‘Blood Relatives’ Review (Shudder)
Image
Stars: Noah Segan, Victoria Moroles, Josh Ruben, C.L. Simpson | Written and Directed by Noah Segan

Actor Noah Segan follows up “M.I.S.T..E.R.” his segment from last year’s Scare Package with his first feature, Blood Relatives, a comedy that proves blood, and the thirst for it, is thicker than water.

Francis (Noah Segan) is a vampire. He keeps to himself and travels the backroads trying to avoid attention. He’s been doing a fairly good job of it too until the clerk at a motel makes a comment about a girl who can’t be more than sixteen in his room. He’s confused, but as it turns out she’s right. The girl’s name is Jane, and she claims to be his daughter by way of an indiscretion while he was passing through Elk River. And she has the fangs to prove it. Since...

Blood Relatives Review: Noah Segan’s Vampire Tale Delivers Familial Drama and Genre Hijinks
Noah Segan
As a vampire without American identification, you could say Francis (Noah Segan) is an illegal immigrant regardless of the fact he’s lived in the country longer than anyone else currently alive with a legitimate birth certificate. Why he chooses to drive through red states in his vintage Barracuda while confusing Alex Jones-loving, conspiracy-theorizing yokels with Yiddish is therefore a mystery. This is the solitary bachelor life he’s chosen, though. And perhaps that part of the country is simply better suited for a nomadic lifestyle demanding a sense of secrecy considering the trail of bodies Francis inevitably leaves in his wake (animal meat makes him bloated). There’s also no shortage of racist criminals no one will miss for him to kill. Happiness is an unnecessary luxury. Survival is paramount.

Everything changes when he finds a fifteen-year-old girl skulking around his motel room. Not only is it a...

Noah Segan Interview: Blood Relatives
Image
Sometimes, reconnecting with long-lost family can suck, as seen in Blood Relatives. The upcoming horror-comedy revolves around 115-year-old Yiddish vampire Francis who is confronted by Jane, who reveals herself to be his teenage daughter with similar abilities, save for her being able to go out into the daylight, throwing off his lone wolf lifestyle.

Scare Package alum and frequent Rian Johnson collaborator Noah Segan is writing, directing, and leading the cast of Blood Relatives alongside Plan B's Victoria Moroles, Akasha Villalobos, C.L. Simpson, Doug Benson, and Josh Ruben. Taking influence from a wide variety of vampire titles, as well as single-parent stories, the horror-comedy proves to be a subversive and exciting feature directorial debut from Segan.

Victoria Moroles Interview: Blood Relatives
Image
Family road trips are getting a lot bloodier with Blood Relatives. The film centers on a young woman who endeavors to find her long-lost father, a 115-year-old vampire, only to find her efforts dampened by being used to an isolated lifestyle. As he attempts to drop her off with family on her mom's side, the two begin to learn about one another and help break each other's walls down.

Noah Segan and Victoria Moroles lead the cast of Blood Relatives alongside Akasha Villalobos, C.L. Simpson, Doug Benson, and Josh Ruben. Hailing from Segan in his feature directorial debut, the horror-comedy is a subversive take on the father-child relationship drama full of heart, dad jokes, and blood.
