NCIS: Origins Star Hints at Character’s Fate With BTS Image as Season 2 Starts Filming
Image
After months of sidestepping questions about her character's fate in NCIS: Origins, Mariel Molino teases fans with a Season 2 sneak peek. Here's hoping Lala survived Season 1's cliffhanger ending.

Production for NCIS: Origins Season 2 is in full swing, per Mariel Molino's Instagram update (via Cinemablend). The actor shared a photo of the Paramount lot where she filmed Season 1, but the post doesn't have context. Audiences last saw her character, Lala Dominguez, in a car crash, seriously injured and motionless. While it was hinted early on that the show is about "Lala's story," fans feared her arc ended with Season 1's tragic twist.

Molino has yet to confirm her part in Season 2, whether Lala survived the accident, and how Gibb's backstory unfolds in the aftermath. The latter could be a heartbreaking turn for Gibbs, who would take responsibility for the loss; he's still mourning his wife and daughter's deaths. It's...

'NCIS: Origins' Star Fuels Fan-Favorite Season 2 Theory with New BTS Image
Image
The cliffhanger at the end of NCIS: Origins Season 1 leaves viewers wondering whether Lala Dominguez's story ended after one short season. The character that Gibbs (Austin Stowell) said was a huge part of the reason he was telling a story about this chapter of his life was unknown to viewers when the show premiered last season. Lala gets into a grisly car accident, leaving her fate in question. No one knows what happened except for the writers, but with Season 2 amping up production recently, a curious development hints at a surprising fate for the character. Series star Mariel Molino posted a picture of herself at the Paramount lot where the show is filmed, teasing Lala's comeback. She did not caption the post with any text, but the move is interesting enough to make viewers think Lala's story is far from over.

There are several ways Molino could return for Season...

Lala's NCIS: Origins Season 2 Fate May Have Just Been Revealed In BTS Photo
Image
A peek behind the curtain of NCIS: Originsseason 2 may have just spoiled the fate of Lala Dominguez. The first prequel of the NCIS franchise fittingly focuses on the crucial character of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Played by Austin Stowell, with Mark Harmon narrating, NCIS: Origins season 2 returns in October and will have to address a major cliffhanger.

The prequel, which takes place in the early 1990s, concluded its first installment with Special Agent Cecilia "Lala" Dominguez (Mariel Molino) getting into a car accident. Considering that Lala does not appear in the main series, viewers are on alert for any storyline that might write her off early on.

But according to an Instagram story posted by Molino herself, fans shouldn't be so quick to say goodbye to Lala. The actor shared a photo of herself on the Paramount lot, where the prequel is often filmed, although no caption or details were included.

NCIS: Origins Season 2 Spoiler Alert…? BTS Photo Raises Questions About Lala’s Fate
Image
CBS’ NCIS: Origins wrapped its freshman run with a shocking scene that left viewers with the question: Did Special Agent Lala Dominguez tragically die in a car crash? And, in turn: Is that why Gibbs’ could never bring himself to speak of “her” before?

Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, co-showrunners of the prequel spinoff, have to date been tight-lipped about Lala’s fate, but a behind-the-scenes photo shared by a cast member may tip the rampant theorizing in a certain direction.

NCIS: Origins Will Feature a Major First for Gibbs in Season 2
Image
NCIS: Originsco-showrunner promises at least one major moment for a young Gibbs inSeason 2.

Speaking to TV Line, co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal responded to the question of what other firsts fans should expect from Austin Stowell's Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in Season 2 of NCIS: Origins after the first of his infamous elevator stops played out in the hit prequel series' first season. "One thing we haven’t shown yet, that I’m really excited for, is Gibbs’ first interrogation," Monreal noted. "We’ve seen him question people, outside in the field and in the elevator, but we haven’t seen him yet in interrogation properly grilling somebody — and I’m excited to see what that first will look like."

Stowell made his debut as Special Agent Gibbs when NCIS: Origins premiered on CBS back in October 2024. A prequel to the main NCIS series, which starred Mark Harmon as Special Agent Gibbs for nineteen seasons,...

‘NCIS: Origins’ Boss Teases a Major Gibbs Scene Coming to Season 2
Image
This fall can’t come any faster for fans of the hit NCIS spin-off, NCIS: Origins, as it makes its highly anticipated return in October. Chronicling the early career years of young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, before the events of the original series, the procedural was renewed for a second season in February before its nineteen-episode debut season came to an end on April 28. Now with Season 2 fast approaching, many are curious about what’s next for Gibbs, who, as seen in the Season 1 finale, killed Pedro Hernandez, the man responsible for his family's death.

Gibbs, portrayed by Austin Stowell in NCIS: Origins, experienced a couple of firsts in Season 1 with even more to come this fall. Speaking with TVLine, co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal has teased a significant scene involving another first for the character: a proper interrogation coming up next season, even though viewers may have seen him already conduct some questioning in previous episodes.

NCIS: Origins Season 2 Will Debut Another Gibbs Trademark, Showrunner Confirms
Image
NCIS: Origins season 2 will introduce one of Gibbs' trademarks from the main show. The first prequel in the NCIS franchise focuses on the formative years of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in the early 1990s, as he works with an unlikely team under the guidance of Mike Franks. Franchise veteran Mark Harmon narrates, with Austin Stowell taking over the lead role.

The formula has proven successful for CBS, with NCIS: Origins season 2 set to debut at 9 Pm on Tuesday, October 14. Steadily, however, Gibbs will begin to shift away from the relative newcomer to the seasoned pro that viewers would come to recognize from Harmon's decades on NCIS. That process, in many ways, is already taking shape.

In comments to TVLine, co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal revealed that NCIS: Origins season 2 will feature Gibbs' first interrogation. Monreal, who executive produces and showruns alongside David J. North, previews in the quote below how the...

'NCIS' Star, 31, Shares the One Piece of Veteran Advice He Got From Mark Harmon

One of the longest-running shows on television is NCIS, which has spawned several spin-offs over the years. One of the most recent offshoots of the original series is its prequel, NCIS: Origins, whcih chronicles the early years of one of NCIS' most beloved characters in Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The character is played by Mark Harmon in the original series, with Austin Stowell taking on the role of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the prequel. Harmon is attached to the project as narrator and executive producer, as audiences witness the rise of Gibbs in his career. NCIS: Origins might revolve around Gibbs, but his story is not the only one being told in the prequel.

Set in the 1990s, NCIS: Origins sees Gibbs as part of an unlikely team as he works towards becoming the pivotal NCIS character we all came to admire. Working alongside Gibbs is Special Agent Bernard "Randy" Randolf,...

‘NCIS: Origins’ Cast Shares Touching Behind-the-Scenes Footage From First Table Read on Its 1-Year Anniversary
Image
The first season of NCIS: Origins premiered in the fall of 2024 and ended its run in April 2025. The prequel series, which seeks to curate the early years of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, one of the most beloved characters in the long-running show, NCIS, has already been renewed for a second season. While the franchise boasts of several spin-offs, NCIS: Origins was the first prequel installment, and is set in the 1990s. In an incredibly heartwarming clip, the official NCIS: Origins Instagram account recently shared a video celebrating the one-year anniversary of the cast's first table read. The clip captures the cast's excitement at being part of the new show.

The video begins with Austin Stowell, who plays a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and Caleb Foote, who plays Randy, panning the camera around the room. They show off the actors, writers, and executives that have since helped to establish NCIS: Origins as its own show.

'NCIS: Origins' Executive Producer Hints at Gibbs’ Growth From Probie to Assertive Agent in Season 2
Image
NCIS: Origins is a prequel series which looks to set up the foundation that many of the other NCIS shows are built upon. Mark Harmon played one of NCIS' most beloved characters in Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and for a significantly long time. The character has been brought back in a younger version, with Austin Stowell taking on the role as the burgeoning career of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 1991 begins to take shape. As we know, Gibbs will some day lead the D.C. office, and do that very successfully as well. However, in NCIS: Origins, he has remained quiet and studious for the most part, learning the ropes as a "probie."

So when does Gibbs move from probie to assertive, confident agent? Season 1 saw a young Gibbs working under Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), alongside “Randy” Randolf (Caleb Foote) and Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez...

NCIS: Origin Star’s Latest Comment Proves the Show Will Never Stop Glazing Mark Harmon, and Eternally Rot in His Shadow
Image
NCIS: Origins might be a prequel, but it’s still stuck in the same old loop, worshipping Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs like he’s the one and only law of the land. A recent comment from Austin Stowell, admitting that he “was scared for so many reasons,” proved that the franchise still refuses to move on from its golden boy.

Instead of carving out its own identity, Origins looks set to keep polishing Harmon’s legacy while newer characters play second fiddle. For longtime fans hoping the series would evolve, this latest soundbite might just confirm their worst fear: NCIS still lives and dies in Gibbs’ shadow.

Gibbs' Change In NCIS: Origins Season 2 Confirmed By Showrunners: "Those Are All Stepping Stones"
Image
The latest update on NCIS: Origins season 2 confirms a key change for Gibbs. The prequel to the long-running NCIS franchise debuted in October 2024, focusing on a younger version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) as he assembles a ragtag team in the 1990s. NCIS: Origins season 2was renewed in February.

With an NCIS: Origins cast that includes Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote, with the narration of Mark Harmon, the prequel intentionally doesn’t perfectly align with Harmon’s version of Gibbs that viewers know from his decades on the original NCIS series. According to co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal, it’s an intentional choice.

In an interview with TVLine, North opened up about how Gibbs will evolve in NCIS: Origins season 2. In the quote below, the co-showrunner and executive producer specifically talks about how Gibbs will learn to trust...

'Gibbs Will Always Be Mark Harmon's Character': NCIS: Origins Star Still Isn't Comfortable Playing Iconic Role
Image
When it came to taking on the role of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, actor Austin Stowell had his work cut out for him as the star of the hit prequel series NCIS: Origins. For over two decades, Mark Harmon played the older version of the character, and Stowell still feels like he'll never get fully comfortable in the role.

Stowell and co-star Mariel Molino fielded some questions about NCIS: Origins while at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, per Deadline. Concerning playing Gibbs, Stowell shared that the role is no less nerve-wracking now than it was at the start, even with the success of the first season. While he likes the challenge as an actor, feeling he can actually "thrive" in these instances, Stowell still feels like the role belongs to Harmon.

“I was scared for so many reasons,” Stowell explained about joining the show. “There were just so many first times.

A key NCIS: New Orleans character could be coming to NCIS: Origins
Image
We still have a ways to go until NCIS: Origins season 2 airs, but we’re already looking forward to who we may eventually see from the original NCIS pop up on screen. With the season one finale introducing us to a younger Lara Macy, who else might we expect?

Over the two-decade span of the show’s run, NCIS has brought us so many different characters we have come to know and love. Many of them had a past interaction with Gibbs, like Macy, who we knew had investigated Gibbs for the Hernandez murder.

NCIS: Origins brought this arc to life, and now that we know, we will also get to know Gibbs’s second wife, Diane. The showrunners teased another possible appearance by someone from NCIS: Origins.

Dwayne Pride had been introduced to the franchise as one of five fellow law enforcement officers who worked together with Gibbs on a case involving a killer.

‘NCIS Origins’ Showrunner Teases New “Canon” Connections to ‘NCIS’ in Season 2
Image
Being a prequel series, NCIS: Origins is bound to touch on canon events from other NCIS shows. Season 1 featured several of those, including Gibbs' (Austin Stowell) vengeance, and the ensuing blowback that introduced characters like Lara Macy and Diane. Going into Season 2, the show's creative team is aware of certain canon events that they may encounter, and they aim to respect them. "We always have our eye on canon,” co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal told TVLine when they inquired which canon characters viewers might meet in Season 2. Respecting continuity is crucial for a prequel because it prevents undoing all the work that has been invested in creating a coherent narrative. Digging deeper into details might occur, but at no point can it be changed. Lucita Monreal explained:

"We have a big huge timeline in the writers' room and we’re really strict about sticking to it. The canon matters to us,...

"The Canon Matters To Us": NCIS: Origins Will Address Everything That Is Known From Gibbs Past Reveals Showrunner
Image
NCIS: Origins offers NCIS fans an in-depth look into Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs' past, and according to one of the prequel's showrunners, the series will cover everything viewers know about the iconic character's history. While season 1 featured many surprises, the first 18 episodes of NCIS: Origins also incorporated many characters the audience could recognize from the original CBS police procedural TV show. They also referenced events from Gibbs' life that were previously made canon. Thankfully, that won't change in season 2.

When a fan asked TVLine if NCIS: Origins season 2 would introduce other known characters from the first series, the question was taken to co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal. Even though she didn't reveal any specifics, Monreal teased that the writers are sticking to the NCIS franchise's canon. The executive producer teased:

"We always have our eye on canon. We have a big huge timeline in the writers' room, and we're really strict about sticking to it.

NCIS: Origins Made Austin Stowell Gibbs, But This Arrowverse Actor Was Ready To Pounce
Image
Austin Stowell really was the fitting choice to play a young Gibbs in NCIS: Origins. The show explored the mysterious past of the character that was not revealed during the original show’s run. The franchise can be proud of their casting decision after they potentially tossed out a major star in the role. Arrow star Stephen Amell had set his eyes on the young Gibbs role.

He wasn’t an NCIS fan, but he knew that the network television show would be able to give him a steady job for a long time. However, he didn’t get the role and auditioned for another prominent spinoff, Suits: LA. While he got the job, the show unfortunately didn’t get picked up for a second season.

"They'll Take Big Swings": 'NCIS: Origins' Cast Reveals If They Think Lala Is Really Dead After That Season 1 Finale

The first season of NCIS: Origins ended on a potentially sad note for young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell), as he endured the shocking scene of watching his confidante, Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), bleeding out in an overturned car. The relationship between the two characters has been lovely to see all season, with the pair feeding off one another positively as the duty of upholding the law gets ever more complex. For those familiar with the NCIS franchise, Lala is a name that had not come up until the prequel series came about. With minds now turned to the coming season, and Lala's death not officially confirmed, there are suggestions that the character might not be dead when the show returns for a second season.

You’ll Have to “Come Back For Season 2” to Find Out Lala's Definitive Fate in ‘NCIS: Origins’
Image
The first season of NCIS: Origins has proven to be an exciting one, with the NCIS franchise continuing its rapid expansion with an electrifying addition. The spinoff wrapped up its first season run on Monday, April 28, and amidst all the loose ends being tied up, the show threw an unexpected wrench in the works. A young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) has found himself growing ever more attached to Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino) as the season progressed. While the potential for a tragic end for the duo was common knowledge, none quite expected it to come so soon. NCIS: Origins Season 1 ended with Lala possibly dead — bleeding out in an overturned car.

Image
With another season of NCIS: Origins already in motion, more promising information about what’s ahead keeps coming to light. The most recent update, per TV Insider, hints at the possibility of Mark Harmon appearing onscreen again, which will certainly delight many viewers who have followed his character’s story since the NCIS franchise began. Harmon portrays the older Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the mothership series and narrates the Origins story.

It’s without a doubt that the actor’s voice means a lot to NCIS: Origins viewers, who would be glad to know that they’ll continue to hear it throughout the series’ run. “There’s Going to be Plenty”: ‘NCIS: Origins’ Bosses Tease the Return of a Fan-Favorite Character in Season 2
Image
This electrifying NCIS spin-off won’t be back for another couple of months or even up to a year, as its debut season just concluded yesterday with such an epic cliffhanger finale. The NCIS: Origins Season 1 finale aired on Monday, April 28, and sadly ended with the possibility that Lala (Mariel Molino) may be dead —or not. Fans will have to hold on till Season 2’s arrival to find out more details, and while doing so, co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal have hinted at who will return in the new chapter, particularly one fan-favorite character.

Speaking with TV Insider, the NCIS: Origins bosses mentioned with certainty that Randy (Caleb Foote), whose future in the field remains in question, will be back in the upcoming installment, even in a much more significant capacity than fans expect. North said:

“I will say that Gina and I are always kicking these ideas around.

“We Wanted To Take Big Swings”: ‘NCIS: Origins’ Boss Explains the Tragic Death Gibbs Never Talks About Again
Image
Everything came together in the NCIS: Origins finale as some lingering questions were answered while a massive cliffhanger threatened the life of one the team members. Lala (Mariel Molino) got into a grisly driving accident which left her mortality in question given her final scene hanging upside down in her jeep. It appeared like she had died but executive producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North won't deny or confirm it. The NCIS origin story has been atypical in many ways and the duo told TV Line that "going into this whole project, we knew we wanted to take big swings, we knew we wanted to do this more “streaming for broadcast” — Amy Reisenbach as president of [CBS] has been so supportive of that." One of those "big swings" could be Lala's death. "I won’t officially say that Lala is dead," J. North said. He added:

"But...

NCIS: Origins Showrunners on Lala’s Fate, Gibbs’ Journey, and What’s Ahead
Image
As NCIS: Origins wrapped its powerful first season, co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal sat down with TV Fanatic to discuss the emotional finale, the creative risks they’ve taken, and how they plan to honor the legacy of Leroy Jethro Gibbs moving forward.

The freshman season closed the circle on Gibbs’ early years, culminating in the devastating fallout from his first act of vengeance and the complicated cover-up orchestrated by Mike Franks and Lala Dominguez.

In the final moments, viewers watched in horror as Lala’s jeep lay overturned, bloodied and broken, as Gibbs pondered the unknowable weight she carried.

“We always wanted to dig deeper into the characters,” Monreal said. “We wanted to show who they were outside of the office… because I think ultimately that’s the best way for somebody to relate to them, to see themselves in these characters.”

North agreed,...

‘NCIS: Origins’ Creators, Mariel Molino Break Down Devastating Finale Cliffhanger: Is a Major Character Dead?
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “NCIS: Origins” Episode 18.

“NCIS: Origins” reached a key moment in the franchise’s canon, leaving the fate of one fan-favorite character in limbo for the summer.

The CBS prequel series concluded Season 1 with “Cecilia,” an episode that fittingly put a spotlight on Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez (Mariel Molino) as her friend Lara Macy investigated Gibbs’ (Austin Stowell) involvement in the murder of sniper Pedro Hernandez. The tense investigation pushed the Nis team to its breaking point, which included a screaming match between Lala and Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).

The tension reached a fever pitch when Lala successfully intimidated Lara into letting go of the investigation, just as she came to terms with being in love with Gibbs. But as she was on her way back to him, present-day Gibb’s (Mark Harmon) narration mirrored that of the series premiere, reminding audiences just how important Lala...

“I was just tired”: The Brutal NCIS Schedule That Made Mark Harmon Work for 22 Hours in the First Day Definitely Played a Part in His Decision to Quit
Image
Mark Harmon originally joined NCIS in the hopes of finding a better work-life balance. Although the procedural show did contribute to his growing stardom in the 2000s, with the show itself being voted America’s favorite television show in the 2010s, this success came at the cost of his work-life balance.

This explains why the Freaky Friday star eventually took off from the main show despite his allegiance to the IP for the better part of two decades.

Gibbs' sordid past returns to haunt him in NCIS: Origins finale (here's how)

Pedro Hernandez's murder is unearthed “Flight of Icarus” – The team investigates the death of a famed Marine commander’s son, while a pivotal part of Franks’ past involving his family is revealed, on NCIS: Origins, Monday, Jan. 27 on the CBS Television Network,...

Prior to headlining NCIS as Agent Leroy Jethro Gibb, Mark Harmon played a tough homicide cop in 1988’s The Presidio, starring Sir Sean Connery. Even though it wasn’t a major hit, the movie did garner acclaim for its beautifully choreographed action sequences, which were pretty intense for Harmon, who didn’t resort to taping his ankles for the stunt sequences.
