Frontières Winner ‘Freya’ Takes on ‘Extreme’ Pro-Birth Future: ‘If This Was Happening to Men, There Would Be World War III’
Image
Rhona Rees is ready to shock with “Freya,” set in the near future where abortion is completely illegal and contraception is only available to men.

“That’s what I like about sci-fi. If we show an extreme future that’s still preventable, it will allow us to start a conversation,” she says.

“I get really emotional when I talk about it. It’s unbelievable, the way we are sliding backwards in human rights, because women’s rights are human rights. If this was happening to men, there would be World War III.”

Now in development, “Freya” was recently awarded at Frontières, winning PurpleDOG Post’s post-production prize worth Cad$ 10,000. Kristyn Stilling and Athena Russell produce for Freya Films.

Rees has already explored a similar universe in a 2020 short directed by Camille Hollett-French, which she wrote and starred in as Jade, pregnant after a one-night stand. Suddenly, the government-mandated AI assistant,...

EuiJeong Hong’s South Korean thriller Voice Of Silence has won the 25th anniversary edition Fantasia International Film Festival’s Cheval Noir award for best film.

Hong’s film follows a mute low-level gangster tasked with taking charge of an 11-year-old kidnapped girl from a wealthy family. The jury described Voice Of Silence as “impossible to pin down, and truly idiosyncratic. Put simply, it’s unlike anything we’d seen before”.

‘Kingdom Come’ VOD Review
Stars: Ry Barrett, Camille Hollett-French, William Foley, Jason Martorino, Soroush Saeidi, Katie Uhlmann, Jo Jo Karume, Chelsey Marie, Ellie O’Brien | Written by Greg A. Sager, Geoff Hart, A. Jaye Williams | Directed by Greg A. Sager

It’s been two years since Greg A. Sager made his directorial debut with The Devil in Me (aka Devil Seed), a slice of demonic Canadian terror that made my Top 10 films of the year list and I’ve been eagerly awaiting his follow up ever since. Well now the wait is over as Kingdom Come, another superb supernatural horror from the Great White North, hits DVD and VOD across North America.

Starting out in a similar vein to the original Saw movie, Kingdom Come sees a group of strangers wake up disoriented in a seemingly abandoned hospital. However unlike that franchise, this group of strangers soon find themselves being stalked by a supernatural force with sinister intentions.

All Hell Breaks Loose in Greg A. Sager's Kingdom Come: First Trailer
Greg A. Sager was the director of possession thriller Devil Seed. Devil Seed was a rehash of several Exorcist tropes, which was not well received by this critic. However, everyone loves a comeback. And, Sager is returning to horror with his next title, Kingdom Come. Kingdom Come is a mysterious story. Several strangers find themselves trapped in a mental health hospital, after being abducted. While gathering their wits, they are assaulted by all manners of demons and ghostly entities. Why were they chosen and more importantly, how will they escape? The first trailer for Kingdom Come was released late last month. This film fan missed the debut of this clip and other horror fans might have missed it, too. The official trailer for the film is here, for fans of the supernatural. Release Date: March 17, 2014. Director: Greg A. Sager. Writer: Geoff Hart, Greg A. Sager and A. Jaye Williams.
