If there is anything that the co-creator of the universally popular Sherlock series should be good at, it's writing a British detective story. Following on from his work on Sherlock and Doctor Who, and following his acting appearances in both Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mark Gatiss' latest writing project, the cozy crime story Bookish, has already been renewed for a second season.
Recently, it was rumored that filming on said second season would begin this summer, following the airing of Season 1 in mid-July. That now seems all the more likely, following confirmation via Instagram of the recent read-through of the Bookish Season 2 scripts. What's more, the caption on the post seems to confirm a first taste of when the second season will arrive, saying, "Today, we had a read through of the brilliant scripts for Bookish Series 2! Roll on 2026." For those yet to check Bookish out,...

Exclusive: Mark Gatiss is suitably on-trend with Bookish. He created and stars in the upcoming series as Gabriel Book, an eccentric bookshop owner and expert sleuth who helps the police solve tricky cases. The show has contained stories – one crime plays out over two episodes – and there are lighthearted elements and something comforting about the cluttered antiquarian bookshop, situated in a picture-perfect historic London lane. There is pre-launch buzz and international buyers have already started snapping up the series.
This is cozy crime, but as the show unfolds, Gatiss’ writing reveals layers and wrinkles that give the series teeth.
“It’s become a bit of an instant cliche, ‘cozy crime’, but I don’t think it has to be,” Gatiss tells Deadline. “It can be welcoming, and this has period elements that people love, and they love a world where you can’t solve crimes with computers. But it’s...

The long-gestating TV adaptation of Georges Simenon’s Maigret has landed at PBS Masterpiece, with Belgravia: The Next Chapter’s Benjamin Wainwright and Stefanie Martini (Prime Suspect 1973) playing the eponymous leads.
From Colin Callender’s Wolf Hall producer Playground, the series follows the detective and his wife in Paris. Maigret is a rising star in the Police Judiciaire, relentless in his investigations, with an uncanny ability to get under the skin of the criminals he is chasing and a matchless knowledge of Paris and its inhabitants. Lead Wainwright played Lord Frederick Trenchard in MGM+ sequel series Belgravia: The Next Chapter, which followed on from Julian Fellowes’ original.
Patrick Harbinson is writing Maigret and the cast includes Blake Harrison, Reda Elazouar, Kerrie Hayes, Shaniqua Okwok and Rob Kazinsky, with Nathalie Armin set to play Prosecutor Mathilde Kernavel.
The Maigret books are the second best-selling detective series of all time behind Sherlock. Playground licensed them from Georges Simenon Limited and unveiled the development three years ago, at which point Red Arrow Studios International – which is no longer attached – was co-producing. Banijay Rights has since boarded and will sell globally.
The previous Maigret TV adaptation aired on ITV for two seasons from 2016, starring Rowan Atkinson.
Playground Joint MD David Stern said: “George Simenon’s creation of Jules Maigret holds a firm place in the pantheon of great literary detectives and we are incredibly grateful to our partners and John Simenon for their trust and support as we endeavor to bring a contemporary Maigret to a new, worldwide audience.”
Harbinson will direct the first two episodes of the Maigret series with Faye Gilbert directing 3 and 4, and David Evans taking 5 and 6. Susanne Simpson serves as the executive producer on behalf of Masterpiece the lead commissioning broadcaster, with John Simenon executive producing on behalf of Georges Simenon Limited. International distribution will be handled by Banijay Rights, the global sales arm of Banijay Entertainment.
Playground has been busy of late. The indie has completed the second in the Wolf Hall franchise, also for Masterpiece and the BBC, and is working on an Inspector Lynley Mysteries adaptation for BritBox International.

They're awkward, they're all grown up, and they're heading to Vegas. Joe Thomas, who plays Simon in the acclaimed British sitcom The Inbetweeners, has revealed a potential third movie could be in the works, taking the awkward British friends to Sin City. First airing on Channel 4 in 2008, The Inbetweeners followed four unlikely friends as they navigated the highs and low of Sixth Form education (the U.K. equivalent of 12th grade). Starring Simon Bird, Blake Harrison, and James Buckley, alongside Thomas, the series is a comedy staple that still enjoys repeat re-watches from fans.
The series, which ran for three seasons, was turned into a feature film in 2011 and followed the friends on a chaotic vacation to Crete. The first movie was a reasonable box office success, leading to the production of a sequel, which shipped the friends off to Australia.

Joe Thomas, the actor known for portraying Simon Cooper on the popular British comedy series “The Inbetweeners,” has indicated there could be another film featuring the show’s characters. In a recent podcast appearance, Thomas said he would be open to reuniting with his co-stars for a possible third movie installment.
While speaking on the “Always Be Comedy” podcast, Thomas expressed that he remains close with James Buckley, Simon Bird, and Blake Harrison, the actors who played his friends on the sitcom. According to Thomas, the cast enjoys working together and would consider collaborating again under the right circumstances. He proposed a “stag do,” or British bachelor party, as an engaging plotline that could bring the characters back together years after the original series.
Thomas believes a film format would better suit a potential reunion compared to reviving the television show. He noted challenges in scheduling new episodes years later.

He told the Always Be Comedy podcast that the idea had been discussed in “various forms and all of us feel like it would be nice.”
“We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it,” Thomas said.
“A movie, I think works with the right idea. It would be challenging to do another series, just because of the timeline. But with the film, there are all sorts of options.”

"Spread's been around longer than you've been alive." Tubi has revealed an official trailer for Spread, a comedy that will be sent direct-to-streaming this summer. Not to be confused with the Ashton Kutcher indie comedy also called Spread from 2009 - these two films are entirely different. In this new Spread movie, an aspiring journalist who begrudgingly takes a job at an iconic adult magazine finds herself in an epic fight to save the company from bankruptcy. It's the world's largest adult magazine, and it might just change her life. Of course it will. This stars Elizabeth Gillies as Ruby, Harvey Keitel as Frank, Keith Walker, Diora Baird, David Allan Pearson, Teri Polo, Bryan Craig, Blake Harrison, and Diedrich Bader. This looks super cheesy and extra schmaltzy, definitely has the feel of a direct-to-tv release. Have a peek below. // Continue Reading ›...

Blake Harrison, a former member of grindcore band Pig Destroyer, has died at the age of 48.
Harrison became an official member of the group’s lineup in 2006, adding samples and layers of harsh noise to the band’s grindcore sound. He exited Pig Destroyer in 2022.
Harrison’s partner Lindsey Turnbullet revealed on Facebook that he had been battling and beating cancer in recent years, though he ultimately passed away from unexpected heart failure following pneumonia. Harrison’s former band and his colleagues from the Baltimore metal scene have since taken to social media to mourn his passing.
Shared Pig Destroyer on Facebook:
“Blake Hollingsworth Harrison has been our spirit animal for over 20 years.
In the early oughts, Blake’s band Daybreak and Pig Destroyer were both fledgling bands of malcontents fighting to establish our footprint in the scene. Eventually, Blake joined Pd in early 2004 helping with merch on the Grind Over UK tour.

PBS‘s World on Fire, the engrossing British drama about ordinary people trying to survive World War II, is back after a four-year absence. It’s worth the wait. Here’s what to expect in the six episodes beginning in October 1940, early in the German bombing campaign on the U.K. known as the Blitz. 1. Home front tempers flare. Proper English matriarch Robina Chase has taken in the wife of her purpose-seeking son Harry (Jonah Hauer-King), a British Army lieutenant. But Kasia (Zofia Wichlacz)—a Polish refugee and resistance fighter- itching to return to action—clashes with both her mother-in-law and the locals. Meanwhile, a mysterious new tenant, charming Sir James Danemere, is billeted at the Chase home. (Stay out of his luggage!) 2. Desert warfare roils North Africa. Harry and Sgt. Stan Rad-dings (Blake Harrison) brave German tanks and sandstorms with their new ally, the British Indian Army’s fearless...

Not sleeping in the is a big problem for many people but if they had a best friend who is also up with them, could it be really fun. The new Apple TV+ series Still Up answers that question through a sweet story about two friends Lisa and Danny suffering from insomnia, who are connected mostly through video calls.
Created by Steve Burge and Natalie Walter, Still Up has a small cast and it does a good job of focusing on the important storylines through them while also establishing their eccentricities and wants in the story seamlessly. We never feel that any of the characters in the series are out of place or forced in the story.

There’s a point midway through When Harry Met Sally when the two leads, both unable to sleep, find themselves on the phone. The actual conversation isn’t about much of anything — past relationships, what’s on TV, the ending of Casablanca. But what comes through loud and clear is the connection between them, so easy and comfortable that any fool can see they’re meant to be together.
Apple TV+’s Still Up is a whole series of When Harry Met Sally phone calls, placed between insomniac besties Lisa (Antonia Thomas) and Danny (Craig Roberts). Like their big-screen forebears, they fancy themselves “just mates”; like them, it’s evident to nearly everyone around them, us included, that they’re destined for romance. All that’s missing, alas, is When Harry Met Sally‘s most crucial ingredient: the magical chemistry to make us root for them to get there against all odds.

Still Up looks set to be one of the best comedies of the year.
Apple TV+ shared the official trailer for the new comedy series starring Antonia Thomas and Craig Roberts.
Still Up is an almost romantic comedy set in the after-hours world of insomniacs Danny (Roberts) and Lisa (Thomas), who have no secrets except their feelings for each other.
The trailer zeroes Danny and Lisa's bond. They struggle to sleep and bond as they help each other through the night.
Insomnia isn't easy to handle, so having someone on the other end of a phone with you throughout that difficult time must be comforting.
While Danny and Lisa believe their bond to be platonic, it seems romantic feelings are simmering beneath the surface between them.
The logline does reveal they have no secrets except their feelings for each other, so there's a good chance the eight-part comedy will chart that throughout.
