Malignant Hearts in Diablo 4 Season 1 are socketable items that provide powerful abilities and act as Legendary Powers for players. These unique and mechanically interesting Malignant Hearts can only be obtained by defeating corrupted Elite monsters and participating in a Binding Ritual. Malignant Hearts are categorized into four color types, each providing different types of bonuses for players' characters. These Hearts can be socketed into specific color-coded Infested Sockets in jewelry.

Season 1: Season of the Malignant in Diablo 4 introduced a new socketable item called Caged Hearts or Malignant Hearts that will work in a similar mechanic to Gems, yet they are also very different from the Gems that players are used to. Grasshopper Film has released an official trailer for a film titled Notes on an Appearance, a mysterious experimental thriller from filmmaker Ricky D'Ambrose (University People) about a missing person. This first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and also played at New Directors/New Films, and the Sarasota, Montclair, and Melbourne Film Festival. The highly intellectual film has been described as, "like a quirkier Bresson, without the Catholic ennui." Notes on an Appearance stars Bingham Bryan, Keith Poulson, Tallie Medel, and Madeleine James. This seems like something only for the most die-hard cinephiles out there, not for mainstream audiences.
