The first reactions to James Gunn’s “Superman” have called it the jolt of renewed life that the superhero genre needs right now and an exciting big-screen start for Gunn, Peter Safran and Warner Bros.’ new DC Universe.

The film, which hits theaters nationwide on Friday, held its world premiere in Hollywood on Monday night. Afterward, attendees quickly went online to share their initial impressions of the film, and it sounds like Gunn has, once again, managed to conjure up some infectious comic book magic onscreen. One critic called it a “non-stop joyride, packed with humor, action and emotion,” while another wrote on X that the film is “so unapologetically silly, earnest and intentionally corny that it utterly charmed me.”

The “Superman” writer, director and DC Studios co-ceo shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Thursday that an unfinished shot of Kal-El flying through an arctic landscape “kind of got by” him in an early teaser. So far, the reactions are a bit of a mixed bag - which could be very telling. Usually, the initial response to any Marvel film is mostly very positive, and we tend to have to wait until the full reviews for a more balanced idea of what to expect.

The first teaser trailer for James Gunn’s “Superman” arrived in full on Thursday morning, and fans are feeling pretty hopeful about his take on the DC Universe.

In the footage, we meet David Corenswet’s Superman and Clark Kent, seeing him in action as both the superhero and the Daily Planet reporter. There are various shots of the Man of Steel saving the day, spending time with his love Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), and just doing classic Superman things.

Following the release of the teaser, that footage seemed to prove one thing for fans: “James Gunn gets it.”

“James Gunn did it,” Joe Russo wrote on X. “There’s something for the Donner fans. There’s something for the Snyder fans. There’s even John William’s iconic theme. And he made it his own. Superman is So Back.”

Matt Reeves garnered critical and commercial praise for his take on the Caped Crusader in The Batman. The 2022 film was widely appreciated for its grounded characters and gritty take, which is weirdly similar yet not completely identical to Christopher Nolan’s version. The project takes the classic sci-fi franchise in a completely new direction by moving the story to Tokyo, Japan, and, for the first time, shifting away from Sarah and John Connor, who have (together or separately) featured in all previous Terminator movies.

Criticism of Dwayne Johnson's ill-fated Black Adam has resurfaced following the actor's recent surprise announcement of a live-action Moana remake. Johnson is one of the most recognizable Hollywood actors working today, and in 2016, he lent his voice talents to Disney's Moana, an animated film that was a hit at the box office and also popular upon its release on Disney Plus. Last year, Johnson attempted to make a leap into the superhero genre with Black Adam, a film that earned mostly negative reviews and underperformed at the box office.

Director Matt Reeves' grimy and beautiful The Batman trailer stunned audiences over the weekend. Introducing Robert Pattinson's sullen take on the DC icon, The Batman looks like a comic book movie by way of David Fincher, and fans cannot get enough. The movie looks like the detective tale that many have been waiting for, with the Caped Crusader tasked with tracking down a mysterious serial killer with a penchant for riddles.

It looks like all those rumours making the rounds a a few months back turned out to be true. Indeed, while it’s been a long time coming, the much anticipated release has finally been officially announced by Activision. Yes, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 remasters are scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 4th. Praise the skateboarding gods, folks!

Not only do the new remasters boast completely overhauled visuals, but they’ll also include competitive online play, split-screen multiplayer, as well as a fully fleshed out course creation system. Clearly, from the screenshots that Activision has shared so far, these re-releases won’t just be a simple HD upgrade. Instead, the visuals look like they’ve been rebuilt from the ground up, in super shiny 4K no less.

Of course, the announcement sent the internet into meltdown, with fans everywhere sharing their excitement with the world.

Hold everything. At this weekend’s 45th-annual Saturn Awards, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige pulled back the curtain on a never-before-seen post-credits sequence from the 2008 original “Iron Man.”

The clip, shown below, features Marvel Cinematic Universe Mvp Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson), who says “As if gamma accidents, radioactive bug bites, and assorted mutants weren’t enough, I have to deal with a spoiled brat who doesn’t play well with others and wants to keep all his toys to himself.” He’s talking about the Hulk, Spider-Man, and very likely, the X-Men, in that order. With Disney buying 20th Century Fox, which has the rights to the X-Men, this could be an early indicator of intentions. Naturally, the spoiled brat is Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, played by Robert Downey, Jr. in the film and its subsequent sequels.

Star Wars 9 director J.J. Abrams gave John Boyega a pretty epic going away gift. Production on the last installment of the Skywalker saga recently wrapped and fans are eagerly awaiting the official title along with the first footage. Disney shareholders were treated to some behind-the-scenes footage last week, but not a whole lot was shown from the movie, leading one to believe that we still have some waiting to do.
