The drama centres on a man who finds out he has only months to live. Romanian director Mihai Sofronea is currently in post-production with his first feature, The Windseeker. A Libra Film Productions project produced by Tudor Giurgiu and Bogdan Crăciun, the film is being co-produced by Chouchkov Brothers (Bulgaria), represented by Boris Chouchkov, and Living Pictures (Serbia), represented by Stefan Orlandic. Post-production is expected to wrap in the spring. Written by Sofronea, the screenplay centres on Radu (Dan Bordeianu), a man fighting depression. A promising job interview seems to augur a better future for him, but the medical tests required by the new company come with a terrible diagnosis. With only a few months to live, Radu seeks solace in the Romanian seaside, where an old man (Adrian Titieni) takes him in. A love story with one of the man’s nieces (Olimpia Melinte) may bring a new ray of.

Manuel Martín Cuenca's Cannibal made its debut last year at Tiff and has been making the festival rounds since its premiere. What's surprising is how Cuenca's movie has managed to fly under the radar for most the last six months, especially considering that is not only sounds interesting but the fact that it's taken a number of cinematography awards for Pau Esteve Birba.

Antonio de la Torre stars as Carlos, a highly acclaimed tailor by day and a murdering cannibal by night. He has no qualms about his dark extra curricular activities, feeling no remorse or guilt but when he meets Nina (Olimpia Melinte), his life changes.

I love this trailer not only for what it manages to convey without words and for the creepy beauty of it.

Are the taste-buds at the Film Movement offices shifting? After opening up a spanking brand new, smart idea label for genre items (Ram Releasing) they’ve now grabbed the rights on what I could consider a sophisticated dramatic romance slash “cannibal movie”. Variety reports that the distrib has picked up the rights to Manuel Martin Cuenca’s Cannibal — a convincing, doppelgänger-Hitchcock-esque crispy cold number from Spain featuring standout perfs from Antonio de la Torre and a doubled-down Olimpia Melinte. The pic will open theatrically in the U.S. and Canada in the third quarter of 2014, followed by a VOD and DVD release.

Gist: Carlos is the most prestigious tailor in Granada, but he’s also a murderer in the shadows. He feels no remorse, no guilt, until Nina appears in his life. She will make him realize the true nature of his acts and, for the first time, love awakens.

Considering its title, it may be hard to accept that Manuel Martin Cuenca’s Cannibal was one of the most subtle and endearing features at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The first twenty minutes are a stunning Noir-esque example of raw grotesque violence in coordination with stunning visuals, subtle but powerful. These scenes, like all scenes of macabre nature in the film, are done in such tasteful ways they remove the surface layer of cheap shock and cut straight to the heart of an often sickening but sad affair. After this opening the film constantly battles with its own particular style, wanting to maintain its tame direction whilst maximising the brutality of its core themes.

The San Sebastián film festival is in its fourth day, and if there's a theme emerging, it's this: doubles, mirror images, doppelgangers. All over the festival, actors are bumping enigmatically into themselves.

In Arie Posin's The Face of Love, Annette Bening plays a woman whose husband (Ed Harris) tragically dies: some time later, she finds herself attracted to a man with a striking resemblance to her late partner, played of course by Ed Harris. In Denis Villeneuve's Enemy, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a regular guy with a regular life who bumps into a minor-league actor with an uncanny resemblance to him: Gyllenhaal again.
