Selma Blair to Star in Supernatural Thriller ‘Silent,’ Architect Launching at EFM (Exclusive)

Selma Blair is set to take the lead in upcoming supernatural thriller “Silent” from filmmaking duo Doron and Yoaz Paz.

The film, being produced by Roundtable Entertainment and Templeheart Films, has been launched by Architect ahead of EFM. Architect rep worldwide sales and are co-representing North American rights with Roundtable. Production is due to start in Vancouver this summer.

In “Silent,” Blair will play Skylar, a sound designer hired anonymously to create the audio for a rare silent film. Disturbed by its contents, Skylar is nonetheless increasingly obsessed with her work, and unwittingly finds herself caught up in a dark ritual that unlocks an ancient evil, threatening to consume her and her young daughter.

Paddington and Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville, Michael Socha and Ella Bruccoleri (Bridgerton) have grabbed the lead roles in the crime comedy Go Away!

The indie, written and directed by Ed Kear and Cringo Williamson through their production banner Rude Guests, has started production in Heltfordshire, U.K. Steve Speirs, Jo Martin, Niky Wardley, Jeff Mirza and Chris Gascoyne round out the ensemble cast.

Go Away! follows the deadbeat lodger Kyle Burden, played by Socha, as his life is turned upside down when an accident with a bailiff on the same day his landlord has viewings with potential home buyers threatens to derail his pot-growing business.

UK horror ‘Purgatory’ wraps Wales shoot, releases first image (exclusive)

Rebecca-Clare Evans’ Caged Film has wrapped a three-week shoot in Snowdonia, Wales on Natalie Kennedy’s horror Purgatory.

The film stars Alina Allison from 2023 horror Punch, and Thomas Grant from Pretty Red Dress. Purgatory follows a disabled young woman on her way to university who meets a sadistic serial killer, and who must work to escape an cycle of torment. Evans, Bhaskar Patel, Pat Lally and Millie Thompson also star. A first look at the film has been released, above.

The script, by US writer Brian Schwab, recently received second place in the horror/thriller category at the Slamdance Screenplay Competition.

Film Seekers Adds Sci-Fi To AFM Slate

Exclusive: UK sales agency Film Seekers has added sci-fi feature Blank to its slate ahead of the American Film Market. Set in the near future, the film is a portrait of a desperate writer wrestling with her buried past, who signs up for a fully A.I. operated retreat to cure her writer’s block. But when an unforeseen software glitch occurs, she gets trapped inside her unit with an unstable android and no communication with the outside world. It is the feature debut of director Natalie Kennedy and stars Heida Reed (Poldark), Rachel Shelley (The L Word) and Wayne Brady (Black Lightning). Pic was produced by Rebecca-Clare Evans of KenMor Films for Caged Film and Executive Produced by Lyndon Baldock of Templeheart Films in association with Marcia Do Vales of Enmar Productions.

Dalai Lama Doc ‘Never Forget Tibet’ Heads To Cannes Market, Hugh Bonneville Narrates

Exclusive: UK sales company Parkland Pictures has picked up worldwide sales rights to feature documentary Never Forget Tibet about the Dalai Lama.

Featuring exclusive access to the 14th Dalai Lama and narrated by Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), the film details the religious leader’s daring escape from the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959 and is told on film for the first time in his own words with the late Har Mander Singh, the Indian political officer who led him safely to India.

With an original score by artist Anouska Shankar and inspired by the book An Officer and His Holiness by Rani Singh, the film is produced and directed by Jean-Paul Mertinez.

Executive producers are Gary Collins for Red Rock Entertainment, Lyndon Baldock and Gavin Patterson for Templeheart Films, and correspondent Rani Singh.

Blank (2019)
Sci-fi drama “Blank” has wrapped filming and is now in post-production, with a first-look image released of the lead actresses. The movie stars “L Word” and “Deep State” actress Rachel Shelley, and “Poldark’s” Heida Reed. The cast also features U.S. star Wayne Brady, whose credits include “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Let’s Make a Deal” and “How I Met Your Mother.”

“Blank” sees a desperate writer sign up for a fully A.I. operated retreat to cure her writer’s block, but when an unforeseen software glitch occurs, she gets trapped inside her unit with an unstable android and no communication with the outside world.

WTFilms picks up sales rights to nun horror 'Heretiks' (exclusive)
Paul Hyett’s film world premiered at FrightFest in August.

Paris-based sales company WTFilms has acquired international rights for UK director Paul Hyett’s supernatural horror picture Heretiks ahead of the American Film Market later this month (Oct 31-Nov 7).

The film world premiered at the Arrow Video FrightFest in London in August and is due to have its North American premiere this month at the Telluride Horror Show Film Festival.

UK actress Hannah Arterton - whose recent credits include Harlan Coben’s Canal+, Netflix-backed mini-series Safe - stars as Persephone, a young woman wrongly accused of witchcraft in 17th Century England.

The EnMar Productions and Sterling Pictures project stars Michael Ironside and Clare Higgins.

Principal photography has begun on Heretiks, a supernatural horror from Paul Hyett, director of werewolves-on-a-train feature Howl.

Starring Michael Ironside (Total Recall), Clare Higgins (Hellraiser) and Hannah Arterton (Walking On Sunshine), the film is set in Britain in the 17th Century and follows a young woman who, after being saved from execution, discovers a new evil within her.

Producers are Marcia Do Vales for Spain’s EnMar Productions and Michael Riley for the UK’s Sterling Pictures.

Executive producers are Gary Collins for Red Rock Entertainment and Lyndon Baldock for Templeheart Films.

Hyett has co-written the script with Conal Palmer. The pair previously collaborated on 2012’s The Seasoning House.
