has evolved beyond the Flynn family, with other storylines taking precedence in season 2 and little room left for their involvement in future seasons.

The Power universe has had multiple spinoffs and its most successful one, Power Book IV: Force, killed off one of its biggest villains in season 2. Often, shows can collapse after getting rid of key antagonists, but in Force's case, it proved to be the right decision and sets up season 3 to be even more exciting. Power Book IV: Force focuses on Tommy Egan trying to take over the drug game in Chicago after...

25 TV Shows With the Most Nudity
Image
Shows with the most nudity are widely discussed for their raunchy content and boundary-pushing. American broadcast networks face FCC regulations on nudity, but premium networks like HBO are known for it. Popular shows like Game of Thrones and Euphoria feature graphic sex scenes and nudity, becoming less shocking over time.

The shows with the most nudity are among the most widely discussed in the history of TV, as many of them have caused a stir due to their raunchy content or pushing of boundaries. While in recent years nudity has become fairly regular on the small screen, the shows with the most nudity stand out for the notable amounts of nakedness. The first time American television audiences saw nudity in a scripted show came in 1973 with the quick shot of a male butt in M*A*S*H. By the 1980s, many shows began experimenting with female nudity, and eventually,...

15 Actors Who Almost Played Catwoman In Live-Action Movies
Image
In a variety of live-action adaptations, DC's Catwoman has been portrayed by ten actors, but many more almost played the antihero opposite Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman. Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, debuted in DC Comics back in 1940's Batman #1, originally depicted as a supervillain to Gotham City's Caped Crusader but later was shown to be an antihero and Batman's longest-running love-interest. Since then, several other DC characters have taken up the moniker of Catwoman, including Holly Robinson and Eiko Hasigawa, and the character has been adapted into a variety of live-action and animated media since the 1960s.

Alongside the Joker, Catwoman is the most regular supporting character to Bruce Wayne in live-action Batman stories, first being introduced by Julie Newmar in 1966's Batman TV series, though she would later be replaced by Eartha Kitt, and Lee Meriwether for the 1966 Batman feature film, based on the series. Since Newmar debuted as Catwoman,...

Image
After much anticipation, "Power Book IV: Force" is finally returning for season two this fall, and according to series star Joseph Sikora, it'll be a real treat for "Power" fans who've been following the franchise since the very beginning. "We're going back to the roots of 'Power,'" he reveals to Popsugar. "We're hitting the streets hard, we're figuring out where things exist in Chicago in real time. I think that the audience is going to have a fun time discovering places."

In addition to more explosive action, Sikora teases that season two "feels very organic," crediting showrunner Gary Lennon (who served as an executive producer on "Power") for a "tremendous job of expanding our world and relating how real Chicago, specifically how Latino culture here in Chicago, would be; how it presents it very truthfully and expands our South Side and North Side gangs."

"I think the audience...
