On Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem bashed New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) and the City Council for New York City’s sanctuary laws.

These policies declare that under sanctuary city jurisdictions, the New York City Police Department is prohibited from working with federal immigration authorities regarding civil enforcement.

Noem said that two migrants from the Dominican Republic, Christhian Aybar-Berroa and Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, were arrested after they allegedly shot an off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer in Fort Washington Park late on July 19. The ambush was a component of an attempted robbery.

Regarding Nunez, Noem stated, “He was arrested four different times in New York City and, because of the mayor’s policies and sanctuary city policies, was released back to do harm to people and individuals living in this city.

The debate was nasty even before it started. Actress-turned-politician Cynthia Nixon wanted the temperature in the debate hall at Hofstra University to be 76 degrees, apparently because Governor Andrew Cuomo “likes a cold room.” She also asked for a debate format that involved the two candidates standing.

Instead, both candidates were seated, would not shake hands and were backdropped by drapery — Cuomo’s preferred press conference setting.
