Chained Soldier Season 2 plans were initially revealed when the first season concluded back in March 2024. Now a quick update has arrived via the official website, which confirms that the second season has a new director, character designer and studio attached. The new director is Masafumi Tamura, who takes over for season 1 director Goro Kuji. Keiya Nakano ( Keijo!!!!!!!! ) is the new character designer in place of season 1's Hiroyuki Yoshii, and Passione is now on animation production. The first season was animated at Seven Arcs. Over the course of his career, Eichiro Hasumi has been making quite a name for himself directing entertaining genre features, even though the majority of them is somewhat forgettable. Apart from “Assassination Classroom: Graduation” he is perhaps best known for this entries into the “Resident Evil”-franchise, “Infinite Darkness” and the upcoming “Death Island”, which cemented the reputation of the animated entries of the franchise being in many ways superior to the lukewarm features by the likes of Paul W.S. Anderson. In between these last two projects, he directed “re:member” (also known as “Re/Member”), which was released on Netflix, and which is his take on the horror genre, blending ideas from J-horror, the slasher genre and time travel movies.

On July 5th, Asuka (Kanna Hashimoto) meets a young girl at her high school. She has never seen the girl before. The young girl tells her “My body, Sagashite.” Later on, Asuka does not feel comfortable with the girl. When it turns midnight, Asuka finds herself at school again. She is not the only person there. Her childhood friend Takahiro and four of her classmates are there. Asuka is not friends with her four classmates. At that time, a young girl covered in blood appears and kills everybody there. Asuka believes she is dead. Asuka wakes up and finds herself in her room. She is surprised that is the morning of July 5th.

Films about the sex clubs in Tokyo and the “underworld” that usually surrounds them come out pretty frequently from the Japanese movie industry. Yosuke Okuda tries to make a difference in the genre by introducing some additional elements while stripping his movie completely from sex and nudity, in a effort, though, that ends up particularly faulty.
