Excitement is growing for ITV’s upcoming drama series The Hack, and now we have exclusive new images that bring the story to life. The show, created by the award-winning team of Jack Thorne, director Lewis Arnold, and producer Patrick Spence, focuses on the real-life investigation into phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch’s now-closed News of the World.

Deadline first announced the project earlier this year, and Australian streaming service Stan is co-producing the series. David Tennant stars as investigative journalist Nick Davies, who uncovered the phone hacking scandal more than ten years ago.

The pictures shared by Deadline show Tennant fully immersed in his role, alongside Robert Carlyle, who plays Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook. Cook was in charge of looking into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, a key part of the story told in The Hack.

ITV has officially announced its drama about the U.K.’s phone-hacking scandal and investigation, a seven-part series now entitled “The Hack” and written by multi award-winner Jack Thorne.

The unveiling of the first look from “The Hack” — which shot last year — comes just a week after the hacking controversy concerning Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. tabloids reached a new peak, with his News Group Newspapers making a historic apology to Prince Harry and agreeing to pay substantial damages.

David Tennant — who himself accepted damages from Ngn over a phone-hacking claim against the now-defunct News of the World — plays Nick Davies, the investigative journalist who uncovered evidence of hacking. Toby Jones plays his former editor-in-chief at The Guardian newspaper, Alan Rusbridger, while — in a story running parallel to the hacking expose — Robert Carlyle plays former Met Police detective chief superintendent Dave Cook, who led an investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

Exclusive: The timing couldn’t be better. Just a week after Rupert Murdoch’s shock apology and settlement with Prince Harry, ITV has unveiled a phone hacking drama series from Jack Thorne starring David Tennant as investigative journalist Nick Davies.

ITV and Australian streamer Stan have spent the past year quietly filming, editing and laying the groundwork for The Hack, which comes from the storied creative trio of multi-bafta Award winner Thorne, director Lewis Arnold (Sherwood) and producer Patrick Spence (Mr Bates vs the Post Office).

Set between 2002 and 2012, The Hack interweaves two real life stories, the work of Davies, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at Murdoch’s now-defunct News of the World, and the story of the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, led by former Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook. Its working titles through the past year have included Broken News and Mandrake.

Hulu gives fans their first look of the next period drama from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The series is currently slated to premiere on February 21.

The first trailer for Knight's upcoming A Thousand Blows was posted to the official Hulu YouTube channel on January 16. The series is set to explore the world of illegal boxing in Victorian London circa 1880. A Thousand Blows will introduce a sprawling crime drama, all while featuring real-life historical figures amongst its expansive cast of characters.

The latest trailer for Hulu’s A Thousand Blows boxing drama has The Crown star Erin Doherty as Mary Carr trading barbs outside the ring with feared bare knuckle pugilist Sugar Goodson, played by Peaky Blinders star Stephen Graham, to grow her criminal empire.

“Watch me kill him,” a menacing Goodson, the self-declared emperor of London’s East End boxing world, tells Carr, who introduces herself as Queen of an all-female criminal gang known as the Forty Elephants. “Can’t happen,” she defiantly replies, as Carr looks to exploit the talents of Kirby, a Jamaican boxer played by Hezekiah Moscow, who challenges Goodson for survival, and dominance, in the illegal boxing ring.

As Passenger’s Riya (Wunmi Mosaku) says in her 40th birthday party speech at The Dog and Duck, life hasn’t gone quite as she’d hoped. Five years ago, Riya left her job and spacious city apartment to move in with her husband and his mother-in-law in the remote Lancashire town of Chadder Vale, where the most exciting crimes to investigate involve stolen wheelie bins. Her husband soon legged it to Spain with his mum Sue’s carer, leaving Riya alone in a tiny terraced house to look after Sue.

Sue Goodheart (Clare Burt) isn’t well. She’s paranoid and hallucinates, phones Riya roughly 20 times a day, and has to be administered specialist medication for her degenerative condition. The Ruderman Family Foundation selected five more recipients of its Seal of Authentic Representation: Fox’s “9-1-1,” Apple TV Plus’s “Coda,” Freeform’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” and Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever” and “The One.”

Marlee Matlin, who is one of the stars of “Coda,” has also received the Ruderman Family Foundation’s Morton E. Ruderman Award in Inclusion for her lifelong activism for people with disabilities.
