Despite its impressive performance, industry projections indicate the Minecraft movie is unlikely to reach the $1 billion milestone. This would solidify its position as the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, trailing The Super Mario Bros. Movie's commanding $1.361 billion. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 remains a distant third with $462.5 million globally.

Capitalizing on the popular "chicken jockey " phenomenon, Minecraft movie screenings are getting a lively upgrade. Theaters are now offering "Block Party Edition" showings,...

‘The Toxic Avenger’: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know
Image
Remember the cult hit from 1984 that made Troma Entertainment notorious for its schlockiness? Finally, The Toxic Avenger is returning to the big screen once again. The franchise has been equally funny, brutal, and strangely charming. The original film mixed slapstick violence with a bit of satire. After many decades, the reboot looks to be authentic to its roots while introducing something new for the younger audience.

However, the path to this remake has not been easy. After premiering to a select audience, the film mysteriously disappeared. The movie even had big names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Guillermo Del Toro attached to it at some points. Now that it appears to be finished, let’s explore the actors, storyline, and all the relevant details on this radioactive resurrection.

Makers and cast of The Toxic Avenger

Peter Dinklage leads the cast of The Toxic Avenger. He plays Winston Gooze, who is a...

Oscar winner Wachsberger, the former Lionsgate Motion Picture co-chairman, didn’t have to look far for his first project. Macon Blair’s completed film is a Legendary production.

The dark comedy, a reimagining of Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Entertainment’s 1984 cult classic of the same name, stars Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Julia Davis and Taylour Paige. Macon also scripted the reboot.

As we previously revealed, Terrifier outfit Cineverse has set an August 29 North American release for the movie, in which Dinklage stars as downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze, who, after a freak accident, transforms into a mutant vigilante known as Toxie. Armed with his signature mop,...

‘God Country’ Graphic Novel in the Works as Movie at Legendary
Legendary Entertainment has acquired worldwide film rights to the fantasy-action graphic novel “God Country” and will team up with AfterShock Media on the project.

Legendary announced the deal Tuesday. “God Country” is written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Geoff Shaw, with Cates set to adapt the screenplay. Jon Silk brought the project in and is overseeing with Jay Ashenfelter for Legendary Entertainment.

Legendary and AfterShock previously teamed on developing a movie based on the comic “Animosity.” Launched in 2015, AfterShock Media is a publisher of creator-driven comic books and graphic novels aligned with a TV and film production company. The company is overseen by CEO Jon Kramer and president Lee Kramer.

“God Country” was originally published in 2017 by Image Comics. The story centers on an elderly widower rattled by dementia. When a tornado levels his home as well as the surrounding West Texas town, he’s restored and rises from...

Legendary Picks Up Film Rights ‘God Country’ Novel With Author Donny Cates Adapting
God Country is getting the film treatment. Legendary Entertainment has obtained the film rights to the graphic novel, illustrated by Geoff Shaw and written by Donny Cates, who will also pen the screenplay for the adaptation.

Cates’ credits include Babyteeth, from AfterShock Comics, Venom, Doctor Strange, and Thanos for Marvel.

Lee and Jon Kramer of AfterShock Media are producing the project, which marks the collaboration for Legendary.

God Country centers around Emmett Quinlanm an elderly widower rattled by dementia. When a tornado levels his home–as well as the surrounding West Texas town–a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body. He’s now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State.

Jon Silk is overseeing the pic with Jay Ashenfelter for Legendary.

‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and ‘Reef Break’ to shoot in Queensland
Poppy Montgomery will star in and Ep ‘Reef Break’. (Photo: Red Carpet Report on Mingle Media TV via Flickr)

Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla vs. Kong and ABC Studios International’s 13-part series Reef Break will be shot on the Gold Coast, secured by the Federal Government’s Location Incentive Program.

The government has spent $16 million from the $140 million program, first announced ahead of the Federal Budget, in order to attract the two productions.

Both projects will kick off before the end of the year, and together are estimated to generate $100 million and employ 1,300 people. The productions follow on from Dora the Explorer, which is currently shooting at Village Roadshow Studios.

The Location Incentive Program – a grant that will be delivered over four years from 2019-2020 – is effectively a top-up for the 16.5 per cent Location Offset, which is widely regarded by industry as uncompetitive when compared to rebates in other territories designed to attract footloose production.
