If given the choice of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, a guide to these predators of the deep, or Shark Night in 3D, a third option is really required. An IMAX treatment can fare better at exploring the deep than a high budget exploitation of killer sharks. In what the home video release delivers is the lack of 3D. Where’s the splash?

According to multiple sources, this movie is shot in 3D. To not release a proper release is very suspicious. In amidst the fervor by industry to have a 3D television in the homes of entertainment enthusiasts by the end of last year, that penetration feels thinner than a pancake. The demand is only as good as those who want to own a 72” plasma high definition set over a liquid crystal display.

Shark Night 3D arrives almost a year after Piranha 3D reigned supreme on DVD/Blu-ray. Unfortunately, where Piranha 3D relished in its ridiculousness, Shark Night 3D tries to escape that by “elevating” itself to something more. Where it had the potential to be another gory-filled B-movie homage (the fact it was originally called Untitled Shark Thriller 3D was promise enough), it loses it almost instantaneously by failing to capitalise on its lucrative conceit.

The plot itself couldn’t be simpler: When seven college friends are invited by their friend Sara (Sara Paxton) to her parents’ idyllic lake house, they relish the chance for a weekend filled with sun, sea and sex. However, when the friends discover the water is shark-infested, their serene weekend soon turns into an all-out nightmare.

What follows is an idiot’s guide to the horror-thriller genre. Packed full of as many clichés and stereotypes as physically possible,...

Can any of you recall 2010’s Piranha? I sure can.

There was a film that revelled in the fact that it was B-grade trash, unabashedly offering a filthy, sleazy and gory romp. And you know what? It was fun.

This is the main problem here with Shark Night: it takes itself way too seriously playing it straight-faced with minimal laughs, gore and zero over-the-top quirkiness when we all know this film is anything but.

It’s called Shark Night, for crying out loud - this title alone betrays the audience in a way, teasing it’s something akin to something gleefully wicked like Piranha.

The film’s director, David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2), has had a shot at a B-grade romp before with Snakes On A Plane, which also failed to live up to being a goofy, trashy exploitation film.

I didn't go into Shark Night 3D expecting another Jaws. I was hoping for something closer to Deep Blue Sea, but what ended up on screen was more akin to Jaws: The Revenge. This was evident during the opening credits, as a montage of real shark footage included a brief shot of an animatronic shark from Deep Blue Sea. And the shot was reused during the end credits. Not a good sign.

Of course, we have an opening attack before getting to our main characters, and it's a charmer. A girl is frolicking in the lake with her sleazy boyfriend, who removes her top against her expressed wishes, tosses it further off shore, then goes off to get a sandwich. Well, I'm done being sentimental for the week.  Summer 2011 was awesome, but you know what's better?  Fall 2011.  Almost Fifty films are releasing this fall, and most of them look to be very, very promising.  This is the time of the year when the excellent Oscar bait hits the screen, in addition to numerous action films attempting to capture the box office glory of Avatar or Titanic. Basically, there's something for everyone this fall.  Whether you're a hardcore movie buff or just an occasional movie watcher, Fall 2011 is a fine time to be a filmgoer!  Hell, even the usual dump month of September looks pretty damn awesome!  So without further ado, here's Tmp's Fall 2011 Movie Guide for September!

Chicago – “Shark Night 3D” is at the top of the food chain when it comes to the people-so-stupid-they-lack-basic-survival-skills category of horror thrillers, and has so many wrong elements it nearly swings back to be right.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

The biggest problem with Shark Night is that it’s deadly dull in spots, and strangely judicious in how they show the actual sharks. The 3D per usual is useless, unless you like chunks of fish goo floating around your eyes. Believe it or not, the acting is quite sincere (and over the top), and some of the dialogue is of the so-bad-it’s-good variety, nominating it for future cult status. The production would have been improved by excising the dull parts, but then again if they were thrown out the film would have been about 30 minutes.

Here's a short new teaser Clip for David Ellis' (Snakes on a Plane) Shark Night 3D. The clip is called Sneak Attack, and it features a pretty little blonde wading through the water to go sunbathing, and what you image is going to happen to her... happens. This is going to be a stupid fun movie that will entertain those that enjoys these kinds of films... like myself. I guess I can see how a beautiful young woman would make for good shark bait. 

The screenplay for Shark Night 3D was written by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, and the story revolves around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana's Gulf area. Their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks. Unheard of in freshwater lakes, they soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals.

Today we got a look at the new TV spot for Shark Night 3D. Shark Night 3D follows a group of preppy college kids on summer break. They take their vacation at a lake house (lake and shark?) in the Gulf of Louisiana and their vacation is ruined when a shark attacks them. Shark Night 3D will be in theaters on September 2, 2011. Shark Night 3D is directed by David R. 'The Final Destination' director David R Ellis returns to his wiley 3D ways with new shark attack thriller flick 'Shark Night 3D'. We've already been gifted with a slew of interesting stills (more so simply for the glorious bikini snaps of Sara Paxton ('Last House on the Left') and Katharine McPhee) and a Us one-sheet. Now a new international French poster has arrived which is more of less identical to the Us version without the aid of certain photoshop effects. It's a full colour version featuring the bright whites of said shark and delectable flesh of the soon-to-be unfortunate victim. Shark Night 3D has just been given a PG-13 rating! I am scratching my head at this news, and am wondering if scenes were accidentally cut out to appease the MPAA. This rating is great news for Relativity Media because it allows for a wider audience to see the film. Basically, it means that teens will be annoying the hell out of me when I am trying to watch the movie. Pardon the rash generalization, but I have been to too many films rated PG-13 films where that's been the case.

If you thought it was safe to get back in the water ofter Piranha 3D you better get out, because Shark Night 3D is heading for the shore.
