Brad Pitt’s Only Movie After Se7en in Roger Ebert’s Perfect List Belongs to a Trilogy
Image
In Roger Ebert’s Great Movies List, there are approximately 365 movies that range from classics like Lawrence of Arabia to retro-futuristic steampunks like Metropolis. Among them, Brad Pitt takes up considerable space for two of his iconic movies that were filmed 11 years apart: Se7en (1995) and Babel (2006).

Although it is quite self-explanatory why Se7en would find a place in Ebert’s list, the same cannot be said about his other film, Babel, which never received the kind of universal popularity and cult classic status like the David Fincher crime thriller. Despite being a masterful rendition of Chaos Theory, the tragedy of life, death, and redemption, Babel hardly finds the recognition that it is worthy of.

It is high time movie buffs and cinephiles took notice of Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s greatly misunderstood and highly underrated film, constructed as part of a beautiful, though at times confusing, series of films known as the Death Trilogy.

Denzel Washington Once Turned Down A 7-Oscar-Winning Film Because Of A New Director — & He Still Regrets It Years Later!
Image
Denzel Washington Turned Down 7-Oscar-Winning Role In Michael Clayton (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Denzel Washington is rarely wrong when it comes to picking roles. But when Michael Clayton landed in his lap back in 2007, he blinked. And he’s still haunted by it.

In a GQ interview, Washington didn’t hold back: “It was the best material I had read in a long time.” But despite loving the script, he passed. Why? The director, Tony Gilroy, was untested at the time. “I was nervous about a first-time director,” Washington admitted.

Big mistake.

The role of Michael Clayton eventually went to George Clooney. And Michael Clayton didn’t just work, it exploded. The sleek legal thriller pulled in seven Oscar nominations and cemented Clooney’s legacy as more than just a pretty face in a suit. For Washington, watching it all unfold was, well, tough.

30 Years of Se7en: These 10 Movies Are Just as Dark and Brilliant
Image
Has it really been 30 years since Se7en messed up our heads and made us terrified of cardboard boxes forever? David Fincher’s grim, rain-soaked descent into the mind of a serial killer didn’t just redefine crime thrillers; it reprogrammed our brains to expect dread around every dimly lit corner. It’s a movie that dares to ask, “What’s in the box?” and then slaps you in the face with the answer.

However, here’s the thing: while Se7en is a modern classic, it’s not the only film that knows how to twist your guts and leave your soul feeling like it needs a shower. Over the decades, a handful of other movies have managed to channel that same bleak brilliance, stories soaked in moral decay, obsession, and psychological trauma. These films make you clench your jaw, lean in closer, and sometimes…look away.

So if...

Brad Pitt Reveals How ‘Se7en’ Saved His Life After Working With Tom Cruise Sent Him Into a Spiral
Image
Before Se7en made Brad Pitt a revered actor in cinema and launched his iconic partnership with David Fincher, he was struggling, both personally and professionally. Pitt had just wrapped Interview with the Vampire, a movie that paired him with Tom Cruise, which would eventually spark their rumored feud.

Now, both of them are established superstars, with Cruise delivering back-to-back action blockbusters and Pitt doing more dramas and plot-heavy films. So let’s look at their rivalry and how Se7en became the turning point for the latter’s career.

It’s not like Brad Pitt wasn’t already on the rise before he signed Se7en, but things weren’t so smooth behind the scenes (reported via The Wrap). On the Armchair Expert podcast, the actor told...

Se7en Turns 30: Brad Pitt’s Best Thriller Inspired 63% Rt Denzel Washington Movie That Felt Wasted
Image
Se7en is David Fincher’s timeless classic, and its influence can be felt in most crime thrillers that came after it, for example, Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie’s starrer, The Bone Collector. The two movies feel like they belong to the same universe, but ultimately, the latter felt short.

The Phillip Noyce directorial feels like a shadow of a masterpiece released just four years earlier because both movies have grim crime plots, twisted killers, and neo-noir aesthetics. Despite their similarities, only one of them became a defining entry in the thriller genre and remains one of the most critically revered movies of all time.

"It Was the Most Unhealthy Time": Brad Pitt Says This David Fincher Thriller "Reinvigorated" His Passion for Acting
Image
Although he's currently gearing up for his high-octane F1 to race into theaters this week, Brad Pitt's mind was recently on one of his most iconic films that will soon be celebrating its 30th anniversary — Se7en. The bleak 1995 crime thriller from David Fincher helped cement Pitt as Hollywood royalty, pairing him up with Morgan Freeman as the short-tempered detective David Mills, who was tasked with tracking down the twisted serial killer John Doe (Kevin Spacey). Before Fincher came calling, though, the star was feeling listless in his career despite finding success. He opened up about the Oscar-nominated mystery film in the most recent episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, sharing how it helped motivate him in what he deemed the "weirdest summer" in 1994.

"It was the most unhealthy time," he told Shepard and co-host Monica Padman. In the lead-up to Se7en, he had already racked up...

Henry Cavill's 2019 Sleeper Hit Has Become a Must-Watch Action Thriller on Streaming
Image
A long-forgotten crime thriller from Henry Cavill’s past is suddenly one of the hottest tickets on streaming — and no, it’s not The Witcher or Man of Steel. The 2019 action flick Night Hunter has clawed its way into the Top 10 on Paramount+, earning a second life after years of obscurity. According to FlixPatrol, Night Hunter is currently ranked #8 on Paramount+’s Top 10 movies chart, bolstered by a surge in viewership across South and Latin America. The David Raymond-directed film has been sitting comfortably in the streamer’s regional Top 10 lists throughout the past week — not bad for a film that made just $1 million at the global box office and got roasted by critics.

Originally titled Nomis, the film stars Cavill as Detective Walter Marshall, who’s investigating a string of kidnappings tied to a deeply unsettling online predator. What begins as a standard procedural morphs into something far more sinister,...

When Se7en’s Original Ending Was Almost Scrapped, Here’s How Brad Pitt & David Fincher Saved It
Image
Se7en Movie Original Ending Fight(Photo Credit –Netflix)

David Fincher’s Se7en, if seen from a modern lens, stands not only as a defining work in the director’s career but as one of the most enduring American thrillers ever made. While Fincher, Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and even Kevin Spacey tend to steal most of the spotlight in public memory, the film owes its entire existence to the quiet brilliance of Andrew Kevin Walker. His name may not echo as loudly as the stars, but without him, none of it would’ve existed.

Andrew Kevin Walker: A Career Hinged On One Script

Walker had no significant credits to his name back in the early ’90s. Se7en was his big leap, a script written out of frustration during his time in New York and crafted with a raw edge that sliced through the typical Hollywood formula.

It wasn’t...

David Fincher Might Not Like ‘The Studio’ Making Fun of His Directing Method That Brought Amanda Seyfried Her First Oscar Nomination
Image
Known for the innate ability to roast its own, Hollywood spares no one. Seth Rogen’s The Studio is a classic example of a satire parody, and it takes many a dig at some of the most prestigious names in the industry.

With David Fincher’s ferociously perfectionist approach mocked in the show, one can’t help but wonder how fair it is. After all, he is the one who gave several actors their career-defining roles, one of the biggest examples being Amanda Seyfried in Mank (2020).

The Bone Collector stars a paraplegic Denzel Washington whose acting circles around his co-stars with just his face and 1 working finger! And despite being targeted by Dateline obsessed Moms (mostly thanks to a young Angelina Jolie) this dang movie also has: melted faces, people eaten by rats, creepy severed fingers, and a death cab for cuties on a one-way ride to a shallow grave. 1 of David Fincher's Best Films Almost Had the Worst Ending (& He Fought the Studio to Save It)
Image
The following contains spoilers for Se7en. Proceed with caution.

Today and despite one of its star's falls from grace, Se7en is rightly considered to be one of the best crime movies ever made. Directed by David Fincher and written by Andrew Kevin Walker, Se7en was so good and groundbreaking that it redefined what Neo Noir movies and serial killer stories should be in a decade when hard-boiled fiction was suffering from oversaturation. The movie's famously nihilistic ending cemented its legacy, but believe it or not, Se7en almost had a happier but worse conclusion.

As the story goes, Fincher signed up to helm Se7en because he was so impressed by Walker's dark script. This, despite claiming he'd never direct a movie again following his horrible experience with Alien 3. However, New Line Cinema actually sent him Walker's original draft. They then sent the director the updated script,...

The Real Reason Denzel Washington Didn't Star In David Fincher's Se7en
Image
When Denzel Washington agreed to star in 2001's "Training Day," his casting attracted some controversy. The issue, it seems, was that the esteemed actor had never played a villain at that time, and the NAACP was adamant that he not squander the good will he'd accumulated over the past decade or so by doing so. For Denzel, however, showcasing his diverse talent overrode any obligation to maintain his clean cut public image, and the star not only proved he was more than capable of playing an antagonist, but won his second Oscar for the effort. All of which makes one wonder about a parallel universe version of Denzel's career — one in which he agreed to play a lead role in David Fincher's "Se7en" back in 1995.

Would the NAACP have objected to Washington starring in what Brad Pitt told the LA Times was "the feel-bad movie of '95"? Fincher's...

Denzel Washington Says He 'Blew It' by Turning Down This $327 Million Thriller (& He's Right)
Image
Denzel Washington has been one of the most successful Hollywood actors for nearly five decades. From the iconic Malcolm X to Training Day, Antwone Fisher to Fences, this incredibly versatile actor knows how to avoid being pigeonholed by certain character types. Washington thrives on challenges and frequently returns to the theater to keep his acting muscles as active as possible. In February, Washington will take on the title role in Othello in Shakespeare's classical play, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal as Iago at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway.

But despite all his deliberate choices, there is one movie he regrets declining. Years ago, Denzel had a casual interview with Jamie Foxx on YouTube for Grey Goose Vodka, and the comedian asked the legend if there were any project he wished he would have done. Washington took only a few seconds to reply with: Se7en. Washington explained that when he read...

The 15 Best Movie Endings Of All Time, Ranked
Image
As Rick and Ilsa taught us all too well on that fateful runway, there are few things more powerful than a heartfelt farewell. To provoke applause from the audience -- or, better yet, that stunned and contemplative silence as they watch the credits still submerged in the final moments of a story well told -- it is critical that a film nail its ending.

Whether through the unveiling of some mind-blowing twist, a sudden insight that changes the way you see the story, or a simple but powerfully human moment earned between two characters, the last sequence of a movie has the capacity to shape your understanding of all that came before -- in and out of the theater. As such, we've taken great care in compiling some of our favorite movie endings of all time, ranking them based on quality, impact, and cultural staying power.

Wild Se7en Theory Claims Fincher's Thriller Is Secretly A Superhero Villain Origin Movie
Image
There are some details about David Fincher’s Se7en that aren’t explicitly revealed, and one made way for a theory that claims this movie is secretly a superhero villain origin movie from a famous superhero universe. Shortly after making his directorial debut with the sci-fi movie Alien 3, David Fincher paid a visit to the crime thriller genre with Se7en. Written by Andrew Kevin Walker, Se7en didn’t perform well with critics during its initial release and was a sleeper hit. However, Se7en is now regarded as one of the best movies of the 1990s, as well as one of Fincher’s best works.

Set in an unnamed, crime-ridden city, Se7en follows Detective Lt. William Somerset (Morgan Freeman), who, one week before he retires, is partnered with young detective David Mills (Brad Pitt). Together they investigate a series of disturbing murders inspired by the seven deadly sins.

‘Se7en’ Looks, Sounds, and Plays Better Than Ever 30 Years After Its Release
Image
When David Fincher directed “Se7en” in 1995, his reputation was strangely bifurcated. On the one hand, he was a supremely successful commercial and music video director at the top of his field, having helmed innovative and influential shorts for icons including Madonna, Sting, and Rick Springfield. On the other, his one attempt at feature filmmaking, “Alien 3,” had been a bust — a critical disappointment liked by virtually no one, including Fincher himself. Although it has since developed a bit of a cult following, Fincher disowned “Alien 3” and famously said that he’d rather die of colon cancer than direct another movie.

Luckily for him, and for us, Fincher changed his mind when he came across Andrew Kevin Walker’s script for “Se7en,” a perfectly calibrated blend of intellectual philosophizing and pulpy exploitation that ended up beautifully served by Fincher’s unerring ability to push the psychic trauma the story inflicted...

David Fincher Explains Why His Remake of '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' Didn't Happen
Image
The last few days have been pretty busy for David Fincher. Se7en, his outstanding crime thriller of 1995, is turning 30 this year, and with that comes a re-release in theaters where fans will see a 4K restoration of the movie. However, the director of films like Mank and Fight Club is also using the opportunity to debunk and confirm projects. This time, Fincher addresses his remake of the Disney live-action classic of 1954, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Fincher remaking a Disney feature? As weird as that sounds, the project was on schedule for some time in the early 2010s, with Fincher pitching the movie to Brad Pitt for the role of Ned Land, played by Kirk Douglas in the Disney version. The project vanished at some point, though it probably had to do with the lukewarm reception Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo received in 2011.

The director spoke to Letterboxd...

Review: David Fincher’s Serial Killer Thriller ‘Se7en’ on Warner Home Video 4K Uhd
Image
By 1995, David Fincher was an acclaimed music video director whose studio-micromanaged and -mangled foray into feature filmmaking (1992’s Alien³) proved so exasperating and humiliating that he nearly swore off of making full-length movies ever again. But upon being sent a script about a serial killer who commits a series of gruesome, elaborately staged murders, Fincher found himself sufficiently intrigued to take on the project but only if New Line Cinema didn’t compromise the bleakness of the material. He got his way, and a filmmaker seemingly bound to retreat from Hollywood subsequently emerged as one of its brightest stars of the decade.

Set in an unnamed city so crime-ridden, paranoid, and rotting at the seams that it makes Batman’s Gotham look like Xanadu, Se7en would be bleak and unsettling enough even if it dealt with everyday crime. But the crimes that veteran detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and newly...

Why David Fincher Used AI to "Enhance" Classic Thriller's 4K Release
Image
David Fincher, the director of the 1995 groundbreaking horror thriller Se7en, says artificial intelligence was an essential part of the film's 4K restoration, which is currently playing in theaters for the 30th anniversary of the movie. He calls the use of AI "revelatory."

Fincher spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the 4K remaster of the film's original print, a process he was deeply involved with. The 1995 film turns 30 this year, and fans can get their hands on a beautifully restored version of the movie on 4K Uhd Blu-ray Discs and digital starting January 7. IMAX theaters are also showing the movie for the first time with a pristine cut that Fincher has approved. What will surely impress some viewers is that Fincher has required the use of AI for difficult tweaks that the film apparently needed:

"I know that there are a lot of people who tend to bag on digital, but if...

Se7en Director Finally Reveals What Was Really in That Box 30 Years Later
Image
Se7en's cult following had a pretty good idea of what Detective David Mills learned was in that box toward the ending. As for what was really in the box, director David Fincher revealed what they really put inside of it before filming, debunking a longstanding rumor.

Se7en director David Fincher dismissed reports that the film's mystery box contained a prosthetic replica of Gwyneth Paltrow's head. "It's entirely ridiculous," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I think we had a seven- or eight-pound shot bag. We had done the research to figure out, if Gwyneth Paltrow's body mass index was X, what portion of that would be attributable to her head. And so we had an idea of what that would weigh, and I think there was a weight in it."

'That Became My Edict': David Fincher Reveals 1 Big Lesson He Learned From Alien 3's Failure
Image
Alien and Aliens confirmed a franchise was building, but that momentum was dashed by a divisive third film. Director David Fincher explained how Alien 3 made him the avant-garde filmmaker he is today.

Alien 3 has its cult following, but the film is largely panned as a disappointing sequel in the series. David Fincher was reserved when speaking about his experience directing that film, but he confirmed reports the project was doomed from the beginning. Speaking to Variety, Fincher said Alien 3 was a lesson he wouldn't forget. That film went off the rails under his watch, and he vowed not to make the same mistake again. "I look at it this way. On Alien 3, I stopped after that movie looking for permission and I would much rather ask for forgiveness," he said. "So that became my edict. And Se7en, on the page, could have gone a lot of different ways.

'This Isn't Se7en': David Fincher Recalls Studio's First Reaction to Zodiac
Image
The Killer, Gone Girl, Se7en, and Alien 3 prove David Fincher's mastery of the slow-burn movie. He explained why he did the same with Zodiac's decades-spanning story.

Director David Fincher didn't want to make "another Se7en" when he pitched Zodiac to studio executives. The latter didn't like Fincher's concept at the outset. "I remember when we showed the film to Warner Brothers and they were like, 'This isn't Se7en.' I was like, 'Oh boy,'" he told Variety. Fincher helmed four slow-burn films at that point; Zodiac shared Se7en's story beats but belonged to different subgenres. "I don't even know if Zodiac really is a, I mean, certainly it's about a serial killer, but it's really, it's a newspaper movie at its marrow," he confirmed.

David Fincher Wanted Ned Beatty, Christopher Guest for 'Se7en' Villain
Image
Se7en, the deeply disturbing serial killer film from director David Fincher, is turning 30 this year. While you silently cry over how many years have passed, here's an awesome detail that Fincher has just confirmed: Kevin Spacey wasn't his first choice to play the cold-blooded killer, John Doe. As it turns out, another, much different Hollywood legend was his first pick.

Fincher spoke to Variety about the film's upcoming 4K restoration, and he used the opportunity to reminisce about making such an important film in his career. Alien 3 had opened to terrible reviews, and three years later, Fincher was still feeling the effects of an industry that had turned its back on him. Fortunately, it all worked out for the best, as Se7en shot him into stardom as one of modern cinema's most interesting auteurs.

SE7EN Director David Fincher Has Finally Revealed What Was In The Box: "It's Entirely Ridiculous..."
Image
Se7en is once again playing in theaters - this time with a new 4K remaster - and that means we'll soon be forced to relive those traumatising cries of "What's in the box?"

As we're sure you're aware by now - the movie was released in 1995, after all - the serial killer drama ended with Detective David Mills (Brad Pitt) and Detective Lieutenant William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) being led to a remote location by the evil John Doe (Kevin Spacey).

To complete his twisted plan, Doe is revealed to have murdered and beheaded Mills' pregnant wife, placing her head inside the aforementioned box. With that, the grief-stricken cop guns the killer - "envy" - down, becoming "wrath" in the process.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly (via ActioNewz.com), Se7en director David Fincher revealed what was really in the box by debunking the long-held belief that it was a prosthetic...

Se7en Ending: David Fincher Settles Longtime Rumor By Revealing What Was Actually In The Box
Image
Se7en director David Fincher has revealed what was actually in the box when they were filming the ending of the iconic thriller movie. The story of Se7en follows two detectives, David Mills and William Sommerset, who are tracking a serial killer who is targeting people that he believes represent one of the seven deadly sins. The shocking ending of Se7en shocked moviegoers when the film was released in 1995, and has stayed with people ever since. The cast includes Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kevin Spacey.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fincher addresses the rumors that a prosthetic head or entire body of Paltrow was created when filming the ending of Se7en. Fincher dismisses this rumor and confirms that they simply figured out how much Paltrow's head would have weighed and placed a weight in the box. The director also argues that a prosthetic head...

Spoilers ahead for “Squid Game” Season 2.

Every good story needs a good villain, and the second season of “Squid Game” has no shortage of those. But one flashy bad guy stands a bit taller than the rest. It’s time to meet Thanos, the purple-haired rapping agent of chaos responsible for some of this season’s biggest shocks.

Like the actor who plays him — T.O.P. — Thanos is a famous rapper in the real world. Thanks to his nearly endless supply of drugs, he plays the games unlike any other player, often dancing, cheering and hitting on young women as the players around him cower for their lives. He brings an unhinged jolt of energy to this retread of a well known story.

Whether you’re completely new to the world of K-pop idols or just wondering how this character came to be, TheWrap has you covered.

David Fincher's Iconic Neo-Noir Is Getting an IMAX Re-Release
Image
David Fincher fans will get a chance to see one of his best in the coming months. His 1995 noir thriller, Se7en, is set to hit IMAX in January. Fincher’s early collaboration with Brad Pitt features the actor as David Mills, a cop new to a crime-ridden city under a perpetually overcast sky. Paired up with a jaded veteran detective, William Somerset (Morgan Freeman), the two have to stop the brutal killings of a serial killer inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins. Pitt would later star in Fincher’s cult classic film, Fight Club, only a few years later, but Se7en was one of his first critical successes and has gone on to be remembered in its own right. While the story is undoubtedly bleak, it was a masterclass in the detective genre, marking Fincher as a filmmaker to watch out for.

Keanu Reeves' 'The Watcher' Earned Him an Undeserved Razzie Nomination
Image
Quick Links Keanu Reeves Makes for an Interesting Serial Killer Universal Pictures Worked Out a Deal With Keanu Reeves

A serial killer thriller and Keanu Reeves might seem like an odd match, but it makes for an intriguing experience with The Watcher, released in 2000, and apparently, a film that Reeves might want audiences to forget. His reasons may have more to do with a story about being tricked into making the film rather than his work in it, but once you cut through some of the controversy, The Watcher is a bit better than its reputation, which also includes a Razzie Award nomination for Reeves.

Directed by Joe Charbanic from a screenplay by David Elliot and Clay Ayers, The Watcher follows an FBI Special Agent named Joel Campbell (James Spader) who is consumed by guilt after he is moments too late to save a young girl from an elusive serial...

The Head Stays In The Box: Brad Pitt Fighting For Se7ens Most Iconic Scene Saved The Movie And Made David Fincher's 1995 Thriller A Classic
Image
In 1995, the crime horror movie, Se7en, shocked audiences with its violent ending, yet this iconic final scene might never have happened if it wasn't for the movie's star, Brad Pitt. David Fincher's movie, Se7en, tells the story of a retired detective and newbie teaming up to solve a string of horrific murders. The men soon discover that the crimes are being committed by a sadistic serial killer who is targeting those he believes represent the seven deadly sins. Close to his tail, the detectives start to realize that this killer may be smarter than they thought possible.

Arguably, Se7en has one of the most shocking endings in recent movie history. Morgan Freeman's Somerset and Brad Pitt's Mills are about to apprehend the serial killer Doe, when Mills receives a disturbing package in a simple cardboard box. The camera never actually shows what's inside the box, but...

Fight Club Cast & Character Guide

Fight Club is a cult classic movie with an unforgettable cast. Its plot revolves around an unnamed narrator on the verge of a breakdown, suffering from insomnia, and going through a series of unfortunate events. After befriending a puzzling soap salesman, the two invest their time in a shocking new form of therapy between men, which quickly spirals out of control.

Directed by David Fincher, one of the most talented names in the thriller genre, the movie perfectly adapts the book of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk, although the two Fight Clubs have completely different endings. Much of its success is thanks to its star-studded cast portraying the many distinct characters in its story.

Denzel Washington Turned Down A Role That Would Have Reunited Him With Morgan Freeman After 95% Rt War Movie
Image
Denzel Washington is one of our most accomplished actors who has worked alongside other legendary A-listers, but, sadly, we missed out on seeing him reunite with one of them, Morgan Freeman, when he turned down Se7en in the '90s. Denzel Washington has earned his title in Hollywood as one of the best actors of his generation. Over four decades, Washington has shown his incredible range as an actor, and Denzel Washington's upcoming movies will be just as powerful. Still, even he has had some missed opportunities over the years.

A prominent project Washington turned down was David Fincher's 1995 classic thriller Se7en, which followed two detectives hunting a serial killer who commits murders based on the seven deadly sins. Washington ultimately declined because he thought the script was too dark and demonic. Although he later regretted his decision, 1995 was still an eventful year for Washington, with three films released: Crimson Tide,...

Denzel Washington once turned down a leading role in a massively successful thriller, but if he had taken the part, it would have been completely different. 9 Things We Learned from the ‘Longlegs’ Commentary Track
Image
The highest-grossing independent film of the year, Longlegs stars Maika Monroe as an FBI agent in pursuit of the titular serial killer, played by Nicolas Cage.

Among the special features on the just-released physical media editions is a refreshingly forthright audio commentary by writer-director Osgood Perkins.

Here are nine things I learned from the Longlegs commentary track.

1. Perkins considers Longlegs a “pop horror movie.”

Perkins refers to the film as a “pop horror movie” several times in the commentary. “By that, I mean that it’s a horror movie that knows it’s a horror movie,” he explains. “There’s supposed to be sort of a modern quality to that.”

Referring to the opening credit sequence, he says “These big, red squares at the beginning of the movie feel ‘pop’ to me. Josef Albers is always an inspiration for things that are visual. Warhol. These big, red squares at the...

The massive and disturbing twist that ends the film cemented its pop culture relevance with even people who haven't seen the movie aware of the ending. Gwyneth Paltrow To Star Opposite Timothée Chalamet In A24’s ‘Marty Supreme’
Image
After a few years away from the big screen, Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love) is back, as we’ve learned that she’s set to star opposite Timothée Chalamet in A24’s new film Marty Supreme directed by Josh Safdie.

The project will feature her first substantial film role since Avengers: Endgame back in 2019.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the pic has been reported as being loosely inspired by pro ping pong player Marty Reisman. At the same time, sources close to the production stress that it’s a fictionalized original, rather than a biopic. It’s unclear for the moment who Paltrow will be playing.

Safdie and Ronald Bronstein penned the script and will produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24.

For Safdie, who saw A24 produce and/or distribute his and brother Benny’s acclaimed films Uncut Gems and Good Time,...

20 Thrillers That Had Perfect Endings
Image
Thrillers rely on subgenres for compelling storytelling. Perfect endings elevate thrillers to lasting impact. Outstanding films like "Prisoners" and "Se7en" master suspense effectively.

Thriller movies are, by definition, compelling and intense, but when they pull off the perfect ending, that takes it to another level. Thrillers are designed to stir up emotions in the audience. Whether that is excitement, anxiety, or exuberance, their purpose is to connect with the audience, and make people care about what's happening on screen.

Often, thriller movies rely on the subgenres that they include in order to effectively do this. From crime, to horror, and everything in between, the result of the combo is usually more compelling than any of the individual parts. But it could all fall down if the ending doesn't live up to the rest of the story. When a movie gets the ending just right, it can stick with the audience for life.

What is your favourite Brad Pitt movie?
Image
Is Brad Pitt one of Hollywood's most underrated talents? He's extremely talented but doesn't seem to be discussed when the Greatest Ever conversations come round. But Pitt has made great movies in almost every genre, is a particularly underappreciated comedy actor, and has a Golden Age star quality that means he's still a bankable brand. Fight Club has to be up there, but Burn After Reading is just as great, and his straighter turns in both Fury and Se7en are high points. What's your pick?...

“I will do it on one condition”: Brad Pitt Was Ready to Quit Movie Starring Kevin Spacey if Studio Didn’t Meet His Demand Against Director’s Wish
Image
Brad Pitt is known for his work in an array of genres, that cemented him among the high-profile Hollywood actors. Among his projects, his 1995 crime thriller, Se7en remains a highly acclaimed work that catapulted the actor to more serious, dramatic roles. While the entire project continued to give off spooky vibes, one cannot help but agree that the unseen movie ending remains one of the most unsettling sequences.

Brad Pitt in Se7en (1995)

The film director, David Fincher wanted to elevate the gore element in the last sequence but the actor meddled to keep things just like what we witnessed in the final cut. He even added a certain clause before signing the project to keep Fincher from making any changes later in the movie.

From the plot to the performances and technical aspects, several aspects helped the film to be critically and commercially successful. However, one of the primary highlights of the film was its ending. Se7en‘s harrowing conclusion is still discussed heavily among pop culture enthusiasts.

Interestingly, Brad Pitt played a vital role in framing Se7en‘s ending. The Fight Club star ensured two non-negotiable conditions in his contract that did not let the makers change the ending midway.

David Fincher Would Choose “Having cigarettes put out in my eyes” Over a Sequel to $327M Morgan Freeman Cult-hit

There are many classic films with David Fincher’s name on them. From Gone Girl to Fight Club, there is not a movie he has made that managed to escape the hearts of fans. In the direction Hollywood has recently been taking, there are more sequels than there are original films.

Out of all the films that the director has made, there is one that he would do the worst over if it meant to make a sequel. Some projects are best left as is and he understands that more than anything. One mustn’t milk the cow beyond its capabilities.
