For years we’ve been hearing that writer/director Joe Cornish and actor John Boyega have been talking about making a sequel to their 2011 alien invasion film Attack the Block (watch it Here). The project was officially announced last year – and now Boyega has revealed to the folks at Collider that he and Cornish have been crafting the story for Attack the Block 2 together.

Director Edgar Wright and writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns told the audience at Contenders London today that bringing their own experiences of living in London was integral to the making of their upcoming Focus Features pic Last Night In Soho.

“In the 27 years I lived in London, I spent more time in Soho than any sofa or any flat that I’ve ever lived in,” said Wright, before adding that filming in the London district was a “difficult” area to shoot in.

“It’s the only area of London that is essentially 24/7,” he said. “But we wanted to take the bull by the horns and shoot not just the modern day stuff in Soho but also the 1960s scenes in Soho as well.”

Writer Wilson-Cairns noted that she infused a lot of her own experiences as a woman in London, such as the “horrendous pickup line in the bar” and “the creepy taxi driver” to the script.

Have you ever noticed how the icily dramatic opening strings in “You’re My World,” Cilla Black’s earnest, bawling-on-the-bathroom-floor ballad from 1965, could just as easily be a shivery horror theme by Bernard Herrmann? Edgar Wright has, and uses the likeness to briefly spine-tingling effect early in “Last Night in Soho”: As ’60s-fixated Gen-z fashion student Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie) finds herself somehow transported in time to the Swinging London world of naive party girl and aspiring chanteuse Sandie (Anya Taylor-Joy), those strings signal not just the dreamy collision of timelines, but a darkening of tone and genre, as Eloise’s rosy nostalgia for an era she never inhabited is soon invaded by blood-dripping violence and threat.

Leave it to Edgar Wright to play with genre expectations and deliver yet another delightfully off-kilter thriller that also thrills with its undeniably trippy atmosphere and blast to the past of swinging 60’s London. The director of films like Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, The World’s End, and of course the cult classic Shaun Of The Dead has taken the seemingly glamorous and intriguing era of the 60s in Mod London circa ’65 and turned it into an increasingly menacing and dark period, but still fueled by a killer song selection that takes us from Cilla Black to Petula Clark. It is a mix that has you in its first half longing to go back to that period in time like protagonist Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie) , but then maybe rethink that decision. An aspiring fashion designer finds herself trapped in a time-loop in the trailer for Edgar Wright’s upcoming psychological thriller, Last Night in Soho, set to arrive October 22nd.

The film stars Thomasin McKenzie as Eloise, a young student who moves to London to pursue fashion design, but soon finds herself lonely and out of place. After mysteriously traveling back to 1966, however, Eloise finds herself embodying a wannabe singer named Sandy, played by Anya Taylor-Joy.

While the trailer first finds Eloise relishing the glamor of the swinging Sixties, the clip’s tone grows increasingly sinister.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features have juggled a couple key releases on their 2021-2022 schedule.

Just a month ahead of its planned Feb. 26 wide release date, Universal has announced that “Nobody,” starring Emmy-winner Bob Odenkirk, will move back two months to April 2.

Directed by “Hardcore Henry” filmmaker Ilya Naishuller and “John Wick” franchise scripter Derek Kolstadt, Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, an average suburban dad, who sets off on a path of vengeance after his family is targeted by a dangerous adversary (Alexey Serebryakov). Rounding out the film’s cast — and Hutch’s family — are Christopher Lloyd (playing his father), RZA and Connie Nielsen and Gage Munroe (as Hutch’s wife and teenage son).

Yet another highly-anticipated movie has been delayed to 2021. Focus Features has announced that Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho has been pushed back a full seven months. The thriller has been set to arrive in theaters on September 25 of this year. Instead, it will now arrive on April 23, 2021.

Edgar Wright's follow-up to Baby Driver will be here in just over a year. Focus Features has announced they will release the filmmaker's latest Last Night in Soho on Friday, September 25, 2020, domestically. Focus Features said on Wednesday (Aug. 7) it will release Edgar Wright’s London-set Last Night In Soho from Working Title in North America on September 25, 2020.

Universal Pictures International will release the film internationally. Little is known about Wright’s follow-up to Baby Driver, except that it is a psychological thriller that stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, and Matt Smith.

Rounding out the key cast are Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham.

Wright’s last movie Baby Driver was the filmmaker’s highest, opening to $20.5M domestic, and legging out to $107.8M stateside, $227M worldwide.

Veteran UK actors Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp have joined Edgar Wright’s Last Night In Soho, rounding out the cast of the Working Title film.

It has recently begun production on location in London, with Wright directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

Further new cast include Rita Tushingham (Doctor Zhivago), Michael Ajao (Attack The Block) and Synnøve Karlsen (Clique).

They join previously announced cast members Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie and Matt Smith.

Wright’s long-time producer Nira Park is producing alongside Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

Edgar Wright’s “Last Night in Soho” has rounded out its cast, with veteran actors Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp among the stars signing on for the latest movie from the “Baby Driver” director.

Stamp can currently be seen in Netflix hit “Murder Mystery” with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Rigg’s recent roles include Olenna Tyrell in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” The British star of stage and screen also picked up the Variety Icon Award in Cannes earlier this year.

The roster of other talent coming on board “Last Night in Soho,” which is being produced by Wright and Working Title Films, includes Rita Tushingham (“Doctor Zhivago”), Michael Ajao (“Attack the Block”) and Synnøve Karlsen (“Medici”).

In an age where most films that stand a chance of making an impact at the box-office have already been backed by millions upon millions of dollars, its rare to see low budget features at all, let alone a good one. It remains to be seen whether or not Joe Cornish's Attack the Block will make an impact at the box-office, but it definitely has the makings of a cult classic. His incredibly funny, exciting and inspiring action-horror-comedy features a simple story with performances that go above and beyond most big budget f/x pictures. At times one can feel the budget restraints of the production, yet they are not flaws, just enjoyable quirks that work surprisingly well in service of the experience.

Chicago – Here’s a directorial debut made with such an assured sense of style and craft that one wishes it were more fun. All the ingredients are here for a splendid cult classic: deadpan gags, live-action aliens, a fresh-faced ensemble and R-rated violence all wrapped in the blessings of Edgar Wright and Nick Frost. Yet “Attack the Block” sounds a lot more fun on paper that it is in execution.

For all of its considerable charms, the picture is irrevocably marred by the least likable protagonists in recent memory. The blame cannot be placed on the young actors, who are all game and energetic. It’s the script by first-time feature director Joe Cornish that lets them down. As a cinematic rule of thumb, it’s generally a bad sign when viewers start growing impatient over waiting for the so-called heroes to get killed off.
