Marvel confirms Captain America 3 for the same date as Warner Bros' Batman Vs Superman. Who's going to blink first?
Well, unless someone blinks first, this is going to be a showdown and a half. Now that Captain America: The Winter Soldier has opened to huge numbers around the world, Marvel has confirmed what was rumoured the other week: it's going to open Captain America 3 against Batman Vs Superman.
When Warner Bros put Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel sequel back from its 2015 release date to a new opening on May 6th 2016, it knew that was a date earmarked for an untitled Marvel project. The assumption was that Marvel would move away from said date, but buoyed by the success of the new Captain America movie, it's done quite the opposite, and has firmly thrown the gauntlet down to Warner Bros instead.

Man, what the hell happened with this movie? This one could've been a new comedy classic. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone has a cast of capable comedic actors playing new and old school Vegas magicians, which sounds like a perfect recipe for splitting the sides of audience members wide open. The over-the-top goofiness of stage conjurers and the laughable edginess of "street" magic are ripe for satire, but even so, Burt Wonderstone is an uneven comedy that see-saws between perfectly tolerable and hysterical. Will Warner Bros.' Blu-ray release win over our home video hearts? Find out after the jump. Steve Carrell plays the "incredible" titular character, Burt Wonderstone. The film begins with a bittersweet flashback to Burt's sad youth. After using his wits to escape some bullies, Burt runs home to an empty house. It's his birthday and not only is his mother absent, she didn't have the decency to pick him up a cake,...

Yesterday, word broke that Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead's former showrunner) was going to pen a prequel to The Shining entitled The Overlook Hotel.
There was plenty of speculation as to which direction the prequel could turn. The obvious choice: Focus on Delbert Grady. But that's a bit too obvious and we know how that story ends - with the murder of his wife and twin daughters (not that "knowing how something ends" has stopped a prequel from being made before). Will Warner Bros. roll with the brutal axe murder of two little girls? Or, does Mazzara have something fresh up his sleeve? Something that sheds some more like on the sinister hotel?
Regardless of whatever Mazzara's approach is, Stephen King is sort of "meh" on the whole thing.

With Christopher Nolan's trilogy of Batman movies now complete, what's Warner Bros. doing about passing on the Gotham City torch to the next filmmaker? Officially no one is speaking for the movie studio. While The Dark Knight Rises earned a commanding $448 million dollars domestically at the box office, WB is opting to not discuss what plans (if any) it has for the next Batman movie.

The future of Batman on film is very uncertain. With DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. launching a Justice League movie in 2015, and The Dark Knight Rises effectively closing the door on that iteration of Batman, how we next see the Dark Knight onscreen is still a mystery. We know that he’ll be part of the Justice League roster, but what age he’ll be, and who will play him, are big looming questions in need of answers.
No doubt there are still people out there who wish that Dark Knight Trilogy architect Christopher Nolan would return and help usher the DC movie universe to greatness – but that’s not going to happen. And Nolan himself is once again letting it be known why The Dark Knight Rises is officially his last Batman film.

The Angus T. Jones spoofs are coming fast and furious, and the latest to pay tribute to the candid Two and a Half Men star is Matthew Perry. A little more polished than a similar effort from network neighbors Rainn Wilson and Craig Robinson (The Office), Perry's plea to get viewers to stop watching Go On popped up on Funny or Die on Thursday. Story: Angus T. Jones Will Honor 'Two and a Half Men' Contract; Will Warner Bros. Let Him? "Glancing at the Bible has led me realize that my show, Go On, is a complete abomination with terrible

Love of cinematic entertainment can often blind one to a diamond-hard truth: For all their ability to make us laugh, send a chill down our spine, transport us to dreamlike worlds, and inspire us to greatness, movies and television are still a business. And that business’s internal workings and profit needs can sometimes interfere with its goal to entertain.
Nowhere has this been more apparent than with the venerable Warner Bros. studio, known for decades for its relative reliability and smooth corporate environment. Recently, rumblings of unrest have begun to emerge from the far-reaching media empire – rumblings that may have far-reaching implications for many beloved entertainment franchises, including DC Comics’ Justice League.

The geek world was thrown for an expected loop late yesterday when word leaked out that Warner Bros. had initiated preparations for a Justice League movie by hiring Gangster Squad writer Will Beall to tackle the script. This announcement also brought us news that Green Lantern scribe Michael Goldenberg was writing a new Wonder Woman movie. With the latest Batman series just about done, a Flash movie script in the works and Man of Steel hitting theaters next year, the time is right for Warners to begin staging their own superhero team-up, especially in light of The Avengers climbing its way to the third highest-grossing film of all time. But what should we expect from this Justice League movie? Will Warner Bros. go the Marvel route and use solo films to connect storylines through...

Since its publication in 2001, Glen David Gold‘s Carter Beats the Devil has been on Hollywood’s agenda — which isn’t to say that it’s actually got anywhere in those eleven years, though. The most famous attempt at adaptation would involve one Tom Cruise, who, under Paramount, would’ve produced and starred in the period piece about magic, Warren G. Harding (America’s worst President), and a murder conspiracy that mixes both with what most describe as wit, verve, and flavor. It sounds like a book that could make a great film, and it might finally be in motion.

We just talked about how Mila Kunis may be taking a key role [1] in Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful, after passing on a role in the live-action version of Akira to be directed by Albert Hughes. I'd heard rumor that Ms. Kunis might be looking at an Akira role, but there's a lot more in today's report about what Warner Bros. is trying to do with the film. The big deal is right in the headline -- in addition to talking to James Franco about a key part, Warner Bros. reportedly offered the lead, Kaneda, to Brad Pitt. He turned it down, but that really tells us what WB is trying to do with the movie, and makes me wonder if we'll ever see it. Vulture [2] has the details, via 'knowledgable insiders,' saying the film is expensive enough that Warner Bros. wants a major star or two to anchor the picture,...

The other day Brad sent me an e-mail asking if I'd like to delve into the status of MGM with an editorial of some sort. You know, MGM, the once great studio that currently holds the rights to the James Bond franchise and Peter Jackson's The Hobbit films. The studio sitting on Red Dawn and Joss Whedon's Cabin In The Woods.
"Something has to happen, right?" he asked.
Well, yes and no. Yes, the lenders will eventually sell the studio for what they can get out of it. No, they don't have to do it anytime soon. That's because the lenders now control the studio.
Under normal circumstances a studio like MGM, with its crushing $4 billion debt would be forced to sell off its assets to pay off its creditors. Unfortunately for movie fans the creditors in this case decided to buy up the debt for 60 cents on the dollar.

Almost immediately following the announcement of each new superhero movie debate rages about how the hero’s suit, usually the most visual and recognizable part of the character, should be transferred to the big screen. Far from trivial fanboy obsession, the cinematic design of a superhero’s costume can make or break the film. The silver screen adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds, has been mired in this dilemma for the past few months. Will Warner Bros. stay true to the classic comic book design? Or will they develop something new to maximize the believability of the premise?
As it turns out, we may never know. Well, at least not until the actual film is released. Why? because there apparently won’t be a suit at all. The guys over at Slashfilm have the scoop that nearly the entire costume will be computer generated. That’s right.
