Thunderbolts* Rumored Disney+ Debut, Pedro Pascal Wraps Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-man 4 Tank Driver Revealed
Image
Thunderbolts* is now available on Digital and Blu-ray, but for those of you holding out for its Disney+ debut, we may finally have a positive update.

According to a commercial that's been airing in Greece, the movie will arrive on the streamer starting Wednesday, August 27. That's 117 days after the movie's theatrical debut, and a longer wait than Captain America: Brave New World (103 days), Deadpool & Wolverine (110 days), and The Marvels (92 days).

Thunderbolts*—a.k.a. *The New Avengers—struggled at the box office, earning only $382 million at the worldwide box office, even after overwhelmingly positive reviews.

"Thunderbolts* redefines superhero storytelling to deliver a moving and powerful story that does for the 'Multiverse Saga' what The Avengers did for the 'Infinity Saga' in 2012," we said in our review. "These heroes have earned their place on a Wheaties box."

Earlier today, Deadline broke the news that Pedro Pascal is in talks to...

The Fantastic Four Will Slip To #3 At U.S. Box Office This Weekend With Better-Than-Expected 50% Drop
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps had a couple of weeks without any serious competition (though Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth posed a bigger problem than Marvel Studios likely expected), and now looks set to drop to third place in North America this weekend.

During Thursday previews, Barbarian director Zach Cregger's Weapons earned $5.7 million, with Disney's Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis-led Freakier Friday behind it at $3.1 million. The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailed both movies with $2.9 million, a decent enough hold that placed it ahead of The Bad Guys 2 ($2 million), The Naked Gun ($1.5 million), and Superman. ($1.4 million).

The latter continues to exceed expectations in the U.S., and appears to have connected with moviegoers in a way the latest Marvel Studios movie has not.

Heading into the weekend, it's looking like Weapons and Freakier Friday are going to be neck and neck. The latter is looking at a $27 million - $30 million haul,...

Fantastic Four Box Office Rises Above McU's Bottom 5, Set to Fall from #1 in US
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has surged up an important box office chart. The superhero movie, which is the 37th feature-length installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing.

2025's The Fantastic Four: First Steps has already experienced some turbulence at the box office. After debuting with $117.6 million, Marvel's best opening weekend of the year, it cratered with a 66% drop during its sophomore weekend that represented one of the McU's worst drops in history.

Per Deadline, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has taken in an additional $2 million at the domestic box office on Thursday. In addition to bringing the movie's cumulative domestic total to $214.8 million, this pushes its global box office total to more than $385.29 million (not all international grosses for Thursday have been calculated just yet).

Rumor: Natasha Lyonne's Fantastic Four Character Was Changed For A Surprising, Possibly Controversial Reason
Image
When we first heard that Natasha Lyonne was set to appear in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, fans assumed that she'd be playing Alicia Masters (though the voice of H.E.R.B.I.E. was also a popular theory), but the Poker Face star was actually cast as an original character named Rachel Rozman.

Likely based on Debbie Green from the comics, the character's name is believed to have been changed as a tribute to Jack Kirby's wife, Rosalind "Roz" Goldstein.

In the movie, Rozman is an elementary school teacher Ben Grimm meets while entertaining a group of kids on Yancy Street. The two hit it off, but Rachel only appears in one other full scene in the third act. Now, we may know why Lyonne's role was reduced.

According to John Rocha on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, Lyonne's character was originally written as a rabbi,...

Rumor: The Fantastic Four Sequel Moving Forward With Matt Shakman "Likely" To Return As Director
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps was hit with a pretty steep drop at the domestic box office during its second weekend in theaters, leading to questions and concerns about the MCU reboot's franchise potential. Marvel Studios doesn't seem overly daunted, however, and may already have plans in place for a sequel.

Though nothing has been officially announced (and probably won't be for a while), Jeff Sneider has heard that "Matt Shakman will likely return to direct a sequel."

Apparently, Marvel execs are confident that a second movie will be a bigger box office success once audiences become more familiar with Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben after they return for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

During yesterday's earnings call, Disney's Bob Iger said that The Fantastic Four had “successfully launched this important franchise into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” which was our first indication that more Ff movies are in the early planning stages.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Will Be McU's Highest-Grossing Non-Sequel Since 2019; Spoiler Stills Released
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hasn't reached the same heights as Superman at the North American box office, but it's also not the flop many people would have you believe.

The Marvel Studios reboot pulled in a decent $3.92 million on Wednesday, taking its 13-day domestic total to $212 million. Yesterday, it surpassed Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's total of $214.5 million and is expected to rise to upwards of $233 million through its third weekend in theatres.

Box office analysts still expect The Fantastic Four: First Steps to finish its U.S. run with $280 million - $290 million, meaning it will be the McU's highest-grossing non-sequel since 2019's Captain Marvel.

It won't come close to reaching $1 billion, but when Disney and Marvel Studios look at numbers like those, you'd best believe they'll be happy—or happy enough—with a result that confirms there's interest in these characters.

Earlier this week, it was reported that...

Image
Picture the scene: you've just arrived on a remote, uninhabited, island, and you've found yourself shacked up with Sydney Sweeney, Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and All Quiet On The Western Front star Felix Kammerer. Sounds like paradise, right? Well, not if you're Ana de Armas and you find yourself playing an Austrian Baroness trapped in the savage world of Thirteen Lives filmmaker Ron Howard's upcoming survival thriller Eden, it ain't. Based on the true story of Floreana, an island in the Galapagos that played host to a band of exiles who fled Europe in the early 20th century, Eden — if the tense first trailer's anything to go by — sees Lord Of The Flies and says "Hold my conch." Check it out below;

Sun. Sea. Sex. Suspect European accents. Devastatingly beautiful and undeniably portentous landscapes serving as a backdrop to a powder-keg of violent tension. This sure ain't no Swiss Family Robinson,...

Failure is inevitable." The story follows a handful of people fueled by a profound desire for change; turning their back to society they leave everything behind and set their futures on the harsh landscape of the Galapagos. Based on historical events, this scintillating thriller stars Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby as high-minded Europeans seeking a new life on a previously uninhabited island in the Galápagos archipelago. The Fantastic Four Said To Be An "Important Franchise" For The MCU Despite "Bad Omen" Box Office Reports
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps was hit with a 66% drop at the domestic box office during its second weekend in theaters after a strong debut. Even so, the movie has now passed the $200 million mark in North America, and is performing better than Marvel Studios' previous 2025 releases, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.

Granted, this isn't exactly a major accomplishment.

It's impossible to deny that Marvel movies (and superhero films in general) simply aren't the massive box office draws they once were, with $1 billion hits such as Deadpool and Wolverine now the exception rather than the norm. While Marvel/Disney were almost certainly hoping that First Steps would be a bigger hit, is it reasonable to suggest that studio execs are now at panic stations?

Sky is falling-type articles do the rounds after any Marvel movie is perceived to be underperforming, and the latest from The Wrap - "Fantastic Four...

‘Fantastic Four’ Box Office Dive Is a Bad Omen for Marvel’s Future
Image
After a $117.6 million domestic start and promising word of mouth from its opening weekend, it looked like “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” could at least be a step in the right direction for Marvel Studios after two years of inconsistent box office returns. Its second weekend poured a bucket of cold water on that hope.

Despite an A- on CinemaScore and a 92% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, “Fantastic Four” cratered with a 66% second weekend drop to $40 million domestic and $79 million worldwide. The other comparable superhero film, “Superman,” saw a 53% drop in its second weekend.

The retrofuturistic spin on Marvel’s “first family” has largely failed to make the leap from hardcore fans to a wider audience despite that buzz from the former, resulting in a hold that was only two percentage points better than the 68% drop of the tepidly received “Captain America: Brave New World” earlier this year and the critically lambasted 2015 “Fantastic Four” film,...

Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Worldwide Box Office After 11 Days ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened with strong numbers at the box office but had a steep fall on its second weekend. The MCU movie is now aiming to escape the 5 least-earning MCU films list next. To achieve that, it will have to cross a major global milestone soon. Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby’s movie will achieve that, but it will still have an underwhelming run at the box office. Keep scrolling for the deets.

However, it has witnessed a drastic drop in the second weekend, maintaining its top spot among weekly domestic rankings. The film will also hold on to the IMAX screens now, and it will help it earn more money, helping it prevent being a box office failure. The MCU movie features a retro-futurist world that the F4 team must protect from Galactus.

Pedro Pascal Is Everywhere: Weapons Almost Became Fantastic Four Star’s 4th Movie of 2025
Image
Pedro Pascal had nearly added Weapons to his already jam-packed 2025 slate! But due to scheduling delays and Hollywood strikes, the actor had to opt out of starring in Zach Cregger’s upcoming horror-thriller (via Entertainment Weekly).

Cregger expressed some disappointment about the scheduling and recasting during his interview with EW. The original cast of the movie included Pascal, Brian Tyree Henry, Austin Abrams, and Renate Reinsve.

The strikes delayed us, and then when you delay, people’s schedules get conflicts, and then you’re back at square one. I bear no ill will towards anybody. We just kept getting delayed and delayed. It’s like a domino effect. So I had to start over again.

Having Pascal in the movie would have likely brought more viewers to Weapons. But it seems like the actor would have also benefited just as much by starring in Cregger’s next feature.

Chris Hemsworth clears up Thor video that had fans thinking he was retiring as the character
Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Hemsworth in Thor (2011)
Earlier this year, Thor star Chris Hemsworth posted a video on social media titled Thank You! The Legacy of Thor, sparking speculation among fans that he was bidding farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After nearly fifteen years in the role, it wouldn’t be surprising if he were ready to hang up Mjolnir, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

While speaking with THR, Hemsworth clarified that the video was not intended to be a preemptive goodbye.

“It was certainly not the intent. To be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, ‘Oh, this could be cool. We’ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, cool. It’s been great,’” he explained. “So we penned it together, and off I went to do something else. But then I had a few people ask me about it,...

Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Points To Surprising Team-Up With Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova - Spoilers
Image
We are now exactly 500 days away from the release of Avengers: Doomsday, and Daniel Richtman has shared an intriguing update to a rumor he previously posted back in May.

As you may recall, the scooper reported that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) would actually be part of Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) team in Doomsday. This led to speculation that the Thunderbolts New Avengers may disband, or possibly even get taken off the board early by Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) or some other powerful enemy.

Now, Richtman has clarified that Belova won't be an official member of Captain America's Avengers, and will simply "accompany them when they travel to another universe."

We expected a bit of Multiverse-hopping in this movie, but it is interesting that Yelena is the one to join Wilson's faction of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for their alternate reality mission.

We have heard that Pugh and...

Michael Giacchino Built His ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Score on Hope — Some of It Before a Single Frame Was Shot
Image
All happy families might be alike, but every family of superheroes is messy and codependent in its own way — and composer Michael Giacchino would know. Between scoring the “The Incredibles,” the last two “Thor” films, the Marvel “Spider-Man” movies, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” and now “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” among others, Giacchino has spent a lot of time coming up with musical themes that pull us into heroic, heightened worlds.

Each film, even within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has its own demands on the score, of course. So Giacchino worked closely with director Matt Shakman to make sure that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” had a distinctive sound that could help power the film’s tone and character dynamics.

What’s even more impressive is that Giacchino started doing this before a single frame was even in the can. The composer created the film’s main theme for a...

It’s been an 11‑year gap between Matt Shakman’s big‑screen directorial debut, Cut Bank, and his highly anticipated sophomore feature, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But in the years between films, Shakman hasn’t exactly been idle. The Emmy‑nominated director has built an impressive résumé in television, helming episodes of acclaimed series like The Good Wife, Game of Thrones, Billions, Succession, and, most notably, all nine episodes of Marvel Studios’ WandaVision.

While doing press interviews for the film, Shakman reflected on how his experience with WandaVision shaped his approach to Marvel’s “First Family.” He said the two projects share surprising similarities in their themes and world‑building. ’Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Trails the $200 Million X-Men Flop that Killed the Franchise
Image
The 20th Century Fox era of X-Men movies got an emotional send-off last year at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine. But fans will remember that, in 2019, the franchise was curb-stomped into oblivion by Dark Phoenix, the fourth installment of the reboot series that began with X-Men: First Class. The movie tanked commercially and with the critics, and is said to have lost the studio hundreds of millions of dollars just before Fox and its assets were sold to Disney. The X-Men will soon be introduced afresh in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the highest-grossing film franchise in history, just like the recently released The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The movie delivered a decent opening weekend haul but witnessed an unexpectedly hefty drop in its sophomore frame. To make matters worse, The Fantastic Four is underperforming in overseas markets, where it still trails Dark Phoenix.

Directed by Simon Kinberg, the longtime Fox...

Henry Cavill and Vanessa Kirby Team-Up in This 97% Rotten Tomatoes Action Thriller Dominating American Streaming Charts
Image
Vanessa Kirby has carved a throne for herself in modern cinema, from her regal turn as Princess Margaret to high-octane roles in Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious. She stunned the Academy with her performance in Pieces of a Woman, and recently joined Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps as Sue Storm — a role that’s already winning her praise. Henry Cavill, meanwhile, has marched through pop culture like a mythic figure, donning Superman’s cape, wielding Geralt’s brooding armor in The Witcher, and soon picking up a sword for the Highlander reboot. Now, one of their most electrifying collaborations is surging in popularity all over again.

The film taking over Paramount+ right now is Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the 2018 action thriller many call the best entry in the franchise — and one of the greatest action movies of the 21st century. Cavill is the villain of the piece as August Walker,...

His latest role as Reed Richards, leader of Marvel’s First Family, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps reportedly came with a massive paycheck.

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Lags Far Behind ‘Superman’ in Box Office Battle
Image
The battle between Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps and DC’s Superman is looking more and more one-sided. According to the latest box office numbers, as of August 3, 2025, Fantastic Four has made $197.1 million in the United States and Canada and $170.3 million in other countries.

That’s a worldwide total of $367.4 million. Superman, on the other hand, is flying much higher with $316.1 million in the U.S. and Canada and $235.3 million internationally, adding up to $551.4 million worldwide. But, it makes sense, Superman has been out longer right?

Things started off promising for Fantastic Four. Before its release, it was expected to earn between $190 and $210 million globally in its opening weekend.

But after that big start, the movie’s momentum has taken a serious hit. On its second Friday, it made just $11.7 million, an 80% drop from the first Friday. That’s the worst Friday-to-Friday drop for any superhero movie this year.

Pedro Pascal’s Reported Salary for ‘The Fantastic Four’ Is More Than Entire ‘Superman’ Cast Combined
Image
How much did Pedro Pascal make as scientist Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps? As per the Instagram handle, Wealth, The Last of Us star was paid $10 million. In comparison, Superman stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan earned $750,000 each, while Nicholas Hoult took $2 million home (via Puck News). Even combined, Pascal bagged the bigger paycheck!

When news broke that Pedro Pascal would be the leading man of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it confirmed what his fanbase already knew- that he was a bona fide leading man made for the big screen. But the fact that Marvel Studios paid him a salary that was higher than the combined salaries of the main lead trio of DC Studios’ Superman is testament to what he has achieved.

It also highlights how far he has come as an actor and as a star. However, this gap also highlights the...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Suffers Even Bigger Second Weekend Drop Than Estimated With $38.7 Million
Image
The latest box office numbers are in, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps suffered a steeper-than-estimated drop domestically after its second weekend in theaters.

Marvel Studios' reboot was expected to take in at least $40 million over the weekend, but only ended up making $38.7M (marking a 67% drop). The movie should hit $200 million later tonight, and is currently sitting at around $367 million worldwide on a reported production budget of $200 million.

There's been quite a bit of doomsaying (no pun intended) about these figures, but it is worth keeping in mind that First Steps is still performing better than both Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* (it's actually already passed the latter's entire domestic cume) overall.

Some of the negativity likely stems from the perception that The Fantastic Four was always viewed as Marvel's biggest movie of the year, and was released to compete directly with DC Studios' Superman. Regardless, we...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Concept Art Reveals An Even Bigger Galactus And A Robotic Giganto
Image
Marvel Studios will release an "Art of" book for The Fantastic Four: First Steps this November, and several retailers have now been updated with preview pages showcasing never-before-seen artwork from the reboot.

The first piece reveals an even bigger Galactus than the one we saw rampage through New York City during the final act. Look closely, and you'll see a tiny Mister Fantastic scaling his thumb; had Marvel Studios gone down this route, there would have been no way for the team to physically attack the Devourer of Worlds.

We also have new shots of Shalla-Bal, a.k.a. the Silver Surfer, and a robotic version of Mole Man's giant monster, Giganto. It seems Marvel Studios thought that making him a robot rather than an underground monster was a better fit for the movie once upon a time.

While we got a classic version of Giganto in The Fantastic Four: First Steps' final cut,...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Poll Results Are In - Find Out What Cbm's Readers Made Of The MCU Reboot
Image
We recently asked ComicBookMovie.com's readers to let us know how they felt about Marvel Studios and director Matt Shakman's The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the results are in.

1346 of you voted, and - just like the results of our Superman poll - the majority of you went with the most positive option, "Fantastic, 5/5," continuing all the way down to the most negative choice, which got just 2% of the votes.

While James Gunn's Dcu reboot certainly had its share of detractors, First Steps seems to have been embraced by the majority of fans. Critics were also won over, and the movie is currently sitting at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, Marvel's First Family's latest big-screen outing doesn't seem to have resonated with general audiences to the same extent.

After a strong debut, The Fantastic Four suffered a significant second-weekend drop (down almost 80% from its opening day), and may...

Overlooked Jessica Alba Movie Climbs Up Streaming Charts 18 Years After Leaving Theaters
Image
An underrated superhero movie continues to make its mark on the streaming charts following the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

PerFlixPatrol, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer continues to maintain its place on the chart of the top streaming films on Disney+. As of the time of writing, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer sits at the number seven spot on the list, having fallen just one spot in recent days.

Helmed by returning director Tim Story from a screenplay by returning writer Mark Frost and co-writer Don Payne, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer was the direct follow-up to 2005's Fantastic Four. The film saw Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis reprise their roles as Reed Richards, Sue and Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, better known as Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing, respectively. 'Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Trails Dwayne Johnson’s Franchise-Killing Superhero Flop at the Global Box Office
Image
Marvel was in for a rude shock this past weekend, as The Fantastic Four: First Steps registered a massive drop in revenue. The superhero movie was the studio's biggest bet this year, especially after both Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* underperformed theatrically. It was billed as the grand introduction of Marvel's "First Family" to the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, the MCU. But none of the pre-release buzz, nor the positive reviews, seem to have worked in the film's favor. After 10 days of release, The Fantastic Four still hasn't overtaken the lifetime global haul of one of the biggest superhero misfires in recent memory, Black Adam.

Released in 2022, Black Adam's production was rife with controversy. The movie was over a decade in the making, during which starDwayne Johnson rose to the very pinnacle of Hollywood. When he finally got around to the project, the DC Extended Universe was on its final legs,...

Beloved Family Movie That Is Basically The Fantastic Four Surges On Streaming Amid First Steps' Release
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps released late last month to some of the better reviews that Marvel movies have gotten in recent years. The movie holds an 87% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92% Popcornmeter from audiences, on par with the McU's previously well-received release, Thunderbolts*.

This critical success has been marked by significant box office momentum. So far,Fantastic Four has grossed over $368 million worldwide, and that total is growing. It will likely beat out Thunderbolts*'s $382.4 million gross this week, and is also on pace to surpass the other 2025 MCU release, Captain America: Brave New World.

The plot of First Steps finds the Fantastic Four at a critical juncture in their dynamic. The filmopens with Reed (Pedro Pascal) and Sue (Vanessa Kirby) finding out they are pregnant with their first child. This creates an additional sense of family as the quartet, which also includes Reed's best friend and Sue's brother,...
