TV Academy Returns the Variety Series Writing Emmy to Telecast
Image
After Writers Guild of America waged a protest regarding the Television Academy‘s decision to move the outstanding writing for a variety series or special categories out of the upcoming Emmy telecast, the TV Academy has reversed course.

In a joint release sent out today, the Television Academy, Fox and the WGA said they were “happy to announce they have reached an agreement to include the Writing for a Variety Series category in the 75th Emmy Awards telecast airing live on Fox on January 15, 2024, at 8pm Est / 5pm Pst.”

Because this year’s Primetime Emmys has moved the variety special (live) category into the telecast (it was on the Creative Arts show last year), the TV Academy was likely looking to keep the telecast capped at 25 awards, so something had to fall out. And in this case, it was the variety writing field that originally got pushed to the Creative Arts ceremony.

‘The Other Two’ Season 2 Trailer: The Quest for Stardom Continues on HBO Max
Image
“The Other Two” duo of Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke are back! The series, focused on the lives of brother and sister Cary and Brooke Dubek, is moving from its original home on Comedy Central over to the HBO Max streaming service. The first trailer for Season 2 dropped and, dare we say, Cary and Brooke might be acting a little bit more mature than they once were?

The comedy follows Cary and Brooke who are the “other two” older siblings of superstar Chase Dubek (Case Walker). Unfortunately, Cary and Brooke are still having a hard time breaking into the industry; the former looks to be hosting a digital E! series while the latter is participating in her mom Pat’s (Molly Shannon) new talk show.

“The Other Two” hails from former “Saturday Night Live” co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider. Recurring cast this season includes Brandon Scott Jones, Gideon Glick,...

‘The Other Two’ Season 2 Trailer: Molly Shannon’s Newfound Talk-Show Fame Is Driving Brooke and Cary Crazy (Video)
The Other Two (2019)
After a very long hiatus following its first season, “The Other Two” is finally debuting its second season later this month. On Wednesday, HBO Max — the new home of the former Comedy Central series — released the trailer for the upcoming episodes, which see siblings Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) play second fiddle yet again, but this time not to their famous brother, Chase Dubek (Case Walker).

Nope, now it’s their mom Pat Dubek (played by Molly Shannon) who is hogging all the spotlight from her desperate-to-be-famous kids.

Per HBO Max’s description for Season 2 of “The Other Two”: With their pop star brother, ChaseDreams (Case Walker), officially entering retirement at the ripe old age of fourteen, Brooke and Cary (Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver) must now contend with a new famous family member: their 53-year-old mother Pat (Molly Shannon), and her eponymous daytime talk show. Humiliated...

Seth Meyers Reveals How He Convinced Rihanna to Day Drink With Him
Seth Meyers at an event for Portlandia (2011)
Seth Meyers has made no secret of his love for Rihanna. As the “Late Night” host told Jimmy Fallon in February, he’s “fully in love” with the pop star slash business mogul (he clarified that his wife is fine with it because “she’s also in love with Rihanna — it’s what we have in common”). And yet he never was able to get Rihanna to come on his show until this week, when Meyers revealed that he had spent Wednesday shooting back tequila with her for his “Day Drinking” segment, in which the host gets ridiculously drunk with a celebrity guest instead of sitting through a traditional interview.

“Day Drinking with Rihanna,” in all its messy glory, aired on Thursday’s show in lieu of a monologue. Within just a few hours of shooting, Meyers and Rihanna downed themed drinks, practiced pickup lines, tried out her Fenty Beauty makeup line,...

Seth Meyers' Oscar Bait Movie Spoof Is Missing Just One Thing
Seth Meyers at an event for Portlandia (2011)
Is it too late to add an tenth Best Picture nominee at the 2017 Oscars? On Late Night Tuesday, Seth Meyers parodied the films typically nominated for Academy Awards. Directed by Mike Karnell, the movie spoof also starred Jenny Hagel and Amber Ruffin. Meyers, of course, was the film's leading man. The nearly six-minute trailer began with a voiceover as "clips" were shown: "This winter, see a film that's not afraid to pander to your emotions, a film that is shamelessly timed for award season: Oscar Bait. Critics are calling Oscar Bait 'a triumph' (Vanity Fair), 'daring' (The Hollywood Reporter), and The Los Angeles Times says, 'Oscar Bait is the most blatant attempt to win an...
