‘Superman’ First Reactions Praise James Gunn, David Corenswet’s Man of Steel: ‘Shakes the Rust Off of an Entire Genre’
Image
The first reactions to James Gunn’s “Superman” have called it the jolt of renewed life that the superhero genre needs right now and an exciting big-screen start for Gunn, Peter Safran and Warner Bros.’ new DC Universe.

The film, which hits theaters nationwide on Friday, held its world premiere in Hollywood on Monday night. Afterward, attendees quickly went online to share their initial impressions of the film, and it sounds like Gunn has, once again, managed to conjure up some infectious comic book magic onscreen. One critic called it a “non-stop joyride, packed with humor, action and emotion,” while another wrote on X that the film is “so unapologetically silly, earnest and intentionally corny that it utterly charmed me.”

The blockbuster has, notably, received early comparisons to director Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, the first two installments of which are still generally regarded as two of the greatest comic...

Ironheart: First Reactions To All 6 Episodes Of Marvel's Latest Disney+ Series Land
Image
Marvel's Ironheart hits Disney+ with a three-episode premiere tomorrow, and the social media embargo for Riri Williams' solo series has now lifted.

We'll keep adding reactions as they come in, but so far, we'd say the consensus is mixed-positive. Though some seem to feel that the show is among the best we've seen from Marvel, the majority of posts are not quite as glowing. That said, very few are outright negative.

Dominique Thorne comes in for a lot of praise in the lead role, and it sounds like the introduction of magic-based tech is something that MCU fans should be very excited about.

Anthony Ramos' villain, The Hood, doesn't get many mentions (probably not a great sign), and there are some criticisms of the writing, but all-in-all, Ironheart might just be worth checking out.

Have a look through the X posts below. There are no blatant spoilers, but a couple...

‘Superman’ Director James Gunn Admits ‘Funky’ CG Shot ‘Kind of Got by Me,’ Pulled It From the Movie
Image
If you thought a preview shot of the Man of Steel flying in the teaser trailer for the upcoming “Superman” film looked bad, worry not — James Gunn did too.

The “Superman” writer, director and DC Studios co-ceo shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Thursday that an unfinished shot of Kal-El flying through an arctic landscape “kind of got by” him in an early teaser. In fact, the shot bothered him so much, it will not appear in the final cut of the film.

The shot in question, featured at the end of a 30-second teaser released Jan. 26, follows Superman from behind as he soars through the arctic — likely, either coming or going from his Fortress of Solitude. When Superman approaches a rocky structure, the camera switches angles to cover his face as he does a barrel roll. What follows is a shot of Superman flying straight at the...

Captain America: Brave New World First Reactions Are In Following World Premiere
Image
The world premiere of Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World took place in Hollywood tonight, and the first wave of social media reactions are just starting to come in.

So far, the reactions are a bit of a mixed bag - which could be very telling. Usually, the initial response to any Marvel film is mostly very positive, and we tend to have to wait until the full reviews for a more balanced idea of what to expect.

Some do have high praise for Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) first big-screen outing as Cap, but the general feeling seems to be that Brave New World is... just okay.

One thing most critics do seem to be able to agree on is that Mackie proves himself a worthy successor to Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, even if he's let down by certain other aspects of the story (it sounds like the...

‘Superman’ Trailer Reactions See Fans Feeling Hopeful: ‘James Gunn Gets It’
Image
The first teaser trailer for James Gunn’s “Superman” arrived in full on Thursday morning, and fans are feeling pretty hopeful about his take on the DC Universe.

In the footage, we meet David Corenswet’s Superman and Clark Kent, seeing him in action as both the superhero and the Daily Planet reporter. There are various shots of the Man of Steel saving the day, spending time with his love Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), and just doing classic Superman things.

Following the release of the teaser, that footage seemed to prove one thing for fans: “James Gunn gets it.”

“James Gunn did it,” Joe Russo wrote on X. “There’s something for the Donner fans. There’s something for the Snyder fans. There’s even John William’s iconic theme. And he made it his own. Superman is So Back.”

“I truly don’t know why anyone ever doubts James Gunn.

Superman Star Rachel Brosnahan Shares Photos From Trailer Event; 4K Textless Version Of Poster Released
Image
The first official poster for James Gunn's Superman was released earlier today ahead of Thursday's trailer, and some 4K testless versions have now been shared online, just in case anyone wants to use the stunning image of David Corenswet's Man of Steel taking flight for their wallpapers.

The one-sheet was accompanied by about 60 seconds of John Murphy's score, which uses elements of both John Williams (Superman The Movie) and Hans Zimmer's (Man of Steel) iconic scores.

The trailer was screened at a special event on the Warner Bros. lot earlier today, and star Rachel Brosnahan was in attendance (you can check out some photos below).

Some vague reactions were posted to social media afterwards, but nothing particularly detailed just yet. There's a chance that members of the press that got to see the teaser were asked not to share any in-depth breakdowns, as we are just...

“I’m going to lose my f—king mind”: Matt Reeves’ Plans for The Batman Franchise Must Nudge James Gunn to Do the One Thing That Fans Have Been Waiting for Decades
Image
Matt Reeves garnered critical and commercial praise for his take on the Caped Crusader in The Batman. The 2022 film was widely appreciated for its grounded characters and gritty take, which is weirdly similar yet not completely identical to Christopher Nolan’s version. But as Matt Reeves has announced his plans for the film series’ future, the fans want James Gunn to bring a change to the Dcu.

According to Reeves, The Batman – Part II will also tread on grounded characters and follow a story deep-rooted in the corruption and darkness of Gotham. This has disappointed many fans who feel that James Gunn’s Dcu should focus on introducing interesting fantastical villains to Batman’s story.

Terminator: Zero Anime Series Hits Netflix Amid Highly Positive First Reviews
Image
"Three billion human lives ended on August 29, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day..."

Despite decent reviews, the last Terminator movie, Dark Fate, was the latest instalment in the franchise to underperform at the box office, and it will probably be a very long time before we see the war against the machines continue on the big screen (though it's worth noting that James Cameron did recently reveal that he is planning to return to the franchise for a mysterious new project).

While the saga may be taking a (possibly permanent) break in live-action, a new 8-episode Netflix anime series titled Terminator Zero is now streaming.

The project takes the classic sci-fi franchise in a completely new direction by moving the story to Tokyo, Japan, and, for the first time, shifting away from Sarah and John Connor, who have (together or separately) featured in all previous Terminator movies.

“This is dumb”: James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Killing the Best Man of Steel Live-Action Project Reeks of Double Standards That Can’t Be Ignored

Superman: Legacy has indirectly caused the cancellation of Superman & Lois. Starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, the CW series has been considered one of the best Superman adaptations. However, the series faced an unexpected end ahead of the release of its fourth season.

“This is dumb”: Fans Call DC Out on Studio’s Biased Take on Superman While Batman Walks Away Scot-Free

Well, it seems that the Dcu is indeed playing some kind of game that the people do not like at all. With Superman and Lois being two integral characters of cinematic storytelling, it comes naturally that the two characters will indeed be seen in James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy.

But to cancel a pre-existing CW series by the name of Superman and Lois so that there’s no confusion for the people… is quite a dumb move. Well, that’s exactly what Warner Bros. did before the release of Superman: Legacy!

Bob Iger Hints Only at ‘Captain America 4’ & ‘Fantastic Four’ For 2025, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Still Scheduled for 2024 Release
Image
A few months back, Bob Iger revealed that Marvel Studios intends to shift its focus from quantity to prioritize quality, prompted by disappointing box office performances of two out of three recent MCU releases. Disney acknowledges that the previous formula no longer resonates with audiences, recognizing that merely attaching the Marvel logo does not guarantee success at the box office.

In 2024, ‘Deadpool 3’ stands as the sole film release alongside Disney+ shows. This movie is being hailed as a potential savior of the MCU, with the studio pinning hopes on it to revive the excitement and allure that characterized high-budget superhero productions before the monumental success of “Endgame.”

Iger has now discussed ‘Captain America 4’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ as the only slated movie releases for 2025.

Bob Iger Mentions ‘Captain America 4’ & ‘Fantastic Four’ as 2025 Releases, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Still Listed as 2024 Release
Image
A couple of months ago Bob Iger announced that Marvel Studios will most likely change its output in terms of quantity to focus a bit more on quality following disastrous box office results for 2/3 MCU releases. Disney is aware that what used to work no longer works with the general public and just because a superhero movie has a Marvel Logo stamped on it it’s not a guaranteed box office success.

‘Deadpool 3’ is the only movie to be released in 2024 in addition to Disney+ shows, and the movie is already being hailed as the savior of the MCU as the studio counts on it to reignite some of the flame and appeal that high-budget superhero productions held prior to the release and during release of their last superhit “Endgame.” Now Iger recently discussed ‘Captain America 4’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ as the only movies being released in 2025.

Black Adam Criticism Resurfaces In Reaction To Dwayne Johnson's Shock Moana Remake
Image
Criticism of Dwayne Johnson's ill-fated Black Adam has resurfaced following the actor's recent surprise announcement of a live-action Moana remake. Johnson is one of the most recognizable Hollywood actors working today, and in 2016, he lent his voice talents to Disney's Moana, an animated film that was a hit at the box office and also popular upon its release on Disney Plus. Last year, Johnson attempted to make a leap into the superhero genre with Black Adam, a film that earned mostly negative reviews and underperformed at the box office.

Following Johnson's shock announcement that he will be reprising his role as Maui in a live-action Moana remake, some fans have taken to social media to poke fun at Black Adam and Johnson himself. Check out some of the tweets below:

The Batman Fans Are Losing Their Mind Over The Batmobile Reveal

Kevin Feige Reveals Never-Before-Seen ‘Iron Man’ Post-Credits Sequence Packed With McU References
Hold everything. At this weekend’s 45th-annual Saturn Awards, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige pulled back the curtain on a never-before-seen post-credits sequence from the 2008 original “Iron Man.”

The clip, shown below, features Marvel Cinematic Universe Mvp Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson), who says “As if gamma accidents, radioactive bug bites, and assorted mutants weren’t enough, I have to deal with a spoiled brat who doesn’t play well with others and wants to keep all his toys to himself.” He’s talking about the Hulk, Spider-Man, and very likely, the X-Men, in that order. With Disney buying 20th Century Fox, which has the rights to the X-Men, this could be an early indicator of intentions. Naturally, the spoiled brat is Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, played by Robert Downey, Jr. in the film and its subsequent sequels.

Holy Overkill! Are there Six ‘Batman’ Films Planned for 2019?
All six are on the slate but not all scheduled.Courtesy DC

Update: This one’s been seemingly debunked by Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, two guys who would definitely know. Dig the tweet chain below. But regardless of when the films are being released, they are still all in various stages of production, so you’re getting them, the question is just when. According to the report, all four live-action Batfilms currently in development — The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, and Batgirl — will all drop in 2019, along with two animated...

Are you one of the many moviegoers concerned with the meteoric rise in 3D productions? It’s a trend that many feel will die soon, but some still believe it is only getting warmed up. Famous filmmakers have been getting these questions nonstop, especially since many of them are giving 3D a try. Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson answered such questions at San Diego Comic-Con.
