5 Anime Characters Who Dominated Anime in 2024 (And 5 Others You Overlooked)
Image
2024 was another great year for anime. It was filled with original stories, great set pieces, and plenty of interesting characters. Some characters got the limelight they deserved, taking center stage during 2024. Other characters were incredible but didn't get the attention they deserved, doing very well within their respective series but being overshadowed by big shows. Some of the most popular characters were obviously going to be big from the beginning, like Goku's resurgence in Dragon Ball Daima.

Other characters took the world by storm out of nowhere, like one of the best elves in anime Frieren from the legendary Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. While some characters got the screen time they deserved, others sat back and became largely underrated, giving people who didn't initially watch their shows a great reason to tune back in and see some of the best from 2024.

Overlooked: Kazuhiko Nukumizu and Anna Yanami Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!

25 Best Female Anime Characters of All Time, Ranked
Image
It's no understatement to say that women are the backbone of anime, naturally making fans try to rank the greatest female anime characters. While male anime protagonists are still generally the norm, anime still offers a wealth of interesting female characters that can't help but steal the show. From strong leading ladies to heart-wrenching love interests, no matter the plot or genre of the anime, female anime characters have captured the hearts of fans.

Though stereotypes might reduce women in anime to one-dimensional love interests, the truth is that women in anime are just as diverse as their male counterparts. Though shojo anime is always a great source of female characters, even shonen anime has its share of interesting women. Great female characters can be found in every genre of anime, making ranking the best difficult. In a way, the best female anime characters can almost be considered a reflection...

10 Best Isekai Anime Like KonoSuba
Image
KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! is the funniest isekai series of all time. It features one of the most frustratingly lovable cast of characters, a world filled with mystery, and some of the best writing in anime, all genres included. When Satou Kazuma is transported to his new world, he's allowed to bring any one thing with him. When the Goddess Aqua laughs at him during this process, he decides to take her instead, creating a hilarious dynamic within the first episode.

To be a great show like KonoSuba, an isekai series needs to have some element of humor. It also needs to have good animation, and at least decent writing. While no show can truly compare with KonoSuba's outrageous humor, some can get close. Still, there are plenty of isekai series out there that are great for anyone who loves watching Kazuma, Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin bumble their way to success.

10 Best Isekai Anime Like Overlord
Image
Overlord is a popular isekai series that marries brutality and humor to create a hilarious show that's not afraid of exploring darker themes. The star at the center of the series is Ainz Ooal Gown. He's left alone in the video game Yggdrasil, but before he was trapped, he was one of the strongest characters in the game. Now he's alone with only his NPCs to keep him company. After discovering his new situation, he set out to dominate the entire world in the hopes that he could find another person like him.

To be a good Overlord isekai comparison, a show doesn't need to be as dark and funny as Overlord, but it certainly doesn't hurt. The best shows like Overlord will have smart companions to guide the main character, an interesting world filled with the promise of adventure, and a broken protagonist with powers so absurd, they stand...

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! Character Guide
Image
All episodes of Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! season 1 are available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is the anime based on Takibi Amamori's light novel series of the same name and the most highly praised rom-com show of anime's Summer 2024 lineup. The series is loved for its subversion of the harem anime genre and a character-centric storyline that focuses on the hardships of teenage romance and the value of genuine platonic friendships.

The cast of Makeine is what makes the anime thrive as one of the hit series of the summer. Main protagonist Nukumizu and the Losing Heroines are a truly loveable bunch, whose growth and development are well-supported by the lost romantic crushes and the dreaded (but equally likeable) love rivals of the show.

10 Best Anime Like Mushoku Tensei
Image
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is one of the best isekai series of all time. It features one of the biggest and richest worlds in isekai, great, well-rounded characters, and an incredibly divisive main character in Rudeus Greyrat. The story of Mushoku Tensei spans Rudy's entire life, starting with his reincarnation into the new world as a baby and leaving no stone unturned. Rudeus begins the story as a baby, eventually goes to magic college, and even begins a family of his own. While not many other animes are like it, there are a few that could be considered worthy comparisons.

To be a good Mushoku Tensei comparison, a show doesn't need to be an isekai, but it doesn't hurt. The biggest qualities a series in common with Mushoku Tensei would have would be its thorough worldbuilding, a great cast of side characters, and a deep, meaningful story that doesn't leave...
