Exclusive: UK independent film Tramp has secured a theatrical distribution deal with China Film Group.
The film is set for theatrical release in China towards the end of this year or early-2026, with production company Emc Productions adding that they are also exploring opportunities for the film to be available on Chinese streaming platforms.
Tramp is a sports drama that explores the worlds of mixed marital arts (Mma) and motherhood. Loosely inspired by real athletes, the film follows a British-Polish fighter whose meteoric rise is derailed by an unexpected pregnancy.
Produced by London-based Emc Productions, the film stars Izabella Malewska (Cold Feet, Holby City) and Alessandro Babalola (Top Boy, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), and is shot by Tristan Chenais (Rogue Agent, Dust to Dreams).

“Supergirl” star David Harewood has boarded Karen Bryson’s directorial debut “Monochromatic” as an executive producer, Variety can exclusively reveal.
Bryson, who played Elinor Stone in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” was awarded the Goldfinch Female First Flights Short Film Fund to make the project.
“Monochromatic” tells the story of a young girl of color set in 1970s London. The film “shares a story of the inevitable moment a six-year-old girl realises the world operates with bias when it comes to the color of her skin,” reads the logline.
Bryson used real footage of a 1977 National Front March in the short, which is set to premiere this year.
“My aim for ‘Monochromatic’ is to hold a mirror up, inviting an audience to ask questions of themselves,” Bryson said in a statement. “It touches on the concept of nurture, what we see and hear, consciously or unconsciously shape who we are,...

“The Suicide Squad” star Idris Elba has boarded Uzo Oleh’s short thriller “Edicius” as an executive producer, Variety can exclusively reveal.
The film stars “Chernobyl” actor Michael Socha as Jason, a man who works on behalf of a powerful gang. “When Jason uncovers the truth behind his most powerful client, he realises his life is on the line” reads the synopsis. “But a visit from his intuition, a man with his exact likeness, claims to have the answers to save him. All Jason has to do is trust him…but can he?”
Adele “Adesuwa” Oni (“Hanna and The Witcher”), Stuart Bowman (“Bodyguard”) and newcomer Sahera Khan also star.
Oleh, a photographer and director, has previously worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment including Elba, Cara Delevingne and Lady Gaga. His photography has appeared in Vogue and I-d Magazine as well as exhibitions worldwide. He has also directed a number of commercials.
