Mythica: Stormbound Review – Low Budget, High Ambition in Franchise Revival
Image
After eight years of silence, the Mythica franchise emerges from dormancy with “Stormbound,” a sixth installment that feels both like a homecoming and a fresh start. This crowdfunded fantasy series, which began in 2014 with modest ambitions and D&d-inspired adventures, returns to a world forever changed by the climactic events of “The Godslayer.” Set nearly two decades after the defeat of the great evil Szorlok, we find ourselves in a fractured realm where victory’s aftermath has proven almost as devastating as the original threat.

The film makes a bold narrative pivot, abandoning the quest-driven structure of its predecessors for something more intimate and psychologically complex. Instead of sprawling adventures across magical landscapes, “Stormbound” confines itself to a single location—a remote inn where disparate travelers seek shelter from both literal and metaphorical storms.

This chamber piece approach, clearly inspired by Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight,” transforms the fantasy genre...

The Christmas Dragon episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be reaching the Gizmoplex on December 16th. The livestream premiere begins at 8pm Eastern. Here’s the information:

Outpost (2008)
The Outpost Canceled After 4 Seasons
Outpost (2008)
The CW is parting ways with one of its summer series.

According to TV Line, The Outpost has been canceled after four seasons.

The last-ever episode is currently set to air on the network Thursday, October 7 at 9/8c.

Like many CW series, the on-air ratings have sagged considerably.

The show returned in July to 450,000 viewers and a 0.05 rating, and it has been staying around those numbers since.

As a co-production, the series was thought to have lasted this long because co-productions are typically cheaper to produce because of the different outlets involved.

The series “follows Talon, the lone survivor of a race called Blackbloods. Years after her entire village was destroyed by a gang of brutal mercenaries, Talon travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilized world, as she tracks the killers of her family," according to the official logline.

"On her journey to this outpost, Talon...

Anand Desai-Barochia
The Outpost: Renewed for Season 4!
Anand Desai-Barochia
Talon's adventures are not coming to an end for a while yet.

The CW has ordered a fourth season of the fantasy drama ahead of its third season premiere, according to Deadline.

In addition to the renewal, it was announced that series regular Anand Desai-Barochia, who plays Janzo in the series, has also been promoted to associate producer for The Outpost Season 4.

The Outpost shuttered production earlier this year in Serbia, but it was one of the first SAG-AFTRA approved shows to get back to work in June.

This allowed work to be completed on The Outpost Season 3, and fans will be able to witness the twists and turns when The Outpost Season 3 Episode 1 debuts Thursday at 9/8c on The CW.

The series also stars Jessica Green (Ash vs. Evil Dead), Jake Stormoen (Extinct), Imogen Waterhouse (Nocturnal Animals), and Desai-Barochia.

The series is not expensive for the network,...

‘The Outpost’ To Resume Filming Season 3 In Serbia With Balkanic Media, Medical Advisor
Image
Electric Entertainment and Arrowstorm Entertainment said Monday they’ll resume production in Serbia for the third season of the CW’s fantasy-adventure series The Outpost. Production was halted at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak in mid-March.

Restarting production is a hot topic Stateside as the industry, unions and state and local officials hash out protocols. Governor Gavin Newsom of California Friday announced guidelines to restart on June 12 if local conditions permit. Meanwhile, Serbia has been one of several countries that are particularly active in wooing productions overseas.

The announcement was made jointly by Dean Devlin, CEO of Electric Entertainment and Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin of Arrowstorm Entertainment.

Balkanic Media, a production company based in Belgrade, has an extensive post-lockdown production plan containing thorough and comprehensive guidelines on maintaining staff and crew’s safety on-set. All crew members are going through training to ensure safety measures are maintained.

The Outpost Trailer: A Summer Drama Worth Watching?
We think it's fair to say that scripted offerings on the broadcast networks during the summer months are pretty much non-existent.

The CW is gearing up to launch two new dramas this summer, and we have the first trailer for one of them.

The Outpost's official description reads:

Years after her entire village is destroyed by a gang of brutal mercenaries, Talon travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilized world, as she tracks the killers of her family.

On her journey to this outpost, Talon discovers she possesses a mysterious supernatural power that she must learn to control in order to save herself, and defend the world against a fanatical religious dictator.

The first trailer certainly shows off the action, and it actually looks like a mash-up of Reign and The Shannara Chronicles, which we're totally okay with.

The Outpost stars Jessica Green, Jake Stormoen, Imogen Waterhouse,...

Cinepocalypse 2018: Inquisition Horror Film The Appearance Trailer
Kurt Knight's period horror film The Appearance, will have its World Premiere at Cinepocalypse on Wednesday, June 27th in Chicago.

In the film film that has a definite Game of Thrones vibe (particularly as it stars Kristian Nairn (aka Hodor), “Mateho (Jake Stormoen), an officer of the Inquisition and rational man of science, visits a remote monastery to investigate a bizarre murder of a monk. And you guessed it: something evil is afoot. But is the terror man-made or the result of witchcraft?”

The eerie, medieval thriller is reminiscent also of Christopher Smith's Black Death which is always a good thing in my books.

Check out the trailer below courtesy of a...

Now this is one for the books, a direct to DVD “traditional” war film starring Dolph Lundgren and Luke Goss, thematically similar to classics like The Dirty Dozen and Inglorious Bastards. I for one never expected that! But that’s what War Pigs is, an old-school WW2-set war film about a small group of soldiers, the titular war pigs, put together to infiltrate a German army camp and disable the weapon stored there…

Following a botched raid, disgraced World War II army captain Jack Wosick (Goss) is given the opportunity for redemption when asked to lead a rag-tag unit of misfits known as the War Pigs on a secret mission to go behind enemy lines.
